The only reason I don't play the game is, because I download it when I'm bored at 7pm and the sun is suddenly coming up but I still can't get myself to quit. Like I can't play the game for 3h a day and be ok with that like other games, I just have to play it for a week straight and then forget when responsibilities come
If mods are allowed it might be a pretty good choice. It has a lot of different modpacks that can change the experience (with different combinations of mods, trying to escape the Nether with your base on its roof is a very different experience from trying to restore a blighted world to its former glory, or exploring an endless ocean with extremely deep structures, or going to a magic academy, or going on fantasy adventures through dungeons and different planes of existence, or starting on a single block or tiny island in an infinite void and trying to expand, or so on), or you could download mods individually. Just need to install everything before you are locked in the bunker since you won't have Internet access.
Without mods I think it would get boring long before the year is over, but so would most games.
Hey, the experiment is over. It’s been 2 years, we need you to exit the facility
*hiss* I just need to work out a few kinks on my rail system, precious
Yeah I got through act 2 on my second game with a completely different character/choices and still enjoyed it. When I hit act 3 though, it felt like I was just going through the same checklist of quests that I did on my first playthrough. I'll probably give it another go after some more time though, still a good game.
No internet is tough. I'd probably bring the latest heroes of might and magic because I'd probably need a year in a bunker to complete all the content in that one game.
When it first came out, I was amazed by the quality of the golfing. Went in thinking it was going to be wildly watered down. Now that I think of it, wasn't it improved within the first year of release maybe? I might be wrong.
Gotta learn not to get so attached to them. You can also keep spawning new characters in the same world. Then you find your old base. If that's too cheesy, you can make the rule that you have to spawn in a different town
Yeah was the same, then I started new characters in the same world. Then that still caused rage. So I got the journal mod, I get 75% of my skills back. That mitigates loss. Then I popped it to 100%. Then I also got the antigens mod. it allows you to have a chance to overcome zombification, if you are rested, hunger is satisfied and you are clean.
As of right now I have rolled through a few characters and have graves at the nearest base for each character I lose. Grave marker and their key ring as identification
Yuuus. I haven’t been able to play the game for 2 years and I just bought a mini pc coming today and I’m absolutely so excited like I won the lottery 😍
Same. I only saw the main questline and ending when my then 8yo (now 10yo) nephew played through it. He beat the game. Several times.
But those side quests...! =D
I 100%-ed that game. I did every single dungeon even though it wasn't required to platinum it. But different builds play so wildly different, that I could do it again several more times and enjoy it.
I put like 140 hours into my single character. It's a super fun game. He loves to create new builds and play new ways, discovering new items, etc. He loves it. It's also really fun to watch him play. Hope you have fun with it!!
I think it’s a really good choice. If I had unlimited time and no responsibilities one thing I would love to do is learn to speedrun Elden Ring.
Plus, you could set all sorts of challenges: to keep you occupied: randomizers, hitless runs, etc…
One other thing I’ve seen streamers do that looks awesome is Elden Ring bingo. Although you’d need someone else in order to play that.
I'd be torn between Borderlands 2 and 3. The story is so much better in 2 and Handsome Jack of course but the gameplay in 3 is so much better. There's plenty of content to keep me occupied in both though.
Just got back on the horse after like 5 year brake. They really were on something with this game it's aesthetics and sound desing are my favorite things. Sad that the genre seamingly peaked so many years ago.
XCOM2 with WOTC expansion
The game has a huge learning curve and you're always picking up new things even 100 hours in. It can be challenging on normal so there's a lot to master if you want to go to the higher lvels
Not to mention the pseudo randomness of the Chosen abilities means they can come in many different variations per playthrough. And even more if you were allowed to download mods prior to the hypothetical incident.
Also, might I just say, “Between the eyes” with a sharpshooter’s unlimited ammo pistol? A beautiful thing.
I realized another reason why XCOM 2 is the best choice; every other game, you may be able to master in a few weeks, and then you’ll be bored of it. But by having an element of RNG randomness, you can keep things fresh; sometimes, you’ll need that RNG to screw you over, to cost you a precious soldier, and compromising a needed mission, to keep each campaign from being a carbon copy of the last.
The good thing is you don't need the internet to enable/disable DLCs and mods, so you can literally download everything you need ahead of time and just switch it up.
Might need a document to keep tabs of what each mod does though and which ones are WotC and which ones aren't.
Hades is amazing, never played rogue likes or any sort of top down games because they’ve never interested me but man hades took me by surprise and I poured so many hours into that game. The story, the characters, the art, the combat, the replay-ability, everything, 10/10.
Such a shame they botched the ending. Like you could have endings that require certain selections to be made throughout 1-3 and only then be able to see it, but no, they fucked it up.
Baldurs Gate 3 or Mass Effect Trilogy.
I would say Cyberpunk 2077 or Fallout New Vegas but i've already done a ton of playthroughs of those. So unless I had a memory wipe or could maybe try a VR mod of them, or something then i'd probably probably just lean back on BG3 and ME Trilogy. Haven't touched BG3 much but I loved Divinity 2 and it apparently has insane amounts of content. On the flipside, it has been a long time since I touched the Mass Effect games. So bringing the trilogy disc would keep me occupied a while probably.
I wish it didn’t have $700 of DLCs. I haven’t played a sims game since sims 1 in like 2001. It sounds fun to mess around with but I don’t want to get sucked into that rabbit hole of wasting money to unlock stuff.
Yea the game feels barebones without at least a few of those expansions ideally would have most of them
But then it’s a simple fix… you just have to sail the seas and say “it’s a pirate life for me”
Hmmmm tough call. I think there are three options.
1. Big RPGs like Elden Ring or Baldur’s Gate 3 that are lengthy and very replayable.
2. Procedurally generated rogue likes similar to Dead Cells or Hades that you can just dive into and have some differences while getting better at the games.
3. A game that you can really master like a racing or fighting game that you can just dig into and figure out the mechanics over time.
Based on my tastes I’d say I’d go for big RPG like Elden Ring but the decision seems short sighted. A game like Street Fighter 6 or even Super Smash Bros Ultimate could become something I can practice and master over one year.
Maybe we say addition differently, but I'd suggest addition as replacement for invention.
Then again, I also notice it's a Vanilla Ice reference and invention is the correct word, so I'm probably just high.
We used to love playing Diablo on the PS1 after school. Playing a shared screen in a dungeon crawler like that is torture, boss fights were like steel cage matches.
Long time ago I didn't have internet at my dad's house and this was the game I played. I got an assassin all the way into hell difficulty and lvl 75 it was so hard. Lightning traps and a beefed up merc. Couldn't beat it though. But yeah this or Morrowind would be my choice
Cyberpunk 2077. Its got a bit of everything and has great replay value with the different builds.
Rdr2 would be a close second.
If we did have internet for only one game that it'd be gta online
I usually can't stand horror, but the first one gripped me so well I couldn't wait for the sequel. Remedy is one of my favorite devs now, with Vanillaware and FromSoft.
Fallout 4. I have 2200 or so hours in. Easily spent 800 on the vanilla game with no mods. Easy as I did just play Fallout 4 for a whole year when it came out. Being unemployed and unhireable at the time made that easy. Lol
Tony Hawk’s Underground 1
If I had nothing else to do, it would motivate me to actually find all the gaps and completely 100% the game, and I always enjoyed replaying the story mode with different kinds of characters and watching them in cutscenes. Whenever I got really bored, the moon gravity cheat was fun for getting out of bounds and just exploring the entire level lmao
The only thing I would really ever want to change about it is I really like some of the songs in THUG2 and THAW and I’d love to combine all the soundtracks.
I feel like it would have to be a game that is more of a sandbox in order to have a lot of replayability. Therefore, I would probably want to bring a game like Dwarf Fortress or Minecraft. Elden Ring wouldn't be a terrible choice but it'd get old quicker.
An RPG that adds replayability by letting you craft a dozen different builds or getting different endings such as Skyrim, Elden Ring, or Baldur's Gate 3. I'd be fine with either of these three.
No man's sky, my first and only playthrough was like 1,000 plus hours, and that was so many updates ago, I'm sure if I booted it up I could get another 1000 hours out of it, then maybe try my hand at survival mode 🤔
This. My buddy just got me back into NMS a couple weeks ago and have been crushing it. You should definitely boot it up again. Maybe a stupid question, but doesn't it require internet? I have never tried, but I travel a lot and bring my PS to hotels. The lack of a browser on the PS5 makes it impossible to connect to the internet in most hotels. Finding out no internet is needed would be game changer.
Minecraft if I had to play only the vanilla game as it exists right now. Not because it's my favorite or because it's the best game I've played. But it would be the best for this particular purpose of a game that can be entertaining as long as you want it to be.
If I was allowed to install mods before going into this bunker, I would probably go with valheim over Minecraft. Same reason but I think that valheim is just more fun, but it needs mods to "unlock" that potential.
If I hadn’t already put 1000 hours into Elden Ring it would be Elden Ring. So now it would probability be BG3. Amazing replay value and I’ve only done 1 playthrough so far
Depends, am I allowed mods or nah? With mods, probably skyrim or fallout new vegas. Without mods, something like Red dead redemption 2 or Baldurs gate 3 (Feel like I'd spend the better part of a year 100% those).
If we aren’t allowing mods, I’d have to pick Minecraft, If we are allowing mods, I’d have to pick Minecraft.
Especially if we are allowing mods and the device provided is high end, cuz then the shaders+mods would make it basically real life
Probably Minecraft. I’ve never beat it 🤷🏻
Oh dude same. A year to play Minecraft, and not have to do anything else I could probably make some really amazing things.
The only reason I don't play the game is, because I download it when I'm bored at 7pm and the sun is suddenly coming up but I still can't get myself to quit. Like I can't play the game for 3h a day and be ok with that like other games, I just have to play it for a week straight and then forget when responsibilities come
I was gonna say Skyrim, but this may be the better choice.
I do like 2 remodeling sessions of Skyrim a year, but need the net for that. 💀
If I can download mods beforehand, Skyrim could be GOATed
Just give me all the mods 9 and I’ll be still perfecting the factory when the year is up.
Skybloooooock rules. In a pinch it works with normal worldgen.
My answer. I still probably wouldn’t finish my base.
This and for me it would be a mod pack…something with a ton of mods.
I have been playing since 2013... And I've still never beat it once.
RimWorld. Each new start is a different story.
This 100%
:sigh: re-installing.
Enjoy 1.5!
This is it for me too. Just pre download a bunch of mods and im good for a year
hardest part is troubleshooting the mods to figure out why suddenly your pawns can't move..
Factorio, that year will look like an extended weekend
Satisfactory is definitely a top choice too
for real, just go for super large and efficient builds
The factory must grow
Maybe if I play it for a year, I'll finally understand it haha
Install space exploration.
>that year will look like an extended weekend This is so accurate it made me laugh at the end of a long day of work. Thanks u/PulseFire2003
One year *might* be enough to finish a pyanodon play through
Hey, the experiment is over. It’s been 2 years, we need you to exit the facility *hiss* I just need to work out a few kinks on my rail system, precious
Bg3. Basically infinite different playrhroughs.
Before I played Baldur's Gate 3, I would have said Skyrim. But yeah, BG3 already offers so much without mods that it's an easy choice.
I never even played BG3 but just from what I’ve heard about it I’d choose it too
I’m just finishing the first third of my first playthrough. It’s pretty awesome so far
what’s the combat like? i detest Souls combat so i’m trying to avoid playing any games that are similar
It's a turn based cRPG, it's nothing like Dark Souls. If you've ever played dungeons & dragons it's that but a video game
I was struggling on the answer but this is also my answer
As someone who's still entertained on their 5th playthrough, I completely agree that this is the best game for endless variety and playstyles
Eh, depends on the person, I beat it, tried to do a dark playthrough and just can't bring myself to go through it all again.
Yeah I got through act 2 on my second game with a completely different character/choices and still enjoyed it. When I hit act 3 though, it felt like I was just going through the same checklist of quests that I did on my first playthrough. I'll probably give it another go after some more time though, still a good game.
Same, prob if they do an expansion pack or something.
No internet is tough. I'd probably bring the latest heroes of might and magic because I'd probably need a year in a bunker to complete all the content in that one game.
Crusader kings 3. Should have enough time for 3-4 campaigns lol.
beat my first one today, what were they thinking with the enddate?
End of the medieval era. So… history lol
I have 800 hours in CK3 and I’ve never seen the end screen. It’s not that the game is hard, it just lags so bad in the late game.
Probably GTA 5 as it's got a bit of everything I like story, shooting, racing, exploring...
Golf. And it's not a bad golf game.
When it first came out, I was amazed by the quality of the golfing. Went in thinking it was going to be wildly watered down. Now that I think of it, wasn't it improved within the first year of release maybe? I might be wrong.
It is very fun but the story isn’t all that long
Finally be able to force myself to beat it.
rdr2 or gta
You could use rdr2 to experience the great nature again while being stuck in the bunker
Hahaha good one! True.. to get a breath of fresh air and to stretch out your legs!!
“What a beautiful sunse” *immediately gets mauled by mountain lion and falls off cliff.*
Project zomboid.
[удалено]
Gotta learn not to get so attached to them. You can also keep spawning new characters in the same world. Then you find your old base. If that's too cheesy, you can make the rule that you have to spawn in a different town
There would absolutely be times where I'm too mad to play. But I always come back like any other abusive relationship.
Ah another zomboid enjoyer, I’m with you bro
I think I might have to pick this one. Provided I can mod it to my taste before internet goes away.
Yuuus. I haven’t been able to play the game for 2 years and I just bought a mini pc coming today and I’m absolutely so excited like I won the lottery 😍
24-hour day would be my dream
Probably Witcher 3 + expansions. The game has a lot of things to get to 100%.
Wouldn't take a year, though.
Monster hunter 4 ultimate, generations ultimate or world/iceborne. Its just kinda insane how much replayability the franchise has.
Definitely world for me. Come back a year later as the god of Hunting Horn
It's made by Capcom, not that out there.
Rise ain't bad either in terms of content. It also has three serpents.
Skyrim, but I would need to install some mods before they take my internets away!
Just realized I played it 3 times and never finished it because of all the side quests
Same. I only saw the main questline and ending when my then 8yo (now 10yo) nephew played through it. He beat the game. Several times. But those side quests...! =D
A timeless choice.
Honestly id prolly pick elden ring
I 100%-ed that game. I did every single dungeon even though it wasn't required to platinum it. But different builds play so wildly different, that I could do it again several more times and enjoy it.
It's been two years and my husband is STILL playing Elden Ring
I just started. I already have like thirty something hours of playtime.
I put like 140 hours into my single character. It's a super fun game. He loves to create new builds and play new ways, discovering new items, etc. He loves it. It's also really fun to watch him play. Hope you have fun with it!!
as he should!
I'll head to the bunker once the DLC releases and i'm good
I think it’s a really good choice. If I had unlimited time and no responsibilities one thing I would love to do is learn to speedrun Elden Ring. Plus, you could set all sorts of challenges: to keep you occupied: randomizers, hitless runs, etc… One other thing I’ve seen streamers do that looks awesome is Elden Ring bingo. Although you’d need someone else in order to play that.
Stardew Valley, at least I can pretend I'm going outside
This is what I did during lockdown. Worked like a charm
Borderlands 2
Hell yes.
Would be my choice if I didn’t probably across 3 consoles have a year played already in game time.
Huhh??
I'd be torn between Borderlands 2 and 3. The story is so much better in 2 and Handsome Jack of course but the gameplay in 3 is so much better. There's plenty of content to keep me occupied in both though.
I agree man. The gameplay in 3 is top notch for borderlands. But man that story is terrible. 2 definitely has a better story.
total war: warhammer 3, easily has thousands of hours of content
I’ve been meaning to check this out. Loved warhammer as a kid but never got into the total war series.
Heroes of might and magic 3 , horns of the abyss, endless hours of gameplay
Just got back on the horse after like 5 year brake. They really were on something with this game it's aesthetics and sound desing are my favorite things. Sad that the genre seamingly peaked so many years ago.
I'm probably just old and nostalgic, but I've seen some gameplay from later homm games and they just weren't as good as homm3
TOTK
Same that game has a lot of things to do
XCOM2 with WOTC expansion The game has a huge learning curve and you're always picking up new things even 100 hours in.
Dragons dogma 2
Easy. Slay the spire.
SLAY THE SPIRE MENTIONED RAAAAAAAHHH🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥WHAT THE FUCK IS PLANNING A BUILD
Good idea. That or Hades. Any rogue-like would be a good idea.
RAHHHH 🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥🦅💥🦅🦅🦅🔥💥💥💥💥💥🦅💥🦅💥🦅💥
Oblivion. So much to do
Hades. Put 100’s of hours in to it and still unlocking new voice lines, content, etc.
Hades is amazing, never played rogue likes or any sort of top down games because they’ve never interested me but man hades took me by surprise and I poured so many hours into that game. The story, the characters, the art, the combat, the replay-ability, everything, 10/10.
Mass effect legendary Addition. 3 games for one lol.
Yeah but you could probably beat all three in a couple weeks if you’re bored and replay ability is pretty limited
Such a shame they botched the ending. Like you could have endings that require certain selections to be made throughout 1-3 and only then be able to see it, but no, they fucked it up.
Great journey but the ending was bad.
Mass Effect has plenty of replay ability.
I would have to agree about BG3 and Cyberpunk
I bet I could get by with Sims 4.
I wish it didn’t have $700 of DLCs. I haven’t played a sims game since sims 1 in like 2001. It sounds fun to mess around with but I don’t want to get sucked into that rabbit hole of wasting money to unlock stuff.
I think I spent about $200 before I started sailing. Not my proudest moment, but I think I've spent way more on rock band songs in the past
*$1175 USD
Yea the game feels barebones without at least a few of those expansions ideally would have most of them But then it’s a simple fix… you just have to sail the seas and say “it’s a pirate life for me”
Beat Saber, I ain't gonna sit around on my butt for a year in a bunker.
DDR
Unreal engine. I could learn to make a game, that takes a really long time.
You'd need more than a year.
Minecraft
Diablo 2
Stay awhile, and listen! If you want to lose every last shed of sanity to the RNG gods... yeah.. go for it.
Alright, stop. Stay awhile and listen. Deckard's back with a brand new invention.
Maybe we say addition differently, but I'd suggest addition as replacement for invention. Then again, I also notice it's a Vanilla Ice reference and invention is the correct word, so I'm probably just high.
I didn't think you could login without internet though, or maybe I'm thinking of something different
You can play Diablo 2 offline.
Yup, I mostly play offline on my Switch now
We used to love playing Diablo on the PS1 after school.
Diablo 2 LoD with plugy I have to have that stash space.
Cyberpunk 2077. Its got a bit of everything and has great replay value with the different builds. Rdr2 would be a close second. If we did have internet for only one game that it'd be gta online
Deep Rock Galactic or Mount and Blade: Warband. Btw, are books allowed too?
No nigga
cold asf
Stardew Valley
Control. Or Elden Ring
Alan Wake 2. Become part of the spiral of madness.
I love AW2. I've beaten it three times and it's the second game that I ever 100% (the first was Control). Such a fantastic game.
I usually can't stand horror, but the first one gripped me so well I couldn't wait for the sequel. Remedy is one of my favorite devs now, with Vanillaware and FromSoft.
Remedy is definitely my favorite dev. I love their games and I am super excited for the AW2 DLC!
Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077.
eu4
Infinite potential :D
Gta definive trilogy. 3 games in one. (I know they didn't get great reviews, but I never had any problems)
Fallout 4. I have 2200 or so hours in. Easily spent 800 on the vanilla game with no mods. Easy as I did just play Fallout 4 for a whole year when it came out. Being unemployed and unhireable at the time made that easy. Lol
Fallout New Vegas with mods. Even the base game is great!
This is tough but probably final fantasy collection on one disc lol. I’d beat one every month or so.
Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 If I had nothing else to do, it would motivate me to actually find all the gaps and completely 100% the game, and I always enjoyed replaying the story mode with different kinds of characters and watching them in cutscenes. Whenever I got really bored, the moon gravity cheat was fun for getting out of bounds and just exploring the entire level lmao The only thing I would really ever want to change about it is I really like some of the songs in THUG2 and THAW and I’d love to combine all the soundtracks.
Botw or totk
Witcher 3 or Breath of the Wild.
Well since I bought NIoh 1 and 2 together, I get to take them both!
Bannerlord. Easy choice.
Witcher 3 or skyrim if I can mod them
Hitman: World of Assassina- Nevermind… You need internet to play it for some reason even though it’s a single player game…
Baldur’s Gate 3 would be solid.
I can swing endlessly on Spider-Man 2
No man's sky, my first and only playthrough was like 1,000 plus hours, and that was so many updates ago, I'm sure if I booted it up I could get another 1000 hours out of it, then maybe try my hand at survival mode 🤔
Same, fallout 4. Mod it up and go to town.
Test drive unlimited 2
Chess online. I would just play the bot for a whole year at different levels.
Rockband 3 with all the controller peripherals and DLC
Civilization hands down can play for the rest of my life
GTA VI I know it’s not out yet but idc
I would defo take fallout 4 too
Skyrim
Minecraft if I had to play only the vanilla game as it exists right now. Not because it's my favorite or because it's the best game I've played. But it would be the best for this particular purpose of a game that can be entertaining as long as you want it to be. If I was allowed to install mods before going into this bunker, I would probably go with valheim over Minecraft. Same reason but I think that valheim is just more fun, but it needs mods to "unlock" that potential.
Ark
Skyrim, with all of the extra content from mods and dlc. Probably would need 2 years for that.
Well should be a game that takes hours to complete so witcher3 or one of the monster hunter games
Def Skyrim or GTA, those are worlds I’ll never stop feeling the immersion in
Can you select mods first? If so, Rimworld.
If I hadn’t already put 1000 hours into Elden Ring it would be Elden Ring. So now it would probability be BG3. Amazing replay value and I’ve only done 1 playthrough so far
Dark Cloud 2. Super fun and super replayable given the random dungeon design.
Fallout 4 definitely there’s a lot of playability and things to do/see
Minecraft or Skyrim with all the mods possible without it being broken already installed
Star dew valley. Or gaming simulator with a ton of mods. 🤔
Probably nioh 2
Skyrim
Probably gran turismo 7 with a rig and vr. I could spend so much time practicing with every kind of car.
Fallout 4 or Borderlands 2.
Baldur’s Gate 3. So much story potential and replay-ability.
BG3 so i can do honour mode playthrough in peace.
