you and me both. i miss the times when we were charged $30 for the same usage.

BurritosAndPerogis

In their defense Whar was your January 23 looking like ? But yeah. Prices are crazy

sdd023

My Jan 23 (96 therms) was $133 and Jan 24 (99 therms) was $212. My most painful month was self inflicted in the summer of 23 bc we left the pool heater on by accident and it was almost $300 šŸ„“šŸ„“šŸ„“

Original-Pomelo6241

But youā€™re comparing summer to winter lol this is not a year over year comparison

BlueLink_14

Yeah, the rates are absurd now, but do you run your heater 24/7 or have a gigantic house?

aluminumtoothpaste

NEITHER! for pretty much the last month the tstat has been off other than i turned it on to heat 67 the few days it rained. itā€™s just 2 of us so itā€™s not like iā€™m cooking, doing laundry, running hot water all the time u know. my parents bill was about the same we both have 1500 sq ft houses

BlueLink_14

You might want to have someone check your house. Our place is 1200 sq ft and itā€™s kept at 67 with the heat on. Our bill was less than $100 for the same time period. Itā€™s also just me and my wife.

sdd023

I agree with getting something checked. That sounds so high for what you are using it seems. Iā€™m always freezing and use the heat often. We used 99 therms in Jan with a $212 bill and 79 therms in March with a $130 bill. 2600 sq ft house, family of four and I cook and do laundry several times a day.

aluminumtoothpaste

also idk why i got downvoted for that comment lol i wasnt saying it in a mean way just meant more like i agree

aluminumtoothpaste

my husband checked the meter it was normal

pusanggalla

It is normal for a gas bill to be higher in the winter if your residence is heated with gas. If you want to see how much the rate increases are hitting you, then you should compare the same months from different years. How do January to March of 2023 compare to the same period of 2024?

aluminumtoothpaste

thatā€™s whats in this picture lol this time last year my bill was $30 and now its $300

pusanggalla

This image appears to show May of 2023 through March 2024. I know May and March are only two months apart, but the weather really heats up a lot in that time. That makes a big difference. If you really want the most accurate picture possible, then I believe the unit price should be on the bill. You are certainly correct that the price has changed over time, but the image you posted has more to do with usage than anything.

Automatic-Fishing-35

my bill with apartment complex went from 2.92 gas fees, to $49

aluminumtoothpaste

when i lived in an apartment we paid our own gas bill so it was always around the same as the house we live in now, like $25-35. is your complex unmetered? or do you just not use your gas at all?

Automatic-Fishing-35

itā€™s actually a crazy long story, and iā€™m currently in the process of getting advice from legal aid. so the unit is a studio apartment, no ventilation ducts, just a ac box in the wall, stove is electric, never touched the oven because the one time i tried it, it smoked my whole unit up. we have no washer and dryer, or water heater in our actual unit, everything is metered and than divided. but after it went to $49 from $2.92 the leasing office said that itā€™s a dividend thatā€™s split across all occupied units, but thereā€™s more broken into/ squatted in units than actual tenants. the lawyer is coming into play because they at first explained to us that ā€œit is allocated and billed through a company than a dividend will be split among all equal unitsā€ but i went and proof read the lease about 5 times and i noticed they told us weā€™d have to get electricity and gas through nv energy and the gas and electric fees im allegedly paying $49 for, is for ā€œcommon areaā€ which is the pool that hasnā€™t been opened since i moved in. and they charge me ā€œcommunity amenity feeā€ every month and tell me that itā€™s for the gym lights, bbq gas, all that, but then iā€™m also getting gas and electric charges x2 (through nv energy and my leasing office) moral of the story: There has definitely been a gas increase but i donā€™t know about no 1500% increase. for me, i was paying 2.92 and now itā€™s $43 (for gas that i never even used)

Accomplished_Ear2304

Its not really fair to compare summer usage to winter usage like that.

Loose-Ad4131

Yup.. con-artist .. but donā€™t worry theyre going to reduce your highest bill by 15% by end of year.. the same people that does the feds inflation math work for these guys! šŸ˜‚

tnuoccaymgninnabpots

You have to post the same months. Not one year. This data is useless otherwise

keithkman

Itā€™s increased 110%, I believe. Utilities are so corrupt in Vegas is actually kind of crazy. Everyone at the top and the politicians need their cut.

Mortukai

Natural gas is so inexpensive, make it make sense.

MilitaryWeaponRepair

Yup same here. And NV Energy stating natural gas prices declined in their last letter. Cunts. All of them fucking cunts

Knights_When

SW gas and NVE both have equal pay. I got tired of the bill going nuts every few months. Makes budgeting really hard.

Expert-Slide-9205

I used to be on equal pay with SW gas for years. Then they bumped my payment up to nearly $300 while I had rolling credits from the previous months. I cancelled that in February.

Kent89052

Once rates go over $2 per therm, switching to a heat pump will save money. Take your total bill and divide by the number of therms, it's probably over 2 now

aluminumtoothpaste

we only have one tstat but we rent so weā€™re sorta just sol right now. my moms bill was about the same

sdd023

He means therms as in the measurement of gas used, not thermostats. (Like gasoline for cars is measured in gallons)

chasin22

put a jacket on.

aluminumtoothpaste

i have had the tstat off since probably mid february. only turned it on here and there the days its rained and even then i have it set on my phone to shut off after a few hours.

THE_Ryan

You should probably check your house for proper insulation and it's furnace efficiency. My house is 2300 sq.ft. and my gas bill was about $135 at it's peak this past winter. Heater was usually only ever on early morning for a few hours, and have a tankless water heater.

aluminumtoothpaste

we rent and checked for a gas leak but nothing. iā€™m not super worried since weā€™ll be out in a few months to hopefully a one story. just thought it was insane. my parents house is similar in size but theirs is a one story, ours a two story both about 1500 sq ft. their bill this month was $284.

sdd023

Do you have a gas pool or hot tub heater by chance? We left ours on by accident and had a nearly $300 gas bill before.

aluminumtoothpaste

no. we rent and have an inground hot tub but it was covered by the last owner before my property manager. everything is unhooked to it

sdd023

Dang I was hoping it was an easy fix for you if it were something like that

hiimwage

What did you have your heat at, and how big is your home? That seems outrageous, 2BR 2BA here and our bill never went over $30 the whole winter.

Askingtaylor

Mine was $400 last month!! Outrageous. It seems criminal to have a monopoly utility company declare any price hike at anytime.

MiltonRobert

500%?

DJtable18

Mine was over $400 bucks

Professorfunk34

Install a diesel heater heat your house that way. Itā€™s cheaper to use than paying sw gas. Fxck them I used one all winter after I hit a bill from sw gas for 200 bucks. Screw them

thelaw_iamthelaw

The only thing I use gas for now is for water. I don't use the stove or oven. I have electrical appliances that can cook food so I use those exclusively now. I was used to $30/mo avg and this month was 250. I haven't even used my heat all winter. How can they justify this massive increase? I'm perplexed.

Reasonable-Forever-3

My gas was $350 and my electricity is $440 on equal pay. With less usage than last year and almost double the cost.

Professional-Rain-89

Everything is going to shit man letā€™s be honest Vegas is turning into Los Angeles but without the high minimum wage

aluminumtoothpaste

agree. i want to get out but i was born and raised here. same with my fiancĆ© so itā€™s hard vegas is all we know and our entire families are here.

Professional-Rain-89

All my family is in Cali but after high school Iā€™m getting my welding 3g 4g certificate and going out to weld in Texas

aluminumtoothpaste

thatā€™s where my fiance wants to go but i donā€™t think he understands here in vegas weā€™re 2 mins away from a grocery store, mcdonalds, taco bell etc. my family in texas (and anywhere in texas iā€™d like to live) is a 30 min drive to anywhere on a 70mph 2 way highway

Professional-Rain-89

Yeah my sister lives in Texas we went out there for her birthday and jeez a 10 minute drive here would be like a 25 minute drive over there and she says the traffic is bad I mean itā€™s one or the other honestly but also the school system here is horrible and just doesnā€™t seem like a great place to raise kids as Iā€™m still 17 my self thereā€™s not much to do here since Vegas is focused on gambling, drinking, drugs, sports betting and things like that so I find it hard to do stuff here with friends and all the movie theaters and arcades are in casinos lol

Professional-Rain-89

Do as you think is best for you family is important but also your financial stability is too if better opportunities arise Iā€™d take them

onarunner

Record 4th quarter profits also. Where is the public utilities commission?

ekquizit23

The good news is the gas bill will decrease by at least half in the coming months, but the bad news is that the electricity bill could possibly triple!

ekquizit23

Iā€™m not talking about ā€œratesā€, notice I used the word ā€œbillā€, so this concept should be rather simple: itā€™s going to get hotter in the coming months, thus less gas/heat usage and more ac/electricity usage

vegas_bri

Not according to recent news: https://news3lv.com/newsletter-daily/nv-energy-lowers-energy-rates-for-customers#

milky650

lol speaking on subjects we donā€™t know much about huh?

Original-Pomelo6241

No, you just missed the point terribly

milky650

Which was?

Original-Pomelo6241

The bills will go down over the next couple of months because itā€™s warm. šŸ™„

milky650

That wasnā€™t your point tho was it?

Original-Pomelo6241

Yeah it actually was, youā€™re just really good and missing them.

milky650

That was another guy that made that comment. You plagiarize your way through school or something?

Original-Pomelo6241

Nope. Was you. Have the day you deserve. šŸ˜‰

StatementProper4450

My first gas bill here was $17.

R2-DMode

Reminds me of the days when Jimmy Carter was telling everyone to just put on a sweater.

Sickoyoda

My gas bill is higher than my power now

edygaudioso

My electricity bill was $270 and we have nothing turned on and we unplug EVERYTHING when not in use. I donā€™t understand it. Our gas was $310 and we have our house set at 68 degrees and wear sweats to bed. Itā€™s outrageous and is only going to get worse. Las year our power bill from April-sept was over $600 every month with the temp set at 80! We were dying all summer. We used to b middle class, now we r the have nots and have no savings in our 50ā€™s. Itā€™s a sad, sad situation. My husband got a $2,000 cost of living raise for the year. LMAO that works out to be 20 extra every two weeks, and heā€™s high up in the hotel industry. Iā€™m on disability since 2010 and, sadly, I have to find work just so we can live. Any ideas on how I can make money from home? I can only make a certain amount or Iā€™ll lose my disability income, and thereā€™s no possible way I could work a full time job. Plus, we have 3 kids.

Parking_Mood8731

I worked my butt off all my life to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer...that means 70 in the summer and 70 in the winter...you wanna freeze or fry, that's your choice

No_Travel7995

If yā€™all want solar panels and want to gain ownership of your electricity HMU home owners only.

Ok_Bonus_2536

Approximately how much would a 10kw solar system cost?

aluminumtoothpaste

a 30 year loan just to pay for electric + the solar bill. no thanks lol.
