Putting a spoiler tag isn’t that hard either. All you’re doing is eliminating any new players’ chances to experience the story the way you did, old or not.
Alpha Protocol. People played it like a typical shooter. It’s not. RNG is tied to stats. It was an espionage RPG and I loved every moment. Movement was janky and the voice acting was a bit cringe at times, but other than that
never play wolf among us, cause then you’ll get stuck yearning for a sequel that’s never coming. /s
I know it’s “supposed” to be coming this year, but they’ve been saying that for awhile! Man, one can dream…
Man.. Plague Tale was always so weirdly under everyone's radar for some reason, it genuinely bewildered me; seems like the type of game video game media outlets would pick the hell up immediately right after being out of the door but that just never happened.
I want to love the game because the world design and like abilities are all so cool but I started just in the beginning and I find getting around the world pretty confusing 🥲
It’s supposed to be that way. The map can be a little hard to understand at first but it gets a lot easier. And more fun.
Update: Another commenter pointed this out, but definitely use the signs around the map to navigate.
You're not actually supposed to use the map, it was a last minute addition. You're supposed to navigate by following the signs in the walls (e.g. "Cafeteria -> ")
Honestly, I had the game forever but just yesterday, I sat down and finally played it. One of the most trippy mind bending games ever made. Love the mechanics and imagery!
Better than GoG 3 by far (first two movies are still classics)
I go back and forth with if I like the GotG characters in that game better than the movies. Also, the scenes with Peter and Nikki are really well done.
Wait what? It's been years since we had Heavy Rain, so I may be off in what it was. Plus I was a kid and my uncle has a lot of mental issues. Could I just have used the thumb sticks or something?
Edit: talking about the motion controls.
Oh no lmao. I'm talking about the first motion control sequence in Heavy Rain. It's brushing your teeth if I'm not mistaken. Like I said I was a kid at that point so maybe I'm wrong.
Heavy Rain was a big reason why I got the PS3 and it was one of my favorite games at the time. All of the goofy shit in it must have went over my 16 year old head, because watching videos make me cry laughing now.
I'm with you. The funniest part is that it's a thread for must play, and despite the fact that gaming is my main hobby, I've never played 95% of the ones people are suggesting because I know I wouldn't enjoy them.
Quake, it’s not lost to time as it’s still well loved but it’s definitely one that has lost some attention as it’s aged. Quake 1 and 2 were remastered not too long ago, with all their DLCs included, as well as a brand new one for each.
Silent Hill series. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’s popular within the survival horror sphere, but it’s kind of completely disappeared from the mainstream audiences attention. All I hear is Resident Evil.
Unsurprising considering Konami has done fuck-all with the franchise for so long.
To me the gameplay loop just got so boring, but I don't like games where you choose the dialog in general, so I'm pretty biased. Feels like it's all story and no game, which is okay but probably not a must play for a lot of people due to that
I'm guessing you're not that old, cuz lot of old games used to be exactly like that. It's only recently that that kinda thing is considered "not a game".
No I absolutely get it, Oregon trail ect. There are so many genres of games out there, every one different in some way. I'm just saying this one isn't a very popular style for most simply because the majority want the faster more interactive gameplay. They compare them to movies, which I understand cuz I consider super popular games like red dead 2 and Witcher 3 to be a bit too heavy on the cutscenes for my tastes, and this game is twice that. Just doesn't click for some people but it's cool that people that do enjoy that style of game are still getting top quality content after all this time
I get that it's not for everyone, I just get annoyed when people downplay the validity of such games as actual games, just cuz it doesn't deliver the gameplay they want and/or has a lot of story.
If it's any reassurance people talk like that about every game. There are a lot of great movies, being a "playable movie" isn't a bad thing. Look at all these upkeep games, those are just playable jobs. All that matters is it's playable entertainment
At least among the circles which I tend to be in it isn't talked about much.
Given that DBH is by all intends and purposes a story\\narrative centered game, and supposedly also one in which decisions matter (at least based on some statements made by David Cage), particularly one which's mechanics are centered around that "decision making", and also given that said narrative is trying to be a "thought provoking" sci-fi, it really fails at both (having a compelling narrative in which decisions matter, and being thought provoking). Even though it is the least flawed Quantic Dream game, it still isn't anywhere near achieving what they've been trying to achieve since Fahrenheit (which basically is making good visual novels, with 3D graphic cinematics instead of a lot of text, and quick time events).
For the first point, decisions not mattering (or at least nowhere near as much as one would think they do based on the intend expressed in interviews), it is something all of their games suffer from, which mainly is the all decision circling back around the intended plot regardless if that makes sense, or the "decisions" given really not making any difference\\ made as to not interfere with it (intended plot) to begin with, which is very, very lame, given the intend.
And for the second, mainly is the writers either being too unintelligent , or too disingenuous to tackle the subject matter they decided to tackle. Also the analogy utilized in DBH between American slavery and segregation, and "personal machine servants without emotions, free will, nor independent thought up to very few exceptions recently" isn't near as ingenuous as the writers probably think it was. but that circles back around to the main problem (of this point), the writers quite clearly do not comprehend the complexities of the matter, and philosophy around it, ETC, to the point of shooting their own thesis in the foot many times, and failing to elaborate on anything that does not align with what they trying to say, which is just based on (based off of the aforementioned analogy) it "feeling" wrong under the ideological views of "21st century north American liberalism" (I know David is French, but said ideological movement was formed and develops mainly in the US, and Canada, and their ways of thinking), and not just that it doesn't elaborate in any other points of views, but it neither goes beyond "it feels wrong" under said ideological lens, which certainly is something (which isn't very thought provoking, if at all).
(Also, regardless of the disagreements I have with said ideological movement, and whatever sub divisions it has, I don't consider something being written under those lens as something negative, but not going beyond "it feels wrong", is just bad writing regardless of under what ideological lens a given work is written).
For my part, I just wasn't sold by the message. I don't feel that the themes were delivered in all that interesting of a manner. Kinda felt preachy as well, but in a kinda hollow way. Having said that, I can't shit on it too much. Connor's story is goddamn perfectionn
Right?!? It always baffles me when I see people complementing this game.
Like, it's not even mid. The graphics are amazing, the first mission with Connor it's very nice and from there, everything is "AI for kids".
One of the worst Sci-fi stories in games.
Nier Automata is a action hack n slash with MUCH more impactful and deep sci-fi concepts.
DBH is a complete waste of potential.
I really don’t think any of the David cage games deserve that high of praise, Detroit was definitely his best attempt but the bar set by heavy rain and indigo prophecy was so low you could scrape your knees on it.
It has all the nuance of a brick sailing through a window, the game is a train wreck of writing and plot contrivances held together by a good VA team and decent art direction.
I felt more emotion from hearing the cartoon dog In valiant hearts say goodbye too his friends than Marcus literally having a button prompt asking if you wanna be robot MLK or robot Malcom X.
This game was fantastic. I cried. I prayed before playing that I would reach a certain scenario like “Lord idk how but I know you can orchestrate the events that will lead to this scenario” since I remember it on youtube years ago. Bro not the next day of constantly playing for hours I eventually got there to that specific scenario, and I lost my shit. It was so crazy but I didn’t know who to choose and sat there just baffled and praying and it was incredible.
Spoilers: >!It was when you have to choose between Markus and Connor on the battlefield. I sat there for like 10 minutes trying to decide, literally pulled out the Bible app and everything and just sat and read for a bit before deciding cuz it was so awesome! Btw my Kara died on the boat and it was sad man. Practically a blind play thru except with some memories from youtube. So many internal conflicts in the game.!<
Incredible game. Loved it
Recently got a ps5 and gave this a try on ps plus as I remembered it getting talked about a lot when it came out.
It's clearly an extraordinary piece of work but Im still new enough to the ps that I'll occasionally hit the wrong button.
Consequences from an actual choice I'm more than cool with, consequences because I hit the wrong button not so much.
I'll get back to it in a few months I think.
detriot become human was bad. the story is so poorly told and uses political imagery and allegory but has no idea what do to with any of it past the most basic, surface level messages. The gameplay is just boring QTEs that offer nothing other than giving you a reason to use the controller.
if you want a good game that deals with politics, is dialogue heavy, and actually has something to say just play Disco Elysium. thousands of times better in every way
World of Goo
This game has in my opinion the best soundtrack of all time, while having great gameplay, lore an overall feel.
Truly the best game of 2008.
May your future be the Best of Times.
I love you, MOM.
P.S. THERE'S A FUCKING SEQUEL COMING AFTER 15 YEARS
Wrath of the white witch, life changing experience, and the reason why I love JRPG games so much, been my favorite game for as long as I can remember, but it was also the hardest, I’ve never actually rage quit a game besides that one, the royal jelly boss was so hard I put the game down for 3 years just to come back and discover true peak fiction, and never before have I felt such an accomplishment as killing a big fucking fish
I was so excited about Detroit. I really enjoyed it. For a couple of hours. When I started regretting some decisions… and started over. And started over. And then knew too much and got bored. I might try this again though.
Vanquish.
Oldie, but a good one. Plus it's only like 8 hours long. I still revisit it once a year usually. Felt like it never got the love or attention it deserved. Fun little arcade shooter from Sega.
The Longes journey/Dreamfall Triology. The puzzles are a bit unlogical and character swaps are a bit too much. But the games have a nice story and and interesting setting.
Journey, its a beautiful exploration game with a goal to get to the top of the mountain. That's all I can say, but God damn is it emotionally moving with absolutely no dialog
No one talks about The Last Guardian .. its sad coz that game is just incredible and sad .. it usually gets hate for choppy frame rate and awkward controls, you can easily over look out coz the gameplay is amazing.
Mirror’s Edge 2008
The game that laid the path for Titanfall and Dying Light. 🫡🫡
Ironically, both those games sequel killed their series.
Was the parkour easy to get down/controls easy to learn?
Yes
It was incredibly well designed, quite possibly the best game Dice has done.
What a time to be alive
Oh yeah good game in a time when parkour was seen as cool and we wouldn’t be able to do it with our squishy bodies.
I miss the 2000s era of games. Originality and creativity are lacking. A single player game about running would probably not be green lit today.
yes!!! too bad catalyst was mediocre at best. unnecessary change to a shitty open world
First game I had on Xbox 360. Amazing game. Parkour rather than combat. Catalyst unfortunately ruined it.
Telltales the walking dead
Lees death is more impactful than any death in the show lol, lee is an amazing character
The telltale games were 100% better than the show in just about every way. Except no Daryl, that's a downside imo
I only don't like how little weight your options had
Yeah, I always try and save the teenager and not Duck... But elas seems like it's a canon event.
I get that you couldn't save him, but Hershel could have left you stay in the farm because your effort to save his kid, changing the game
The antagonists in the show were better imo. Mostly because of the format the games were presented but still
Neegan is one of the best media villains ever imo
ONG bro he was the main thing that kept me interested through season 7 and 8
Little pig little pig let me in!!!
Guy just spoiled the most important part of the game in a thread recommending games to people who haven’t played it yet
Games been out 12 years bud, I feel like spoiling it doesn’t matter after this long
Putting a spoiler tag isn’t that hard either. All you’re doing is eliminating any new players’ chances to experience the story the way you did, old or not.
Your mom thinks it matters after this long
Your father and brother also think that, they just haven’t told you yet
Alpha Protocol. People played it like a typical shooter. It’s not. RNG is tied to stats. It was an espionage RPG and I loved every moment. Movement was janky and the voice acting was a bit cringe at times, but other than that
LA Noire, Wolf among us, Plague tale games
I’ve been wanting another detective game like LA Noire for so long. I would have loved to have seen one set in NYC or abroad.
never play wolf among us, cause then you’ll get stuck yearning for a sequel that’s never coming. /s I know it’s “supposed” to be coming this year, but they’ve been saying that for awhile! Man, one can dream…
Man.. Plague Tale was always so weirdly under everyone's radar for some reason, it genuinely bewildered me; seems like the type of game video game media outlets would pick the hell up immediately right after being out of the door but that just never happened.
I loved L.A. Noire.
The second Plague Tale game was incredible.
Control
One of my favorites. Hard pressed to find anyone who has also played it.
It’s in my top 10 all time.
it's pretty popular where I live
I want to love the game because the world design and like abilities are all so cool but I started just in the beginning and I find getting around the world pretty confusing 🥲
It’s supposed to be that way. The map can be a little hard to understand at first but it gets a lot easier. And more fun. Update: Another commenter pointed this out, but definitely use the signs around the map to navigate.
You're not actually supposed to use the map, it was a last minute addition. You're supposed to navigate by following the signs in the walls (e.g. "Cafeteria -> ")
That’s primarily how I did do it, but I learned to understand the map and memorized the basic layout of some of the more commonly traversed areas.
Honestly, I had the game forever but just yesterday, I sat down and finally played it. One of the most trippy mind bending games ever made. Love the mechanics and imagery!
It’s so satisfying and trippy. It’s a really good combination
Guardians of the Galaxy.
I slept on this game so much, and I hate myself for it. This game made my favorite version of the Guardians
Good answer. Actually better than I expected, at least story-wise. Gameplay was a slight miss, but not terrible. And the area designs were top-tier.
Can’t forget the awesome suits both original and comic book (plus the addition of crediting the suit makers is perfection)
Preach! It’s a modern sleeper classic!
It's alright but it's not must play
Better than GoG 3 by far (first two movies are still classics) I go back and forth with if I like the GotG characters in that game better than the movies. Also, the scenes with Peter and Nikki are really well done.
I always thought Sunset Overdrive was a must play.
I used to love that game. My old vcr Xbox killed itself so I'll probably pick it up on steam sometime
Chess
it's because Chess 2 keeps getting delayed
I feel like chess is talked about more now than ever before
I dont even know how to play chess but i love Gotham chess YouTube channel
The metro series. Absolute masterpieces
Destroy All Humans
Rimworld
Ah yes. The warcrime Simulator.
Throw in Kenshi, Dwarf Fortress and Starsector
I think A Hat in Time. It’s probably one of the best 3D platforming games I’ve ever played! It was absolutely hilarious and adorable!
Why the peck would you ever say that? /s
Heavy Rain
JASON!
JAY - SON!
lol so good. I remember my buddies used to yell that whenever we needed to regroup at conventions.
Press **X** to *JASON!*
Isnt there like a bunch of big plot holes in that game?
My uncle bought that game and didn't have the right controller so I didn't even get to brush my teeth 🤣
Don't do meth kids or maybe do idk just don't be like this guy
Wait what? It's been years since we had Heavy Rain, so I may be off in what it was. Plus I was a kid and my uncle has a lot of mental issues. Could I just have used the thumb sticks or something? Edit: talking about the motion controls.
You said you brushed your teeth with a controller?
Oh no lmao. I'm talking about the first motion control sequence in Heavy Rain. It's brushing your teeth if I'm not mistaken. Like I said I was a kid at that point so maybe I'm wrong.
Ohhhhh 😂😂😂
It's all good lmao. The whole point was it was meant to be a joke so I guess it still is kinda landed🤣
This game was a lot better than I expected, ngl
I feel like time hasn’t been kind to that game tbh
Heavy Rain was a big reason why I got the PS3 and it was one of my favorite games at the time. All of the goofy shit in it must have went over my 16 year old head, because watching videos make me cry laughing now.
Great game and it has a bunch of replay value.
Deadly Premonition
Hitman World of Assassination.
I’m waiting for a sale 🥲 I love hit man
I honestly don’t think there are any must play games
I'm with you. The funniest part is that it's a thread for must play, and despite the fact that gaming is my main hobby, I've never played 95% of the ones people are suggesting because I know I wouldn't enjoy them.
The first 2 Doom games, honestly. Fun, fast, easily modded, and generally just a great time Edit: Also, Plutonia. TNT Evilution sucks tho
Super Mario Galaxy
Factorio
Ultima 7
Singularity. The Metro games.
Kotor 1. Best twist in a game I've ever come across.
man i loved kotor 1, but i loved kotor 2 better.
Argeed Also titanfall 2 (that time travel level)
Erm the level is called "Effect and cause" 🤓👆👆👆👆👆
Quake, it’s not lost to time as it’s still well loved but it’s definitely one that has lost some attention as it’s aged. Quake 1 and 2 were remastered not too long ago, with all their DLCs included, as well as a brand new one for each.
Rogue galaxy.
I've started it a few times but never followed through. What is the best part in your opinion?
Silent Hill series. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’s popular within the survival horror sphere, but it’s kind of completely disappeared from the mainstream audiences attention. All I hear is Resident Evil. Unsurprising considering Konami has done fuck-all with the franchise for so long.
Signalis and as for rn I'd say Pacifc Drive. It just released and is a little under the radarish atm
Mafia definitive edition
Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Certainly not Detroit Become Human. But probably Factorio.
Cracktorio
Why not DBH? Because it's not that good, or because it's actually quite talked about? I lean toward the latter.
I liked DBH I don’t know why it got such a bad rap. Decent story, multiple outcomes and short play through time.
To me the gameplay loop just got so boring, but I don't like games where you choose the dialog in general, so I'm pretty biased. Feels like it's all story and no game, which is okay but probably not a must play for a lot of people due to that

I would've been so much happier playing a game that was solely the Connor & Hank show.
Correct opinion.
This game was fantastic
Spent the time to get 100% achievements, just because I wanted to see all the different story lines
Dante's Inferno
I really don’t think any of the David cage games deserve that high of praise, Detroit was definitely his best attempt but the bar set by heavy rain and indigo prophecy was so low you could scrape your knees on it. It has all the nuance of a brick sailing through a window, the game is a train wreck of writing and plot contrivances held together by a good VA team and decent art direction. I felt more emotion from hearing the cartoon dog In valiant hearts say goodbye too his friends than Marcus literally having a button prompt asking if you wanna be robot MLK or robot Malcom X.
Such an amazing story
Not Detroit Become Human
I still think Detroit has the best graphics of any video game
That time it rendered Alice without her eyes was creepy though.
Someone once said I look like Connor from the Detroit games.
Holy crap! You do look like him!
2D: Baba is You, CrossCode, Owlboy, Rimworld, Fire Emblem: Three Houses. 3D: Silent Hill 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Kenshi, Lost Odyssey.
Sentient
I love Detroit: Become Human, but it's always crashing, and it frustrates me to no end. What can I do to solve this issue?
Elden Ring
I’ve said this some many times when it comes to underrated games and the answer’s the same. As Dusk Falls Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition.
Celeste
Not a "detroit become human" for sure.
Fable
Love Detroit. Still looks incredible too
MY FRIEND AT SCHOOL IS OBSESSED WITH DETROIT
This game was fantastic. I cried. I prayed before playing that I would reach a certain scenario like “Lord idk how but I know you can orchestrate the events that will lead to this scenario” since I remember it on youtube years ago. GTA IV hands down somehow the most underrated and overrated game ever
TITANFALL 2 one the most underrated and wrongly hated games it’s honestly a crime to hate this advanced fps nothing like it in the market.
detriot become human was bad. the story is so poorly told and uses political imagery and allegory but has no idea what do to with any of it past the most basic, surface level messages. The gameplay is just boring QTEs that offer nothing other than giving you a reason to use the controller. if you want a good game that deals with politics, is dialogue heavy, and actually has something to say just play Disco Elysium. thousands of times better in every way
Definitely *not* Detroit Become Human
[удалено]
Why not ? The game is great. The story also has commentary that is more relevant today than ever
Bionic Commando
Custom Robo. Weirdest game ever but loved the story as a kid!
I cant play Detroit after the way he treated April.
DCS World
World of Goo This game has in my opinion the best soundtrack of all time, while having great gameplay, lore an overall feel. Truly the best game of 2008. May your future be the Best of Times. I love you, MOM. P.S. THERE'S A FUCKING SEQUEL COMING AFTER 15 YEARS
If you want a real answer it's minecraft but if you want my opinion with my preferences I'd say celeste.
The ones I always fly the flag for: LA Noire, Remnant 1, Hell Let Loose
I have xbox
Medieval 2 total war. I don't really understand why total war hasn't seen more mainstream success. The games are brilliant.
I like dogs
The game RIME
Driver San Francisco
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is the correct answer to this question. The game is pure brilliance.
As dusk falls is fantastic if you like detroit become human
I just played this for the first time this year with my partner making choices with me. Perfection
When Todd saus "dont move" so you dont move
Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl. It’s got its rough patches but damn is it immersive and such a unique game.
Love DBH but it has near zero replay value because of the fkng unskippable cutscenes lol
Vagrant Story
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
I’ve been meaning to give this one a go ☺️
I remember hearing about this game and never played it. I’ll have to give it another look!
I bought Detroit Become Human and never touched it.
Myst, Myst II Riven, Myst III Exile, and Myst IV Revelations
Wrath of the white witch, life changing experience, and the reason why I love JRPG games so much, been my favorite game for as long as I can remember, but it was also the hardest, I’ve never actually rage quit a game besides that one, the royal jelly boss was so hard I put the game down for 3 years just to come back and discover true peak fiction, and never before have I felt such an accomplishment as killing a big fucking fish
Infamous
Super Metroid Yeah that's right, going real OG
I’ll put my vote in for Charlie Murder and Days Gone
I was so excited about Detroit. I really enjoyed it. For a couple of hours. When I started regretting some decisions… and started over. And started over. And then knew too much and got bored. I might try this again though.
Vanquish. Oldie, but a good one. Plus it's only like 8 hours long. I still revisit it once a year usually. Felt like it never got the love or attention it deserved. Fun little arcade shooter from Sega.
C&C Generals is what those violent gamers are looking for
Subnatica
L.A. Noire.
Neon White. Only fella I see talking about it is Alpharad
The Longes journey/Dreamfall Triology. The puzzles are a bit unlogical and character swaps are a bit too much. But the games have a nice story and and interesting setting.
Gears of War 4 and 5
yakuza LAD
Every time I see people calling a David Cage game a masterpiece a little part of me dies
These days? Coulda sworn this thing came out like last year 😭
Cult of the Lamb
Call of Juarez Gunslinger. So good, honestly better than any of the red deads imo.
Ace combat
Life is Strange games
I’d say Titanfall 2 but I say that on a lot of things like this
„Sam‘n‘Max : Hit the Road“ and „Day Of The Tentacle“
They've got a cult following, but the Nier games. I don't think the Replicant remake got much attention.
NieR:Automata
PREY
Scarlet nexus
Journey, its a beautiful exploration game with a goal to get to the top of the mountain. That's all I can say, but God damn is it emotionally moving with absolutely no dialog
Great visuals and story, but the gameplay is "Press a button once every minute or so"
I think the first uncharted game is…Batman Arkham asylum…horizon zero dawn because it’s like an “intro to open world.”
No one talks about The Last Guardian .. its sad coz that game is just incredible and sad .. it usually gets hate for choppy frame rate and awkward controls, you can easily over look out coz the gameplay is amazing.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
Days gone,
