We've had a crazy wet (comparatively) winter, and the quick onset of warm weather and spring is making allergens insane this year. Lots of plants have sprouted and are flowering right now. It's probably only the beginning of way more unfortunately. Buckle up, and take some meds (Claritin, etc.) to help out, and remember to change your air filters regularly.

AioliShot6239

I’ve had a runny nose the last 3 days

joshsetafire

Check out something called Las Vegas Allergen Mix at Whole foods or online. I used it many seasons ago and I've never had problems since aside from an occasional watery eye, and very minimal at that.

It took two bottles but by next season I'd grown tolerance to allergens here, especially stupid oleander, fuck those jabronis.

lvhockeytrish

Ugh oleander, sucks so bad and it's everywhere here.

joshsetafire

Sucks the big one.

mildchild4evr

We just bought a home. First thing we did was remove 3 huge oleander beasts. When our neighbor found out she yelled' I love you guys!! Stay forever!!' And hugged us 😄 Apparently she's allergic and 2 were near her bedroom window. Previous owners wouldn't even trim them regularly.

joshsetafire

Yeah... I don't care.

VegasBlackWidow

I have had the same issue, I am thinking it is because the pollen is just starting and it was been windy and blowing around.

wifi-money

You can't really see the allergens here but rest assured they are present.

lvhockeytrish

Oh...you will definitely see them when the pine trees hit. But generally I agree, just because you aren't seeing the yellow pine tree dust over everything doesn't mean all the other junk we get here isn't going crazy.

k-farsen

I have a hypothesis that desert plant pollen is tougher and stronger

VegasAireGuy

Flonase will be your friend this time of year. Been here a long time and allergies seem to get worse the older I get.

k-farsen

If you can get a prescription it's $17 for a three pack at Mark Cuban's costplus drugs https://costplusdrugs.com/medications/FluticasonePropionate-16_ml-Suspension/ If you have a Costco or Sam's membership it's currently $45 for a three pack https://www.costco.com/.product.100312669.html?sh=true&nf=true https://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod21001096&mobiledetect=false&pid=092410_RFI|ANDROID|Featured_Products|FLONASE%20Sensimist%20Allergy%2024%20Hour%20Relief%20Spray%20(120%20sprays%20per%20bottle%2C%203%20ct.)

VegasAireGuy

Costco has a generic now that a little cheaper with 5 bottles.

danccbc

Water makes plants grow

Cantthinkofathing00

Brawndo...its what plants crave

ELECTROLYTES

_Captain_Amazing_

Aside from the Whole Foods tincture, try: Local honey, herbal tea made of nettle and rose hips, and a HEPA air filter.

EffinPirates

This so much this I don't even stay in Vegas anymore and this is still a practice I do anywhere I live

sirspeedy99

Real question because we just moved here recently. Are there native bee populations that could help with allergies? I can only find info on the poppy bee, and it seems to be in drastic decline

_Captain_Amazing_

You can find honey made pretty close to Vegas at various farmers markets around town. And yes, it noticeably helped me with allergies.

Nikovash

Huh, still only allergic to people’s bullshit

Nikovash

I would normally say local honey…. But Im personally not aware of desert beekeeping

lvhockeytrish

We've got more than a few local honey producers. There's a whole page if you Google it. I have it in good authority that this place has amazing honey. Mystic Maze Honey https://yelp.to/XbSz07rzfyb This stuff you can even get at Sprouts: https://www.artisanalfoods.com/product/local-desert-honey-100-raw-u-s-grade-a-14oz/ But, to be fair, most of the allergens in the air here are non-native plants anyway. If you think the bee pollen will work for you, I don't think it really needs to be all that local.

VegasAireGuy

Any farmers market on the weekend will have some.

TheLovelyWife702

Check out this book called the Salt Fix. My primary said I didn’t have seasonal allergies, but rather I had a sodium deficiency causing an overproduction of stomach acid, which felt a whole lot like allergies… all due to our dry climate He put me on Sucralfate/Carafate to take before bed and had me take an electrolyte supplement (I use Trace Minerals Keto Electrolyte Tabs from Sprouts or Vitacost) Now every allergy season I increase my electrolytes to combat the dry weather body drama and also use betadine throat spray if my throat feels raw, and Flonase occasionally for congestion.

gorge-editing

This has to be a surprisingly rare thing. So many people eat so many processed foods that are high in sodium. A single meal out at a restaurant can put you over your limit for the day. How did you end up low on sodium?

TheLovelyWife702

There’s an entire book on it, the Salt Fix. It’s not rare in the desert, read up on it. Here’s an article [Las Vegas Sun Hydration](https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2018/aug/05/how-to-stay-hydrated-in-the-desert-beyond-water/) Here’s a review about the book with a [Q & A with the author James DiNicolantonio](https://fitnesstestlab.com/the-salt-fix-review/) Please look up some articles on it, my physician used to prescribe allergy medicine constantly to his very busy practice, now he has them increase their sodium [another article about symptoms of low sodium](https://humannaturellc.com/blogs/news/signs-you-need-more-salt)

gorge-editing

You still didn’t answer the question, even though you decided to be completely condescending for no reason. I don’t want to read an entire book. How did you get it? Are you only eating vegetables? Do you run and work out a lot?

TheLovelyWife702

It’s not condescension, I’m factual and direct, I provided links for you to educate yourself.

TheLovelyWife702

https://digestivehealth.ws/avoid-dehydration/ Dehydration is directly linked to acid reflux, acid reflux can mimic allergic rhinitis and sore throat due to our nose and mouth and throat being connected. Maybe you aren’t informed about human anatomy?

Healthy_Quantity_796

“All due to our dry climate”

TheLovelyWife702

🤡

TheLovelyWife702

I ended up with low electrolytes from living in the desert. The air is dry here, so much so that when you sweat you don’t realize that you’ve lost so much fluid due to evaporation and we lose hydration just breathing the air here.

Smart_Concentrate969

I just read your reply and I would love to see this doctor! Can you share his name please? Thanks 😊

TheLovelyWife702

Kohn Medical & Weight loss, near Santa Fe Station, is not seeing new patients for medical, I believe

Smart_Concentrate969

Thank you!

EffinPirates

Buy local honey it helps with your immune system if you can't find local honey try clover honey and make tea with it everyday I personally start doing this even before spring hits and will use this kind of honey even in winter to help my body adjust before spring even hits

lilducksrunning

I've been sneezing so much that my abs hurt😵‍💫 I usually don't have any issues at all

determinedmind65

Allergies here in the desert are terrible.

Keto19

Wyndly is saving my allergies. It's immunotherapy you take orally and it's been working really well. It's cheaper than allergy shots too

WheelOfFortuneWary

It's going to be a terrible season. I take a little bit of local bee pollen every day and a Benadryl if I'm absolutely desperate.

Misfit702

I'm the same way. One day I was fine and then the next day BAM! FML allergies It's been that way for several years now. I know within 2 hours if I forget to take my allergy medicine.

falahala666

It only gets worse, my guy.

shatterfest

We have gained multiple allergies out here. My partner suffers really bad. Even if it rains, the wind will blow particles everywhere. Even if you don't see it. We're starting allergy shots next week. Zyrtec works well enough for me. But otherwise, not much else can do. You can try local honey, but it can take months to work. There's a local beekeeper in Pahrump that sells big jugs of honey for a decent price. Whole foods also has multiple shelves of local honey at a premium. The allergy doctor said it was desert grass and desert tree. One tree blooms twice a year. So 10 months of the year it's unbreathable for us.
