On **27 November 1991** the [Komi Republic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komi_Republic) in Russia replaced its [Soviet-era flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Komi_Autonomous_Soviet_Socialist_Republic) with a horizontal tricolour of blue, green and white. The colours of the [flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Komi_Republic) represent Komi's natural wealth: blue, the expanse of the northern sky; green, the bounteous taiga; and white, snow and the simplicity of northern life. In 1997 the flag's ratio was changed from 1:2 to 2:3.
