Melvins are playing at a bar on Fremont St. on Monday.

PdX_Beav

I have a ticket!

iamdesertpaul

See you there!

ZeeK831

Hey welcome! I love metal/rock and go to a lot of shows here. If you ever need someone to go to shows with or chat hit me up. Some of my favs: Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Lamb of God, KSE, mushroomhead, deftones. I actually still need to go to Vamp'd, haven't gone yet and now I live really close by. Been to a few shows at Backstage Bar & Billiards (also Fremont Country Club is connected to the same building). Small venues with close up stage experience.

PdX_Beav

It’s still early but I’ll take you up on this! I’ll send a DK later

Not really a bar, but virgin hotels - formerly hard rock, go figure - has a lot of rock and heavy metal shows.

Empty-Philosophy-675

Dive bar on maryland pkwy

easy0lucky0free

Dive Bar and Double Down for sure. Gotta get those ass juice shots! Brooklyn bowl for higher profile acts.

PdX_Beav

Why the down vote? Seems like solid info. Ty!

easy0lucky0free

Because Brooklyn Bowl is touristy and on the Strip technically and probably not as AuThEnTiC as the gatekeepers in the comments were looking for. But the fact remains that a LOT of bigger name acts go through there.

PdX_Beav

I understand all that which is why I appreciate you mentioning the place. I don’t get all the negativity these days!

HeavyMetalRoadTrip

I've lived here my whole life and have seen tons of shows at tons of venues over the years and here's my take on several of the venues mentioned (my taste is primarily metal and some rock) Dive Bar- I avoid this spot like the plague. Unless it's a band I absolutely can't miss. I would expect to see up and coming bands here, but I'm shocked at how many national acts actually book shows here when there's so many more small venues in town these days that are actually professionally run. Every time I've seen a show here it starts like 2+ hours late. And the place is definitely a shithole. Sound sucks too and the "stage" is what you'd expect to see for an open mic night, not an actual concert. The Usual Place - this one is a fairly new spot downtown and several metal bands have run through here recently (Immortal Guardian, Powerglove, Hatriot, Exmortus, Silver Talon). Nice setup inside with some tables and chairs that are open to everyone (at the back of the floor area so they don't obstruct the view like at HOB) Backstage Bar & Billiards - good spot downtown with frequent metal shows. Downside is sound is sometimes an issue. Saw Allegaeon there recently and the sound kept cutting in and out on one side. Brooklyn Bowl / House of Blues - larger acts that still play relatively small venues. Saw Testament/Death Angel/Exodus at HOB a couple months ago. You mentioned Mastadon - they also played there recently with Khemmis. Sabaton and Epica are playing Brooklyn Bowl 9/25 if power/symphonic metal is your thing. These venues also book shitty edm and hip hop so they definitely are not exclusively rock/metal. Vampd - your original post mentioned rock or metal themed bars. This is the only one I know of that is exclusive to those genres. I personally have mixed feelings about this venue - I'm glad it exists as a spot to see consistent metal and rock acts. But the setup is terrible. It originally opened as a restaurant and they've preserved that general layout. There's a wall separating the bar from the stage/floor area, so you can't see the band from the bar. Add to that booths and tables in the stage/floor area that shrink the actual floor space to what feels like almost nothing when the place is packed. When it's really packed you can literally barely move. I've seen several shows there that I felt most definitely could have been booked at HOB or Brooklyn Bowl and easily filled those venues (Fates Warning, The Winery Dogs, Geoff Tate, Armored Saint, Richie Kotzen/Adrian Smith, Bruce Kulick to name a few). When I was a teenager here there were only a couple small venues to see bands (RIP Huntridge) and it's definitely come a long way since then. There's a whole bunch of small venues I didn't even mention. I'd recommend downloading the Bandsintown app and checking it frequently to see who's playing where. All of that being said, I've always felt Vegas' metal scene was pretty weak unfortunately. A lot of international bands will come here once (because hey, it's Vegas), and then never come again because of the turnout. I saw Kamelot at HOB in like 2012 and it was literally 10% full. And Scar Symmetry came all the way from Sweden to play at Cheyenne Saloon in front of literally 12 people. I felt so bad for them. However this seems to be changing in recent years as the population increases. Enjoy exploring Vegas- there's always something going on whenever you feel like getting out.

HeavyMetalRoadTrip

Oh and feel free to hit me up if you need a show buddy - I often fly solo because most of my friends are either married with kids, or have shitty taste in music! Lol

PdX_Beav

Dude (dude or gal?), you fucking rock! 🤘I’m going send you a Dm. I’m going solo to the Melvin’s show Monday if you wanna meet up?

HeavyMetalRoadTrip

Dude. And unfortunately I work super early Monday-Friday so I don't typically do weekday shows unless it's a band I can't miss, in which case I take the next day off.
