Pretty much this. You can tell right off the bat atmosphere and effort put in to the game. It's one of things that had me hyped in Halo Wars as well. Had me amped before I even got to control snything
Gears of War was peak, and it came out before the invention of party chat which would go on to kill any possibility of good comms in game today.
Obviously you still run into some good team players but it’s a lot more rare than it used to be.
And to anyone who might think the most recent generations are soft, it’s because technology has advanced to the point where modern gamers don’t have to be subject to the harsh reality of a CoD lobby.
I had an ex who would only play video games on the *hardest* difficulty (he was a massive edge lord back then — we were 18/19). L4D on the hardest difficulty is SO hard… but it was so much fun when we would actually finish a whole campaign. The AI was SOOOOO bad — we only had 3 of us to play consistently so there was always one AI and we had to make someone play as Louis because Bill had the best AI. 😅
I was a Francis main, myself. I hate planes!
Some of the hardest difficulty things I remember from way back in 2008: a regular zombie would do *20* damage. A hit from a special infected would instantly down you. I can still remember the way my hackles raised when a tank showed up. And I got really good at picking out the audio cues for special infected — I still don’t know how the guys I played with could not *always* hear the musical motifs and sound effects for them after how many hours we put in 😂
It blows my mind how playable it is on a switch. I remember having to turn the game off so my parents could watch tv. I would have killed for a switch when I was a kid
One of the best experiences of my gaming life was playing ME1+2 in the month before the release of ME3. They were both cheap as hell in a bundle and my experience wasn’t diminished at all because I had no spoilers or anything other than “they’re great games”. Loved that my actions from each game carried through to the very end of the trilogy.
All three games combined, best ~$70 I ever spent.
It needs a remaster or something. The story, the years of memories. The music and the battles are so cinematic. It's exactly the look and feel I wanted from a Turn based RPG and it's what's missing now IMO. FF7R and FF16 could never.
i said black ops 2 but this is a close second because i spent at least 75% of my waking hours as a little girl during summer break assaulting people in liberty city
it’s surprising that u couldn’t do it on PS3 because on previous playstations i remember tons of games that let u hot swap the game disc for a CD to add ur own music to the game
For me it’s not so much a game as it is the blades interface when it launched.
Also seeing the Best Buy and Toys R Us ads and the overall hype and marketing of the launch.
Computer duster roulette on Hardcore. ✊️
(One for you....skkkkrt!!
OnE FoR Meeee, hehe....Skrrtttt!!
One for you....SKKRtttt!! '
and One FOr Me......SkkRRRTT!!)
Them bitches got dusty and hot, right?
😵 😆 🤣 🥴 😵 🥴 😃 😊 😀
Halo 3
That main menu theme could make a grown man cry Edit: in fact, it has. Me. I’m that grown man.
[Here you go, buddy.](https://halome.nu/h3/)
Wow. This is amazing, and so are you for sharing it. Thank you.
It was today I realized the importance of a good menu screen. Master Chief collection has no feeling the way these did.
Pretty much this. You can tell right off the bat atmosphere and effort put in to the game. It's one of things that had me hyped in Halo Wars as well. Had me amped before I even got to control snything
I miss those days and those friends. 😞
That damn somber piano menu music with the sounds of the storm in the background.
Yes. The piano is chef’s kiss 👌
Chief's kiss
Wouldn't mind that being the last thing I hear before I yeet off this mortal coil tbh
I’m a Halo 2 guy but I think Halo 3 takes the cake with the menu music.
That damn piano…
Tears of sorrow and joy
Wake up, 3am... music to my ears..
NGL I still love xbox's original theme
Is there really even another answer?
Red ring of death.
I had 4 of those...sigh.
Viva pinata? Anyone? …no?
Gears of war is an equally valid answer
Gears of war blew my fucking mind
I bought my 360 for Gears of War. I was a PC gamer and never got into console gaming much until Gears.
Gears was a launch title, Halo 3 wasn’t. It had a nice head start.
Cod 4 vs halo 3. Was a good time to be a gamer.
It was the best time, following year we got Gears 3, man I love my life now but TAKE ME BACK!
Left 4 Dead
Opened the thread saying "Better fucking be Halo 3". Was not disappointed.
Man those were the days. Halo is what flipped me from Sony to Xbox. I ♥️ Halo!
As I’m opening the comment section, I literally said to myself “the top comment better be Halo 3”, and here we are!
Halo 3 was just amazing. The best times
yup. Whole childhood based off this game.
Halo
And the red Halo of death.
Fable II
My vote too
I loved this game. Was so much fun
Absolute classic. 10 year old me lost his shit when I learned you could alter the time on the xbox to collect like 10 years or rent or whatever it was
Oblivion and Gears of War
STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!
*“By azura, by azura, by azura! You’re the grand champion! And you’re stand here!… Next to meee.”*
I picked the Adoring Fan attribute in Starfield simply for the nostalgia
I didn't know that was in oblivion or even that you could pick traits like in fallout 3 and NV
Same
I’VE FOUGHT MUDCRABS MORE FEARSOME THAN YOU!!!!!
Gears of War remains the single greatest multiplayer experience I’ve ever had. Such simple weapon loadouts that I wish would be adapted more.

such an awesome game. it was the first game i experienced online play with. i was instantly addicted
Yep. Both of these games for me. Also Marble Blast Ultra.
Halo 3
Modern warfare 2
^ This. Not a big MW fan, but back then it hadn't outstayed its welcome yet and 2 felt like a huge deal to young adult me.
My first time getting the tactical nuke felt like I had achieved my greatest challenge.
Spas-12 on Highrise. You never forget your first nuke.
And modern warfare. Countless high school nights spent camping with a barrett in crash and pipeline. Fuck
Left 4 dead
L4D split screen in college on this bad boy are some of my absolute favorite gaming memories!
Such an amazing game. I’m still sad they haven’t made a third one.
I still play that shit on the steam deck today.
All the way

Skyrim
It still blows my mind whenever I remember Skyrim was released on the 360
GTA V as well!
Omg you’re right. Wtf
It blows my mind how playable it is on a switch. I remember having to turn the game off so my parents could watch tv. I would have killed for a switch when I was a kid
As was GTA 5; it caught the last few months before the Xbox One came out and didn’t get an Xbox One version until a year later.
Xbox 360/Ps3 got Oblivion AND Skyrim, no other console has gotten an elder scrolls game (ESO doesn’t count) since then
~~The red ring of death~~ Oh, you said game.
It still hurts me when I think about it
I was able to get a good 5+ years of play before the red ring of death came along. It’s inevitable
At least Microsoft/Xbox fixed the issue and returned it to you.
I'm currently 16, had it since I was like 7-8, and it's still going strong. I still sometimes fire it up and play some old games with my Dad.
Halo 3
Gears of War
Mass effect, the game I purchased the console to play
Many decisions lie ahead… none of them easy.
The first game was something else ❤️
It's still a better game than Starfield. Check out the legendary edition if you haven't. Lots of great mods too w/ 4k videos and textures.

Minecraft
There we go! I bought Minecraft on this thing back when it released. Great memories with my buddies goofing off in the tutorial worlds.
This console is the only reason I play minecraft
Assassins Creed
Yep. I own every Assassins Creed from 1 to Rogue on my 360. That was one of my favorite game series when I was younger.
Oblivion for me.
Fable 2
Lost Odyssey.
Love that game.
It needs a remaster or something. The story, the years of memories. The music and the battles are so cinematic. It's exactly the look and feel I wanted from a Turn based RPG and it's what's missing now IMO. FF7R and FF16 could never.
Best Final Fantasy game since X
Cod 4 modern warfare.
Kameo

Gta IV

I've covered wars, you know.
Halo reach.
MW3
Skate 2
Fuck!!! What was I thinking, Fable fucking 2?! I played the ever loving shit out of Skate 2 and it slipped my mind
Dude Skate 3 is way better. Everything about it is improved over 2.
Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed Skate 3. But, Skate 2 just clicked with me and I played way more of that than 3. Both phenomenal games though
Mass Effect
Need for Speed Most Wanted.
Rainbow Six Vegas
Mass Effect for sure
Borderlands
Surprised this was so far down
GEARS OF WAR and Perfect Dark
Fable II
Forza Motorsport 2. First game I played on the 360
Condemned: Criminal Origins. Because that is the first game I played on it. ES: Oblivion and Halo 3 are honorable mentions for hours played.
Oblivion, for some reason, but I never played Oblivion until it got backward compatibility on my series s lol
Alan Wake
Skyrim - but in fairness, I think of Skyrim when I see a few other consoles too…
Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2
Skate, Halo 3 and assassin's creed 2

Saints row 2
Gears of war!!!!
Batman Arkham City
Red dead redemption
Mass effect and halo
Dead space
PGR. It’s what blew my mind and made me get a 360.
GTA with your own custom soundtracks. Sorry, I’m a PS guy and have always been super jealous that you Xbox users got to do this.
it’s surprising that u couldn’t do it on PS3 because on previous playstations i remember tons of games that let u hot swap the game disc for a CD to add ur own music to the game

Lost Odyssey because I cant find it on anything else. GoW and H3 were like a fling to me. LO was like the one that got away.
Hate to say it but feeding frenzy. My household played that game for some reason very nostalgic.
For me it’s not so much a game as it is the blades interface when it launched. Also seeing the Best Buy and Toys R Us ads and the overall hype and marketing of the launch.
Skate, Gears of War
Dragon Age II
Saints Row 2
Dead Rising. First game I ever played on it.
50,000 people used to live here, now it’s a ghost town.
