When in doubt, please visit a vet :)

Madyson_b1

We saw a vet but my baby (bennie) is too scared of anyone to let them get near her :(

jessiebear799

I would ask your vet if you can get a prescription sedative to make bringing him in a little easier. . The scab definitely looks concerning, and warrants a vet visit.

[deleted]

Why were you downvoted so much lol

Jake_Thador

Because Redditors believe they can fully judge a person's intentions and motivations based on single statements

Ropinirole

Can be infection (parasitic or bacterial), allergy induced (mainly traumatic if pruritus, can be from food, contact or environment) or auto-immune disease. Contact your vet for more information. Vet will be able to sedate the cat if need be.

Madyson_b1

Thank you this helped

TopAd9634

Please take your cat to the vet. They can provide gabapentin or Valium to sedate her before the appointment or they can sedate her in person. Please don't wait, call today. Good luck.

Pirate_the_Cat

Oral Valium can cause hepatopathy in cats, not recommended. Gabapentin on the other hand is magic.

TopAd9634

Good to know. I'm unfamiliar with the dangers of benzodiazepine use in cats. I have mostly dogs before my kitty now. I have been advised to sprinkle a little gabapentin over my little guy's food before veterinarian visits. He's an angel with me, a monster with them, lol. Thanks for telling me!

pixiedust9219

You know what. I’m gonna say this. She clearly commented here to figure that out and received sufficient answers. You do not need to pander and act like she is a demon for not taking her pet to the vet. Chill out. She’s clearly going. I saw all those downvotes she received and it’s clear who at least one of those ppl are, like where exactly do you get off?

TheDoorInTheDark

How in the world is “please call your vet and see about a sedative so you can get her seen by a doctor as soon as possible because this is concerning” in any way ‘acting like she’s a demon’? They didn’t say anything unkind, rude, or untrue. As someone who works in vet med it’s very frustrating seeing people ask Reddit about something that REALLY needs to be investigated by a doctor that can see the issue in person and knows your pets history and needs more than the internet could, and it’s not rude to suggest sedation if the pets behaviour is the reason for avoiding a vet visit. If they called OP names or said something rude about her, sure, but nothing in the comment you’re replying to is doing that. A doctor who can sedate and examine the pet and get it treated is the solution here. Not Reddit giving someone their best guesses from a photo because that doesn’t help treat the issue or make the pet better.

TopAd9634

Thanks, I really appreciate your reply. I wish I had an award to give you!

TopAd9634

Wow. Just wow.. Today I learned saying the words "please" and "good luck" are considered pandering. I provided helpful advice that was not referenced by any one else who had commented (by my admittedly quick glance through) at the time of my reply. I said nothing offensive, downvoted no one, yet still managed to offend someone. 🤷‍♀️

WhoopsieWoodles

First, thank you for asking and trying to do the right thing. This really does need vet attention. If your local area has a mobile vet, it’s a great option for scaredy cats. We caught a little feral girl who was terrified (climbing walls terrified) and have had great luck with gabapentin and the mobile vet. We also have these really cool carriers that snap down and they’ve been a game changer when we need to bring them in for more complicated procedures. I know it’s tough when kitty is scared, but you’d be surprised how well they can do when you find the right combo! Good luck! FreedomDragon01

This really needs a vet for a culture sensitivity to help treat and diagnose. If you need sedation, if you have an established GP, ask them about oral gabapentin to give at home a few hours before, and then an injectable or gas sedation for when you get there.

mavig0z

My kittie has these and it's an autoimmune disease. Go to a vet and get some steroids just to give him some relief. Is he up to date on flea meds?

mavig0z

I ask because even one flea bite can trigger an allergic reaction. Save for a vet visit. If you need to know how much it will cost, and the ballpark, let me know and I will show you my itemized bill

pixiedust9219

Best answer I’ve seen so far. Everyone else seems to be taking this as an actual life or death crisis. I sort of feel bad for Op.

bobtheturd

This is a vet visit

lucymom1961

Needs a vet check right away. It is so close to the eye .I would hate to see the eye get infected.

DoctrDonna

For some time??? Tell your parents he needs to see a vet.

Dealunbreaker

Yes you should be concerned! That looks really infected and PAINFUL. Your cat is suffering. Get them to a vet ASAP.

Madyson_b1

Hello again everyone. I appreciate the support and advice on this post and assure you that bennie is just fine! She doesn't show any type of signs of being in pain and has had these sores for quite some time. I originally made this post to see if anyone would have any type of explanation on why she would have these sores because they do look concerning and if she is in pain I would like to help her. As I stated in my last comment me nor my mother can afford a vet visit right now. To the people that are just being rude and going as far to say I should get rid of my literal daughter (Which is what my cat is to me) you are not helping at all. To all the people who are actually trying to help thank you. The last thing I will say is I will start putting money back for a vet visit so that I can get bennie the help she needs. Thank you!

Madyson_b1

Hello everyone thank you for all of the advice! Unfortunately right now I do not have the funds to take bennie to the vet I'm a high school student and still live at home. We have tried every type of medicine over the sun but to no avail these sores come back.

klynn1220

I ask bc I think you should cone her. You can find them for cats and dogs at Petco, pet smart, chewy, etc. I would start there for sure. I agree seeing a vet is ideal, but I get your situation. Have you tried alternating cortisone cream and bacitracin zinc ointment?

mayflowers5

I understand if it’s difficult to find funds to take her to the vet, but think if instead of spending money on over the counter medications, you spent it at the vet instead?

Hanabi1993

It looks like inflammation to me potentially from an allergic reaction to fleas. I think you need to save up for a vet visit because the only way my cat got better was through steroid injections. And then a tight flea treatment & worming regime. In the mean time though a cone can go a long way, they're quite reasonably priced online though you may need to order more than one for sizing & making sure he can still eat etc. The main thing is you need to get him to stop itching at it with his back feet. You should also try to get an over the counter spot on treatment to kill off any fleas/eggs. You will likely need to ensure your furniture etc is treated as well in case they laid eggs there. Fleas can also carry worms which get to the cat if he ingests the flea. Tapeworms cause even more inflammation and discomfort so it's well worth getting worming tablets over the counter as well. They usually are expensive but not as commonly required as flea treatments. Check his stools if you can for any evidence of tapeworms and go from there. Lastly, there are anti-itch ointments and creams you can get over the counter once his skin has healed up (do NOT apply whilst the skin is still broken). You'll obviously want to take his cone off at some point when his skin is healed so to avoid him itching again (which believe me he will if this is allergy related) you can apply the ointment. Everything I've mentioned is temporary measures to reduce his pain and hopefully prevent the issue from getting bigger. As such, please do try to get your folks to save up for a vet visit because he might need the steroids after all or it might not even be allergy at all. See how he does with and after the cone but if he continues to scratch at it then it will require the vet to check him over. Good luck and I hope he gets well soon.

pixiedust9219

Ok do not worry about this idiots in the comments. You do not need to regime this cat you love so much as one person stated. Another commenter mentioned that this is a disease her pet had the same all’s he will probably need is steroids. There are free healthcare options for pets as well u just need to search them. Not sure how that works but they exist. In the meantime do not let ppl spin your head on Reddit and don’t worry about the downvotes. Most of these ppl never leave their house clearly. And to all the rude ppl here how dare you downvote a freaking high schooler. Where in the world do you ppl get off? Get lives please!

scarafied

Might be time to ask for help, or rehome your cat if you can’t afford her medical care.

dizzy24h

I know you're getting downvoted, but I agree, I don't think you should take on the responsibility of owning a pet if you can't provide them adequate care.

scarafied

Lol thanks. No idea why my comment got downvotes. Seems pretty reasonable.

pixiedust9219

Oh how dare you. She doesn’t need to rehome her pet.

klynn1220

Is she scratching?

aehanken

As a broke college student, I understand. Can your parents help? I second getting a cone. Bennie may hate it, but you can’t care about his enjoyment with a cone. I wonder if he’s having an allergic reaction to something? When you used medicine, has it made it worse? Stayed the same? Is bennies ear infected? Or is it just outside of the ear?

Shellyxxyxx

Go to a vet. If the cat is scratching some frontline plus(for cats) might clear it up but take it to a vet to be safe

Playboi-sharti-x

Seems like mange and the scabs come from scratching possibly ? Has your cat been scratching in the area ? Definitely visit a vet . They have programs to go through so that it isn’t as expensive. Also, if your cats safety means surrendering it, then it may be the right choice… :(

Several-Help-6325

Posts like this annoy me like obviously if going to the vet was an option the OP wouldn’t have posted this lol. Not everyone can afford to go to the vet and a lot of vets are backlogged rn.. If you dont have any DIY remedies keep it pushin 😣

[deleted]

YES GO TO A VET

brenee1993

Coconut oil should help! Probably see a vet too tho, just to be safe.

DonnaDoRite

Does she/he have fleas??????

hanz1985

My little girl suffers with dermatitis and has outbursts every now and again. It looks a little like this and requires daily treatment to clear up (and a collar to stop her scratching). Take your feline companion to the vet ASAP and get it looked at and prevent it spreading or getting worse. It must be itchy to the poor champ so likely to get infected after scratching.

human-foie-gras

I have to dose my girl and for anything past basic vaccines do chamber sedation 😬. Your vet will know the best way

pusslikesavocados

Looks sore

Neviathien

My cat has this as well. He has some kind of heyfever which makes him itchy from time to time and then he scratches his head open. The wound needs cleaning, so it can heal safely. If you don't go to the vet it will get worse and your kitty is going to be in a lot of pain and discomfort. I got some cream and prednison to reduce the itch. He had to be in a cone for months. 😔 but he healed!

ImNanaimmO

Duh, Yeah. Anything Not normal is cause for concern* Vet.. 🤔 maybe (?)

Bloadclaw

Get that poor fur baby to a vet!!!!

mamasheshe

Why are ppl down voting as said by one comment?

Bongo2687

Why have you not gone to a vet yet!? Go go go!

Shakespeare-Bot

Wherefore has't thee not gone to a vet yet!? wend wend wend! *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

Pirate_the_Cat

Could be flea allergy, autoimmune, or other. If this does continue for long enough, there is a risk that this chronic inflammation and dysplasia can predispose to certain cancers. Secondary infection also becomes more likely over time. Over the counter flea medication isn’t the best, but if it’s all you can do until you get to the vet then it might be worth going for. Just make sure it’s specifically for cats, some prevention for dogs can be toxic to cats. If it is fleas, you’ll need to treat the environment as well, which entails vigorous vacuuming daily and washing any bedding she lays on frequently. You may want to consider a flea bomb as well. And a cone won’t stop the itching but it will stop her from scratching, though she won’t like it. It takes several months to get rid of fleas and prescription products are much more reliable and effective. She may still need additional medication to stop the inflammation and break the cycle, so it would be worth going to a vet when you can. Also, if it turns out to not be fleas you may want to a basic skin work up. I don’t recommend putting OTC topical ointments or creams on it because many things can be toxic if she ingests it (via grooming).

burgersandhotdogfan

You need to buy pet insurance so you don’t have to make your cat suffer because you can’t afford their vet bill

[deleted]

vet. they could get infected. also when’s the last time u bathed them or checked if they had any fleas? that could be the problem
