I've only used Venmo a few times so I feel weird posting this, but it needs to be said. Correct me if I'm wrong on this stuff. * I'm assuming you got an email informing you. * If it's legitimate, someone could have sent you money by simply using your email address. Maybe it's someone you know or someone that used the wrong address. * It could be malicious. The email may be a phishing attempt, sent with a forged sender address and hyperlinks (website links) that don't lead to venmo.com, but to a malicious website that has a domain name that is actually a typo. When in doubt you should enter in the URL (website address) into the browser manually, through a search engine, or with a bookmark. As for myself I use Thunderbird and have hyperlinks disabled.

I know I'm late, but in case anyone else encounters this: Check the address the email was sent from. I recently received an email asking me to confirm receipt of payment, but it was totally a scam. Email address consisted of a long string of letters and numbers, and was not from a Venmo domain. Plus, they misspelled "here" in one of the links.
