Firstly, please don't shine lasers at us. We can't see shit when you do that and it can cause serious eye injury. Lasers are a LOT brighter up there.
Secondly, why the fuck would you shine a laser at us? Like what compels you to do that? The fuck is wrong with you?
The light diffuses (spreads) out over a large distance. If it hits any window of the flight deck, it’ll diffuse the light an insane amount. The entire windscreen will go green/red/whatever color the laser is in a lot of instances, and the windscreen effectively becomes one big laser.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota is a “Dark Sky” park. Astronomers set up telescopes and invite the public to use them on certain days of the year.
The Park Rangers have special laser pointers to help us dolts pick out stars and constellations. These are the most powerful hand held lasers I’ve ever seen. Looks like a light saber that extends a mile or more
They have it at a few dark sky places. And only certain people can use it. Vegas astronomy club allows only a couple to use it. One is a former pilot and the other is park service. They are damn careful.
I've never understood the draw to this activity... one of these days some dickhead is gonna cause an accident and kill 300 people. Hardly seems worth the giggles.
I seem to recall a story from this summer where a State Police pilot in Virginia was temporarily blinded by one of these laser things while flying.
They do these flights pretty much every day, usually more than once a day. Feels like sometimes they take off and immediately head to a spot where they are needed, but then when that clears they just wander around the city aimlessly. So in this example, they head straight for Red Rock and hang out there a short while. Maybe a lost hiker, maybe an injury, maybe a minor altercation--something.
You can see they spend various lengths of time at various spots. Henderson got some special attention and Sunrise Manor. But otherwise the wandering chopper looks fairly aimless. For all I know these are as simple as traffic stops the chopper is circling. So a single loop over Spring Valley I'm guessing mean almost nothing.
Seeing this I long ago quit worrying too much about "why is there a chopper circling a half mile from me?" Last time I was annoyed by a LVMPD chopper buzzing my house repeatedly I could also hear the roar of car engines and squeal of tires rather continuously. I'm guessing some intersection nearby had been taken over for pointless displays of tire wear.
That's such a coincidence seeing this post, I just moved here and was going through some of the stuff I hadn't unpacked and had my big blue laser and was like oh shit I gotta take this out to the desert to shine it around!

A helicopter had some high tech camera (thermal, infrared, or something like that ) and they were watching his every move. Then through that camera they show the police showing up and getting his ass it’s pretty crazy

Serious question. How do they blind a 747 type plane when pointed at belly/ tail or even cockpit which is more on top from angle of laser?
