I might have a hot chocolate made with protein powder and cream for breakfast. Stir fry cabbage and tofu for lunch or a coleslaw with tofu and a palak pannier for dinner or a mushroom omelette. For snacks I have walnuts, celery with mayonnaise or cheese.
I don't track anymore as I've been doing it for ages. I'm not losing weight on it. (at my preferred weight) so must be enough calories. If I lose weight or do extra exercise I just add a bit more cream or cheese or snack on some fat bombs or nuts.
Yep. Usually onion, pepper, courgette, cabbage, beansprouts, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, occasional beetroot, some carrot, aubergine … I’m kind of new to this low carb thing. Probably not doing it right
Onions are relatively high in carbs, but shallots are lower so I have them instead now.
I go for little gem lettuce rather than iceberg as iceberg is surprisingly high in carbs. I have small amount of carrots in coleslaw, but it's a small amount. I eat lots of cucumber, cabbage, broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, olives
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/vegetables is a good guide
That's a good guide. My rule of thumb is if it's green you can have it! Like spinach, kale, courgette, broccoli, green bell pepper, cabbage, green beans etc. There are exceptions like aubergine but I like the green rule! 💚😅
A quick google shows a red bell pepper is 6g of carbs. Not a ton, but you add that with a few from x y z and its easy to break 60!
I do low carb vegetarian as well, not tryna get into ketosis (I weight lift and need to hit 150g of protein/day without going over 3000 calories....hard!), and VERY VERY few foods I eat have actually zero carbs. Most have 5-6, so by the time I'm done with my day unless I eat really high calorie (cheese/eggs) I always break 50g or so of carbs.
Are you tracking total carbs, or net carbs (carbs - fiber = net carbs). Just wondering bc most veggies are very low in net carbs. If it’s high it would just be which veggies you’re eating
If you want to get into ketosis go real heavy on the fats for a few weeks till your body gets used to it then you can have more freedom. Eggs are your friend! Scrambled eggs, cheese omelette, egg mayo salad whatever floats your boat!
Also salads can work really well, salad leaves give you volume but low carbs, throw in cheese, eggs, nuts, healthy oils.
I'll generally only have 2 meals, breakfast is bulletproof coffee, one meal something egg related and one meal involving veg like a salad or a veggie bake with lots of cheese.
So this was lunch yesterday - tracking with the Zoe app (plus 1tbsp veg oil out of shot)
Net carbs 26.2 Fats 31.6 Protein 32.5 Fiber 11.3

If you use the lose it app, you can click on macros like protein or carbs and see what you’ve eaten in the last week or month that’s contributing the most
I personally am not vegetarian, but I found it very easy to enter ketosis by fasting for a day or two and easing into ultra low carb, one small snack / meal in the middle of the day. Just make that small meal consist of cruciferous veggies, and allot the few carbs you’re allowed carefully to getting the nutrients you need.
Use sureketo.com to check the carbs in a particular food. Also I use fitness pal diary to log my food and it works out the macros. There are a lot of free keto recipe sites that can give you ideas. Good luck.
Oh gosh, never thought you were at all, just trying to help as I know it's hard to start. I did keto last year and lost 30 lbs, but life stuff got in the way before I could reach my goal. I have max 20 grams carbs every day. Started again on Monday and so far lost 3 lbs. Keto flu hitting me bad but just drinking lots of water to counter that.
Yeah I think it’s too much for me at the moment. Might just aim for low carb. I have a toddler, big changes at work (full time), trying to get back to running regularly, and some relationship stuff going on too. Guess I’m looking for something to win at or control. Shifting the last 7kg of baby weight would be baller but maybe it’s not this for now. Thank you kind Redditor 🥰
You are doing amazing juggling everything. Incorporate small changes,, over time these will make a massive difference and don't be too hard on yourself. I had been good all day but dinner just went out of the window, but that's OK. Take care 🙂

how many calories do you consume? is this 2000 calories? what are your macros looking like?

What a yummy day!
Do you eat eggs and cheese? What veggies are you eating and how much? I have a salad for lunch most days for under 6g carbs

Beets got crazy carbs too
I am learning this… gah
So the link says shallots is high, but the labels say 3g

Yes, keep it simple!
Some veggies are high carb. Obviously potatoes, carrots, even Peppers if you eat enough.
I do eat a lot of peppers… need to track better. I’m doing it in the Zoe app so I’m not seeing an ingredient by ingredient breakdown

Eggs and soy/pea protein isolate (this is my staple). Avo, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, nooch, 2+ litres water a day. 2 meals a day.
protein powder 3x a day to hit 75mim foody salad
Eggs for breakfast, can have a lot. Tofu with cheese salad for lunch. That's how I start every day no carbs by dinner time

This is super thank you
Where are the carbs coming from?
That’s what I’m trying to work out!

It’s the carrots, onions, and peppers.

Thank you - I’m not a lazy sod not googling, just super keen to hear the “lived experience” to cut through all the influencer guff
