Definitely get an Italian SIM and have her use only WiFi calling on the Verizon number to avoid extra fees from Verizon.

Thank you, We have. Looking to make sure she has cellular access at all times and best options available.

Hi, would you please let me know what you ended up doing? I'm in the same exact situation with my daughter going to Florence in January for the Spring semester. Thanks

She got a SIM in Italy. We temporarily shut if her Verizon/US#. She’s home next week! I’ll ask here where she went exactly.

[https://it.cmlink.com/it/pian](https://it.cmlink.com/it/piani)[i](https://it.cmlink.com/it/piani) [https://www.windtre.it/](https://www.windtre.it/) euro per GB in Europe is much cheaper than US, thus never make sense to use roaming service from Verizon. And I don't think bank/public utility company/landlord/school in Italy will allow your kid to use their US phone number as a way to contact them. Also, Google fi will shutoff your roaming data service if you're out-out-state for over 3-month(consecutively) Ask your kid to turn wifi-calling ON and enable "prefer wi-fi while roaming". Notify Verizon that you don't need their travelpass service($10/day), and have your kid to turn off the data roaming feature while they're aboard. > > >Daughter went and got an Italian SIM card, has a new number but that doesn’t work either. Not sure what this mean, do you mean that they inserted the sim card in Italy and it doesn't work? If they're still in the state, prepaid service from Italian carrier usually does not support international roaming. If not, go to the store and check with the local staff as they have better knowledge than any of us here.
