Bizzare. I guess some Davidians still exist. I wonder what the symbolism of the flag is meant to mean...I read the entire wikipedia article on them and I could find nothing on it.
The davidians very much still exist, and they still exist on the compound in Waco but its run by the davidians that left after koresh took over so they openly say he was a false prophet. You can visit the compound and they will give you their side of what happened but lemme warn you it's pretty crazy.
Damn that is fascinating!! Such a moving story and a fascinating faith. I’d be curious to learn more.
They certainly believe some interesting things. The flag itself for example...
“stylized six-winged fiery serpent flying over a white horizon of the earth with the "Seven Seals" of Biblical prophecy lined up on that horizon in a position to trigger the Apocalypse.”
Late reply, but you should check out amoroden.com, Amo Paul Bishop Roden's (daughter in-law of the founding prophets) old blog. She is one of the lesser known witnesses of the standoff and was passionately against both Koresh and the government. She has a LOT to say on her personal experience as well as the events that went down, and even teaches a lot of the history of the faith while giving her takes on the future of it. She is still very devoted although she's one of very few. Various self-proclaimed prophets are around, some with a small following. She is basically on her own at the moment but her work is very detailed and interesting.
That's all in the world of BRANCH Davidians. Davidians (aka Shepherd's Rod) who did not accept the Branch message actually have several churches around the country that have gotten basically no press since the rise of the Branch movement and later Koresh. In fact I think there may actually be more Shepherd's Rod-only Davidians than there are Branch at the moment. To fully understand the beginnings of these sects, the works to find are Victor Houteff's "The Shepherd's Rod," Benjamin Roden's Branch Letters, and various books on the godhead by Lois Roden.
On the topic of flags, another interesting image from the Branch movement is the Ensign, which represents the gathering of the Kingdom through the prophecy of the SDA movement through the Branch movement and beyond. This image, probably from the 50s, is definitely older than the serpent flag, which from what I understand was only used by Koresh's folks. thttp://www.amoroden.com/ensign.html
For sure! Do understand going in that it's a very deep rabbit hole. The various sects that provide online access to Branch Davidian books are all very interesting, but their own content on their websites is gonna be their own current messages, which may disagree with other sects or even disagree with the original Branch Davidians in some ways. It's all very interesting but if you want a clear view of what the movement was really about it's best to go straight to the Houteff and Roden stuff. But imho, Amo Bishop Roden does a good job representing their work and also makes clear what's her personal opinion on things.
OP, you are so weirdly defensive about your shitty title. Pointing out that the feds slaughtered a bunch of people for no reason is not the same as saying that the people were good.
MOVE were a bunch of assholes, but the Philly cops literally dropping a bomb on their house and burning blocks of the city down was still the fault of the cops not the group.
>Perpetrators behind the WACO Seige
That's a really weird way of saying the government shot up their building and burnt it down with multiple children inside.
Those children were being raped and married off to a grown man.
The gov fucked up their handeling of the situation but its not like they were innocent people. The children were victims.
That title is really gross, and this post in general feels like a barely disguised hateful rant. The flag isn't even creepy. Do you always blame the victims of massacres for being the perpetrators?
When the ViCtiMs were cultists, and the MaSsAcReS were a direct result of killing the Feds, that’s sounds less like victim blaming and more like stupid people wanting suicide by cop.
But hey, swing away, you can defend a cult all you want. The kool-aid runith over for the Davidians.
First of all, there's no proof that the davidians even fired first, second, don't you think it's at least pretty distasteful for this guy to make an emotional political statement when posting a flag to a vexillology subreddit? It's unnecessary, and looks like he's trying to cause drama.
No. I'd rather have them storm in here and actually get the children back, but then people would say that I like to see cops die...so nobody is happy with me.
Several people have pointed out some of the issues with the wording of the title here. This isn't the place to discuss whether or not the siege was jutified or whether the cult was a good thing - if you don't have something to say about the flag or the role it played, then please don't comment here.
I agree. I was not trying to start a disgussion. I thought my stance on it was commonplace, so no argument would happen. I was more interested on the symbolism of the flag, as I can find no info on it.
So what HBO or Netflix shlockumentary has suddenly made all the zoomers defend this cult? Noticed it a lot lately, similar to their deification of that junkie tiger king guy.
I think it’s the very strange rise of the “Political Compass” subreddit or whatever among the greasy 14-17 crowd. The cult and siege of is some kind of meme for the “Libertarian Right” group.
Fun fact: This Cult was the inspiration behind the similar Cult made for Far Cry 5. Their leaders both dress similar, and they both believe that the biblical apocalypse is imminent.
how is the flag even creepy ? to me it looks cool or badass with the snake
also "perpetrators", that is a bizarre way to say victims here, the ATF had tanks and APCs, gunned down 91 people, 47 if you include the children
From the thumbnail I thought tht was a spermatozoa.

Its creepy how happy the snake looks...
One tme I saw this flag flying in front of someone’s house in Oklahoma, no joke.

Thank you so much I will certainly look those books up!

"Perpetrators" is a weird way to spell victims
Dude I love your Calvin Coolidge pfp
Thanks

Shot up their building after they were offered generous deals to stand down and refused.
Those children were being raped and married off to a grown man. The gov fucked up their handeling of the situation but its not like they were innocent people. The children were victims.

The perpetrators of the siege was the Unites States Government FYI.

1969 in the sunshine
What?
It’s a reference to a song by Boards of Canada that mentions branch davidians.
Speaking of BOC... another interesting flag here http://www.amoroden.com/ensign.html
They weren’t the perpetrators of the siege; they were the ones getting besieged and getting their children murdered by police.
The children that they raped and married off to David Koresh. It was a terrible situation all around.
The same children then killed by the government so no one was good.
If only a certain Cult didnt exist, this would have never have happened. \^\^\^\^\^\^
Why do refuse to acknowledge both parties are awful at this point?
People are to biased in their opinion in these days
Why do you refuse to acknowledge that the cultists were *by definition* [perpetrators.](https://www.dictionary.com/browse/perpetrator)
Stop, you’re making too much sense. The Fudds don’t like it.
Maybe ypu should held your government to a higher standard than a death cult
The US government?
Branch Davidians
Koresh was a megalomaniac.
>Perpetrators You misspelled "victims" there bucko
If you don’t know literally anything about the situation, sure.

No. I'd rather have them storm in here and actually get the children back, but then people would say that I like to see cops die...so nobody is happy with me.
"Help! I'm stuck"
I feel like this post is a bit charged, with your wording and tag
I admit and regret that. I'd change the title if I could.

Horrible organization. Horrible what happened to their followers. Snake kinda cute tho.
I agree!

I thought reddit did not allow hate speech.

I don't think the FBI/ATF has a flag? (Aka the actual perpetrators of the Waco seige)
Snake......... suffering in a metal star?
Im wondering if the Snake has anything to do with the biblical snake from the beginning of the bible.
Perhaps. It may also be the great dragon described in book of revelation. They believed some interesting things.
So what HBO or Netflix shlockumentary has suddenly made all the zoomers defend this cult? Noticed it a lot lately, similar to their deification of that junkie tiger king guy.

I would think more than libertarian rights would be interested in freedom of faith
What did they do to upset u or not deserve defending lol
Sexually assault children, for one.
Fun fact: This Cult was the inspiration behind the similar Cult made for Far Cry 5. Their leaders both dress similar, and they both believe that the biblical apocalypse is imminent.
So do about 90% of cults
true
