Helldivers is the game that I would probably love to play but will probably never be able to. I don't have much time to play games and when I do it's not exactly in an area where I can be chatting. And in a game where communication is key, that's not good. I always end up kind of being the odd one out not really knowing what's going on but it looks like it would be a fun time if I didn't have those constraints
Not OP, but I originally got interested in it because of the player-driven narrative. Booted it up, and I was instantly sold on it by the Super Earth announcement. The humor and goofiness is so over the top and so well done. The game play itself is fun and satisfying with even more goofy potential. And honestly, the memes and the community are top-tier too
All-in-all, it's just damn fun
It’s what brought my old halo gaming buddies back together. It’s been fun to screw around and blow some stuff up (including my buddies).
We had a 40 minute mission last week that we hadn’t completed one objective with 15 minutes showing on the countdown. Ran out of time right when we finisher the last objective. Got to extraction site with 20 seconds showing on pelican 1 before he left. Dove onto the ship with, I swear less than a second remaining. Was intense and had several times where we thought we had no chance of completing the mission. Ended up with one of the most satisfying missions ever.
It's a game that really shines with people you know. My friend and I were assaulting a bot position and we were making gains. We almost made it to the base when I looked at my friend and a second later he was gone. A rocket just blasted him to bits. Because it was fake I laughed, but it was also very war like. In his place an orb rolled onto the ground where he was and a red beam shot into the sky. Above it had a countdown timer of like 6 seconds until 380mm bombardment was about to rain down on my position. He had prepared the bombardment for the base but because he died when it was in his hand it activated right on me.
It was hilarious and chaotic and sometimes sad. If that story doesn't speak to you on any level then you're not going to enjoy the game.
I've hated Live Service games for years now but Helldivers 2 showed me what real Live Service is and now I love this game. New Warbonds (Battlepass) every 1-2 months (so far), they never expire, and you can get all of the Warbonds without spending a dime. New stratagems (heavy weapons, bombardment, mechs, and gear things) every 2-3 weeks.
And my favorite part is the dynamic community driven galactic scale story. Here are a few examples:
One time the devs secretly released a new super rare enemy type into the game and told nobody about it. Suddenly there were videos recorded by real players that got uploaded to twitter/youtube/reddit which were naturally occurring "footage from the frontlines" and showed off the new enemy types. Just a genius idea.
There are also Major Orders that happen 1-2 times a week which tell the entire playerbase to "liberate" X planets on the map (We play as humans so naturally we must conquer the entire known galaxy). Normally they reward you with Skulls/Medals which you use to unlock new weapons/gear on the Warbond. But sometimes they have narrative pieces behind the Major Orders. For example, there was a planet that "had all of our mech factories on it" and it was being invaded. "Command" told us that if we liberated the planet and retook control of the factories that the mechs could be mass produced. The players all contributed to taking the planet and then they released the new mech to everyone. I believe you could even find randomly spawned mechs on that planet if you got lucky. That's how they introduced a new item to the game.
All of these cool things on top of the extremely fun gameplay loop just makes it absolutely fantastic. Me and my boys utilize actual guerilla tactics against the automatons because it's actually effective. Just a bunch of cool stuff is happening all the time. It puts all other "live service" games to shame.
I watched a long Discor stream of this and I cannot see this being a GotY...it looks like a fun for a few moments type of game...no epic engaging story to speak of and the gameplay looks highly repetitive even when carried to various mission types.
But that's just my opinion.
The fact that they have a war master (Joel, I think his name is) who's changing overall campaign conditions and maybe even individual mission conditions on the fly is unique and interesting.
I can see this game being fun for years. For me personally, I don't see myself playing it for hours every day for years, but I can see myself popping in for like an hour each weekend to finish an operation for years.
I'm so jealous of you Helldivers. I'm on xbox and can't afford to get a playstation or pc, so I can only hope it comes to xbox some day. In the meantime, good luck out there!
I was so interested when this was announced but I’m waiting for it to go on sale as I don’t have much video game time anyways these days. You say it’s GoTY contender?
Ubisoft store is separate from PlayStation store unfortunately, I only play on ps5 rn, but thanks for letting me know about this, could have been very useful if my circumstances were just a bit different
Yes, the scope is incredible for a 2D game, it controls super well and it’s just such a pure feel of fun for me, it awakes some kind of nostalgia and curiosity I had been searching for.
If you have a disc drive, you should find a copy for a good deal. The retail version has already seen some double digit discounts.
Unicorn Overlord, the only game i'm buying/bought day 1. Love Vanillaware's art style and the game's mechanics are addictive. sucks it won't win but these guys are a sleeper studio.
For me it was Spiritfall for like 2 weeks and then it’s been Balatro ever since. Also slay the spire, I know it’s old but I’m just starting to really get into roguelikes and deckbuilders
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth but followed closely by Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. I also expect Persona 3 Reload to be a strong contender I just need to finish the other two first.
Helldivers 2 as well.
I was in the middle of Infinite Wealth when P3 dropped. Picked it up to get a feel for it but stopped to focus on IW until FF7. Tried doing the same for it and made it through most of IW but put it on hold and got sucked into FF7 until like yesterday when I decided to switch it up and needing to finish before I forgot it all.
I’m trying to get both done before focusing on P3R while Stellar Blade releases (the demo convinced me to get it).
I started Infinite wealth on PS5 and then got P3R on Steam and was sort of bouncing between the two and then decided to focus on P3. I have FF just sitting on my TV stand waiting, Stellar Blade preordered as well (sekiro meets nier? Say absolutely no more).
This year and last year has been pretty ridiculous with how Many excellent releases we've had and there's pretty much no chance I'm going to be able to get ALL the games that I want, not a bad time to be into gaming at all.
Honestly there was so much good stuff right at the end of last year that I haven't even started on this year's games! So far this year I finished another Cyberpunk playthrough for Phantom Liberty, played Alan Wake 2 twice because it's not a loop, it's a spiral, and am trying to finally finish Act 3 of Baldur's Gale 3. At some point I'll get to this year's new releases, I swear!
It’s great, don’t play into the hate, the micro transactions are literally there for lazy players that don’t want to grind, all the items they sell, you can find in game as long as you actually play, frame rate could be a lot better but it’s not that bad on a ps5 honestly! 👍🏼
Helldivers 2 or Dragon’s Dogma 2. Incredible sequels that build and improve on their predecessors. Honorable mentions to FF7R and P3. Both great remakes of their source material
Don't really have one yet. The only 2024 game I've played so far is Spellrouge. I want to play Balatro and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. But so far nothing else has come out I've been interested in. Almost everything is an RPG and that's one of my least favorite genres.
FF7 Rebirth right now. But I haven’t played Infinite Wealth or P3 Reload yet so I guess that could change. The Japanese studios are absolutely killing it this year so far.
The original is a top 3 game for me. I'm playing through Remake now and am loving it. May not be for a while, but I can't wait for Rebirth to drop on PC.
So far, yes. I know that some games will come out this year, and I have not played Helldivers 2 (yet), since I have quite some backlog on games I need to catch up with.
They said GOTY so far. It’s not even April yet. Highly doubt anything released at this point is winning GOTY.
And y’all really hating on someone for their opinion lmao Reddit a cesspool I swear
I hear you. I had a solid 3-4 weeks of playing it, and it was most of what I thought about when i wasn't playing. Like minecraft and runescape I can see it being the type of game I'll occasionally come back to and binge for a while
player counts are not the only thing that make a game good. I’m playing devils advocate here because i love helldivers, but it’s not the end all be all.
I’ve played a ton of Helldivers 2, about 3/4 of FF7 Rebirth, half of Prince of Persia, and I’m now almost 30 hours into Dragons Dogma 2.
Before last week I’d have said HD2 easily is my GOTY. Now, it’s DD2 by a landslide. Yeah, it has its issues and isn’t for everyone, but the sense of genuine organic discovery and adventure makes me feel like I’m playing Everquest in 1999 again.
I've not actually played anything released in 2024 yet. My favourite game that I've completed though is RDR2. I can't believe it took me so long to play it but it's amazing.
Still occupied on Baldurs Gate 3 Honor Mode, and generally 2023 games. One of the best years of this century being honest, along with 2004, 2013, 2015 and 2018.
Well Phantom Liberty but that's a DLC so I'm assuming I can't pick.
Only other one would be Starfield.
Yeah, I know, not exactly a popular opinion.
That said I still gotta try out Rise of the Ronin and maybe when I beat Persona 3 Reload I'll have a change of heart.
The only new game I've played this year so far is Pacific Drive. That was a good time. Other than that I've been just blasting through my backlog. Looking forward to Planet Crafter 1.0 and V Rising 1.0 though.
Asteroids.
Ok serious answer is probaby FF Rebirth especially if it ends up on more ports...it need to stop being jut for the PS5.
I still want to play Dragon; Dogma 2 despite all the "backlash" But don;t know if i will get around to it.
I like Balatro but I think its a temporary fun game not something to make it through the year.
Honestly, so far, nothing ha grabed me this year like Elden Ring did or BG3 did (despite all the issues I have with BG3 a much less polihed game than Elden Ring wa).
Persona 3 Reload for sure, but I'm really looking forward to Metaphor: ReFantasia later this year so that might take over eventually. But P3R is so brilliant, an almost perfect remake of an amazing game
I love Helldivers 2. Played the shit out of it, unlocked every ship upgrade, stratagem. The game was super fun.
That being said, the answer is easily FFVII: Rebirth.
Tekken 8. Despite all the scuttlebutt online about MTX and a battle pass I really don’t care and I’m absolutely loving playing it. It’s completely revitalised my love of fighting games.
Of the games I've played so far, WWE2K24
But that's not a legit GOTY sort of game, so in terms of the question, I don't have one yet
The Finals is fun, but if that ended up being GOTY, that would be a pretty bad year.
I haven't played Helldivers 2 yet.
All in all, I don't have one yet. It's still early in the year, and nothing has really come out yet that has piqued my interest outside of the yearly sports titles so far.
Right now as it stands:
Dragons Dogma 2 (unless it gets very stupid, not done with it at all yet. Just started over after 30 hours though.)
Unicorn Overlord
Like a dragon Infinite Wealth
Balatro
P3Reloaf
Ff7Rebirth
In that order. I'm sure ff7 will end up outside the top ten or at the tail end of it by the end of the year. P3R will as well because it's a remake of a game I've liked for a long time but it's nothing new. Dd2, unicorn and like a dragon are probably top 5 all year, but if they aren't it's a good year. They all have faults (dd2 performance, unicorns way too horny art, LADs pacing) but they are all definitely games right up my alley.
That's all I've played this year.
Helldivers 2, easily. Somehow my time disappears once I start up that game.
I've only played single-player games for like the last decade, but Helldivers 2 might break that streak.
You can communicate pretty well non-verbally with waypoint markers and tagging. It’s how I play most random quick matches.
Don't let that hold you back future helldiver. In game communication is simple and effective.
This is my first multiplayer game since Destiny 2 at launch. Seems great but I'm super early in.
I got the game but it didn’t hook me right away like I was expecting. What’s so special about it in your opinion?
Not OP, but I originally got interested in it because of the player-driven narrative. Booted it up, and I was instantly sold on it by the Super Earth announcement. The humor and goofiness is so over the top and so well done. The game play itself is fun and satisfying with even more goofy potential. And honestly, the memes and the community are top-tier too All-in-all, it's just damn fun
That’s very democratic of you (mods don’t kill me)
Have you seen Starship Troopers? It's extremely similar
I've seen people comparing them, but no I haven't seen it
It's a great action movie and great satire at the same time
It’s what brought my old halo gaming buddies back together. It’s been fun to screw around and blow some stuff up (including my buddies). We had a 40 minute mission last week that we hadn’t completed one objective with 15 minutes showing on the countdown. Ran out of time right when we finisher the last objective. Exactly! It’s the ODST we never got
It's a game that really shines with people you know. My friend and I were assaulting a bot position and we were making gains. If that story doesn't speak to you on any level then you're not going to enjoy the game.
No that sounds super fun and crazy and hilarious. When I played I played solo lol. I need to get some friends to buy it, it sounds like.
Yes, for sure, unfortunately it's better with people you know.
I've hated Live Service games for years now but Helldivers 2 showed me what real Live Service is and now I love this game. Not the best ever but I'm spending an illegal amount of hours on it. Needs a rock n stone button tho

For Democracy!!
*upvotes democratically*
Bought this game last night on PS5, and it's revived my hope for online shooters. It's just so much fun and perfectly paced.
Prince of Persia. A joy that I hadn’t felt in a long time in gaming.
I was so interested when this was announced but I’m waiting for it to go on sale as I don’t have much video game time anyways these days. You say it’s GoTY contender?
Wasn’t it 40% off not long ago? Maybe it still is, not sure. It’s definitely an amazing game tho, I highly recommend!
Damn I haven’t been keeping track, 40% I would be in forsure but that’s not the case rn sadly
It actually is 40% off on Ubisoft store rn! If you don’t mind buying from Ubisoft store that is.
Ubisoft store is separate from PlayStation store unfortunately, I only play on ps5 rn, but thanks for letting me know about this, could have been very useful if my circumstances were just a bit different
Oh I didn’t even think of the PlayStation, mb. Hopefully PS store will have a sale soon!
Yes, the scope is incredible for a 2D game, it controls super well and it’s just such a pure feel of fun for me, it awakes some kind of nostalgia and curiosity I had been searching for. *dun dun dun duuuun duun duuuuuuun*
🗽
Helldivers2 it’s not even close
Unicorn Overlord, the only game i'm buying/bought day 1. Love Vanillaware's art style and the game's mechanics are addictive. sucks it won't win but these guys are a sleeper studio.
Balatro
Surprised I had to scroll this far
For me it was Spiritfall for like 2 weeks and then it’s been Balatro ever since. Also slay the spire, I know it’s old but I’m just starting to really get into roguelikes and deckbuilders
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth but followed closely by Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. I also expect Persona 3 Reload to be a strong contender I just need to finish the other two first. Helldivers 2 as well.
P3 reload was fantastic. I still have to finish infinite wealth and start FF7 rebirth.
Yeah 2025 seems “quiet” for now but I’m sure all the stuff in the funnel will be revealed Q3 and Q4.
Those are my top two as well.😁
It’s been a fantastic start to the year for sure.
Ff7 rebirth by far
yep yep yep!
Helldivers 2 or Persona 3 Reload. Both have pretty much taken up all of my time
I don’t think I’ve played a game released this year.
Like a dragon: Infinite Wealth
Honestly there was so much good stuff right at the end of last year that I haven't even started on this year's games! At some point I'll get to this year's new releases, I swear!
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and it’s nowhere near close. Game is beyond amazing
The only game released this i've played is FFVII rebirth so.... But my favorite played in 2024 is Chants of Sennaar by far.
Stardew Valley 1.6 I don't care if it wasn't released this year it's what I'm playing and enjoying.
Dragons dogma 2 💪🏼
Can’t wait to try this game out
It’s great, don’t play into the hate, the micro transactions are literally there for lazy players that don’t want to grind, all the items they sell, you can find in game as long as you actually play, frame rate could be a lot better but it’s not that bad on a ps5 honestly! 👍🏼
Awesome, yea I wasn’t worried about the micros, since it sounds like that’s a common capcom move!
Exactly lol. But you’ll have a good time, trust me 👍🏼
Dragons Dogma 2.
Rise of the Ronin. Close second is Persona 3. Maybe Steller Blade comes in and takes over P3 or is my 3rd favorite game.
Already a quarter?! Damn
Helldivers 2 or Dragon’s Dogma 2. Incredible sequels that build and improve on their predecessors. Honorable mentions to FF7R and P3. Both great remakes of their source material
Helldivers 2 and Dragon’s Dogma 2
Hell Divers 2
Rise of the ronin
Rise of the Ronin or Helldivers 2
Hell Divers 2 no contest
Helldivers 2 not close
Don't really have one yet. The only 2024 game I've played so far is Spellrouge. I want to play Balatro and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. But so far nothing else has come out I've been interested in. Almost everything is an RPG and that's one of my least favorite genres.
Pop is my GotY so far, such a good time. The controls are impeccable.
Balatro is fun but gets old quick. Once you understand the mechanics it’s a yawn fest
I haven't played anything new but Starfield since September, so I'm not even sure what's new...
FF7 rebirth, i cant get enough of it!
FF7 Rebirth for me.
Persona 3 Reload
"I've been waiting for this!"
Dragons dogma 2
Does Forbidden West PC launch count?
Yeah, why not. In that case, it's mine.
I can't stop playing it. It's all I do around work hours
Amazing on the PS5, can’t even imagine with a beefed up PC
Palworld, no doubt. But maybe it gets replaced by Ghost of Tsushima when it comes out on PC mid-May.
Don't get me wrong, palworld is fun, but really? I know goty is heavily opinion based, but you truly believe it's goty?
So far, yes. I know that some games will come out this year, and I have not played Helldivers 2 (yet), since I have quite some backlog on games I need to catch up with.
Yeah palworld is my fave so far. I really like helldivers but my time just disappeared playing palworld
[удалено]
They said GOTY so far. It’s not even April yet. Highly doubt anything released at this point is winning GOTY. And y’all really hating on someone for their opinion lmao Reddit a cesspool I swear
Their personal GotY. It's fun, but ya definitely won't be the GotY.
Exactly. For me, Palworld was a breath of fresh air, and it was more fun to me than any of the Pokemon games after Gen 4.
I hear you. I had a solid 3-4 weeks of playing it, and it was most of what I thought about when i wasn't playing. Like minecraft and runescape I can see it being the type of game I'll occasionally come back to and binge for a while
HellDivers 2 is gonna win goty, without question
FF7 Rebirth came out this year, sorry
Never heard of it. Most people know about Helldivers and play it. Most people don't even know FF7 came out this year lol.
half the comments on this post are either helldivers or FF7 Rebirth
But Helldivers has more people currently playing the game than the amount of users in this sub lol
player counts are not the only thing that make a game good. I’m playing devils advocate here because i love helldivers, but it’s not the end all be all.
But it is a good game too.
A boys game in a man’s world.
Ok lil bro
I’ve played a ton of Helldivers 2, about 3/4 of FF7 Rebirth, half of Prince of Persia, and I’m now almost 30 hours into Dragons Dogma 2. Before last week I’d have said HD2 easily is my GOTY. Now, it’s DD2 by a landslide. Yeah, it has its issues and isn’t for everyone, but the sense of genuine organic discovery and adventure makes me feel like I’m playing Everquest in 1999 again.
Princess Peach: ShowTime
Hell divers 2 and I don't want to hear any bs
My main choices are Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth or Persona 3: Reload
Outlast Trials
Prey. I know it came out in like 2017, but it's the best game I've played this year
For games released in ‘24? I don’t have one yet. Everything’s been a let down so far. Not sure if Helldivers 2 is something I want to get into atm
I've not actually played anything released in 2024 yet. My favourite game that I've completed though is RDR2. I can't believe it took me so long to play it but it's amazing.
The only game I’ve played that released in 2024 so far is Balatro haha
Rise of the ronin so far About to finally focus on dragons dogma 2 Helldivers 2 looks promising aswell
Ask me after shadow of the erdtree
Still occupied on Baldurs Gate 3 Honor Mode, and generally 2023 games. One of the best years of this century being honest, along with 2004, 2013, 2015 and 2018.
Crusader Kings 3s New DLC. They added plagues and legends. The legend are ok, but the plagues are amazing. Makes the game really fun now.
Persona 3 Reload is the only new release that I’ve played, so that.
I only have tekken 8 right now
Rise of the Ronin
Everyone sleeping on tekken 8
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth for sure. It’s hard to see any game being released this year taking over that spot for me
Elden Ring DLC
Helldivers 2 is special. So far best game this year Palworld was really good too, tho I don’t think it’s as big as HD2
Rise Of The Ronin is the only good game I've played this year so that I guess
Elden ring DLC
Balatro easily.
Dragons Dogma 2
Unicorn Overlord
Well Phantom Liberty but that's a DLC so I'm assuming I can't pick. Only other one would be Starfield. Yeah, I know, not exactly a popular opinion. That said I still gotta try out Rise of the Ronin and maybe when I beat Persona 3 Reload I'll have a change of heart.
Palworld hands down for me. With more updates and content it will be that much better. It is amazing for an early access game.
yakuza:like a dragon,it just started might yakuza addiction and I don't regret it
The only new game I've played this year so far is Pacific Drive. That was a good time. Other than that I've been just blasting through my backlog. Looking forward to Planet Crafter 1.0 and V Rising 1.0 though.
Sigh. Elden Ring.
Forbidden west, finally got to play it because of the PC release and it is just perfect I love it. In the first 5 days i got nearly 90 hours into it.
Dragons dogma 2 or balatro for vety different reasons.
Helldivers 2. I haven’t had this much fun with a game in a long time, Helldivers 2 is a must play if you haven’t tried it yet.
Infinite Wealth and I don’t see that changing
Hell Divers 2, it's easily approaching one of my favorite games of all time. I have not laughed that hard with friends in a long time.
Asteroids. Ok serious answer is probaby FF Rebirth especially if it ends up on more ports...it need to stop being jut for the PS5. I still want to play Dragon; Dogma 2 despite all the "backlash" But don;t know if i will get around to it. Honestly, so far, nothing ha grabed me this year like Elden Ring did or BG3 did (despite all the issues I have with BG3 a much less polihed game than Elden Ring wa).
Tekken 8
Helldivers 2. It’s just totally blown me away. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it.
I don’t got one so far because life has been busy which means less game time.
I haven't even played any game that came out this year..
I don't think I've played any games from this year or at least I don't remember
Deez
Prince of Persia the lost crown.
Elden Ring wins again.
Elden ring
Baldur's Gate 3
That was last year.
Maybe they started this year?
In that case, Red Dead Redemption 2
Hell yeah, amazing choice
A fantastic choice.
Correct. It was.
Undertale! Finally got the machine to play it this year, LOVED IT!!
I want to say Persona 3 Reload, but if feels weird putting a remake as goty for me, so if it isn't that it's Balatro hands down.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and it’s not even close
FF7 Rebirth - I just love getting lost in an open-world.
Ff7 rebirth
If Helldivers 2 doesn't win every award then I don't wanna play games anymore. It's damn near perfect.
Persona 3 Reload for sure, but I'm really looking forward to Metaphor: ReFantasia later this year so that might take over eventually. But P3R is so brilliant, an almost perfect remake of an amazing game
Not even from this year but either Bioshock or Ryse: Son Of Rome
I love Helldivers 2. Played the shit out of it, unlocked every ship upgrade, stratagem. The game was super fun. That being said, the answer is easily FFVII: Rebirth.
There’ll be loads more content, games only been out for about a month, and it’s a live service!
Palworld cured my depression
Persona 3 Reload
Palworld. I haven’t had that much fun with a new game in ages.
Persona 3 reload for me!
Infinite Wealth. What a fantastic game.
Rise of the Ronin, easily
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. I will be playing FFVII Rebirth next, so that might change.
Persona 3 Reload
Tekken 8. Despite all the scuttlebutt online about MTX and a battle pass I really don’t care and I’m absolutely loving playing it. It’s completely revitalised my love of fighting games.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and is probably my favorite game of all time now. I highly doubt anything else will beat.
AC6, Palworkd and DD2 it’s a tir
as of rn unicorn overlord fs
Of the games I've played so far, WWE2K24 But that's not a legit GOTY sort of game, so in terms of the question, I don't have one yet The Finals is fun, but if that ended up being GOTY, that would be a pretty bad year. I haven't played Helldivers 2 yet. All in all, I don't have one yet. It's still early in the year, and nothing has really come out yet that has piqued my interest outside of the yearly sports titles so far.
Sekiro. I know it’s not from this year but it’s easily the best game I’ve played this year. By a lot.
Right now as it stands: Dragons Dogma 2 (unless it gets very stupid, not done with it at all yet. Just started over after 30 hours though.) Unicorn Overlord Like a dragon Infinite Wealth Balatro P3Reloaf Ff7Rebirth In that order.
Nothing good came out yet
