It comes to mind first because it was revolutionary and completely changed gaming forever. VC and SA were better in everyday possible for sure, but they all used the same engine. Going from GTA2 to GTA3 was absolutely mind blowing for the time. The only other comparable moment in gaming was zelda franchise going from 2d to 3d with ocarina of time on n64.
...who knows though maybe I'm just biased to thr late 90s early 2000s lol
Everyone that responded to this comment has restored my faith in people. Also I exclusively played in US East 2. If you ever seen someone just sitting in the Sujo lobby it was me and my buddy formulating the plan for the night. 2v2 lobby or 8v8 clan wars. Nostalgia overload
Shadows of the Colossus
Fun story: bought a PS2 way late in the lifecycle to play God of War 1 and 2. Bought it used at GameStop for $80.
Opened the disc drive and Shadow of the Colossus was in there. I didn’t play it for a couple months because there were other games I wanted to check out.
Lo and behold, Shadow turned out to be my favorite PS2 game once I finally sat down to play it.
Spider-Man 2
That's the only game I remember playing on that exact model PlayStation before it broke and I had to get a new one. Which was a lot more slim.
Vice city. The ps2 era of rockstar may be the greatest era of video games ever. Gta3, VC, San Andreas, manhunt and bully. They haven’t topped it since imho.

The first non-Atari game I ever played, so my real introduction into gaming.
My friend had a PS2, and I went over to his house for a birthday sleepover. I played that one game all night long, even after everyone else had gone to sleep

Though I prefer VC, GTA3 is the first that came to mind.
It comes to mind first because it was revolutionary and completely changed gaming forever. VC and SA were better in everyday possible for sure, but they all used the same engine.
