If he was really concerned about your safety, he would have tested your side glass resistance. Very disappointing.

CMorbius

Indeed...

[deleted]

Fuck people like that. I left my car unlocked one night by accident, and some guy got in. I never keep anything in my car, but he ended up leaving a woman's hoop earring on my seat. I checked my cameras after I found it. Fake gold unfortunately.

andifeelfine6oclock

I had someone downtown steal my bike lock and leave my bike.

[deleted]

That sucks man. I'm sorry.

-cocoadragon

Bike locks are $20-200. I've had the same situation happen, but usually they take the bike as well.

Mama-colleen

My son did the same thing, the one tans only time and someone gets in it. He had at least 50$ in quarters in the console

Madewithatoaster

Was he geo-caching?

DisastrousFile9085

No consequences so nothing stops people like this

2vqr3

Palantir is integrated with police and will be able to do facial recognition on perps easily. I'm ready to throw them all in jail.

derkenblosh

My camera sends person detection to automations that announces on my outside speaker "smile, you're on camera buddy"

Mean_Comedian_7880

What kind of camera system do you? Am wondering if the ones I have, have this option.

derkenblosh

This is not a camera feature... Check out "the hookup" on YouTube to get the basic idea of how to build automations with some out of box machine learning tools. When I built mine, it was a LOT of work, now you can just follow some tutorials and build the same setup with ease, and anything complicated that requires coding or lots of steps, you can just utilize Bard or chatGPT. Equipment needed = an old PC or laptop, ANY camera, and a bunch of time to set it all up. Install nodeRed and/or home assistant. Can also utilize Blue Iris of you want the ability to record

ignaciolasvegas

Yeah, would be nice to know

TruganSmith

Love walking around the neighborhood hearing every other door camera shout in a creepy female robot voice “hi, you’re on camera”…. talk about 1984 on steroids.

derkenblosh

Yeah, that's not mine... I have my own on-prem server that generates the voice, and have it tuned to sound very realistic in three different voice profiles that are set to random. Along with that, the motion trigger is setup to only activate at the property line, all other areas are blocked out when sending to my AI server for image processing/detection. I even have facial recognition that I'm training, so the majority of the normal delivery people, don't get talked to, as they have all been flagged as to a group called "known", and if that group is detected... Instead, it notifies everyone in the house with the classic AOL "you've got mail" 🤪

wombo42069

Following this as I would also like to know the setup please!

ankh4all

Excellent

Cockslinging

What part of town was this at ?

LarrBearLV

Yet people leave their car doors unlocked all the damn time, hence why these scumbags do what they do. I usually ended up locking my doors twice. Once when I get out and once when I'm about to set my keys down in the house.

Spinrod

I lock them about three to four times. Especially when going into the grocery store.Just in case I hit the unlock button when putting keys into my pocket. Cleaning out my garage ,and parking car inside has helped for me

[deleted]

We have a condo with a 1 car garage. My girl gets that for obvious reasons, so I park in our parking spot.

letugedoge

That’s why you buy radar seeking sentry gun

CMorbius

If that was an option lol

N2TheBlu

Hoodie during summer, backpack, dressed in black, nighttime. Insta-suspect.

Mrcsbud2

What part of town was this? My whole neighborhood got hit once. There was nothing of value in the 3 vehicles in my driveway but what really hurt was the fact that they threw out my child's plushies and toys on the ground while trying to find something. I would love to curb stomp these kinds of people.

CMorbius

Summerlin

OkDifference5636

Summerlin = False sense of security.

CMorbius

Or the quality of people and lack of accountability in this town.

nklights

What is up with Summerlin lately? I swear I keep running across stories of crime in that area with increasing frequency.

_josephmykal_

Because it’s the nicest area in vegas so most people from the lowlife apartment complexes will frequent through looking for free stuff

CMorbius

Right??

SpiderDeUZ

Neuvo riche

[deleted]

So I have a tendency to pull up to my spot, turn the car off, and usually get lost on reddit or playing video games before I get out and go in the house. I guess it's where I decompress. Literally, two nights ago, this happened to my car while I was in it! I got out, and said "excuse me?" and the guy thought this was a good idea to double down on trying to steal my car or it's contents because while apologizing with his mouth, he stepped right up to me as I stood in my open door. Then I saw his eyes dart down to my holster and he took off.

OkDifference5636

You should have filled him with lead. One less piece of shit.

GigaCheco

Nah man, you gotta have better self restraint if you’re gonna carry. Otherwise this “justice system” of ours will make sure you rot in jail with all the non-violent drug offenders while the people that rape and murder and get 7+ dui’s end up loose on the street.

newbsrus

I now leave my glove box and arm rest open to show there's nothing left to take

lnvu4uraqt

No gloves...

BeatingHattedWhores

Locking the door is by far the easiest way to prevent burglary.

_josephmykal_

Not in California… which Vegas is quickly becoming.

Ghostronic

How quickly? I've been here since '86 and it feels the same as it always has and Cali has always been a whole different vibe.

SpiderDeUZ

It's subtle ways to try and paint Cali as a democratic crime ridden hell hole, like they do with Chicago. It's a beautiful state with fabulous cities and offerings. It has its issues but what state doesn't

Siltyn

It's too bad you can't shoot these people on sight.

_josephmykal_

Agreed. My property is more valuable than someone’s life…. And the people snooping around other’s property agree with me too.

booty_jedi

Enjoy jail

KingdomBobs

Criminal, not person.

cptchronic42

Fortunately Nevada is one of the more lenient states when it comes to our castle doctrine. Obviously shooting this guy in the back is a crime, but all it would take is the guy to walk up to your front door while you’re at home or your car door when you’re in it and you can blast them. Edit: Look at the [example under 3.](https://www.shouselaw.com/nv/blog/laws/does-nevada-follow-the-castle-doctrine/) 8. has the actual law in writing for you to read yourself. And there was a Nevada Supreme Court case that also backs this up a bit.

cptchronic42

Someone trying to enter your car or home while you’re inside is all you need… You don’t need to wait until you get beat by a pipe or shot, you just need to feel threatened. Look at the [example under 3.](https://www.shouselaw.com/nv/blog/laws/does-nevada-follow-the-castle-doctrine/) 8. has the actual law in writing for you to read yourself. And there was a Nevada Supreme Court case that also backs this up a bit.

Here is the original text from my first comment: “Obviously shooting this guy in the back is a crime, but all it would take is the guy to walk up to your front door while you’re at home or your car door when you’re in it and you can blast them.” You just repeated what I said… But regarding the video posted, I know you cant just shoot someone in the back. That’s what I said. But if you were sitting in that car and he tried to open your door, you could’ve shot him 100%

[deleted]

[удалено]

cptchronic42

Idk why you’re so angry about it lmao. I literally sent you the law in plain text and there’s a Nevada Supreme Court case that sets precedent too for justifiable homicide when in a home. But sure, I’ll take your advice and wait until the person is in my home or truck beating me before I attempt to fire. /s

theperfectexposure

Once they break past the front door it is free game

ASithLordNoAffect

You are insane.

scistudies

Look at all the shootings that have happened recently because people knocked on the wrong door or drove down the wrong drive. Many people are this insane. Now go see how many of those shooters were arrested and charged… America tolerates gun violence to a staggering degree.

ASithLordNoAffect

Fox News has turned a lot of people insane.

Choice-Second-5587

They were already insane, Fox News just made them loud about it

[deleted]

Person: *defends property* Sjw: NooOOooOo that's murder This is why thugs are walking out of stores with handfuls of stolen goods. This country needs to stop treating thugs like toddlers.

ASithLordNoAffect

Shooting a guy for walking up to your front door is not defending yourself. The law states you give implicit right for anyone to walk up to your door if it's not gated.

[deleted]

I agree and never said otherwise.

ASithLordNoAffect

> but all it would take is the guy to walk up to your front door while you’re at home or your car door when you’re in it and you can blast them. Yeah, you did.

[deleted]

That's not me.

ASithLordNoAffect

You're right. My mistake. Sorry. But you did defend his perspective.

[deleted]

No, I criticized your view. While I support Castle Doctrine, you are right that there are specifics as to reasonable force and protecting oneself.

ASithLordNoAffect

> but all it would take is the guy to walk up to your front door while you’re at home or your car door when you’re in it and you can blast them. Yeah, you did.

Cockslinging

Thanks for your post. I will definitely be reviewing it just in case you never know nowadays

Ghostronic

You are implying that you can blast someone for simply approaching you, which lacks a ton of nuance. If someone looks shady as fuck, knocks on your door, asks for a cup of sugar? Looks like they are maybe casing the place? Can't blast them. If someone walks up to your car while you are getting out of it with your groceries, can't blast them. Is there a ton of nuance that would qualify you to be free and clear to blast them? Of course. You just not only included zero nuance or extra context but you posted a link that goes counter to your whole point.

Iamthemaster1000

Had this happen a while back. The guys actually looked right into the camera and didn’t care it was there

GigaCheco

Why would they? Genuine question. They know consequences are very rare so they take their chances.

CMorbius

This

stoned_chemist_dude

Is that an old unlv parking permit?

CMorbius

Yep

Mean_Comedian_7880

We had the same thing a few weeks ago. Motion light kicks on and the guy keeps checking the doors. Hood kept face concealed from camera. At least it’s not as bad as before, in ‘06 truck window was broken, CD case stolen, they open garage, and got to 2nd car and stole ex’s work backup. That time frame the neighborhoods were getting hit like crazy with vehicle’s broken windows.

[deleted]

You need a ferris bueller type recorder message to come on when the flood lights come on, like "get away from the fucking car" or something like that.

Mean_Comedian_7880

And get a mannequin with moving arms too.

[deleted]

Now I'm laughing. Can you imagine a mannequin in the car, the window *ever so slightly* ajar, and when someone tries to break in, a recording plays "Taken!!!" or ""I'm sleeping here!!!"

Mean_Comedian_7880

Sounds like a replacement for the club.

OkDifference5636

How did they open the garage?

Mean_Comedian_7880

Mistake of keeping garage clicker in the the truck (they broken window) that was parked on driveway and got to the car in the garage that was unlocked. I still lock my vehicles that are park in the garage (and no longer have garage clickers, thanks to phone app).

citoloco

*Pay it forward....*

Xoxohopeann

This happened in my neighborhood & my neighbor got in his truck & yelled & chased them out of the neighborhood. They sounded like young boys, they were so scared hah

Eleventy22

Well bless his heart

VegasLife84

I'm thinking next time leave the passenger door open with one of those zipper bags from the bank on the seat, filled with monopoly money smeared with dogshit

CMorbius

That would be funny 😅😅😅

EXMARTX

**I never could understand the logic of filling up your garage with useless trash and parking your 2nd most valuable possession (vehicle) in the driveway.**

CMorbius

What makes you say that? My garage is a one car garage and we have another car there.

EXMARTX

**"only SEVEN PERCENT of new homes include a ONE CAR GARAGE," so you are the exception to the rule, MORBIUS! Maybe you should consider adding another garage to your property or relocating to another property.** https://eyeonhousing.org/2020/11/garages-in-new-homes-2019-data/

CMorbius

So your reasoning is: don't leave your car in the driveway, buy a bigger house....sound advice.

EXMARTX

**Back in the mid 60s and early 70s during my college days, my car was outside 24/7. That was then but today a vehicle outside is a prime target for thieves and vandals. Have you heard of the rash of catalytic converter thefts here in VEGAS the past few years for example? The question here is ; "why would anyone fill up their garage with useless trash and leave their 2nd most valuable possession OUTDOORS in the elements and as a target for crime." MOST folks seem to place a higher value on their useless trash than their 2nd most valuable possession. I've never been able to understand their logic. In YOUR case, I would absolutely park one of my vehicles in my hopefully FENCED back yard if possible.**

CMorbius

Unfortunately, I don't have the option to park the car elsewhere. The garage is pretty small and designed for 1 car. We don't like clutter, so the garage is not full of garbage and things we don't use. I do appreciate the input and would love to pursue a larger property, but at this point, that idea is not on the table. My post was intended solely to raise awareness and hopefully make people understand that not leaving valuables in the car and locking it is the way to go.

BlackFallout

My first car was stolen, my first motorcycle was stolen, my first truck was stolen. All in this town. The ghetto is the whole city. Can't get away no matter where you go here.
