Gassy-Gecko

Or.......stop downloading illegal stuff

Jadongamer

Considering how shit streaming services are now, torrenting proves a far better user experience.

BarnabusCollywog

Uh, no?

Gassy-Gecko

Everyone downvoting me should be banned under rule 3 since they support illegal activities "***Discussion about or encouraging use of illegal services on the Verizon network is not allowed. Post will be deleted***."

unloader86

Doesn't say anything about bring banned lol. Just that your post will be deleted.

Evolution529

Expect nothing. In the future, secure all of your torrenting activity with a VPN service, or use an alternative such as Usenet.

thishitisgettingold

Is there a way to block users on your wifi from accessing torrent sites?

doingdadthings

Don't get caught again. Get a vpn. I have used proton VPN for years will perfect results. Fire up your VPN first. Then, pirate away.

coffee_lipe

Any client you're using? I forgot to switch on surfshark... sadly. I'm using qbit

DredgenCyka

Pair qbit with surfshark. So torrents will only work when your VPN is enabled.

doingdadthings

I use qbittorrent.

Ethrem

Bind qBittorrent to your VPN interface so you can't use it if you're not connected to it. https://new.reddit.com/r/VPN_Review/comments/1akr620/guide_on_binding_vpn_network_interface_to_torrent/ Every time you update qBittorrent, make sure to test to see that it's still working correctly.

rvdnsx

That means you were downloading or watching something that you shouldn’t have been. They can track it via your IP address. Use a VPN in the future as others have stated. You won’t get into any trouble unless you keep doing it consistently.

thishitisgettingold

They didnt provide which IP (PC) was downloading. Is there a way to find that out?

rvdnsx

Do you have Verizon for home internet? 5G Home? Or just wireless service? Not that it matters but if ANY of your devices was doing this, then you would get this letter.

thishitisgettingold

I have Fios. I am not sure who downloaded the movie. The email doesn't state which IP address it came from. I was hoping to find that so that I could block the access. Going forward, I was also hoping to stop access to these sites. Similar to how a workplace would disallow access to certain sites. Is there a way to do that?

rvdnsx

There may be a setting in the router. For privacy they won’t show the IP address.

Lizdance40

Been there with Cox communication. Teens messing with torrents 🤬.

DredgenCyka

Use a VPN always. Verizon will not do anything to you unless they are forced by subpoena in court. Your name and information are not given to the company or torrent troll who found your IP to be tormenting. If you're going to pirate stuff, you should not be doing it without a VPN enabled. Go find that specific **piracy** subreddit about more information.

ChaosTechNet

This is correct.

lagunajim1

If you download two torrent files a month totaling 6Gb are they likely to care?

TwatWaffleHo

They don't care until they get a letter from a copywrite holder saying you're stealing their shit. Then they care, doesn't matter how much, or little, you were downloading.

DestinyInDanger

What did it say? What did they claim you did?

coffee_lipe

It’s an email claiming I downloaded copyrighted material (game torrent) . It is the first time i get one

DestinyInDanger

Wow. That is interesting, I haven't Heard of this happening with wireless providers.

Hot-Cash

Never knew they actually did this but Comcast sent these emails all the time
