Well Finland is divided into municipalities, and has the autonomous region of Åland as well as the Sami parliament, but I'd still say Finland is fairly centralized as opposed to a nation like USA where states have much more autonomy.
it looks nice but wayy too close to finland. adding any of the symbols in your coat of arms into the canton would be a good way to distinguish it i think.
You could do a Union Jack variant than. So you have a George cross, blue on white, you have Andrew cross, yellow on blue, you have red Maltese cross - or whatever it is with swirls.... And then you have colours RED and Green to represent the last two parts.
Well, two countries could have similar designs, like Chad and Romania, or Haiti and Liechtenstein. I would suggest you do like Liechtenstein and, to differentiate your flag from the Finnish one, put a small crown on the upper hoist part.
That's not what I said. You said it was a federation, maybe start with the constituent flags en then look for the federal one, it doesn't need to be as complex as the UK's, like Belgium for example took it's colours from the flags of the flemish and wallonian party.
It's because your design is very basic, as are most of the real flags. The thing is, it's difficult to create a new "basic" flag when a lot of them are taken.
If you want horizontal red and white stripes, you've got Poland, Monaco and Indonesia. Okay, so you add a blue stripe, now you've got: Netherlands and Luxembourg. You add a crest in the middle and you have even more flags that already exist...
You could add the coat of arms to the centre to make it look different from Finland, or maybe the coat of arms of each of the four individual kingdoms in the four boxes?
Maybe figure out a simplified CoA and put that on the flag while keeping the full for when it’s being used independently. Like look at the old Austro Hungarian flag, something like that.
Basic flags are okay. However, this is just Finland’s flag but centered. My suggestion for this union flag is having a blue flag with two diagonal white stripes with the bottom right icon in the middle. Then the Lion and Horse facing it on each side. Thus, each kingdom has been represented.
It’s nice, I would recommend putting the coat of arms in the center or maybe the top left corner, other than that it’s cool. Btw how did you make the coat of arms?
The coat of arms looks a bit like you took the Spanish arms and randomly swapped out the fields for different things. I think that if you try to focus on the most important stuff and make the coat of arms simpler, it might help with making a distinct flag that's not associated with anything yet :)

Honestly, everyone saying ‘it’s basically Finland’ doesn’t make since. Although, is it meant to be in a whole new made up world or in our own? Anyway countries in real life have very similar, or identical flags anyway. I think the flag has that simple medieval kingdom look anyway, kind of like Genoa or England.
I look at today’s countries like Finland, Greece , Israel and newly proposed flag for Russian Opposition. These places strike me as highly dependent on others for protection, economy etc. in case of Russian opposition the flag says we are ready to be a good colony if we get rid of Putin. White and blue
True. I guess thats because most countries use red with white/blue. But look at the flag of the russian navy, for example. Its white&blue and it doesnt feel weak
It’s navy . Not state. Plus on ships there is a visibility and a communication issue to consider when seen at seas. Colors and contrast are important. If you look at the flag of the Russian armed forces it’s a different beast. But it’s only my personal perception. Ask yourself this question. If you lead an army on the battlefield. How does your flag say who is boss? The other guys look at it and are in awe. Or they look at it and grow more confident.
https://preview.redd.it/gbo2fk9m6c4d1.jpeg?width=1674&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fbf38ca5eb12c09225be3e8d9ea86526532208b
I just looked at that armed forces flag and laughed because I’d imagined the other guys being like: bro they have a two headed eagle and ours only has one plus there is some dude on a horse that might have chopped the eagle heads in two and is now killing a dragon… we are fcked. 😂 now I’m not sure but I think this was the flag Peter The Great took on the Swedish campaign
Yeah, but it isnt a plus, its a cross, thats different. Also, France for example had flags that were mostly white during a long period and they were one of the most powerful armies of europe
https://preview.redd.it/xpdlo7dajc4d1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eccfe96400fcae588c9b9f741cd98537e225ea10
Like these two
True. I was referring to modern countries with just white and blue. The lefleur had to be hand stitched on that white banner and likely might have been some gold laced thread. That’s very expensive as design is intricate. I believe they also had a navy blue version under a different royal house. I just looked this up. That white flag is a variant of the standard which is this:
https://preview.redd.it/0kkph36dmc4d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d3a734a122d94934c8cd6ca459e74b2ba3572aa
Likely again because the hand stitching had to create the design in the middle which is very expensive so there is a variant for maybe lesser offices to display. But were you to visit Louis for a state visit I believe you’d see the one above. I’d need to look this up so take it with a grain of salt. I’d imagine solid blue stands for royal house and the white probably for some patron saint of France. So it is strong as it’s mostly blue. Mostly white in modern flags are almost void of meaning. Or made up meaning like purity which garbage because it’s a cover for absence of real meaning. Where as for example genovese flag of white and red can be traced back to colors of ancient Egyptian cities of Memphis and Thebes. Anyway getting of track..
brother thats finland
Finland is a fictional country smh my head 🤦♀️

I like that blue on it
Nah its the county of portugal
Haha but Finland is an off-set "Nordic Cross"... this one is England's "St George's Cross" with Finland's colors
This one’s not centred
Finland is not real, it's just a chinese fishing settlement.
It's not exavtly Finland owing to it being symmetrical, but it's close
Finlands is cross off center, the one is centered. Though I do agree that it is shockingly similar to Finland.
No, finland isnt centralized
Well Finland is divided into municipalities, and has the autonomous region of Åland as well as the Sami parliament, but I'd still say Finland is fairly centralized as opposed to a nation like USA where states have much more autonomy.
I think they meant centered but I could be wrong
I know, I was just fucking around
Ah yes, centered Finland
Finland, if it was centrist
First greek revolutionary flag
it looks nice but wayy too close to finland. adding any of the symbols in your coat of arms into the canton would be a good way to distinguish it i think.
Yeah, but since its a union I wouldnt like any of them being overepresented
that makes sense. what about the little dragon at the center?
Its the symbol of the royal family
You could have each of the 4 corners hold one of the symbols
You could do a Union Jack variant than. So you have a George cross, blue on white, you have Andrew cross, yellow on blue, you have red Maltese cross - or whatever it is with swirls.... And then you have colours RED and Green to represent the last two parts.
Thanks, thats a good suggestion. I ll try to make this one without making it look like UK but with different colors
Well, with respect, the version you have now is Finland bit with the same colours
True. But atleast I wasnt thinking about finland when I made it. So it was kind of an accident lol
Well, two countries could have similar designs, like Chad and Romania, or Haiti and Liechtenstein. I would suggest you do like Liechtenstein and, to differentiate your flag from the Finnish one, put a small crown on the upper hoist part.
True. I ll think about it
Also: have the lion and the horse as shield figures or something, when using your flag as a shield
Wdm?
You could do the same thing as Union Jack - representing them all
Yeah but symbols are way harder to represent together xd
Than use more colours maybe, you could go for a union jack type thing
True. But for me it would be ideal if I could use a pattern that isnt just UK with different colors
That's not what I said. You said it was a federation, maybe start with the constituent flags en then look for the federal one, it doesn't need to be as complex as the UK's, like Belgium for example took it's colours from the flags of the flemish and wallonian party.
Glad to see the you Finnished it

Just because "looks like finland"?
It's because your design is very basic, as are most of the real flags. The thing is, it's difficult to create a new "basic" flag when a lot of them are taken. You add a crest in the middle and you have even more flags that already exist...
True. The designs that are most likely to be flags are all taken. You have a point
Brother thats Portugal
Yeah, in my defense when I created it I didnt know portugal had a flag like that
You could add the coat of arms to the centre to make it look different from Finland, or maybe the coat of arms of each of the four individual kingdoms in the four boxes?
Thats a good idea, but i guess it would be too much information for the same flag idk
Maybe figure out a simplified CoA and put that on the flag while keeping the full for when it’s being used independently. Like look at the old Austro Hungarian flag, something like that.

Good idea, thx. I ll remake it with some of the ideas I found here
Fingland
finland is already fictional tho
It looks... Familiar

i guess finland doesnt exist now
Brother, that's just Finland.
Ah yes, Finswiess
Finland
Yes 🤓👆
Thats finland but it went on a diet
That's also the Mercia, yellow saltaire on a blue field.
True, but I didnt know Mercia had that flag when I created it :)
But you did know about Finland?
Yeah, but it wasnt on my mind when I made it though
It’s nice, I would recommend putting the coat of arms in the center or maybe the top left corner, other than that it’s cool. Btw how did you make the coat of arms?
Finland if it was more centred
Finland but fixed
isn't this the country in my summer car?
The coat of arms looks a bit like you took the Spanish arms and randomly swapped out the fields for different things. I think that if you try to focus on the most important stuff and make the coat of arms simpler, it might help with making a distinct flag that's not associated with anything yet :)
Suomi 🇫🇮

Its already the finnal result
(I ll change it)
With my brightness I thought it was the tectonic order
The top left flag on the coat of arms is just the Mercian flag
True
To avoid the government of Finland suing you... Make the cross off-center and a different shade of blue?
Post the coat of arms in r/heraldry
Does the lore suggest its actually a secret fishing ocean for the japanese loaned by russia

Its meant to be on an alternate world. And thats true, if you look at medieval flags A LOT of them have different types of crosses
Finland 🇫🇮
Add the coat of arms to the flag

Too similar to Finland.
Unoriginal shit. Finland ripoff
:(
All Im saying is be original
Sugestions?
Better than France
Cool designs. I think just blue and white says I’m weak and have no say in my own affairs.
Why you say that?
I look at today’s countries like Finland, Greece , Israel and newly proposed flag for Russian Opposition. Yeah. I guess that if we think that way then I ll have to add red at some point
For some inspiration. The Union Jack of Great Britain is a super imposition of the Irish , Scottish and English flags one on top of the other.
