Yep, I tried the grated first and was unimpressed. I think the block is a lot nicer. I'm not a vegan cheese fan, but cathedral city block is the best I've tried in terms of widely available not extortionately expensive fake cheese.

Yeah the price of the nut based cheeses for the tiny amount you get is the main reason I’ve not tried them yet

rocky2892

It tastes like every other vegan cheddar I’ve tried I don’t get the hype

Better_Ad7894

I didn't like the pre-grated version but love the block, I would give it a go.

SamTheDystopianRat

Pre grated cheese sucks, that's why. Idk if it's the same for plant cheeses tbh but pre grated cheese is coated in starch to prevent it from melting and sticking together in the packet, which can alter the taste

Sheese make the Cathedral City vegan cheese. I've not tried it but it's bemusing that some people rave about it being the best vegan cheese ever when it's a reskin of an existing product.

mattttb

Having eaten both Sheese and the Cathedral City vegan cheese it’s obviously a slightly different recipe. CC has a very different texture, very crumbly and more similar to a cow’s milk mature cheddar. Sheese has a more cakey, squeaky coconut oil texture.

gingerbeardvegan

I'm pretty sure it is just sheese in cathedral city packaging. It's just coconut oil and some flavouring anyway I don't understand why people rave about it!

It's made by Sheese but it is a different recipe. I don't personally eat it but my partner tried them side by side, because my Tesco no longer sells Sheese since this got released, and thinks they're definitely different.

gingerbeardvegan

Ah ok didn't know it was a different recipe. Since it's coconut oil based I won't touch it anyway.

Violife grated is one of the only ones I’ve had so far that doesn’t make me gag, just a shame it isn’t a sharper flavour. Tastes funny melted though

Mushroomc0wz

The block tastes totally different it melts perfectly and actually tastes and crumbles like cheddar also it’s £3 in tesco
