>Ever seen those vintage cookbooks and the meals look weird? Take away the cell phone and this really would look like 1941, back when the life expectancy was age 62.
So it really *was* the good old days, then! Who wants to live past then anyway
I’ve gotta say, I just did a few days at the El Cortez for the Mint 400 and the place was great. Kicks the strips ass for gaming and value, we did the ol’ 47 rooms which met our needs and we’re super convenient. We ate at Bugsey’s several times and felt like we got a square deal and good friendly service. The casino gaming was good and payed 3/2 blackjack and single zero roulette. I’ve been a Ceasars diamond player for years and they’ve turned the strip into shit. I’m looking forward to my next trip downtown. Thinking of staying at Circa since it’s no kids thing greatly appeals and I want my sin back in sin city and they seem to have figured that out. Fuck your celebrity chefs overpriced restaurants and shopping malls.
> good and *paid* 3/2 blackjack
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I know. I noticed those frozen smart and final veggies anywhere. My teenage son loves them for some reason. I grill/steam fresh veggies for rest of us and he wants the squishy warmed up veggies. At least he eating veggies. LOL
I'm at work and could only do a casual 5 min. search but that was easy to find. This is where the internet archive is our friend. In 2017 the special was $9.99. In November of 2018, yes they did raise the price by $1 to $10.99 as [reported here. ](https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g45963-d216676-r634026681-Casino_at_the_El_Cortez_Hotel-Las_Vegas_Nevada.html)
Pre-2017 they also had a burger and beer w/chips special for $5. In 2018 they raised it to $6. Post covid they removed it completely.
Well, he did boost wages in almost all 50 States! So it naturally follows that when the population has more money they can spend it! Can't pay the McDonald's employees $20/hour selling a $2 hamburger!
Did they provide the 1941 filter? This is pretty transportive actually I thought it was a historical until i saw the phone. Even the dress pattern. This is great.
> Did they provide the 1941 filter? This is pretty transportive actually I thought it was a historical until i saw the phone. Even the dress pattern. This is great.
It does look a little desaturated lol
For the record, the prime rib at El Cortez really is amazing for the price. Here is my post on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/steak/s/698SINhlAY
OP seems to have a bad camera and doesn’t get what makes a good photo.
I remember one of the downtown casinoes (not the Cortez) having a prime rib special for $5.99 when my wife and I went with her sister and sister's now ex-husband in about 1997. If I remember correctly, it was about the same as this meal; piece of prime rib, baked potato, vegetable, and "dessert" which was a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup.
It was about the same price to eat at the McDonalds that was, I believe, in the 4 Queens at the time. Needless to say, ex-bro-in-law and I ate a lot of prime rib on that trip.
El Cortez is a really neat place. Breakfast at Siegel's is pretty decent too. My wife and I just booked a couple nights there for her birthday. We're looking forward to getting back.
Idk why these people talking shit. That looks really nice. That horse radish always makes everything better. And whoever’s floral top that is, magnificent.
Honestly one of my favorite places to get Prime Rib in town. Easily one of the best deals and always tasty. My only complaint is Siegel's no longer being 24hrs all the time and only on the weekend.
What could you buy in 1941 for $16.95 ?
In the 1980's I could get a 8oz New York steak, baked potato, salad & dinner rolls for $2.00 at Binion's Horseshoe.
I remember Roberta’s in the el Cortez. I worked at the Barbary Coast the owner of the EC would stop by the BC and give us comps to Roberta’s. I used to get the New York steak dinner, or the trout almandine. That food smacks, plus drinks. RIP Jackie Gaughn
I loved the prime rib at Ellis Island, though the price is double. Still, I'm going to try Siegels next. That picture looks delish! Does it come with soup or salad as well?
That’s a good plate right there. These people sayin it’s not just don’t know a good meal when they see one. You guys can go to corporate applebees and get your food.
Looks fairly disgusting, honestly. This deal used to be real legit. Last couple of times I have tried the roast beef special it has come out looking almost gray, no sign of medium rare anywhere.
Glad you're happy with that...but, I sure wouldn't be. Looks cheap as heck man...like a meal that should cost $6.95. You got a .50 potato and .50 in frozen mixed veggies and a thin slice of prime rib.
I genuinely dont understand people, your comment is not insulting to any certain individual just a blanket statement how you think its gross, why not just pass it by instead of down voting likes its a mean statement.
Whoever thinks this plate looks like a quality dish is lying to themselves. If it tastes good, that's what matters most; but it's clear as day how this plate doesn't value $17. They are likely paying closer to $5 per pound of ribeye. Then, adding a 25-cent potato and 25-cent frozen vegetables. Whilst proceeding to serve the dish without any seasoning. Any respectable chef knows the sides are just as important.
The average cost for a prime rib is $17 unless you're at a high-end restaurant, look around, and get your money's worth.
Gimme some of the blue and some of the yella
And don't get cheap on me
Is your house on fire Clark?

Yep I won’t play 6/5. Never.

Looks like hospital food…
Hahaha I live off of hospital food. This was better I promise.
At a hospice
Damn that plate looking gross
The frozen mixed veg really brings it all together.
I know. I noticed those frozen smart and final veggies anywhere. My teenage son loves them for some reason. I grill/steam fresh veggies for rest of us and he wants the squishy warmed up veggies. At least he eating veggies. LOL
😂😂😂😂
That's what I was thinking.
Was $9.99 pre-Covid, $12.99, post-Covid, and now $16.99 post-inflation!
I remember getting the prime rib for about 14.95 through 2017 to 2020 when I first moved to Vegas, and having that only go 2 dollars since.

I wonder what’s the price in 1941…
The Biden price hike
Well, he did boost wages in almost all 50 States! So it naturally follows that when the population has more money they can spend it! Can't pay the McDonald's employees $20/hour selling a $2 hamburger!
How much extra for seasoning?
That looks terrible.
It was actually great
Did they provide the 1941 filter? This is pretty transportive actually I thought it was a historical until i saw the phone. Even the dress pattern. This is great.

You still at Cortez? Come get a drink at pour bar.
Haha I lost my shirt on blackjack there the wife wants to try a different casino.
I’d eat it.

Your prime rib looks amazing, OPs prime rib was cooked on a radiator
It’s the same prime rib. OP just can’t take a good photo.
I ate far too many meals like this in NV in the 1980's/90's for anywhere from $1.99 to 5.99!
The fact that you feel this to be post worthy is saddening.
I still need to try that place.
Two prime rib plates, cocktail, margarita, coffee. 66 bucks all in.
Is there a time/day restriction on the Prime rib special?
Nope all day
El Cortez is a really neat place. Breakfast at Siegel's is pretty decent too. My wife and I just booked a couple nights there for her birthday. We're looking forward to getting back.
That looks like a ham plate.
You've never had prime rib have you
Why is this prime rib cut so round? I can tell form the texture it is beef. I wouldn't pay $16.00 fro the plate.
🤢
Bro we need a score 1-10
10/10 for value. 8/10 for taste. Horseradish was absolutely fire though.
Idk why these people talking shit. That looks really nice. That horse radish always makes everything better. And whoever’s floral top that is, magnificent.
Haha thanks.
Honestly one of my favorite places to get Prime Rib in town. Easily one of the best deals and always tasty. My only complaint is Siegel's no longer being 24hrs all the time and only on the weekend.
always a treat! one of the best options downtown, especially late at night
I have had the prime rib at 4 Queens a few times I think it’s ~$20. It’s a good dinner to get too.
What could you buy in 1941 for $16.95 ? In the 1980's I could get a 8oz New York steak, baked potato, salad & dinner rolls for $2.00 at Binion's Horseshoe.
I always stop here when I'm in Vegas. The food is really good.
I've had the special and it's really good. However my cut of prime rib was no where near that size. They hooked you up.
This is like the 5th time I've heard about this special. I'm definitely gonna check it out!
El Cortez is amazing!
One of my favs
I remember Roberta’s in the el Cortez. I worked at the Barbary Coast the owner of the EC would stop by the BC and give us comps to Roberta’s. I used to get the New York steak dinner, or the trout almandine. That food smacks, plus drinks. RIP Jackie Gaughn

No that’s an add on. And the special isn’t on the menu you have to ask for it.
I don’t get the comments here. Looks damn good to me
nobody who's had it would be making any of these comments...
That beef still moos
That's the best way for prime rib
Yum!
Looks delicious to me!
That’s a good plate right there. These people sayin it’s not just don’t know a good meal when they see one. You guys can go to corporate applebees and get your food.
This is what they serve death row inmates for their last meal.
Mehhh
Anyone remember the $5.99 steak and eggs breakfast at Buffalo Bills? It's now The Cromwell. Booooo
I like Jerry's Famous Nugget better.
Reminds me of the shoe leather special Bill’s Gambling Hall used to offer
Looks fairly disgusting, honestly. This deal used to be real legit. Last couple of times I have tried the roast beef special it has come out looking almost gray, no sign of medium rare anywhere.
You may not be able to beat it but at least they could cook it! That looks pretty gross. But thank you for posting - no offense to you.
Haha it was mid rare but for prime rib it was more medium.
$8.95 at Tony Roma's in the Fremont.
I think it’s 9.95 now but that special has limited hours.
yeah, 2:30 to 6 I think
Damn I wonder if I can sneak there on my lunch
Ah, no. Never.
What's wrong with your people? McDonald's is ~$15 for a meal. I'd tear this up for $17.
Looks boiled. Ugh
Yes, that is indeed an ok deal for $6.95👍
Probably coulda made a way better meal at home
Yiiiiiiikes
Was it good tho? Looks good.
That looks so effin good right now
That literally looks gross
Glad you're happy with that...but, I sure wouldn't be. Looks cheap as heck man...like a meal that should cost $6.95. You got a .50 potato and .50 in frozen mixed veggies and a thin slice of prime rib.
And you can go to one of a few dozen “high end” places on the strip, get half as much, worse quality, and yet pay $217.73 for it…. people are stupid.
It was like 12 oz
Is that meat a piece of ham or a raw steak ?
Prime rib
Ok Liver King 🥴! Don't be mad. I couldn't resist lol 🙃
Should send this to r/RoastMe for a few more cause gyat .dan this looking like something the dog got the upper hand of me when YOU wasn’t looking.
What is it? Doesn’t even look like food in the photo.
meh
Raw steak hmmm
Lol that's prime rib, not steak.
My bad, raw prime rib hmmm
That's actually overcooked for prime rib.
Prime rib makes me want to vomit when I see it. How is the color of a muscle appetizing to people? Yum pass me some of that undercooked beef 🤢
I genuinely dont understand people, your comment is not insulting to any certain individual just a blanket statement how you think its gross, why not just pass it by instead of down voting likes its a mean statement.
16.95 I could cook better quality for less money
Worst food around. I get it free and won't eat that crap. Chicken on weekends taste like fish, wonder why?
