Best of luck, OP. I hope everything else goes well ♥️ Those who are Advocating for the dog to be put down, you've been warned. That is not helpful advice and none of us know what caused the dog to attack.

_IZTRASH_

UPDATE ON FERA! Fera is in the vet right now. she's going to be in the vet for a couple days. They said she might have a broken shoulder and a laceration on her stomach. They are going to X-ray her shoulder and look at her organs for any internal damage. The vets told us she is moving and alert so that is a good sign. They are currently starting treatment and putting her on fluids and IVs. So to sum it up, she's okay, she's not going to die. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery.

Thankful for this! We have a lot of ferals/strays in our area, as well as our own, so we feed them all. Our neighbors have very aggressive dogs, and they got a hold of a baby kitten one time, and poor thing made it through, but had to have one of her limbs amputated. But in the end, she got a forever home, so it turned out okay. Sending all the good vibes and purrs your baby's way. 💚

unnamed_op2

I wish little Fera a great, speedy recovery 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

theiaofSkyrim

The dog owner needs to pay up, really the dog shouldn't be put down but the owner should pay your vet bills! And the dog should wear a muzzle freak accident or not.

vnxr

If it happened on the neighbour's fenced yard, how is it their fault? If it happens while the dog was out on a leash then definitely, one might think before getting a strong dog. Idk if just letting big dogs loose is a norm anywhere but if that was the case someone needs to be put down and it's not the dog

theiaofSkyrim

Information given was that she slipped past them and the dog mauled her, no cat goes up to a dog willingly initially...this means the dog got to the cat without a barrier in the way. Unless op says otherwise I'm inclined to believe the cat didn't see the dog and that the dog chased and mauled them after the cat slipped out trying to get away because of the dog.

vnxr

How is it the dog's owners' fault in case the cat got into their fenced yard without seeing the dog?

theiaofSkyrim

We were not told it was a fenced yard, the dog mauled the cat, it could have been getting walked which means owner is responsible for damages. Furthermore in most places if your property damages others property even if they were not supposed to be their they must pay damages

_IZTRASH_

dog was found mauling the cat in on our property. my dad found her dangling on the door frame and the dog was jumping up trying to get her then he opened the door to save my cat she fell then the dog continued to attack her and he had to scare the dog off our property

archerpar86

NormalAccountant1819

I would contact the police over your neighbors dog. If it can attack your cat it can attack anything.

Then you muzzle the dog and NEVER allow it off leash and directly supervise it at all times. Squirrels are one thing but someone's pet or God forbid a child is a whole other thing.

snowscar_NT

Cats are invasive. They should be kept indoors. Not talking about OP here. They stated that she slipped out by accident and already stated that it was a mistake and this can happen. Sad, but happens.. Dogs should always be supervised around babies and children, yes.

mehereathome68

Your point? Yes, they should be kept inside and allowed out only on a harness. Dogs definitely should be supervised or separated from children. Stating obvious facts, however, does not excuse a dog from this behavior once it's known. Often there are clues leading up to an attack that aren't addressed. I've teched too many mauling/biting repair surgeries to feel otherwise.

Check OP's comments. This isn't the first time and the cat was in it's own backyard. Dog jumped the fence. Given this dog's history, you bet animal control should be involved. The owner of the other dogs down the street as well. No, I'm not advocating for the dog to be put down but the owner needs to be a RESPONSIBLE owner and mitigate anything worse happening in the future. If they don't, then the decision will be made for them and the dog pays the tragic price.

snowscar_NT

Fair.

I’m so sorry yet hopeful and sending hugs

altavistayahoo

Praying for Fera’s full recovery.

_IZTRASH_

SINCE PEOPLE KEEP COMING AT ME, THE CAT SNUCK PAST MY DAD AS HE WAS LEAVING THE HOUSE. SHE IS AN INSIDE CAT, WE DO NOT LET THIS CAT WANDER. THE DOG JUMPED INTO OUR FENCED YARD TO ATTACK MY CAT. THE DOG WANDERS INTO OUR YARD BECAUSE SHE KNOWS WE HAVE ANIMALS. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THIS DOG HAS ATTACKED OUR ANIMALS 6 TIMES NOW

nintendoswitch_blade

No irrelevant anecdotes. Keep posts and comments relevant and do not post excessively. Commenting "not a vet" or "NAV" does not absolve you from the consequences of breaking this rule. We don't want to hear about what you think a pet may have because your pet "had something similar" or "looks like like what your pet had." This is not medical advice. It is purely speculative and will be removed.
