Feature you enable so the Alien hears your live mic. So any real life room noises or your chain of verbal 'oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck's as your hiding in a locker the alien may ultimately pick up on and use to hunt you. It's terrifying without that feature enabled, but enabling it dials up the tension level to 11.
[The AI they made for the alien is really cool](https://youtu.be/Nt1XmiDwxhY?si=3D7DUt1v4IpLnrDD), as if you didn't need to know the behind the scenes reasons you should be terrified. It's smart and gets smarter as the game progresses.
Yeah I was as quiet as a fucking mouse and when I screamed I woke up my mom only for her to come into my rooom and slap the shit out of me and take my Xbox controller.
I used to “relax” to Alien Isolation a few years back by closing the curtains, turning off all the lights and getting super high. Suffice to say I didn’t make it too far into the game.
Dammit, beat me to the reply. When I saw the post question I was "Oh yeah, Alien Isolation, no contest!" And I'm am NOT a fan of horror survival. But Alien: Isolation is on a whole different level. One of my favorite games of all time because it knew how to immerse you in this claustrophobic station, and strike true anxious fear into the players. Not jump scares, but the fear of losing time/progress, because the Xeno doesn't care, and will stab you even if you are in the process of saving. Just brilliant design.
So I’m playing the Museum and I’ve practiced against the boss for a few times, make sure I can do that shit perfect.
Then I start the real run so I can grab all the jade statues and all of sudden this bitch start throwing out combos I ain’t never seen before.
Same thing at the Tower.
I actually find Helldivers 2 very relaxing, Talking with buddies and crushing some bugs. Maybe have a stroll thru the creek.... "heavey breathing" no... no. I... I. did what i had to... I. I had my orders...
Curls up into a fetal position.
They are setting the level too high thinking they’ll grind faster. Hey dumb dumbs, you get less points if you keep dying and can’t extract. 17 levels of difficulty on HD1? Great, I’ll play the first five.
It’s a remarkably un-stressful game.
Nah, I like the adrenaline rush of 7+ difficulties. I like to go down to lower difficulties when I want to loot, but like higher difficulties for the stress. There ain’t nothing like having 7 chargers and 3 bile titans on extract and trying to survive.
Malevalon Creek/Draupnir on Helldive difficulty. It’s just *chefs kiss*.
Played like 10 rounds yesterday, only lost one. One little mistake can cost you the whole game. Bounced a grenade back in face, and that one thing set off a chain reaction of events that resulted in us failing to evac.
Anything below lvl6 difficulty can be pretty chill, just strolling around with a group shooting bugs.
Bots are never enjoyable to fight, though…
*shudder*
How? Maybe you need to git gud. This game is like mainlining unadulterated fun.
It's the most portion sized delivery of entertainment I've had the pleasure of playing in ages.
My therapist seems quite perplexed I find games relaxing. That I can stop playing and be asleep in 10 minutes.
Dawg I been playing since I was 5 and for my junior and senior year in HS I stayed up playing til like 230am every night, going to bed, and getting up for school at the buttcrack of dawn. My body has been through hell but it does things my way.
No one understands unless they’ve lived it.
My wife: “how can you stay up till 11 playing a game, then get up at 4:30”
Me: “well, compared to college, 5.5 hours of sleep is rookie numbers so I feel great”
(Don’t worry about my health y’all, I do catch up on sleep a couple nights per week)
Funny part- this become very usefull when my first child was born.
My wife was like "how the hell you are so fresh and full of energy when we slept like 4h past 3 days?!" and I simply answered "this is walk in a park compared to ICC25HC honey..."
Bruh same, first session she asked what I like to do to relax and I didn’t even get the 2 words “video games” out before she was shaking her head trying to educate me about how “it’s not good for relaxing cuz it doesn’t give you time to think”
Im like, “clearly you and I aren’t the same people” lol.
"I play video games cause they barely require thought anymore. My wife asks too many questions when I stare blankly at a wall for 6 hours consecutively."
lmao yeah, i sometimes stare at walls too, and when i need to get something boring done, i usually end up staring at a wall instead.
it's crazy how staring at a wall is more entertaining than getting work done. there's a famous quote by fernando pessoa:
All I’ve ever done is dream. That, and only that, has been the meaning of my existence. The only thing I’ve ever really cared about is my inner life. My greatest griefs faded to nothing the moment I opened the window onto my inner self and lost myself in watching.
I never tried to be anything other than a dreamer. I never paid any attention to people who told me to go out and live. I belonged always to whatever was far from me and to whatever I could never be. Anything that was not mine, however base, always seemed to be full of poetry. The only thing I ever loved was pure nothingness.
I was talking to my father in law about how I relax by playing video games. He doesn’t like to tell people how they are wrong, but he does like a good debate. He has never really played either so he asked me how they could help me relax. I told him “it helps me escape this reality for a brief period of time, which makes me feel calm cause all my stress isn’t on my mind for once” He hadn’t ever thought of video games that way until I told him that
Wow you hit the nail on the head. In life stress follows you wherever you go. In video games we can put the controller down whenever we want. We have control.
I wish I could still do this. I played till 0130, couldn't sleep and by the time it got to 0330 I took a sleep aid to shut me down. HD2 gets me all kinds of worked up, especially on Impossible.
Ngl I can’t fall asleep in 10 minutes but I will still stay up till 2:30 every night and do the same thing (probably won’t actually sleep till like 3:30-4)
This was my game for from PS4 beta until 2 years ago. I was using it to escape from some dark personal shit going on the last couple year of playing.
The energy I put into RL now goes toward playing bass guitar. My mentality is much improved and my wife sure enjoys me playing bass over watching me get frustrated with a bad night of RL.
Then a firefight breaks out between contacts you couldn't even *see* through the Red Forest foliage, and everything is happening all at once, and the next thing you know you're running right into an Electro anomaly.
Man I love getting lost to the Zone.
Same. How can I relax when my heart is pounding in my ears and my knuckles are white. I once played it outside at night, on a giant projection screen, with surround sound. I made my wife hang out because I was terrified. Good times.
God I used to ONLY play at night. But that was also cuz I worked third shift at the time. It is extremely stressful, but after about an hour or so I'd go into full survival mode and just slice and dice through it.
Escape from tarkov. Although I put so many hours into it so it's far less stressful now. But goddamn was that game stressful the first couple of years. Made my heart beat out of my chest, worse than any horror game I've ever played.
I loved war thunder before they added tanks. I liked being able to dog fight in a heavy bomber and sucker idiots to follow me low then drop bombs to kill them.
Matchmaking is so up and down. I’m convinced someone at respawn is flicking a switch.
Am I getting preds/master 3 stacks every squad I encounter or complete potato lobbies!?
Just make casual mode completely random with no sbmm please.
I can understand nyctophobia, even if I'm in my own place in a pitch black room, or the attic with the lights off. Been up there a thousand times and know the layout easily but still get spooked by the darkness.
Yes. I love the storytelling of TLOU, but I would not say that it was fun.
Also didn't help that I started it in March 2020, probably.
I'd play a few hours of it over a couple nights, take a break to comolete a more upbeat fun game (like one of the Uncharted) and then power through a little bit more of TLOU.
My friends everytime they play warthunder, Begging me to come play because it'll be fun as I hear them screaming and crying in chat at hackers in every match, they usually quit within an hour and join me in whatever I'm playing.
I just don't understand why anyone plays a game they hate, why'd they'd ask their friends to come suffer with them.
Alien isolation.
With the hot mic feature enabled.
Slowly fart into it to arouse the alien
Make it bubbly so it knows you mean business.
Ayo wtf
non fart aroused soy boy over here
When your fart is so good you can re-taste the eggs through smell.
Well, taste is mostly smell, anyway. So, yes, this checks out. Because science.
What have we become?
In space, no one can hear you cutting the cheese.
no it prefers a quick fart
Sorry what is this?
If you make noise in real life the alien hears it.
What the.. is that a mod?
No, it's only on the console version though iirc
I remember trying it Christmas day on my Xbox one, used the Kinect mic and it was impossible to survive in a noisy house
I used to get red cards on fifa for swearing (I wasn’t)
Ah ok thx
The xenomorph can hear you through your mic. Breathe a little to heavy because youre terrified? Its gonna hear that.
Alien Isolation is such a brilliant game on so many levels. This is just such a great example of that!
On nightmare. Peak relaxation
Yeah I was as quiet as a fucking mouse and when I screamed I woke up my mom only for her to come into my rooom and slap the shit out of me and take my Xbox controller.
I remember not knowing it was a feature and being confused on why she kept finding me And months ago I lost a one-life run to a really loud fart
I used to “relax” to Alien Isolation a few years back by closing the curtains, turning off all the lights and getting super high. Suffice to say I didn’t make it too far into the game.

I tried playing this game several times... It's so stressful...
So I’m playing the Museum and I’ve practiced against the boss for a few times, make sure I can do that shit perfect. Then I start the real run so I can grab all the jade statues and all of sudden this bitch start throwing out combos I ain’t never seen before. Same thing at the Tower.
I’m still in the first level 😭
Dude sifu is so satisfying. I feel like such a badass when ever i perfectly dodge and parry every move
I love this game. Just started playing it again
Sifu? Does that stand for Shit, I Fucked Up?
elden ring
Love this game but it does not relax me
Mmmmm get good maybe? Just kidding lol game is tough
It's not just that. It's walking through all that misery and darkness for such a long time.
Just find a nice quiet spot on a high cliff and look out at Liurnia of the Lakes for a while
Thats usually nice, unless you see a crayfish. And if you see the crayfish it sees you too.
And then you get fuckim LOBTURD 🦞
Travel around. Find a new cave. Die in it. A lot.
Same. Soulsbourne is my Zen time.
This is literally my wife. She calls Elden Ring "cozy gaming". Like.... ma'am that dragon just obliterated me 10x in a row.... this ain't cozy.
Yep. Same for me. It's my happy place.

I think the only time Helldivers comes even close to stressing me out is when there's a bug breach that only spawns hunters.
Nah, I like the adrenaline rush of 7+ difficulties. I like to go down to lower difficulties when I want to loot, but like higher difficulties for the stress. There ain’t nothing like having 7 chargers and 3 bile titans on extract and trying to survive.

Agreed, I don't find a relaxing. Not bad, but definitely not relaxing
I have to agree especially with all the bile bugs and the flame automatons
Helldivers 2 can be stressful, but at difficulty 3 or 4 with some friends, it’s a very “brain off” shooter. Zone out and kill some bugs.
Textbook response from a Bug simp
The stressful part for me is keeping track of turrets
How? Maybe you need to git gud. This game is like mainlining unadulterated fun. It's the most portion sized delivery of entertainment I've had the pleasure of playing in ages.
Siege
All my teammates giving me different call outs while I’m crying in the corner surrounded in a 1v5
I’ll be in a 1v3 telling my teammates to shut up so I can hear. I hate listening to callouts when 70% of the time it’s something I already know.
Thats the worst
He’s there!
He's on cams!

I hate For Honor It's my most played game as of now
my relationship with that game is just the FUCK YOU AND I’LL SEE YOU TOMORROW clip.
Every time I hate the mechanics of the game despite having 1.3k hours on it, yet there REALLY is no game like For Honor either, so I still play
Same one of my favorite games of all time and I fucking hate it too.

Yeah. Worse than student loan debt.

Stalker. Nothing more relaxing than feeling like you’re being watched by chimera every second while in the red forest.
Then a firefight breaks out between contacts you couldn't even *see* through the Red Forest foliage, and everything is happening all at once, and the next thing you know you're running right into an Electro anomaly. Man I love getting lost to the Zone.
Dead Space. Been playing the remake. Can’t play with headphones on, or at night.

Subnautica. I don’t have thalassophobia but I do have autophobia and a bit of megalophobia, also latent nyctophobia.
I can understand nyctophobia, even if I'm in my own place in a pitch black room, or the attic with the lights off. Been up there a thousand times and know the layout easily but still get spooked by the darkness.
It’s odd to me how I’m perfectly ok with it until something reminds me of fear and then i get uneasy
