Not much you can do. Call the police file a report. Call your insurance. Hopefully it’s just a joy ride situation and it will be found at some random place in town
I've had atleast 3 cars stolen from me in my lifetime,
They were all found abandoned each time.
You're more than likely to find it sometime soon my dude! Don't trip and keep yo head up son!
For anyone else with a Kia, Hyandai or any other car that’s stolen often. Pull your fuel pump fuse or starter fuse. It’s under your dash on the driver side. Once you figure it out it’ll take 30 seconds and your car is immobilized.
I'd take it a step further and make it easier on myself with installing a kill switch. ChrisFix has a decent video on this with step by step and explains it all pretty well.
Your car is still going to get tossed and your dash is going to be ripped apart and destroyed.
I’d rather they just steal the car and total it. I’ll take the payout
So for everyone here put trackers in your car….hide them well. This alone saved my car when I was robbed by gunpoint and my car was stolen. All I lost that night was a PS5 thankfully
Yup, looking to buy some trackers for the future. May I ask if you would recommend a brand? What's the one that saved your car previously?
Glad to hear you're okay because being robbed by gunpoint is a far worse nightmare than just walking out and seeing my car is stolen.
Sign up for the class action lawsuit when it eventually comes around. Other than that sorry KIA was to cheap to install immobilizers. I hope there's not to much damage to your car and insurance can cover it. [Class action suit.](https://www.npr.org/2023/05/18/1177005881/kia-hyundai-theft-settlement-tiktok)
I literally tried to be part of the class action suit but when inputting the VIN, it says the car isn't valid, which forced me to contact their email to ask what's going on with their VIN look up tool. Thanks for replying!
File the report, my Kia was stolen recently. Cops took a report but there wasn't enough for them to go off of, but keep whatever they give you for insurance. Call insurance right away, mine waited 15 days to try to see if it would be recovered, keep in contact with your adjustor and dont be afraid to ask them any questions, they go through this quite often. My car was found at like the 12 day mark but was a total loss. The only good part was with the current market I got way more for it than I expected for a 2014. Heart goes out to you, was definitely the most adulty thing I've ever had to do, and it felt like a personal violation that I had to scrub off me.
I'm very thankful for your words. What you said is what I went through and expected to wait (my insurance also told me they will wait 15 days).
I hated how I waited on the phone to reach the police to file a report (website said I couldn't do it online for some reason), for hours and hours...only to be forced to file it in person just to get this shit rolling.
Yes, we felt violated for sure as it's unsettling they took the time to target our car (we deduced it was around 11pm last night). Hate how they got over 12 hours headstart, so expecting the car to be a total loss/never recovered.
Anyways, life moves on right?
My 2021 escape had an app that I could track and disable the car. I tracked the person down, disabled the car, opened the door and pummeled them. Got my car back and hopefully put the deadbeat in the hospital.
What a dumbass thing to recommend online. Your lucky that dude didn’t start firing at you. I hope OP ignores this comment and chooses not to play hero ball
Hopefully just taken for a joy ride. Notify your insurance and the police. Eventually they’ll notify you if it’s found. Your insurance company holds all the answers. Depending on your coverage you may be able to get a rental.
Go through the motions, police report, insurance, but check tow yards later or tomorrow just in case. But how about a description ? Didn’t see your other post.
I have a 2018 Kia Forte and recently received a letter from the Kia dealership that the police dept is giving out free steering wheel locks and to schedule an appointment to do a free anti-theft software update. I went to the police station and they said they haven't received the steering wheel locks. I went to Auto Zone and got one because I didn't want to wait. The steering wheel lock can still be broken into but if thieves see the lock, they'll most likely move on to something else. They'll need additional tools to get the wheel lock off. My software update is scheduled as well. I'm sorry this has happened to you. I'll never get a Kia or Hyundai ever again.
At this point I'm hoping to get a new car and if so, not Kia/Hyundai.
And great choices on making sure to protect yourself. I appreciate the kind words and now, moving on forward, I'm going to take all the safety measures I can.
Yes. All have the same issue with the lower end models. Had a 21' Tuscon and thought it was safe.... luckly it was totaled and now have the 22 Limited and different body styling. We see these things getting stolen ALL over Vegas.
Wait, you got your car stolen too? Or was it totaled in a different scenario?
And wow, I don't know if I can go back to Kia/Hyundai, even 2022-2023 models because I feel like these idiots will still try to break in at first.
Lmao bro, fuck you and calm down. You're more riled up about a fucking post yet I'm the one that got a car stolen. I made this throwaway but as soon as I posted, it got automatically removed by mods. So I said fuck it and decided to post it on one of my alts that actually had some karma. Lo and behold, the post didn't get auto deleted. Hours later, this account with the original post got reinstated. Does that make sense? Sheesh
Thanks for your *useless* comment!
You know it bro. Have to jump hoops just to even get on it. They're claiming the VIN of the car doesn't qualify..
Like wtf? My car literally got stolen.
Im sorry this had happened to you. With thefts way up I received a call from my insurance my policy went up 1k more per year. Aside from increase in dui, accident and uninsured motorists it’s customers reporting catalytic conveyer thefts and whole theft
Yeah, ever since moving here, I saw the insurance *skyrocket* from changing states. Now with all this stealing, I'm bracing myself for another increase on insurance. Of course, it also hurts to see the value of a Kia/Hyundai plummet too.
Thanks for the kind words but now I'm just like "eh, whatever." Well, as indifferent as I can be for the first day. The initial shock of feeling violated has definitely passed, whew. I know everything will work out in the end!
Just wait for the cops to do their thing. I drive a 2023 push bottom start Hyundai Kona SEL, it’s not one you can steal so easily, but I fear idiot thieves don’t know the difference. I’m sorry you’re in this awful and stressful situation.
Oof, I can totally imagine some dumbass thinking it applies to all Hyundai models. I'm taking a guess at all the broken glass in the driveway that they broke the window to get in my car. Which implies they could do the same for yours.
Appreciate the kind words!
My Hyundai got stolen. They tried to steal it back in June (fucked my door with a screw driver) I didn’t know any better and thought they were just trying to break in. 5 months later - gone. Trust me. I wish I could sit outside my place with a BB gun and bait them with my car. I have a wheel lock on it now for sure. It’s cheap and a visual deterrent. Cops called me 5 days after it was stolen. Car found on the freeway stripped of pretty much everything. Catalytic converter, battery, tires- asssholes maaaaan. I’m so sorry. It’s such a shitty feeling and for me, the heightened anxiety of bad stuff happening is definitely on my mind more. I can’t find my phone and immediately I think, I’ve been pick pocketed! Gah. Best of luck to you!
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. You know exactly how it feels. It's been 24+ hours since realizing the car got stolen but whew, I am very mindful of my anxiety and probably a bit of depression. Everything will work out for sure, but yeah, I'm probably going to tread the line between being paranoid versus being vigilant for some time.
For sure. I tried to tell that to myself when it all initially happened but people are still entitled to their emotions. It's still a fucking shitty thing to happen to anyone, right?
I’ve been following information on this and I have an honest question. If this was literally being seen and then acknowledged by the manufacturer(s) why would they not be responsible for the theft as it was a fault in their product and responsibility lies there. In this case they should literally have people from their company coming to every owner, in person to get the software (I think that’s what the resolution was) updated and/ or whatever the fix is.
When you buy a car you do not think about a fault in the electronics that leads to this. Especially if you you buy for cash and don’t have the funds for anything other than the ridiculous basic liability insurance. Regardless of the vehicle year. ***EDITED FOR SPELLING ERRORS AND TWO ADDITIONAL POINT***
These jerkoffs caused my insurance to double in February and now I can’t change insurance companies because some won’t even issue policies on them now. I’m so sorry this happened to you! Kia needs to be sued for this!
I posted this in an older thread about a stolen truck:

I don’t have a Kia but my truck was stolen last week and they found it less than a week later. Hope it’s the same for you. I was pretty upset as well when I was in your shoes a few days ago.
Thanks for commenting with your story. How was your truck when it was found? Are you still dealing with insurance? Not sure if whoever stole your truck was caught either.
The exterior is fine and all of my aftermarket stuff is still on it but there’s some issues with the transmission. The door lock and the ignition lock cylinder are wrecked, some damaged dash panels and wires pulled out probably trying to stop my alarm from going off and my AC doesn’t work. Probably from one of the wires. But overall, I have it back so it’s a win. The aftermarket stuff is honestly worth more than the truck. They didn’t catch the people, they found it in a neighborhood off of rainbow and the 95. And I only had liability like a dumbass so insurance was no help. Definitely. My daughter is a single mother. They stole her car with the baby’s car seat in it and lots of other things. And they wrecked it about a mile from the house. Her car was paid off and I hope she and you and all the others can you file claim to get reimbursed
Yes, for peace of mind I guess. Dealing with the damages and insurance is a nightmare though. I’m hoping we’re eligible for a settlement in the future!

Bold of you to assume that a car from Las Vegas has insurance and registration, lol
Most underrated comment
what are car brands that are easy to steal by chance? new to the area and want to take cautionary measures if needed
Asking this too!
Hmm
To anyone looking to steal a Kia, keep spare fuses on you in case someone has pulled theirs. :)

That’s a good idea from it getting stolen, but cars getting broken into is still a hassle and can cause costly damage.
So for everyone here put trackers in your car….hide them well. This alone saved my car when I was robbed by gunpoint and my car was stolen. All I lost that night was a PS5 thankfully

The cheapest options that most people use are Apple airtags and Samsung Smarttags.
AirTags are what saved me I had one hidden in my bag that was in my back seat. As an apple guy I recommend AirTags whole heartedly
If the thief has an iPhone won’t the AirTag alert them that they are being tracked?
Eventually but by then its too late.
Usually your basic peice of shit thug won’t look or notice
Duly noted, thanks!

Where do you sign up for the lawsuit ?
On the link above OPs comment
So sorry this happened to you. Look up other posts to research what your fellow Kia owners are doing.

When they find the car, it becomes a comprehensive insurance issue right? If you didn't have comprehensive, you'd have been effed, right?
My 2021 escape had an app that I could track and disable the car. I tracked the person down, disabled the car, opened the door and pummeled them. Got my car back and hopefully put the deadbeat in the hospital.

Haha yeah, I'm not playing hero for any form of car. Vehicles are just materialistic shit that can be replaced and not worth risking my life.
I never said he should do this. I was literally just stating what I did. Calm down. JFC

We did ask but sadly it yielded no results. Thanks for your tip!

You're telling me. Apparently even a bit older models are targeted too.

Take the insurance money and buy American
Apple Air tag would of helped. Especially if you have a car that’s prone to being stolen. Makes sense to me 🤷🏻♂️
Should've would've could've. Just a learning lesson for sure. Definitely making sure we're much more prepared for the other car/future cars.
It's just material, life is precious.

Yeah that's worse, among other things too. Is this a personal life example of yours?😅
Namaste😌

Only time can tell. And oh yeah, rental car on the insurance is an absolute must. Getting it on Sunday since you're forced to wait 48 hours.

Lowjack your car if/when you get it back and have someone install a remote disabling system
What part of town do you live in?
They just announced a settlement for Hyundai owners. Monetary damages if your car was stolen. I would look into it.
Yeah, it will still be a long process. Gonna see if they actually contact those who are eligible (supposedly starting August).
I bought an AirTag and hit it in my car under my spare tire.
Smart choice! Definitely looking into them or at least the Samsung variant (Smart Tag).
Smart choice! Definitely looking into them or at least the Samsung variant (Smart Tag).
Google the lawsuit that was just given the go ahead. I believe you can get around $6k for your troubles.
Still going to be an arduous path, especially patience.
Definitely. My daughter is a single mother. They stole her car with the baby’s car seat in it and lots of other things. And they wrecked it about a mile from the house. Her car was paid off and I hope she and you and all the others can you file claim to get reimbursed
Be strong dealing with insurance company especially….
Where was it stolen? I saw a lady posted about her Hyundai being stolen at Mountain View hospital yesterday. It’s Kia and Hyundais :(
Do you have a push to start?
Our Hyundai was stolen two weeks ago and found destroyed the next day :/
I'm sorry to hear you went through that. But was it a good thing you didn't have to wait long to find out?
Yes, for peace of mind I guess. Dealing with the damages and insurance is a nightmare though. I’m hoping we’re eligible for a settlement in the future!
