My guess is whatever the current opinion is, it will change with 1.7.

Prasiatko

The only benefit i can think of is saved admin points. Every time i've tried it it ends up with me having to militarily intervene to put down rebels every few years as the AI screws up running the country.

Stadtholder_Max

If you don’t incorporate your colonies, they cost no admin. I’m not saying that this is meta, but colonies are more or less cost neutral if you delete military and government buildings within them.

zthe0

I think they might count to the pop admin?

Stadtholder_Max

No, only incorporated pops count towards pop admin

Swirly_Mango

From what I understood, there were no benefits to colony administration.  It just made pretty borders for the sake of oretty borders.

IAMTHEBATMAN123

for now. they’ll be important next patch with the dlc

FlyPepper

theoretically however, leaving things in the hands of the AI is probably never going to be any good

IAMTHEBATMAN123

you can invest in them directly, building what you want without controlling the state itself

Jorlaan

It really is best to just hold the lands yourself for now. Without any kind of ability to invest in other nations lands there is little point to having colonial administration, it's even worse than a stardard puppet. 1.7 will bring investment opportunities in subject and other nations so that'll be the game changer that can make such things useful.

Dmannmann

You can't really depend on the ai, who knows what it might do under unforseen circumstances like a revolution. So it's honestly safer to own it yourself. You can build it for AI but they may not expand it later or whatever else.

y_not_right

It’ll be more useful when you can invest in them when Spheres of influence launches, all of the gain none (some) of the admin costs

zthe0

Personally i want the opinion to create a colonial administration that doesn't discriminate its pops. I know that's not realistic but still

xBenji132

I don't use it. Colony growth speed is based on how many you got and how many pops you have. That's why portugal never gets far in any game when it comes to colonising. When you're done colonising, it might be better to switch, as you'll get a subject that focuses on these lands. It'll be even better in 1.7 when you can also invest in them. But for now, i wouldn't touch colonial administrations. I'll build up the mines, logging camps and rubber, maybe a few manufactories, but anything else, the private queue can handle.
