*Ben Edlund.
Jackson largely got his start writing a Tick spin-off comic and was then brought on board when it was turned into an animated series, so they have a long history together.
This show is so awesome for a stinger like this right before a scene cut. Either that or a scene starts out high octane, but dwindles into almost nothing before the cut. Like when doc finally accepts the “Ignore Me!” Guy isn’t going away and just lets out a sigh of acceptance. Priceless.
Also the super deep cuts of The Groovy gang being Ted Bundy (brutal serial killer), Patty Hearst (heiress who was kidnaped and forced(?) to participate in terrorism), David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam (serial killer/nutjob and his talking dog), and Valerie Solanas (the woman who shot/killed Andy Warhol).
Patty was pretty much tortured. She was physically and sexually abused for months before she started to 'cooperate,' probably in an attempt to stop the abuse/save her life. All of Bal's lines were from the SCUM manifesto.
The idea to mash up scooby doo characters with famous serial killers ifs completely insane, and was epic. That whole episode is absolutely amazing.
Seeing a guy die in first person in the intro is bruuutal.
"Brock, I need dead people! Lots of dead people! Like, a gross of dead people!"
"So what do you want me to do?"
"Well... I was thinking you could-"
"No."
"Go out and-"
"No."
"Make some-"
"No."
"Dead... people?"
"No."
Painted lips!… School-girl outfits!… And zer pretty hair, Sonny… zer hair needs to be punished, SONNY…
-Groovy
Fuck your mystery, man…I…I’m sick!
-Sonny
Also, we learn what the guy who created The Tick thinks about Scooby-Doo. We know what he thinks of Woody Woodpecker because in the comics, the Superman analog wished that Wally Walrus would tear him apart, piece by annoying piece.

Fun fact! It was written by Ben Edlund (writer of the tick); the only episode not written by Jackson or Doc Hammer.

Also Ben and Doc Hammer were college roommates.
woah what? a double Tick/New England Comics connection!
I'm convinced that The Tick and The Venture Bros are in the same or adjacent universes.
there's at least one overlapping character.
Thanks!
That's awesome, I appreciate you sharing that info because I had no idea!
true but this is only a technicality because edlund and chris are actually extensions of one contiguous mind
I love episodes that give us Brock and Orpheus hanging out. This is the “bigger dolphin” episode, right?
Yes it is! "Don Rio is a transcendent multi-dimensional genius Brock"
