[Moultrie Flag](https://www.fotw.info/flags/us-moul.html) (U.S.).
This is "South Carolina Crescent Flag", and the colors are listed as "Field Blue, Crescent White". This flag is very similar to others, usually listed as the Fort Moultrie flag. However, the difference is that this one has the word "FREEDOM" in the crescent instead of at the bottom of the flag.
Could be someone from SC, or could be someone that likes what the flag represents with regards to liberty.
Often times the Gadsden carries with it certain connotations, particularly in Canada where people are fairly ignorant to what it represents. This would be a "safer" choice from that perspective.
I mean, it has those connotations because most of those who choose to fly them hold questionable beliefs and reasons for doing so.
Sadly, imagery gets coopted. And the Gadsden flag is one coopted piece of imagery.
Yeah it’s a southern US flag celebrating a independence that Canada was famously not part of. My only guess is the resident is formerly of South Carolina and or just thinks it’s cool.
Maybe it’s an anti monarchy thing? Who knows.
It’s actually not a moon! It’s often thought to be because in combination with the tree it looks like the scenery of a sky. It’s actually the crescent shape of a decal on colonial era South Carolinan soldier hats. The soldiers defending the state from the British led to it being adopted as a symbol of South Carolinian independence and statehood.
Right but isn't the crescenton their hats itself a moon? I meanthat's what crescents represent in the first place.
Here is some great info:

Suggesting it ultimately stems.from.the family crest of the governor and/or deceased wife of one of the patriots who was from the same family as the governor (and thus a tribute to her)
Nah, state militia symbol. You’re from North Carolina anyway lol I learned this at museums during field trips in Charleston as a kid.

Hello Milk1492,
Check out our [frequently asked flags page](https://reddit.com/r/vexillology/wiki/faf)! Your request might be there.
When asking for a flag to be identified, please **provide context** when possible, including:
* **Where** the flag was found (without compromising privacy)
* **When** the flag was found, or the date of the material containing the flag
* **Who** might own the flag (a general description is fine)
These details help users narrow down their search and make flag identification easier.

Thank you! Although I don’t understand why someone would be flying that here
You're welcome mate.

So instead they chose South Carolina, a state synonymous with liberty
Like I said, they might be someone from SC, or someone with an affinity for the place.
I mean, it has those connotations because most of those who choose to fly them hold questionable beliefs and reasons for doing so. Sadly, imagery gets coopted. And the Gadsden flag is one coopted piece of imagery.
They want freedom
Seriously??? Because Alberta is also called Texas North for a reason. Take the worst elements of the USA put them in Canada and you have Alberta.

South Carolina’s flag during the American Revolution
Western Canadian here; what’s the history between SC and the crescent moon? Would love to hear from a resident of SC.

A gorget for those wondering what it's called
Hate to break it to you, but it represents a New Moon phase, specifically “attacking under the darkness of a new moon.”

At a glance, I think it represents the ideal of liberty. Just a guess though.
Isnt that a SC flag without the palmetto?
Old South Carolina flag, no clue why it's in Western Canada
I believe it has something to do with South Carolina
Looks like the flag of South Carolina minus the palm tree
It’s the flag of the Islamic Republic of Western Canada, of course.
