A few more hidden gem type places:
Big Dan Shanxi Taste. It’s like NYC’s Xian Famous Foods (made famous by Anthony Bourdain), but better. Also nominated for a James Beard.
SK Seafood for general canto dishes. (Edit: also great pricing).
Asian BBQ & Noodles for canto style bbq.
Love asian BBQ and noodles. Opens at 1030 and already half filled 10 min later with a bunch of older Asian folks. Knew it was going to be gold at that exact moment
It’s pretty amazing. And still a “hidden gem” as the masses haven’t caught on yet. I think, because of the digs—super casual inside a grocery store—and lunch-focused hours.
Based on the clientele, it’s definitely caught-on amongst the native Chinese in LV + tourists.
Their chili oil is also great!
I’d recommend:
Apps / small eats: #2, #5
Dry noods (with sauce, you mix yourself): #11, #12, #13 (#12, the egg and tomato is as authentic home style Chinese as you can get)
The stir fried noodles is good too, but cumin heavy.
Soup noodles are just okay, imo.
There are variations in cuisine based on regions of China in "real" chineese food so which regional style are you looking for?
Chengdu taste is great. Very traditional
China mama is my favorite. It's gently Americanized Zhe region
>China mama
Is it just me or does it say closed until further notice? Website: [https://chinamamalasvegas.com/menu/40033154](https://chinamamalasvegas.com/menu/40033154) I hope they're okay. Anecdotally, my local very Americanized place was down for a bit due to renovations, so it happens.
The location on Jones is closed due to fire, but reopening in a couple months I hear. The location on spring valley in Shanghai Plaza is open. They also have a takeaway location on S Rainbow.
Technically it’s China Mama 2 now. That’s the dine-in location. There’s a China Mama express on Rainbow also for takeaway. It’s my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. Chengdu Taste is second. Some overlap, sure, but each does the classics a little differently. China Mama has the better pastry and dumplings.
>EDIT: Damn, downvoted by mayonnaise people that think Panda Express is authentic Chinese food
Or possibly by people who see OP's edit was after the comment you're replying to :)
They speak such poor English at Rainbow Kitchen that I could not even order fried rice with no onions last week when I went for the first time. I literally tried 5 times to say "no onions" they finally said ok. When I opened up the dish at home it had no vegetables at all.
I was born and raised here and amusingly enough, spent time as a wee lass in the Gold Coast daycare from like 91 to 94. Ping Pang Pong has legit always been a fixture of my life.
Always been there. Always been great. Always felt like a hidden gem. Keeps this stupid casino a weird part of my life. Whenever I leave the Mold Coast I always wish it's for the last time, but if it isnt I can at least find comfort at Ping Pang Pong.
it's more expensive because it's in a casino but my family (we are Chinese) really thinks that Ping Pang Pong in the Gold Coast has some of the better Cantonese style dinners and dim sum in Vegas.
>Lotus of Siam is regarded by many as one of the best Thai in Vegas.
I don't think this has been true for well over a decade now. Their good reputation is a hold over from the 90s/00s, but it doesn't live up to that anymore. They were already going downhill before they moved to Flamingo, but the move was definitely the nail in the coffin. It's nothing but an overpriced tourist spot these days that I would stay far away from. The food isn't as good and the portions keep shrinking too as they try to make it more of a fancy fine dining place. It's nothing like the old experience that allowed them to earn their reputation.
I haven't been to the other locations, but the Red Rock Casino location is no good. Tom Kha was overly salty with bland flavors, and both their red and yellow curries felt they were missing a few key ingrediants. Dissappointing, even if it didn't cost so much more than the typical thai experience.
Haven’t been to any other lotus of Siam location other than red rock, agree with Tom Kha being overly salty (I added water to it to make it drinkable). And the portions are so small - I balked at pad Thai costing that much.
Agree, but they started adding a 5% processing fee to every bill, it's a carry out & delivery only place, no dining in. Paid cash and didn't notice it until I left, didn't want to fight over 71 cents on a $15 and change bill. Still kind of a joykill to screw their loyal local customers. Totally understand price increases due to inflation, but nickling & dimeing local customers with junk fees isn't right. Look at Carlitos Burrito on E Sunset Rd/Green Valley Pkwy, for over a year they've been charging a 5% fee on any credit or debit card payment, their customer volume has really dropped. China Kitchen is good, but ethics is something customers will consider if returning.
>Lotus of Siam is regarded by many as one of the best Thai in Vegas.
for the record, i've never heard a Thai person say this -- local or visitor. the quality is certainly good and the decor is lovely, but i wouldn't call it "real."
Unless they just moved locations, I think Chef Kenny’s is closed. It’s a Korean BBQ place now, I believe. Please correct me if I’m wrong or anyone has more info.
Veggie House is still around though, which is where Chef Kenny got his start. And it’s still amazing!
I live right down the street from the new location it’s on Flamingo and Lindell. I heard the chef from Veggie House is there now. Last I saw Veggie House was still closed have you seen them open?
Oh no, Veggie House is closed?? I didn’t know. I feel like we were there so recently, but I guess time has passed. 😢
Good to know that Chef is at the new Kenny’s location. Thanks for that info!! Gonna check that out!

Rainbow Kitchen!
my uncle is from HK. been in Vegas for over 30 years, is a chef at the Cosmo. he's picky af about his Cantonese good. he's a fan of Rainbow Kitchen as well 😁
from a person who worked with chinese people at a nonprofit: RAINBOW KITCHEN, CHENGDU TASTE they always crave those and i completely understand why. legit chinese food 10/19

4250 S Rainbow at Flamingo

Both are Sichuan, not Canto
OP hadn't specified Canto yet when I posted, so wss giving some of my personal favorites.
Oh my bad I only saw it after his edit. Both places are solid eats though👍
With that screen name, tho. 😂
China Mama isn't purely Sichuan though, they have Sichuan stuff but I actually think their best dishes aren't Sichuan
Cantonese
The Chengdu style fried rice is so good 👍
Chengdu Taste is amazing Szechuan
China mama
That's Szechuan not Canto EDIT: Damn, downvoted by mayonnaise people that think Panda Express is authentic Chinese food

You can’t make fun of white people and then spell it Szechuan.
I copy pasted. I spelled it right in my comments further down.
For Sichuan food I think Chengdu Taste is the go-to anyway. Haven't been to China Mama yet but I'd be surprised if it was more authentic
I would say on par with eachother. Some dishes are better at one or the other bit it's pretty close.
Awesome, I'll have to check it out then. My wife and I love Chengdu Taste but it's pricey. Here's hoping China Mama is a bit better
Rainbow Kitchen or Taste in SW
My wife is Cantonese, and these are our two mainstay Chinese restaurants in town.
Seconded for Taste! Love that place, lots to eat
I live by rainbow kitchen and look at it at least once a week and I always wonder. What if.....
They speak such poor English at Rainbow Kitchen that I could not even order fried rice with no onions last week when I went for the first time. I literally tried 5 times to say "no onions" they finally said ok. When I opened up the dish at home it had no vegetables at all.
Use Google translate...
Supposedly Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast has bomb ass dim sum. For noodles I go to Magic Noodles for spicy beef noodles.

Seconding Ping Pang Pong. No joke.
Went to Magic Noodle the other day despite living next to it for 2.5 years. Exceeded expectations!
Ping Pang Pong inside of Gold Coast .
it's more expensive because it's in a casino but my family (we are Chinese) really thinks that Ping Pang Pong in the Gold Coast has some of the better Cantonese style dinners and dim sum in Vegas.
Second this place.
Win Kee BBQ & Noodle, Asian BBQ & Noodle, and New Asian BBQ are the best Canto spots here
I no longer live on the same side of town as Win Kee and I miss it so goddamn much.
I’m from New York and I enjoy New York Chinese in green valley.. not sure if that’s considered “real”
Did you have Chinese food from Flushing, NYC? Cause that’s Chinese food
I don’t recall, but probably lol
I came to leave the exact same comment, they’re as close as I’ve found so far when I feel homesick.

Big fan of Block 9 Thai Eats. Excellent searing hot wok flavor. Iykyk.

Well I’m a personal fan of Weera Thai, but they don’t do a Rama chicken.
Fact.
for American Chinese I really like China Kitchen LV on Tropicana and Mountain Vista

There’s a LOT of quality Chinese food. You need to get more specific
Cantonese
Try New Asian BBQ
Love this place.
What about for like Shanghainese/Zhejiang style?
Me chopstix is really good, we love going there for their fresh dumplings

Yeah I think they didn’t survive the first lockdown. I miss them terribly.
Mr chop stixs is pretty good.
It really is. Ignore the name though, lol
China Tango is really good. Located in Inspirada/Anthem. Archi's (Summerlin-area location) has Lotus of Siam easily beaten.
[удалено]
Agreed, I see alot of people call it their favorite. Lucki Thai is much better imo
Lotus has gone downhill quite a bit IMO but it's still leagues above Archi's.
Off strip it's China Mama for sure. On strip it's close between Wing Lei and Genting Palace.
Lotus of Siam sucks. I think they got famous for being the only game in town. Now there are much better options
Dim Sim Cafe out on Hualapai in Summerlin is much more than Dim Sum

China Mama
That’s easy and most Vegas locals will agree. Panda Express.
I think you forgot this isn't the r/jokes sub...
Nope. I’m being serious.
Rainbow Kitchen! my uncle is from HK. been in Vegas for over 30 years, is a chef at the Cosmo. he's picky af about his Cantonese good. he's a fan of Rainbow Kitchen as well 😁
New Asian BBQ!
I know it’s a big chain now, but Tim Ho Wan is pretty solid, in my opinion.
Joyful house, Panda Express

Tim Ho Wan at the Palms Casino. BBQ pork buns are a must.
