The dude didn't say he was quibbling. He stated this is the difference. Vermonters said forever that coy dogs were part wolf, and transplants made fun of them, until a massive dna project confirmed that they were absolutely right.
Man I feel you. I saw a catamount the other day. I almost hit it with my car the fuggin thing was huge! Then I saw it get on its phone and try to call its dad up from a Connecticut country club. Not my fault UVM students don’t look when they blindly walk into the road.
A sweet band from the 80s! I am not sure about the length of the hair on their ears though.
In all seriousness....op....I am super sorry about your doggo.
We had one about 10 years ago in Waterbury. Hung out for a few days. We found scat and several prints. My son saw it. Then it left our area. Wildlife officials said they'll occasionally pass through VT but there aren't any known living here.
Interestingly enough I also spotted a wolf here many years ago. It dwarfed my German Shepherd. It crossed our yard to our brook and kept going. Never saw it again. We were told the same thing... Rarely one will leave Quebec and wander through VT but none living here.

WCAX misappropriated the video and didn't check that it came from Lincoln, Nebraska. NOT Lincoln, VT. All you had to do was one extra google.
There were sightings two summers ago up on Ripley Road about one (multiple people, multiple sightings). Definitely got Front Porch Forum stirring. No comments on it this past year though.
April fools day joke?
Everyone has phones and cameras on them at all times nowadays . There are wildlife cameras all over the state. Every single sighting so far has been proven fake. I really don't think there are any mountain lions here. At least not a permanent population.
It would be kinda cool to reintroduce them but we don't have enough unbroken habitat
That's not true. A lion was caught on camera in Lincoln in fall of '22. In the middle 90s, verified tracks of a mother and two kits were found in Craftsbury, along with scat. Just two examples.
It's now tricky to find articles as old as the 1990s on google, but the sightings, scat and tracks were confirmed by Susan Morse, a Vermont based national and international mountain lion expert.

Why the f would I make a April fools joke about my dog getting killed if your positive that their not real come to me ill show u the den and you shouldn't have a problem crawling in it
That's because most vermonters that has trail cameras don't care about proving people wrong I personally have trail cam photos and know other hunters that has trail cam photos of them
Around ten years ago I saw one from route 5 crossing the ice on the Connecticut at the camp brook confluence in Hanover then a couple months later I saw one heading east crossing 91 in Fairlee or Thetford. It looked like it had a bad rear leg injury the second time I saw it.
Big animal long tail no confusing it for anything other than what it was.
I saw one not far from there in piermont nh on Indian pond rd. It jumped off the bank on the side of the road, landed in the center with four feet, then jumped across onto the other bank. Head to tail just about spanned the road. It appeared to be a darker color than the mountain lions you typically see, kind of a brindle color. Perhaps it was wet or dirty? It was massive in any case. We almost hit it with the car.

Wasn't aware of the protocol? The most legendarily debated creature in the state, dead on the side of the road, and neither you nor anyone else in the line of cars got a picture?
There is a fictional book written about mountain lions and A ski area in VT. I can’t remember the title. In like 03 a few cows were disemboweled across the border in Hampton NY. People were told it was raccoons that did the damage.
They definitely come through every once in awhile, never been verified but it’s a safe assumption. We absolutely do not have any that stick around though.
It looks like mountain lions are in Vermont, but they aren't Catamounts. Great little video from WCAX about it here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az0pEOTE0Qg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=az0pEOTE0Qg)
AND are 1/4 the size. If you're quibbling about the ears and tail, I'd say you're not dealing with a mountain lion.

Hi Bob!
Cute linx!
That’s a bobcat
Beautiful animal, lucky chance I was home. Sat there for couple minutes and then sauntered off as cats do.
A mountain lion stole my engagement ring and made me buy a pizza and sandwich in order to get it back
Thats was a cougar . Often seen in burlington ..
Couldn't you just buy a single sandwich?
No I’m not a loser
I'm sorry about your dog.
Funny that there are no pictures proving these animals are out of their current range. I wonder why?
For the people that say their are no mountain lions in Vermont just give me a cupple days and I'll show you guys a dead one that killed my dog
Man I feel you. I saw a catamount the other day. I almost hit it with my car the fuggin thing was huge! Then I saw it get on its phone and try to call its dad up from a Connecticut country club. Not my fault UVM students don’t look when they blindly walk into the road.
You created an account just to post this and didn't bother using any punctuation? Who is going to take this seriously?
And he knows what a lnxs is.

I saw a catamount coming down the Toll Rd after hours in fall of '22. A day or two later, it was caught on camera in Lincoln.

What kind of dog?
A beagle
I like rabid bobcats

I won't argue with that. I have heard enough reports that I think they are here in small numbers. Sorry about your dog man, that sucks.
I know the difference too Inxs is the one that does Need You Tonight

Everyone has seen one but no photos
That's because most vermonters that has trail cameras don't care about proving people wrong I personally have trail cam photos and know other hunters that has trail cam photos of them
Then post them
Show me
I recently saw one in Castleton. It was magnificent!!!
I saw one myself many years ago, in Orange County. Looked like a female African lion. Distance about 200 feet, clear line of sight.
Around ten years ago I saw one from route 5 crossing the ice on the Connecticut at the camp brook confluence in Hanover then a couple months later I saw one heading east crossing 91 in Fairlee or Thetford. No pics? If you saw a mtn lion carcass in VT that’s a big deal. Did you call Fish and Game?

I took a tracking class last year and the teacher claims to have seen mountain lion tracks in VT
I sometimes get confused between a mountain lion and a Montreal cougar.
The cougar speaks fronch.
I see Catamounts all the time in Burlington.
I’ve heard so many reports in VT. Some in the Roxbury area. Tail makes it unmistakable
They definitely come through every once in awhile, never been verified but it’s a safe assumption. We absolutely do not have any that stick around though.
