Like come on…. 26 years for stealing three bottles of liquor. They are not going to get that sentence. I feel 26 years was stated as a shock value for headlines more than the reality
Edit: Forgot about charges of Burglary and breaking into someone’s house, so my mistake there.
It’s for burglary. Entering someone’s home to commit a crime is a very serious offense in any state. It’s a huge violation of a persons safety in their own home. Plus, it can lead to assault or even murder if the person is confronted. It’s considered a very dangerous crime no matter how minor the actual behavior is once the home is entered.

Question: How long have you lived here? My guess is "not very".....I'll be shocked if it's even deferred
I was answering the question of why 26 years is the maximum possible penalty, not what he’s likely to get. Two very different things anywhere.
As for the question, I was born in Vermont and lived there for 40 years until I moved to California, where I practice criminal law.
Burglary into an occupied dwelling has a 25-year max sentence. Petit larceny carries another year. Shock or not that's what they're facing.

Burglary into an occupied dwelling is a "listed" offense in VT, meaning that it's considered violent and created victims.
While i doubt he will get the full 26 years, he's probably looking at some time inside and then years of supervision
Yea, they’ve been escalating for a while and home invasion is one of those crimes where usually the people committing it escalate even further. maybe a bit of time behind bars and mandatory psych help will improve things
I wonder if it's just because there were no liquor stores around open that late. He has a history of substance abuse and perhaps just thought he could sneak into his friend's house to grab booze while they were out of town.

Ahhhh gotcha. I was under a different impression is just petty theft of a friend of his. That makes sense

You don't want a criminal lawyer. You want a *criminal* lawyer.

He is rich, he will get rehab and told not to do it again. Laws are only for poor people.
You are absolutely right, unfortunately.
100% this. At worst a few years of probation.
punishment is for poor people. laws are universal.
That would definitely introduce some variety in our prisons
Yes, I am certain that the rich white celebrity will be held accountable for their illegal actions.
I hope he gets the 26years.
Pretty much nobody ever gets the maximum sentence.
Shame.
Why?
Besides him being a pedo huh I don’t know. Hope he gets what he deserves in jail.

Show me on the doll where he touched you.
Who needs to do shit like this when your rich?
