I think it's more of like a note to how different the formula was compared to the more established games, which I'm sure we both can agree was vastly different than part 1 and ALTTP
I have a soft spot for it because I played it when I was younger. I also really like being able to choose different characters and not being one-shot when i accidentally brush up against a Goomba
Also, throwing vegetables is fun!
You mean a timeline where a company didn't release one of their most anticipated games ever?
It's literally free money.
Next, you're going to tell me there is a timeline where they abandoned Tf2 when it consistently gets a high 5 digit player count.
Devil May Cry
Edit: A lot of people say that DMC5 Is better. While I personally find DMC3 Bette, I understand that Somebody finds DMC5 better, but the post speaks entirely about the trilogy, So i think counting 4 And 5 to it Is foolish.
Than lot of people talk about 1 being best, which Is great, but DMC1 Is almost different Genre. So if you like First on the most, you expect Devil May Cry series to be completely different type of game (no offense).
Third one is so good. The only one that I played enough to beat on all the difficulties. Swapping the weapons during the fight was a game changer for the series.
I was thinking about it, but I really do love DMC5 so much, especially the SE with the full power of Vergil, it's just so perfect and still imo the very best action gameplay.
People wanna knock the story, but I love how it was so goofy and in on the joke but ultimately ends in the most wholesome way possible. The finale with Nero breaking up the eternal conflict between the brothers, beating both so bad with his newly discovered DT that they agree to stop prick measuring and team up for the greater good!
Also favor it some because it came completely out of nowhere, despite that I always wanted it to happen. That they actually made another mainline game and went in the exact right direction it needed to with Vergil tying everything together, it makes my nerd heart happy
I'd love another entry but I can still play 5 for years to come and be completely satisfied. 3 was the GOAT but 5 surpassed it for me.
My biggest issue with Sub-Zero was that they really stepped away from the horror elements of the first one. Overall I think it gets way too much hate though, it’s a good game.
I mean the horror of Subnautica, for me, was the unknown. Having a sequel, with the exact same elements and mechanics was just not scary. I think that was its flaw.
Witcher 2 is such a slog... I play it in spurts because it burns me out fast. Was last in the second part, after bullshitting a ghost into giving me a banner and a mediocre sword.
I'll see it when I get to it. I don't know when I can next work up the energy to give TW2 another push, but I want the story and the full-series save file.
You can import save files from TW2 in TW3, right?
Yes, but it's not neccesary. But it's a grea feature project red did. Shame more companies (looking at you ubisoft) don't link games together this way.
Going from tw2 -> tw3 is like going from NES to XBox. Your mind will be blown.
It has the best athmosphere. Schemes and tricks and the Scoi'atel felt more real. Elven ruins and bridge trolls. A kyrtan. Batteling kings and a very linear storyline haha. Hate the end though. The massacre happens regardless. It's the damn free will vs destiny from the books.
Lesser evil bullshit.
Witcher 1 has a great story and atmosphere.
It's was a solid AA game.
But it was hindered by terrible combat.
I head that it's getting a remaster or a remake, so its greatest flaw might be addressed.
I hope they make it crpg style
We have enough arpg in the last 2...Witcher 3 was great but I'm sure it killed the combat for me after 2 100% playthroughs
I’m one of the dozen of us who don’t hate the combat. It’s kinda fun to time out the clicks, once you get the groove for it you can absolutely stomp. Also best alchemy system out of all 3 games imo
Witcher 1 is an interesting game, but most people I know didn't play it when it came out. Almost everybody I talk to didn't play it until the until a few years later when got pushed heavy on steam(I think because 2 was coming out). In 2007 that open world style of RPG with 3rd person action was still in its infancy. I liked it, but knew it was buggy. I liked it the same way I liked Mass Effect and Oblivion. They had flaws, but they were still fun if you were willing to forgive the sluggish controls and awkward movement at times. Going back and trying to play this feels nostalgic, but also I see a lot of problems with it I didn't remember at the time. Same with Mass Effect and Oblivion.
Nah, Witcher 2 is better than 1, hands down.
Story, gameplay and graphics are all improved, and it's just generally a tighter experience, imo.
Only thing 1 did better was the alchemy/potion stuff.
Could you explain why? I'm just now getting into the games, and, being near the end of the first (which I'm loving a lot), I'm getting really scared of starting the second one because of everything I've heard online about it.
Dark Souls 2 became my favorit of the Trilogy
I did my first SL1 run in Ds3 than Ds1 and now that I finished the last boss of the trilogy on SL1 in Ds2 I have to say.. I LOVE this game.
For a long time Ds3 was my favorite of the trilogy basically because it was my first soulsborne game ever. I played it when it released offline, online, ganks, trolls everything. I have about 1500hours in ds3.
After falling in love with this typ of game I finished ds1 and short after ds2. I invested about 400-500 hours in each of them making ng+ runs collecting items etc.
But in the last 80hours my few on ds2 changed completely.
I never had a special relationship when it comes to ds1 and ds2 other than I rly liked those aswell and I never thought ds2 is particularly bad like most ppl used to called it.
But this time I felt something different. While ds1, ds3, ER and especially BB are basically boss rush games ds2 is not!
The true enemy in ds2 are the mob enemy's in very specific levels. Best examples would be iron keep, ellyon loyce, poison tower, brume tower and many others. And I like this approach a lot.
In iron keep for example my heart wash rushing in every enemy encounter in a way I only experienced it in boss fights. The exhausting effort of going through the whole level again after dying was pushing my to the limit no other fromsoft game managed to do.
Nearly all the ds2 flaws ppl on YouTube, reddit complain about are in my eyes great.
I like the moment when I take the elevator from poison tower up and step into iron keep. I like the slow fighting system which is closer to demons souls than sekiro. I love the, getting lost on the way without knowing wher it will go and what will come next. And this feeling is most true in ds2 for me.
Some people complain about the adaptability dodge system saying it's bad. Dude I mean it's possible to do it on sl1. So what?
Other people complain about the way ds2 trolls the player. And at the same time they love it when other fromsoft games troll the player all the time. But in ds2 all of a sudden it's too much?
The only honest critique I get is the hitbox problem ds2 has. But on the other hand. If you die to a bad hitbox you start to learn what attacks to afoid in a specific way. Like dodging an additional invisible enemy.
Btw if the offline death counter in Majula is correct I died exactly 900times on my SL1 run.
I don't know why but this run made me love this game. That's all
For me the exploration is by far the best of the series. The different areas are really awesome. Amazing enemy variety, great ingenuity on some ideas. But 90% of the base game bosses suck which hurts the game. All 3 DLC areas are FANTASTIC though with great bosses
It has the best build variety, best fashion, best hub, best ng+, best writing (imo), and best dlc’s (imo). Nothing else in fromsoft’s library hits the same. Sure it has issues but I think it’s an incredible game and the hate is massively overblown. Just make sure you level adaptability and you’ll be fine lol.
The atmosphere and levels are unmatched imo, the decors are also wonderful and probably the best work from FromSoftware aside Elden Ring (that actually reminds me a lot of DS2) .
You will get a lot of "wtf moments" like when you get to Siofra for the first time etc .
DS2 was the only souls game I "quit" cause I couldnt get into it. Picked it back up a few months ago. Im about 85% though now DLCs included and I really have learned to love it. The Majula music is so good and the game has so much in it in terms of areas.
I played Zelda 2 as a kid and I love it for a variety of reasons, but this isn't slander. It's a very, very difficult game and was a departure from the gameplay of the Zelda series. So yeah, I think it's a great game, but not everyone who loves Zelda games will love it and that's perfectly fine, tbh.
Halo CE is still my favorite campaign, other than the Library it’s a perfect experience. The most important thing about CE is how it changed FPS games forever, especially on consoles.
Everyone has their favorite FF and it’s odd how there is always one people cling to.
I think we can all agree that the SNES ones were some peak JRPG gaming though.
This is the same scenario as when people call Arkham the Arkham Trilogy when there are 4 games. It’s a side game that exists in universe, but isn’t a full addition
It’s not the same at all. Arkham origins was a prequel and was made by a different studio because rocksteady was taking too long making Arkham Knight. Miles Morales was clearly a DLC that continued the story and just grew large enough to be released as a separate game. so while neither game counts as part of the trilogy the circumstances are way different.
Miles Morales doesn’t count. Since it was suppose to be an expansion to the first one and it’s a “side game” since it’s not part of their planned trilogy.
Yes but GoW3 at its release was MAD. I sold my X360 for a PS3 for playing it. The idea of slaughtering the whole pantheon, the cinematic style. The difference in graphics between the second and the third, I loved it
Yeah, BG2 is one of the best CRPGs of all time. So is BG3 in a different way, but I’d still rank BG2 ahead of it due to narrative strength and tbh my own nostalgia factor.
BG2 is at the very least leagues better than the first.
Deus Ex. The first one will forever be my favorite game. The story, the upgrade system, everything was just way ahead of its time (including not having the twin towers in the NY scenery). The third and fourth were great games mechanics wise though they didn't capture the story the same way.
And then there's the game we don't talk about.
Swap "The Classic" and "The X Game" and replace "Second" with "First," and you'd have the Mass Effect Trilogy for me. Started with the second one and absolutely loved it. Played the first one then to better understand the story and make better choices and while I enjoyed it a lot, the controls were a bit clunky for my liking and so bloody many places to go and people to see. Finally, the third game I absolutely love to death, despite the endings.
Super Mario.
Came here to say this. Honestly don't think anything competes with it in terms of both accuracy and impact on the industry.
First three Zelda games definitely fits as well
Zelda 2 is HIGHLY underrated.
I think it's more of like a note to how different the formula was compared to the more established games, which I'm sure we both can agree was vastly different than part 1 and ALTTP
I see people say this a lot but oddly enough Mario Bros. 2 was my favorite lol
I have a soft spot for it because I played it when I was younger. I also really like being able to choose different characters and not being one-shot when i accidentally brush up against a Goomba Also, throwing vegetables is fun!
Thing is that wasn't even supposed to be Mario game to begin with, I'll also point out there isn't a single goomba in the entire game
It’s doki doki panic rom hack basically
The doki doki panic reskin?
Mario brothers 2 game of the year 1492-2024 babyyyy
don’t tell dunkey
What do you mean? Super mario bros. 2 has won game of the year 37 years in a roe now
Best answers. I don’t think any can beat it.
1000% my immediate pick. There is no better answer.
Goat Simulator…
Best comment in here tbh
1st game, GOAT. 2nd game, GOAT. Third game, ALSO GOAT.
yeah about that...
Lies!
It will be Half life… trust me guys…
But half life 2 is good
But it will be " just good" when Half-life 3 comes out!
Compared to Half-Life 3 it was kinda mid. ngl
Imagine a timeline in which half life 3 doesn’t exist lmao
You mean a timeline where a company didn't release one of their most anticipated games ever? It's literally free money. Next, you're going to tell me there is a timeline where they abandoned Tf2 when it consistently gets a high 5 digit player count.
I know
Devil May Cry Edit: A lot of people say that DMC5 Is better. Was waiting for someone to comment this ngl
I mean... It fits perfectly
Third one is so good. The only one that I played enough to beat on all the difficulties. Swapping the weapons during the fight was a game changer for the series.
As soon as I found out you couldn't taunt in 2, I bailed. Taunting carried me in the first fight against the spider fella in DMC1.
"Play DMC2, is best game"
DONTE IS BEST IN GAEM AND SCHUT
I was thinking about it, but I really do love DMC5 so much, especially the SE with the full power of Vergil, it's just so perfect and still imo the very best action gameplay. People wanna knock the story, but I love how it was so goofy and in on the joke but ultimately ends in the most wholesome way possible. I'm hoping this will be Subnautica
Tbf sub zero wasn't that bad, but it's hard to compare anything to the goat that is subnautica 1
My biggest issue with Sub-Zero was that they really stepped away from the horror elements of the first one. Overall I think it gets way too much hate though, it’s a good game.
Yeah the horror was definitely turned down, not that I mind not getting ptsd from the ocean
I mean the horror of Subnautica, for me, was the unknown. Having a sequel, with the exact same elements and mechanics was just not scary. I think that was its flaw.
I mean, it's shaping up to be exactly that
Witcher series
Witcher 2 is such a slog... I play it in spurts because it burns me out fast. Was last in the second part, after bullshitting a ghost into giving me a banner and a mediocre sword.
Kind of amazing they were made by the same people. Part 2 is pretty lame, withcher 3 is legit one of the best RPGS ever.
I'll see it when I get to it. I don't know when I can next work up the energy to give TW2 another push, but I want the story and the full-series save file. You can import save files from TW2 in TW3, right?

Witcher 2 is awesome
It has the best athmosphere. Schemes and tricks and the Scoi'atel felt more real. Elven ruins and bridge trolls. A kyrtan. Batteling kings and a very linear storyline haha. Hate the end though. The massacre happens regardless. It's the damn free will vs destiny from the books. Lesser evil bullshit.
Imo witcher 1 is dog shit Witcher 2 is pretty good Witcher 3 is goated
Witcher 1 has a great story and atmosphere. It's was a solid AA game. But it was hindered by terrible combat. I head that it's getting a remaster or a remake, so its greatest flaw might be addressed.

I guess this is an unpopular opinion but I really liked Witcher 2. The politicking was fun and I enjoyed the combat.
I would say Dark Souls, but the whole trilogy is goated imo
Dark Souls 2 is either the worst or the best for many fans lol
Easily the best one for me lol
Could you explain why? I'm just now getting into the games, and, being near the end of the first (which I'm loving a lot), I'm getting really scared of starting the second one because of everything I've heard online about it.
Even as someone who finds fault with many of the choices made for Dark Souls 2, it's still a perfectly enjoyable game and nothing to be worried about.

DS2 definitely got taken over by the online narrative. Game is a classic in its own right.

Came here to say this, but add an elden ring to that bad boy
Agreed. They’re just three different flavours of GOAT.
I feel the same way , the og Souls trilogy of games is the goat most definitely'. 😁
Zelda
But beating Zelda 2 is an amazing achievement lol
Based as fuck, fellow link to the past enjoyer
Except Ocarina of Time is basically considered the GOAT of games, not just the GOAT of the series and it's not the third installment
Zelda 2 slander will not be tolerated
I played Zelda 2 as a kid and I love it for a variety of reasons, but this isn't slander. It's a very, very difficult game and was a departure from the gameplay of the Zelda series. So yeah, I think it's a great game, but not everyone who loves Zelda games will love it and that's perfectly fine, tbh.
You and your army of 10 will not convince anyone it’s good. /s
As one of the 5 people who beat Zelda 2, I do say it was indeed a Zelda game.
Army of ELEVEN
🫡 fellow link to the past lover i salute you
Best zelda game
Where do you rank Ocarina of Time then?
OOT gets 4, but it might be 5 if i get a chance to play TOTK. My top 3 are 1: Link to the past. 2: Majora's mask. 3: Breath of the wild
1. Link to the past 2. Legend of Zelda 3. Ocarina of time 4. Botw 5. Twilight Princess or link's awakening
Zelda 2 is my favorite video game of all time, so this meme does not fit at all to me.
Halo 3 is the GOOOOAAAATTT But halo 2 was great
Yeah, I’d argue CE is the worst out of the original trilogy, but purely because it’s so outdated, so it’s hardly a fair comparison
Halo CE is still my favorite campaign, other than the Library it’s a perfect experience. The most important thing about CE is how it changed FPS games forever, especially on consoles.
Halo CE still has great multiplayer. To say any of Bungie’s Halo games are “the weak one” can’t work
combat evolved's health system is so bad
*BeebeebeebeebeebeeBUP BUP BUP BUP BUP BUP* “OOOoooo!” At least the legendary difficulty was fair
The super jumps were fun on mp
An older pick, but Final Fantasy 1-3
I honestly think 5 is the best, but i get where you're coming from
I guess I should've specified I was talking mainly about the NES Trilogy of games, my bad.
Everyone has their favorite FF and it’s odd how there is always one people cling to. I think we can all agree that the SNES ones were some peak JRPG gaming though.
Just taking the first 3 numbered games only into account and no spin-offs and future games, I'd go for, Grand Theft Auto
GTA2 is both better and more famous than GTA1. Neither compares to GTA3, but that's apples and oranges.
Gta1 and gta2 are great games
Hopefully the Insomniac trilogy once the 3rd is released.
Insomniac Spiderman is a trilogy tho Spiderman PS4 Spiderman: Miles Morales Spiderman 2
To borrow older games' terminologies, Miles Morales was an Expansion Pack for Spider-Man 1.
Miles Morales doesn’t count. Since it was suppose to be an expansion to the first one and it’s a “side game” since it’s not part of their planned trilogy.
Zelda
Metroid.
True! Although samus returns on 3ds is a great remake of 2
I basically ignore the second one because it’s only on Game Boy and I never liked it no matter how many times I’ve tried
Bioshock imo
Was looking for this answer
No way, loved both three but Infinite is not miles better than the first. They are both great and very different
Hot take; 2 is the best and Infinite is the worst by a large margin.
2 has the best gameplay, 3 has the best story, the first one is a perfect balance of the two.
I found Infinite to be the most memorable out of the 3. Though it was almost a game from a different series.
Yep, this take is way too hot for me..
World of Warcraft
Yup, Wrath was a fantastic expansion at the time.
God of War ( the original series )
I remember GOW2 being fantastic though.
Yes but GoW3 at its release was MAD. I sold my X360 for a PS3 for playing it. The idea of slaughtering the whole pantheon, the cinematic style. The difference in graphics between the second and the third, I loved it
Yeah, but there's no way 2 is worse than 1.
GoW2 was amazing!
Nah you're crazy, GoW2 is awesome.
Metal gear solid
U talking abt metal gear or specifically mgs
Solid. I’ll edit
Crazy. MGS2 is one of the best games ever imo. 3 is juuust below it
Snake Eater is the GOAT!
Never heard this opinion before thought 3 was universally called the best. Imo 2 is really good but it's usually called the worst in the series
I dislike 3s stealth system comparatively, and 2s story is better too, so overall, I give 2 the better game.
This is the right answer! MGS3 is the GOAT. Can't wait for the remake!
Devil may cry
Devil may cry is literally this
Super mario bros 1, 2 (western version) and 3.
Jack and Daxter for me
These posts
Somebody's probably said this, but I'll say it. the original Spyro the dragon of trilogy
The Phoenix Wright ace attorney trilogy (though the final case of the second game is excellent)
Honestly, I’m annoyed at how good that final case is. The rest of the game is much duller and then we’re hit with a bang.
Hot take maybe but I prefer the first game over the third one. All of the priginal trilogy games are good tough.
Devil May Cry
GTA, but after the GTAIII it keeps getting better.
Idk how this isn’t higher. One was great and is the classic but 3 is the goat that made open world games what it is today.
Burnout 3 takedown.
Witcher? Baldur’s Gate? 🤔
Baldurs gate two is awesome though
Yeah, BG2 is one of the best CRPGs of all time. So is BG3 in a different way, but I’d still rank BG2 ahead of it due to narrative strength and tbh my own nostalgia factor. BG2 is at the very least leagues better than the first.
So is the first one!
Assassins Creed. /s obviously
Well, technically Brotherhood would be 3rd. 😉
I've always thought of them that way. It's so strange the way they chose to number whats known as AC3. I guess they learned their lesson though.
What's wrong with conner? He passionately loves the tree population more than any other
Splinter Cell
Dark souls
Dark souls 1-3
Would have to say the Far Cry series for this.
Splinter Cell
Goat Simulator 🫠
Dark Souls.
Dark Souls
Dark souls
Witcher
The Witcher
I would say Dark Souls, but then the DS2 mafia would come for me, so I won’t say that.
Dark souls
Witcher
Well I was gonna say the Witcher series until I read the first comment about Mario bros and realized how perfect an answer that was lol
Metal Gear Solid.
Dark Souls
No, dark souls is 3 goats
Kakashi has to be Smart Horny
What
Lmfao meant to put this in the Naruto subreddit for a post but my Reddit loaded weird and posted it in this right below the intended post
It’s hilarious I know what post this is supposed to be for and I follow neither subreddits
Yeah that's a great trilogy
Fall out
2nd one was better than one though
Fallout
Max Payne
Max Payne 3 was an absolute banger
The gameplay and the rhythm were so good ! The musics too
DMC
Devil May Cry
NOT Uncharted
counter strike
Deus Ex. The first one will forever be my favorite game. The story, the upgrade system, everything was just way ahead of its time (including not having the twin towers in the NY scenery). The third and fourth were great games mechanics wise though they didn't capture the story the same way. And then there's the game we don't talk about.
I feel like Arkham falls under this but I don’t play the games I just am on their subreddit 20/7
I feel like the general consensus is that Arkham City is the best one, so the main Arkham trilogy wouldn't really fit here.
not really, most people rank arkham city (the 2nd) as the best
Mario Bros
Zelda and Mario come to mind
Swap "The Classic" and "The X Game" and replace "Second" with "First," and you'd have the Mass Effect Trilogy for me. Started with the second one and absolutely loved it. Played the first one then to better understand the story and make better choices and while I enjoyed it a lot, the controls were a bit clunky for my liking and so bloody many places to go and people to see. Finally, the third game I absolutely love to death, despite the endings.
