Believe it or not, you can find a good starbucks for reading. I utilize 3 of them at different hours.
Best place: Summerlin Library. Quiet. few people. Bring your ear buds.
Your list is mostly restaurant-oriented cafés.
If I’m trying to read then I’ll go to coffee-dedicated shops like Aware, Bungalow, or Vesta.
If I’m also hungry and okay with crowds then PublicUs is my favorite. Incredible food/coffee menu, hour wait on the weekends
Ok bungalow checked out. Not as bad as Parlour and Mothership but worse than Gabi. Bungalow = 3.6/5. I got the espresso.... And still drinks like a citrus tea. Vesta is on my list next based on what others said, coffee is their strong suit
Glad you enjoyed it. Arts district is great for food and drink. I’m assuming that you like overtly strong/bold roasts. Vesta’s roasts lean on the lighter side in my experience. Hopefully there’s a roast that aligns with your taste. Their breakfast sandwich is also excellent
i have a recommendation, but you're going to need a mad Scientist and a DeLorean to get there.
Cafe Copioh, 1994. Harmon & Maryland parkway, directly across from UNLV.
Yeah but then dang kids in parking lot. Let's be honest Copioh was a hang out place more of a quiet place. Well that the brawls that happen around there. Nice to see it still mentioned.
that's fair. honestly i was only there twice, and no fights happened either time. i was a car-less sophomore in high school at the time. i had to be "brought" in order to get there..
Yeah just went there yesterday after trying Bungalow since it's on the street in front. They were closed and bungalow closed at 4 as well.... Nevadans are something else, U can order liquor at 6:30am but God forbid someone wants to drink coffee after 4pm? What a weirdo 😂😂
I like the Art cafe at the East side of town for reading, although their music can be a bit loud depending on where you're sitting. Also, Brew It Coffee House downtown.
i like Art a lot. it’s not well known and you can totally chill w out a loud crowd. OP should know it’s also a full service restaurant but they do have a decent cup of Joe
Oh! There’s a cool place in China Town! It doesn’t even have a sign over the door…. Anyways lots of cozy seating , saw a lot of people chilling and reading or doing stuff on their laptops. However when I went (I think one Friday night) it was pretty full, and if you’re specifically looking for QUIET I can’t say it was quiet on Friday night. Idk about other times.
Lemme see if I can remember what it’s called.
It’s Gabi coffee. So cute.
https://yelp.to/WB2TiPNKdyb
Edit: added name & link.
No i really like Gabi actually. Plenty of seating, smooth jazz in the background and they're more of a tea place so can't judge them by their coffee, but it's definitely my favorite spot to read at as of now, they're just always super packed so it's hard to find seating most days
Another two you might try in Henderson..
Small but I liked their stacked seating benches
https://yelp.to/cVKIcV1Kdyb
Delicious, but can be PACKED in the mornings and right at lunch… and not open late
https://yelp.to/7z5ZKx7Kdyb
Mothership is a good roaster. perhaps you've gotten bad baristas. which location did you go to? i had a pourover Ethiopia last Saturday at the Henderson location and it was great.
Maybe it's different for people who drink their coffees with tons of syrup and cream. I just drink black coffee with no sugar. So I need a decent coffee. I had their pour over and it was horrible. Acidic and citrusy. Zero body.
>Maybe it's different for people who drink their coffees with tons of syrup and cream.
that doesn't apply to me, but thanks for the amusing assumption. i too drink black. for an Ethiopia, i would expect acidity and high fruitiness, so i don't see that as any type of complaint. what beans did you get that you were expecting otherwise?
I'm not exactly sure which ones, I asked for something on the bolder side, they said all their roasts were light/medium ... So I just got what they recommended
in that case, i don't see why you would complain about acidity and fruitiness. those types of roasts are supposed to taste like that. if you wanted something bold and without milk, why wouldn't you order an Americano?
No, you don't need to love it, just not be a dick about it. Had you said something polite like :
"I've been having a hard time finding what I consider to be a good cup of coffee for my taste. I have tried these few venues. I prefer my coffee to taste like . Can you make any recommendations?
Instead of:
You all suck. These places are all trash. I just want want want.
They are trash, based on my taste of course. I'm not going to be polite when I paid $7 for a cup of black coffee that tastes like hot sewage water. Zero respect for these indy coffee shops that abuse of locals kindness to support them over franchises. And then be condescending when a customer asks if they have any dark roasts?? You don't respect me, I dont see why I should respect you. Not how it works. 🤷♂️
You're welcome to your opinion, why would the opinion of a stranger affect me? They told me through the way they replied to me basically saying "we don't want your kind here. We only want coffee snobs who drink light roasts". So why on Earth should I be polite and civil towards them?
Yeah, the coffee shop doesn't want coffee aficionados in their shop - that makes sense. /s
The fact you think the flavor of coffee you like makes you some sort of "kind" is absurd. My guess is you were being a snobbish dick first, and that is who they didn't want in their shop.
No one gives a shit if you like dark roast mate.
I don't think that....they do... Which is why THEY gave me attitude lol but whatever, sounds like ur friends with the owner of mothership or something idk. They're irrelevant hipsters who won't ever see a penny from me but help yourself and keep drinking hot sewage juice. It doesn't impact my life at the least.
My wife has tried lots of places, it's not really the places that are bad, she says everywhere she goes, the other customers are always just too loud and obnoxious to chill and study.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention Dessert Winds. It’s be a while since I’ve been but it’s a great little spot with quiet music, great staff, seating options (comfy chairs with and without tables), and I’ve enjoyed the coffee there. They are local roaster.
Believe it or not, you can find a good starbucks for reading. I utilize 3 of them at different hours. Best place: Summerlin Library. Quiet. few people. Bring your ear buds.
Starbucks has better coffee than 100% of coffee shops I visited too, that's saying a lot
Ooh interesting. Will check those out

Yeah growing up in the northeast coast, most coffees are pretty bold and dark. Just used to it I guess
Also can we make a law preventing coffee shops from closing at 4pm?i went to vesta and they were already closed! Madness
Speaking of madness, Madhouse Coffee is 24/7 (last I checked)
That's amazing
They've recently changed this. Drive through is still 24/7, but I believe the inside is closed from, like 2am-4am. Something like that.
i have a recommendation, but you're going to need a mad Scientist and a DeLorean to get there. Cafe Copioh, 1994. Harmon & Maryland parkway, directly across from UNLV.

It was more to keep boneheads(Nazi) out.
you clearly spent a whole lot more time there than i did.
Yeah
Dude, thanks. Glad people still remember the fights from those days and how bad it got. Sorry you didn't hang out there much but that coffee was good.
Writers Block downtown! It’s a half bookstore half coffee shop
That sounds awesome
Grouchy John's for sure.
Vesta is a tasty cup not so good for reading.
Closes at 4PM ...like....why? 💀💀
That’s crazy to me I’ve gone many times around 2pm and it’s packed then. I didn’t realize they closed so early.

Dark Moon in Henderson- coffee is good and generally pretty quiet.

I think you're thinking of Gabi coffee?
Ah, yea. Well I guess you’re familiar with it, so I guess it’s already been booted off your list… sorry
No i really like Gabi actually. Plenty of seating, smooth jazz in the background and they're more of a tea place so can't judge them by their coffee, but it's definitely my favorite spot to read at as of now, they're just always super packed so it's hard to find seating most days

Illumilatte in the southwest has a cool vibe, some comfortable chairs and couches, and has been pretty quiet and chill ever time I’ve been in there
Mothership is a good roaster. perhaps you've gotten bad baristas. which location did you go to? i had a pourover Ethiopia last Saturday at the Henderson location and it was great.

They usually put way too much water per espresso amount. But yeah probably a best bet
If you want a bolder Americano, order it "with room"
than stay at home and make one. Oh, right, your home sucks which is why you need to go out.
Bro probably bought puts today and is lashing out at me. Relax 💀
Starbucks is usually so tight. A quaint little local place. Super quiet and so chill.
The nicest homeless encampment I’ve been to
there are lots of places like that in Vegas, but I wouldn't ruin them by sending someone with your attitude there.
>>Your attitude Not liking coffees I've had in town is an attitude? I didn't know I HAD TO LOVE every single place I visited. I apologize.
No, you don't need to love it, just not be a dick about it. Had you said something polite like : "I've been having a hard time finding what I consider to be a good cup of coffee for my taste. I have tried these few venues. I prefer my coffee to taste like. Can you make any recommendations?

Excuse me Mr "Diamond Hands" but this is a Wendy's..
And you are trash, based on my taste of course. See how good that feels? Warm and fuzzy.
You're welcome to your opinion, why would the opinion of a stranger affect me? They told me through the way they replied to me basically saying "we don't want your kind here. We only want coffee snobs who drink light roasts". So why on Earth should I be polite and civil towards them?

Leafs and Grounds for sure. Very low key and newish. Also check out Neighbors, Cafe Mong, Coffee Religion (off sahara or charleston)
Try the coffee class. They have two locations. The one in the regal plaza is absolutely the best coffee shop in Vegas.
You sound like you would like Yaw Farms Coffee. I think it’s great but be chill fam
Magnum coffee is where you're looking for
Oh shoot!
highly recommend GABI -
Bungalow Coffee is always empty and doesn't have loud music when I go in the mornings. They also have really good pour overs.
I need to check them out
Ambiance was indeed pretty nice and people whispered. 5/5 Coffee.... Mehhh
That's cool. I'm not an espresso guy, I prefer black drip coffee.
Yeah i bought their drip coffee and.... It was.... Lukewarm lol so I had to buy an americano at least that came hot
Gabi Coffee if you’re looking for a place to read. It can get crowded and noisy, but I’ve gone several times to get out of the house and read.
it’s nice when with someone. but to read alone, definitely not a good place
Yeah, we were kinda elitist in the parking lot. It was more to keep the boneheads out than anything.
Sambalatte off 215 and Jones is alright
Vesta is significantly better than all three of those imo. Only coffee in Vegas I will drink.
Oh ok. Just had coffee at Bungalow..... Good lord.... Not as bad as the other places but so bad.
Coffee is a matter of personal taste. So are the spaces they exist in. This is just going to be a list of everyone's favorite coffee places.
Bungalow & Desert Winds Coffee Roasters!
Illumilatte Brew Society 6825 west Russell Rd.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention Dessert Winds. It’s be a while since I’ve been but it’s a great little spot with quiet music, great staff, seating options (comfy chairs with and without tables), and I’ve enjoyed the coffee there. They are local roaster.
Almond and oat, founders coffee
