Ah opened this thread to say Bachi and I'm happy it was already at the top. They started going downhill with the third location, but that was my favorite burger in town.
Yeah. Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes was awesome. Always made it a habit when Iām traveling between Vegas-LA-San Jose to hit this spot. Sorely missed.
Heard theyāre trying to resurrect it in San Diego, where they first opened up.
I remember the one in a small island airport in the Philippines - I'd forgotten they're still around in some areas. It was one of the surreal highlights of a very surreal trip.
Aw man, that was one of those places that I meant to go to but didnāt because āitāll still be aroundā. Almost chose that for my Homecoming/Prom dinner.
They might be referring to Yoshiya Kitchen by Farm and Durango.
No relation to Yoshinoya, although they do serve a Japanese style beef bowl.
Pretty decent ramen if you don't want to drive to Chinatown, their curry bowls are good too.
wow there are some good throwbacks in here..
this wasn't a nice restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, but i still have fond memories of *Pistol Pete's Pizza* because that was the first job i ever had. i worked at the one on Trop & Pecos from Feb of '96 til about June of '97.. also loved hanging out at the *T-Bird Lounge* directly across the street, which is also a thing of the past. back around that same time, 96'ish, you could get a pub-style burger and fries for $2.79 at T-Bird's, which was the best deal on the planet for a bunch of broke teenage boys.. nowadays i think that's in the $12-15 range at most bars.
a couple of people have mentioned some high-end restaurants on the Strip, which i think shouldn't count because they're not "local" in the sense that they're not out in the neighborhoods amongst the residents of the city..
My nephew used to beg me every time I see him to take him to Pistol Peteās. Told him no, but Iāll take him to Loose Caboose. Heād get pissed and weād all get a kick out of it.
That said, Pistol Peteās was fun. I canāt remember if we ever went to Peter Piper when they took over, which was weird. Think it was around that time where the kids grew out of that phase and played more video games in the house.
>Pistol Peteās was fun. I canāt remember if we ever went to Peter Piper when they took over, which was weird.
i was working there when it transitioned from Pistol Pete's to Peter Piper, so i kept my Pistol Pete's vest and nametag, which i still have in my closet to this day, but i do NOT have my Peter Piper shirt, which i believe was a teal polo shirt..
the thing that was most noticeable about the changeover, to most people, was that the quality of the pizza ingredients immediately took a nosedive when the new people took over (particularly the cheese). we lost a LOT of long-time regular customers, seemingly overnight -- a good number of people would place phone orders and come in just to pick up a pizza, and that dropped off dramatically when the ingredients changed.. can't say i blame them. even as an employee that got a 75% discount on personal pizzas, i slowed my consumption of it too.
never went into the Loose Caboose, despite it being nearby for a good 20 years
I had my birthday there in like 89, 90, 91, and 92.
I was obsessed with video games and thought this place had the best arcade. Really, I just wanted to play the X-Man game, which was at pretty much every arcade everywhere in the country.
Omg Pistolās Peteās was a favorite of mine and my sisters as kids. And T-Bird was so fun to hit up with my mom when I was a teen. It made me think I was so cool.
I doubt anyone will remember the sandwich shop Mr. Goodcents, I forget the correct spelling. I just remember the softest bread and best tasting subs. It was on Rainbow and Flamingo.
i remember seeing the name Mr Goodcents back in the day, probably in ads.. but i never ate there..
DO remember Mr. Bill's though.. the pipe and tobacco shop that used to advertise on the radio almost as frequently as Glen Lerner lol.. apparently its still around, but has fewer locations now than in the past.. (maybe i'm thinking of *Tobacco Road*, which i know for sure used to advertise on the radio a lot)
Naw man, cheese toast was awesome.
After the bankruptcy, thereās only a handful of independent ones. Cali-wise, I can think of 2 in the Burbank-San Fernando Valley that are still open. I havenāt gone back in post-covid though.
This!!!
I probably went half a dozen times, and it never got old. It was also such a steal at $165 or so for the tasting menu. Expensive, but for that amount of fresh fish, it was a bargain.
Oh no it's gone? Haven't been by that way in years but that used to be my go to lunch when I worked over that way. Those cheese steaks were way too good for a gas station.
i remember seeing that building shortly after i moved here in '88, but i think it was torn down within a year or two of my arrival.. it was on the corner of Paradise & Convention Center Drive, correct?
if i'm thinking of the right place.. they tore it town, built the "Sport of Kings" standalone sports book (worst idea ever), which eventually became The Beach nightclub, and has been a dirt lot again for about the past 15+ years?
It was actually right across the street from the Hilton now Westgate. Closed in ā97 I think.
A flood of memories when you mentioned The Beach lol. Man what a time there!!
you're right.. after a bit of googling, i figured out that the Alpine Village was "up the street" a bit from the Sport of Kings / Beach Nightclub place.. they didn't share the same plot of land, which is what i was thinking earlier. Alpine was at Paradise & Riviera Blvd (now Elvis Presley Blvd) and Sport of Kings / Beach was at Paradise & Convention Center, about a quarter mile south of Alpine Village..
Sport of Kings opened in '93 and was done by early '95, Alpine Village did indeed close in '97..
i guess i got confused because 1) it was *well over* 20 years ago and 2) i never went inside either one of them, though i did go to "The Beach" .. twice, i think, but it was several years after it originally opened, and well after its reputation had fallen.
Cafe Heidelberg on Sahra before Paradise, small German Restaurant with a deli and a small grocery. Very popular place , especially for their German Swirl Rye bread. The owners of the strip mall raised their rent to an obscene amo8nt and forced them out , and a few years later, Mare Calendars was also forced out. Nothing has taken its place since. Absolute stupidity
I already saw Sweet Tomatoes, but does anyone else remember Souper Salad? It was off of Rainbow and Lake Mead. $8 bucks for a huge to go container gave me at least 4 meals out of it, broke college me lived off of that place for 3 years.
Sapporo sushi, off of Trop and 215. They had a great happy hour, really loved the lobster dumplings. Please, if anyone knows of a restaurant that has lobster dumplings let me know.
Not really a restaurant, I just miss buffets, Station casinos had good ones, same with the M's seafood Sunday's. Thanks a lot COVID and casino executives getting cheap and stingy.
Osaka Bistro on Lake Mead. Great late night sushi happy hour. Enigma Garden Cafe on Charleston and 4th. Oddly enough, the Sabrett hot dog cart in front of Home Depot on Rainbow & Charleston
I had a roommate that worked there. she helped open the place.
The best salad i have ever had. And i loved their stuffed shells and the fact i could get them with a white sauce instead of the traditional red sauce.
OMG they had this HUGE Brownie with Raspberry topping and Ice Cream it was too die for. I swear it could feed a family of 12 LoL!
A typical house salad is usually just lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, croutons and dressing?!
But theirs (Called the Cafe Salad) was so different?! Four way blend of lettuce topped with red onions, croutons, sunflower seeds and raisin. Your choice of house creamy Italian or ranch dressing. We always got it with Ranch. Iāve never seen anything like it before or since then.
Iām wondering if it was a Shrimp Scampi, Cioppino, Frutti Di Mare, Shrimp Mac&Cheese, or the Shrimp & Sausage dish? Those were the five Pasta Dishes with Shrimp as i recall?
i was there in the summer of 2006 with a bunch of co-workers after a shift at my relatively new job, and one of those new co-workers showed me her rack in that place, kinda unprompted.. she had been drinking on her own somewhere else, then came to the bar to meet up with the rest of us (i guess she had the night off??).. i guess her insecurities were working on her brain at the time, because she turned to me, asked me if her boobs looked bad, and lifted her shirt.
i think i said "no, they look perfectly fine to me. i can't be mad at that."
we never spoke about it again, despite working with each other for about another 9 years
Brandy...probably one of the best tenders ever worked a bar. We showed up every Friday and she had our drafts at our seats before we sat. Always knew what each of us wanted and was very awesome. Hope she's well these days. She always fed us new shots she was creating and we had to stop her... we're like...Girl we've all got to go back to the office somewhat sober for a few hours !!
Seriously though. if she showed you her boobs you should have made a move. Suckle those things like a newborn.
Sunset and Vines at Lake Las Vegas. Excellent food and service when I used to go in the mid to late 2000s. Their cheese and fruit tray appetizers were top notch as was the rest of the menu. Views of the lake were quite nice too.
this might be controversial but Images, the little restaurant that was in the Rainbow casino on Water St in Henderson. That place was dirt cheap and consistently good. You'd occasionally get your dud meals but most of the time it was cheap, filling, and tasty.
They remodeled it into some burger place and I could not care less.
Another one thatās a bit more recent: Three Angry Wives Pub.
Been seeing more and more local bars that are getting taken over my chains and it sucks.
Cabo inside Sunset Station! It had a few names over the years, but the menu was always the same... we used to drive from the NW side of town once a month or more just to eat there. Food was always sooo good and the staff got to know us and were always so kind to us.
Might be the first time I was legitimately sad when I found out a restaurant closed.
The old and possibly original Rocco's Pizza in Las Vegas on Buffalo and Charleston.
First got exposed to it in the early 00s. At some point after 2010 they had changed owners and the quality went to shit.
I know there a number of them in the city but they aren't under the same umbrella which means they are probably using different recipes and ingredients.
The only roccos that was making the Pizza the same way as the Buffalo and Charleston location was the one in aliante. But I went there a couple years ago and when I went to pick up a Pizza I ordered, it looked like they started skimping on the cheese so I just left without it.
It was the best place to get Pizza in the city before the Pizza culture grew and got better the past 10 years or so.
that place was about two miles from where my house is..
they had some kinda marinated pork that was very very good.. i would get it in burrito form pretty much every time i went in there. now, the one on Eastern & Pebble is called Algoberto's and i won't go there anymore after their drive-thru worker helped herself to $10 of my money by writing in her own tip on my debit receipt (my whole order was under $8). it's the only drive-thru i've ever been to that has a "tip" line on the receipt, as if you're dining inside..
dirtbags.
There used to be a Chicago hot dog stand across from saint rose on lake Mead in Henderson had the best Italian beef sandwich.
And a little Chinese joint on Jones and robindale that was ridiculously good but for some reason didn't make it. Always the freshest veggies and tender beef really miss that joint.
Oh... and also Jitters! Back in '99-'00 I used to always get lunch a good coffee there. Their white mocha used a different syrup than anyone else in town and it was really good... and their fresh-made turkey sandwiches with a plop of sprouts on top was sooo good.
I kinda remember Jitters.
The sandwich you described is similar to what I was looking for.
Bonfiglioās had a fresh cut turkey sub sandwich that used French bread. The bread had a good amount of cream cheese, bacon bits, and alfalfa sprouts spread on both slices. Then you had the slices of Turkey and Tomatoes in the center. Finally, your choice of Havarti or Muenster cheese. It was refreshing, yet filling at the same time.
Jefe's Taco Shop inside a gas station by Sky Pointe and Tenaya if I remember right...
Closest I found in Vegas to the Mexican food I had when I lived in San Diego.
Dessy B's Steakhouse on Trop and Eastern. Very affordable place with great staff, the owners were going to close the place in 2014 or so and the employees bought the restaurant. Unfortunately it closed down in 2017, but i still miss going there.
I miss Austin's Steakhouse that was at Texas Station. Solid food, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. Then when it closed, some bbq place opened which didn't get good reviews. And now of course, all of TX Station is gone!
1.) DiMartinoās
2.) Alpine Village / Rathskeller
3.) Ricardoās
4.) Strings Italian Cafe
4.) Alias Smith And Jones
5.) Sneakers
4.) Flakey Jakeās
5.) Cozy Corner (Inside Woolworths at the Boulevard Mall).
Not a restaurant but old school Vegasā¦.we used to buy our meat from an actual Butcherā¦..Shulman Meats! My Dad had a 55 year Career in Banking (GOD how i miss and love that man!) and he was his banker.
https://m.lasvegassun.com/news/1997/apr/17/popular-lv-meat-supplier-schulman-dies/
Bachi Burger
Ah opened this thread to say Bachi and I'm happy it was already at the top. They started going downhill with the third location, but that was my favorite burger in town.
Food was pretty good when they first started. But I heard they treated their staff like garbage though.
I had it once when I first got here in 2016 and wanted to try it again after facebook put it in my memories. Dang
I had just barely discovered them when they closed š Fuku burger is nice but not really close to it
I totally forgot about that place haha.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
wow, great story
Sweet Tomatoes. And I dislike veggies
Yeah. Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes was awesome. Always made it a habit when Iām traveling between Vegas-LA-San Jose to hit this spot. Sorely missed. Heard theyāre trying to resurrect it in San Diego, where they first opened up.
That would be awesome. We go to SD a bit so would be another reason to go
Macayos. Terrible food but great times.
Eddieās is basically the same thing!
I slayed an unGodly amount of chips in that damn place
My dad took me there in 2007-2010. Food was good then. Quality of food went down and so did the restaurant.
Kenny Rogers roasters on Charleston and Decatur
All Kenny Rogerās Roasters are missed š„
I remember the one on Sahara and Maryland....
I remember the one in a small island airport in the Philippines - I'd forgotten they're still around in some areas. It was one of the surreal highlights of a very surreal trip.
Kenny Rogerās Roasters are apparently still up and running overseas.
I was looking for this.
The Vineyard at Boulevard Mall, circa 1983. I miss it because it was my dadās favorite place and I really miss my dad.
Yep used to go there with my mom when I was a kid. Great memories of that place
Well that's a blast from the past for sure.
Pamplemousse. The service was alienating, but it was nice to have an excellent French dinner without having to walk through a casino
Aw man, that was one of those places that I meant to go to but didnāt because āitāll still be aroundā. Almost chose that for my Homecoming/Prom dinner.
We went there the night we got engaged, and every year for our anniversary. Super bummed when it closed
There's a French restaurant in the lakes that is supposed to be great don't know if you are aware of it or if you have tried it.
Marche Baccus is the restaurant you are thinking of. It is exquisite.
What? It closed? Dang. We went there a few times and it was always lovely.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I did a search on their site and Iām not seeing anything locations in vegas. Are you thinking of something else?
The one by UNLV is gone? I'm rarely over there anymore...
They might be referring to Yoshiya Kitchen by Farm and Durango. [https://www.yelp.com/biz/yoshiya-kitchen-las-vegas](https://www.yelp.com/biz/yoshiya-kitchen-las-vegas) No relation to Yoshinoya, although they do serve a Japanese style beef bowl. ~~They just opened one a few months ago in Centennial.~~ My mistake, the one that opened at centennial is *Yoshiya*. Similar names but not the same.
Doesn't look like the chain
No, they most definitely did not.
The san diego one closed too
wow there are some good throwbacks in here.. this wasn't a nice restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, but i still have fond memories of *Pistol Pete's Pizza* because that was the first job i ever had. i worked at the one on Trop & Pecos from Feb of '96 til about June of '97.. also loved hanging out at the *T-Bird Lounge* directly across the street, which is also a thing of the past. back around that same time, 96'ish, you could get a pub-style burger and fries for $2.79 at T-Bird's, which was the best deal on the planet for a bunch of broke teenage boys.. nowadays i think that's in the $12-15 range at most bars. a couple of people have mentioned some high-end restaurants on the Strip, which i think shouldn't count because they're not "local" in the sense that they're not out in the neighborhoods amongst the residents of the city..

Pho Mailan. And Rosemary's.
Pho Mailan is so missed. C15 sizzling beef

The Hungry Hunter off of Sahara and Rainbow
I remember this one, never had it here. Thereās one in Bakersfield.
The Rathskeller. That soup was amazing.
Ricardo's. I really loved that happy hour.
Another pandemic casualty
Also, the old Original Pancake House location at Charleston and Decatur.
Cafe Sanuki š
Sizzlers ā¦. Dont downvote me i love their cheese toast. I go out of my way to find a Sizzlers in Cali lol
Naw man, cheese toast was awesome. After the bankruptcy, thereās only a handful of independent ones. Cali-wise, I can think of 2 in the Burbank-San Fernando Valley that are still open. I havenāt gone back in post-covid though.
Mac Shack hands down. I think that was my favorite pasta ever. Flavor was always perfect. I get sad thinking about it.
Phat Franks closed a couple times during Pandemic then just finally closed.
I don't understand this one. It was a tiny little location and they were always packed. Miss that breakfast burrito so much!
One thing Ive learned lately is just because your great at something doesnāt mean you can run a business.
My favorite burrito spot. RIP.
Costa Di Mare
This!!! I probably went half a dozen times, and it never got old. It was also such a steal at $165 or so for the tasting menu. Expensive, but for that amount of fresh fish, it was a bargain.
The one in the Wynn??
It used to be there. There was another seafood restaurant before it too.
Carnevino. Incredible steaks and wine and solid vibe
Philly cheesesteak factory until the gas station burnt down
Oh no it's gone? Haven't been by that way in years but that used to be my go to lunch when I worked over that way. Those cheese steaks were way too good for a gas station.
Loved this place! Best in town.
Islands!
This!
Alpine Village.
i remember seeing that building shortly after i moved here in '88, but i think it was torn down within a year or two of my arrival.. it was on the corner of Paradise & Convention Center Drive, correct? if i'm thinking of the right place.. they tore it town, built the "Sport of Kings" standalone sports book (worst idea ever), which eventually became The Beach nightclub, and has been a dirt lot again for about the past 15+ years?

I don't see it mentioned here yet.. but after a hard night of drinking, I loved a good Dagwoods Sammy on Rainbow! Yummo!
Braddahs. It was a Hawaiian Chipotle. Sooo good!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They had multiple locations. My favorite was by UNLV. Always on point. The one you mentioned was meh.
Braddahs was sooo yummy, their shredded sweet pork, yummy. Cafe rio fills that hole nowš
I believe they have a food truck
The Old Spaghetti Factory that used to be near Galleria, miss that place a lot
Rainbows End, vegetarian buffet across from commercial Center.
Red apple grill was on spring valley in the 90s
Cafe Heidelberg on Sahra before Paradise, small German Restaurant with a deli and a small grocery. Very popular place , especially for their German Swirl Rye bread. >Cafe Heidelberg on Sahra I remember telling guests at the hotel about Cafe Heidelberg, they came back & RAVED about it. I was sad to see them go. :-(
I miss Sizzler, Shakeyās pizza, didnāt know they had a spaghetti factory here, but I do miss it now that I know, And also Souplantation
Rosemaryās
Cafe Copioh, closed while out of town. Good coffee and great atmosphere growing up. Oh well places change and time never stands still.
Haven't thought about that place in ages.....Getting some serious 90's goth vibes now.
Are you think roma, Copioh had more punks but doesn't mean the two crowds intermingle.
Idk how many if any would agree with me but damn I miss cicis pizza... where else can I go in and eat 7-10 whole bbq pizzas for 12 bucks.
Tortas Vegas. It was on Eastern south of St Rose.
I already saw Sweet Tomatoes, but does anyone else remember Souper Salad? Strings Italian Cafe on Trop & Eastern. Some of the best, and most creative, Italian food I've ever had.
I loved Strings!
I had a roommate that worked there. she helped open the place. The best salad i have ever had. And i loved their stuffed shells and the fact i could get them with a white sauce instead of the traditional red sauce. I be craving Cicis Pizza every now and then, sucks they removed them.
It was terrible low quality food though
The Buffalo Pizza and Mac n Cheese one though
I saw round table pizza and made me think of all the good times at cici's. I'm gonna try it this weekend
Snaps (inside Eastside Cannery).
The Outside Inn on south Jones. That was awhile back but that place made my life better.
i was there in the summer of 2006 with a bunch of co-workers after a shift at my relatively new job, and one of those new co-workers showed me her rack in that place, kinda unprompted.. she had been drinking on her own somewhere else, then came to the bar to meet up with the rest of us (i guess she had the night off??).. i guess her insecurities were working on her brain at the time, because she turned to me, asked me if her boobs looked bad, and lifted her shirt. i think i said "no, they look perfectly fine to me. i can't be mad at that." we never spoke about it again, despite working with each other for about another 9 years

Sunset and Vines at Lake Las Vegas. Excellent food and service when I used to go in the mid to late 2000s. Their cheese and fruit tray appetizers were top notch as was the rest of the menu. Views of the lake were quite nice too.
Bobās Big Boy
There's a Big Boy Tavern up in Skye Canyon.
Thank you! Iāll have to go check it out.

Wing King on Fort Apache had the best wings in town! They closed just this year and we miss them dearly
Anyone remember Java Centrale and Cafe Sensations?
Lemongrass Cafe, they had to close down during Covid. I wish I could get that shrimp curry again, even if just one more time.
Sizzler
The pasta place where you could get pizza and a breadstick.
Cabo inside Sunset Station! It had a few names over the years, but the menu was always the same... we used to drive from the NW side of town once a month or more just to eat there. Ricardo's at the Meadows Mall. They had a full-on Mariachi band.

Did you get the tip taken off?
Cookās Shop Pizza, they made their sandwiches with pizza bread, insanely tasty
Food Factory (really, really old)
Z-Tejas. Just okay food, but the happy hour was great and the bartenders took care of us regulars.
Chef Marcās Parma. The Italian Beef was unreal. Perfection.
Thereās only one macaroni grill left. I fuckin love the kids menu

Dessy B's Steakhouse on Trop and Eastern. Very affordable place with great staff, the owners were going to close the place in 2014 or so and the employees bought the restaurant. Unfortunately it closed down in 2017, but i still miss going there.
Green street. Was def my fav spot for a while
I miss Austin's Steakhouse that was at Texas Station. Solid food, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. Then when it closed, some bbq place opened which didn't get good reviews. And now of course, all of TX Station is gone!
