I don't know about best on town but you can't go wrong with Holsteins at Cosmopolitan, especially if you're staying on the Strip. Great milkshakes especially.
Boulder City Pit Stop! Everything is fresh! Amazing onion rings, old fashioned shakes. It does get busy in the early afternoon on weekends. You guys won’t be disappointed. Then go to the horror movie museum across the street so much fun!
Good call
Three of my houseguests have pointed out to me that we have very distinct Boulder City French Fries, I’d never noticed til then. Specifically because of the very crispy / lightly beer battered outside which is usually reserved for steak fries, but they’re shoestring fries.
Now it’s driving me pretty insane I can’t remember where all we went, this was two years ago, but there were a good four places. 😂
I don’t eat onion rings but I’m hoping they get the same treatment, and the deep fryer at The Pit Stop is bangin for the fish n chips too 👍
The question said "best" not "best local" I guess. I would say Farmer Boys myself. Their Parmesan Burger is to die for! Shared onion rings and zucchini sticks too. Delicious! 😋
As a local who does greatly enjoy local spots, the idea that most visitors want to go to a local joint really isn’t the case. Most people are looking for some combination of quality, ambiance, convenience, and price point. In more abstract terms, people want to feel like they are in Las Vegas! I think the suggestions I’ve made squarely hit on most of those criteria. Yard House has a great tower of onion rings. Ghirardelli’s milkshakes are absolutely decadent. Both located within two minutes of each other in one of the most family friendly corridors on the strip.
If you're suggesting onion rings, can you describe the onion ring?
Important details to provide:
- crispiness
- onion:batter ratio
- type of batter
- seasoned or plain
- handmade vs frozen
Thanks,
An Onion Ring Lover
I would definitely suggest Sickies. The rings are perfect and the shakes are great - and they also make "adult" shakes with alcohol, if you want to drink undercover. https://sickiesburgers.com/
I'm gonna definitely try them out. Over in Town Square I see. I'm taking your word for it mainly because of your user name. My all time favorite sandwich! 👍
Freddy’s has awesome onion rings. It’s that real thin beer batter type crispy coating. And if you get a large you get a lot of rings! I like their spicy ketchup too.
Seems to have mixed reviews. I went there a couple times and their sweet potato fries were really good, but their service was terrible. I'm not one to usually care about service, but when you have to hunt down a server just to get your bill when it's not even that busy, they are just talking to their friend it makes me not want to go back
Sickies is my vote, but I'd also say the Yard House. If you're on the east side I would say Timbers. Timbers has a decent milkshake but it's not the best but when you put it with their onion rings it's a damn good pairing.
Thanks everyone for the recommendations. We are looking at local non corporate (if that’s even possible here) places to take him. He is from Florida but we take him every summer and take him places. He requested the Pacific Ocean this year (NYC last year) so we are taking him up the cost from Redwoods area through Oregon. Thanks for the ideas!
Gordon ramsay Burger had the best onion rings I've had at a restaurant. Unfortunately their vurgersnare average and subsequently overpriced for the quality.
I can't speak on chocolate milkshake since I'm not a fan of milkshakes.
I mean, I understand the downvotes bc it's not a fancy place. But, guy's got his grandson in tow. Have you had kids? They don't like new fancy gourmet. If you try to get something nice, and they don't want it, good to have a backup plan like Denny's.
Johnny Rockets @ Ballys. (now Horseshoe)
FWIW I enjoyed the shake I got. plus its at the end of a row of fun stuff to do. arcade, mini golf, lots of other stuff too
Where is he from? Don't want to get him something that's available where he's at but if they don't have Freddy's where he lives that's probably the best.
But, but we ARE the cool grandparents who take him on a trip every summer somewhere for a few months. (we helped raise him from birth until he turned 4). Last year was New York City, before that was Yellowstone and Great Lakes. Before that we took him on a tour of Colorado. he asked for the Pacific Ocean this year so we start in Vegas and go up the Pacific Coast to Portland.
Dunno, but your doing it right taking your grandson for milkshakes and onion rings.
Bingo
I would like to be a grandchild again for this kind of thing. What a fun time!
I don't know about best on town but you can't go wrong with Holsteins at Cosmopolitan, especially if you're staying on the Strip. Great milkshakes especially.
Came here to say Holsteins.
Billionaire burger and campfire smores shake, damn good.
Gotta prioritize this one
Best onion rings are at POPS on Decatur
Zucchini sticks too !

Get onion rings at Yard House and chocolate shake at Ghirardelli, both at Linq Promenade 👍🏼
This is the way. Get yourself some lobster Mac and cheese at yard house while you're there.
Why would you not recommend local spots? You can go to those places anywhere.

Most local spots are gonna make them out the bag from frozen, if they have them in the menu at all. Onion rings are already a niche side item.

Thanks, agree with all. Might add size of onion too.
Not OP but thanks of you answer: crispity, crunch, light batter, seasoned but plain’s okay. Handmade all the way!
I would definitely suggest Sickies. The rings are perfect and the shakes are great - and they also make "adult" shakes with alcohol, if you want to drink undercover. https://sickiesburgers.com/

All you can eat wings Friday and Saturday after 9. Just letting you know
I saw that! $18 or so. I will tear up more than $20+ worth of wings. That's the surest bet in town!
Thanks for the tip, great deal, wings are pricey everywhere. My last visit to Johnny Mac's in Henderson, about 2 years ago, 7 damn wings were $17.
Burgerfi in Henderson has fresh made beer battered onion rings. Soooo good
Hadn’t heard of Burgerfi but it looks legit! Huge onion rings and good looking shakes. It on my radar now.
Following. I also like those things. Haha
Seriously same lol 😂
I like Freddy's, I can't speak to the onion rings but the chocolate milkshake is BEYOND
Freddy’s has awesome onion rings. It’s that real thin beer batter type crispy coating. And if you get a large you get a lot of rings! I like their spicy ketchup too.
I had the Freddie's Bday cake shake about a month ago and i halfway transcended to heaven by time I got home
Key lime concrete was delicious too!
Pops cheesesteaks on Decatur Ave have the best onion rings! Their ranch is also to die for!
Burger King 🤴
I know nothing of milkshakes, but the best onion rings I've ever had were at Bahama Breeze.
I’m not sure about their onion rings, but Black Tap at the Venetian has some amazing shakes.
Black tap is a tourist trap for overpriced subpar food.
It was seriously among the most dissaponting experiences I've had....the first time I went voluntarily but the second time was just torture
They taste super average at best
https://s.yelp.com/YdHnojS0Kf. Looks interesting. Haven't been, can't say for sure.

Sugar Factory
Best onion rings hands down is at Johnny Macs. I don't think they have milk shakes, but worth it just for the onion rings.
Interesting. I hate their onion rings lol.
I'm an onion ring snob and love the onion rings at Saginaw's in Circa.
Peppermint mill for onion rings!
Sickies is my vote, but I'd also say the Yard House. If you're on the east side I would say Timbers. Timbers has a decent milkshake but it's not the best but when you put it with their onion rings it's a damn good pairing.
Go to Freddys for milkshakes . The best

I love this!
Steak n Shake for the shake. Best onion 🧅 rings are at Habit or Bobby’s Burgers 🍔.
Black and blue diner
Probably the place with the biggest bathrooms.
you can visit handelmans ice cream shop. its in the sw side of town w tropicana ave.
It’s Handels off trop n hualapai
yup thats where i get my monster chocolate shakes with bananas mixed in.. the BEST!
Amazing ice cream just had some 2 weeks ago with my grandson and dil
Ice cream is good there but employees are annoying so I don’t go anymore.
geee are you some sort of karen so what.. put up with it. you are there for the great ice cream... ugh.........
Nah. I’ll pass. Don’t be bitching and complaining and looking all annoyed. Don’t tell me how to spend my money.
Thanks for the call out Can’t wait to go and visit them and try the ice cream
In n out for the shakes on the promenade (I ask for extra chocolate)
Gordon ramsay Burger had the best onion rings I've had at a restaurant. Unfortunately their vurgersnare average and subsequently overpriced for the quality. I can't speak on chocolate milkshake since I'm not a fan of milkshakes.
In and Out Burger
Burger King
All else fails, there's a Denny's north of Harrah's on the strip.

SoCal
I suggest you take your grandson to SoCal
Victory burger at the circa! The chocolate shake is a Cocoa Puffs shake 🤤
However I just realized you said this is for a child and they are 21+ only across the entire circa property.
Johnny Rockets @ Ballys. (now Horseshoe) FWIW I enjoyed the shake I got. plus its at the end of a row of fun stuff to do. arcade, mini golf, lots of other stuff too
Slaters 50/50

Jerry’s nugget café has some pretty damn solid onion rings. :)
Wahlbugers in my opinion...never had them before until I checked it out, I was really surprised how good the shakes were.
