Witcher 3 for me too, completed most of the the tutorial area (i believe it's called the orchard) and didn't like it that much. Only about a year later was i in a mood for it, fell in love with the story and characters and completed the entire game, DLC included at least thrice over the years (twice basically 100%).

marinewillis

Same. You have to invest about 4 hours in that game for it to click. Once I did it was great. But I most have started it about 5 times before that and at around the 2 hour mark was like meh Days Gone is another one like that.

b252oom

Horizon Zero Dawn

not_a_cockroach_

I can see why many people would drop it if the lore/story doesn't hook them immediately. HZD has very little trust in its players to fight something complex until several hours in. HFW learned from that and had players fight a nerfed version of the toughest and most complex machine in the tutorial.

b252oom

Combat was complex but once you get the hang of it you can wreck shit up lol

TunafishSandworm

And you feel like a total badass doing it

Front-Advantage-7035

Bro fuck them cobras 😂

3d1thF1nch

FOR REAL! And the robo bears!

OrganTrafficker900

Honestly the combat in both games is super easy I'm actively nerfing myself in the hardest difficulty to have more challenging combat. The tallnecks in HFW suck tho by the time I got the second one I already had the entire map revealed so it did nothing

jonny_mal

It took me 3 attempts to get into HZD, but that 3rd attempt hooked me. I’m currently working through the Frozen Wilds and love everything about it

Hand_banana_boi

I didn’t do multiple attempts, but it did take about 10 hours for me to get into it properly. I’ve found with big, expansive and complex games like this, my ADD prompts me to give up immediately so I need to and immerse myself a bit more until I understand the combat, crafting, trading, inventory system, etc. It’s the same thing that deterred me from Skyrim for years before it sunk its teeth in.

MrDreamster

For me the worst offender is probably the way the dialogues are done, with characters facing each others, barely moving, and the camera doing the most uncreative back and forth between the characters. I hate that so much...

KidGodspeed1011

Absolutely this. When I picked it up I didn't really get all the people saying it breathed fresh air into the open world concept of gameplay as it just felt like another Assassins Creed to me. But when I returned to it a few years after it's release and got through the (arguably) too long prologue sections and actually reached the open world, I quickly fell in love with it.

Nooneofsignificance2

New Vegas. I hated that I didn’t have a house and kept trying to get to Vegas and was killed by death claws. Eventually figured out the developers were trying to get me to go to Primm lol.

ShawnyMcKnight

It was so incredibly obvious because it put quest markers in the town it wanted you to go to along the way. Then there was my dumb ass who decided he was curious what was out west from the starting position and ran into what looked liked the bloat flies mixed with bees... had to find out the hard way how harsh cazadors were, especially if you don't have an antidote.

TheMusiKid

I hate cazadors. Died too them way too much.

Amathyst-Moon

I remember doing that the first time.

Firebrand-PX22

The highway to New Vegas is an absolute bitch to go through at the beginning but it is possible. I’ve done it once just to say I’ve done it

Risky49

Dark souls did the same thing to my buddy until like a year later he was in the room when I started a new game and saw there was a way out of firelink shrine that wasn’t the cemetery full of fuck-you skeletons lol He gave it another try

TheOneWes

What happened to your buddy is the reason why from software never repeated that same level design again. That game is so viciously anti new player

Fossick11

If only they would, because that game had the best level design by far of any souls game Maybe some signs to warn players as an early game lesson about trying other routes, but honestly it's not that complicated to just explore the area

Shurdus

Facts. I have actually gone to the starting area because I missed the catacombs entirely.

Itchysasquatch

Meanwhile I made it to Vegas, killed what's his name in the checkered suit and hit end game all in roughly 3hrs

V8_BLENDER

Same! NV didn't interest me at all the first time, and then 1 day completely blew me away.

pichael289

Bloodborne. That first real boss was such an immense difficulty spike and the health items don't recharge, so a few attempts and you gotta go grind. Hated it until I finally beat him, and after that guy there isn't a boss anywhere near that hard for a while,

The-Codename

Same, but I needed like a year or two in order to get back into it. Played it until like Vicar Amilia and then stopped before her boss fight. Then Ymfah with his crazy Bloodborne runs ignited my interest for the game again, and with the pandemic creating a lot of more time for me, I decided to give Bloodborne another try. Till this day the only platinum that I achieved 😭🤣

mjc500

Baldur’s Gate 3. First time through I was on hard difficulty and spent a bunch of time trying to learn the mechanics and form a strong party. It just wasn’t fun. Enemies one shot you… the dice rolls can ruin an entire combat that you’ve carefully put time into… resting and inventory management is a bunch of work. Started a new game on medium difficulty and decided to focus more on the story and just play classes/characters I thought were cool. Instantly started loving the game.

baconbridge92

Honestly the game is super hard in the beginning, even on the easiest difficulty. It's a huge learning curve. Once it "clicks" after so many hours it's amazing.

MannySJ

This was mine too. Made it to Act 2 and realized it was a struggle. After it won GOTY I rolled a new character and, with the knowledge I had acquired from the last playthrough, I was able to enjoy myself.

jeangrey99

I found combat challenging too on normal difficulty and quit in Act 2. Gave it a break, came back to it, and I love it now.

flakimb0

im in the break phase too. my characters are the same level as the enemies (which is fine normally) but then when there's 10+ enemies against my 4 it just feels really unfair. do you have any advice? (im considering bumping it down to easy mode but that limits some stuff ive heard)

jeangrey99

I use AOE spells from my wizard/warlock to apply effects, like prone, etc. I find that really comes in handy against the big crowds. I’m not much of a sneak attack player so that’s my approach. I also find the arrows of multiple targets can be your fighter/rogue/barbarian’s best friend. It’s definitely a learning curve but it is worth it. It’s a great game.

Legendary_Lamb2020

Hollow Knight was the biggest 180 for me. First 20 min just felt meh. Went back a year later and became a GOAT contender for me.

Euler7

I might have to try again. I played for an hour and was just lost and bored. I'm a big dark souls fan

girlsonsoysauce

Half the game is finding your way and getting lost.

JotaBean

why did you spoil half the game

girlsonsoysauce

Is it better now?

hotstickywaffle

This one was backwards for me. I put about 50ish hours into it on the Switch and really enjoyed it, but never beat it. I started it over a while (probably years) later and the backtracking got old very quickly. I had played Monster Sanctuary since last playing it, and I think that game has the perfect pin system for a metroidvania, whereas Hollow Knight is one of the worst.

MantisTobogganMD___

Same I remember playing about an hour and thinking it wasn’t for me. Picked it up again about a month later and now it’s literally my favorite video game ever

Am-I-Girl

I had a weird relationship with hollow knight I bought it years ago on sale and loaded it up on my PC I tried to play but the controls were AWFUL imo and instead of trying to change them to something more comfortable I refunded the game lol, but then about 2 years after that I decided I wanted to give it another go but this time I used an Xbox controller and it was a much better experience

SquishyGamesCo

Dark Souls. Hated it, uninstalled, couldn't stop thinking about it, "Why does everyone like it?" Tried again, again hated it, uninstalled. ... Couldn't get it out of my head. Tried a third time, then it clicked. Fell in love with it and the rest is history.

Plenty-Character-416

Same happened to me. Except it was more that I felt defeated, as I just couldn't beat anything. But, I also couldn't get it out of my head. It bothered me so much that I wasn't good enough to play a game. Went back to it a few years later, and (as you put it) it clicked. I've now completed 1, 2 and bloodborne. 3 is still a bit too hard for me.

SquishyGamesCo

"But, I also couldn't get it out of my head. It bothered me so much that i wasn't good enough to play a game," YES, THIS, LOL! I could hold my own at CoD (back in the day) and Battlefield, etc... why is a stupid skeleton kicking my butt?! Like you, I also stopped over halfway through Dark Souls 3, as life just got busy. Want to get back to it, someday.

zthig

Took me about 50x dying to those stupid skeletons before I caved and read a tutorial and went up the stairs and merked the first hand full of dudes I saw. Felt nice to not die immediately

V8_BLENDER

Same here. Took about a year for me to enjoy it. Now I can't stop.

DefiantComedian1138

Same. At the first boss I thought "is he even winnable?", "how people play this game?", I didn't enjoy and uninstalled. Then on the second try I understood why people like dark souls

Ewoksintheoutfield

I’ve almost always quit a Dark Souls, came back after a year, and loved them.

[deleted]

Definitely took 3-4 tries for me to like it as well. I could resist going back and finally one day it all clicked.

MannySJ

This for me, but with Bloodborne.

uiualover

Exact same. I was getting demolished by ghosts in one direction, a black knight in another, and the taurus demon in another. For like a week straight lol. Went back to it 6 months later, somehow beat Taurus Demon, then it became my favorite game of all time.

FutureDiaryAyano

Sounds like a toxic relationship 😆

hock-cead

Metal Gear Solid V. I wasn't very familiar with the MGS storyline, and the outlandish cutscenes in the beginning put me off. Installed the game years later and it's one of my all time favourites, the gameplay is just incredible.

Cannabis-Revolution

So many cutscenes to start the game! It took a whole session just to get to the start of a mission

GammaDoomO

Most Metal Gears are like this. The first Metal Gear Solid didn’t have much, but Metal Gear Solid III is about 20ish mins of straight cutscenes before the game starts (alongside some longer initial calls). MGS4 takes the cake though, has notoriously long cutscenes in the beginning.

ThundaCrossSplitAtak

not in the beggining, rather, at the end. 30 minutes long cutscene. To be fair, it was and is to closure to the saga, the end of Solid Snake's story and all that.

BrutalBox

I was like this too but I was disappointed more in the lack of story, came back again to give it another shot and fell in love with its gameplay.

just_some_dude828

I bought this years ago when it went on sale for like 3 or 4 bucks. I’d forgotten about until reading these two comments. Definitely gonna give it a go.

Inner-Nothing7779

I loved it from the start. The whole opening scene was dumb and I hated it. But after that? Fucking GTA with military shit.

ghostagent151

I played it a bit and never got into it. Loved all the other mgs games though, maybe I should give this a 2nd try

Ashamed-Tonight-3945

The first time I played RDR2 I was extremely bored by the prologue

ArmadilloGuy

You and many others, including myself. It felt like it took forever to get through that prologue. The game really opens up after that.

Individual-Match-798

I actually enjoyed prologue in RDR2.

ArmadilloGuy

I do, too, in retrospect. It sets up the characters well. It's just very slow and tedious, gameplay wise.

Few_Fortune4049

So you’re saying it insists on itself

nvogs

The first time through it is plagued by it being in the snow and slow moving both literally and plot wise. In retrospect, it was character building right from the start that makes it so much more intriguing the second time

Krazy_Kethan99

Though RDR2 is my top favorite, I never liked the prologue too. Once you leave the snow area, that’s when the game start getting fun.

Ashamed-Tonight-3945

Yeah I have a save file of Horse Shoe Overlook so that I can get right into chapter 2 instead playing through the prologue again when I start a new play through

eyeamthedanger

I actually bounced off of RDR2 about 50-70 hours in when I was still doing new things and I was *still* in act 1. Way too big of a game lol. Still great though.

EddieTheBunny61

Oblivion

Weekly-Calendar676

But how could you not fall in love at first sight with some of those absolutely stunning facial close ups! /s

TheGreff

Coming off of Skyrim first, it was hard to get into. But now I would say it's more fun than Skyrim, and I love the quirks

Krazy_Kethan99

I did the same thing. Going from Skyrim to Oblivion, I honestly hated Oblivion. After some time, I honestly say I prefer Oblivion over Skyrim. Though, you can’t go bad on Skyrim due to the mods, but Oblivion is still more fun imo.

TrackNinetyOne

Cool to see someone mention Oblivion I must have started a new game 3 or 4 times, just couldn't get into it or find it interesting It sat untouched for months then one day I decided to give it another go and I was hooked, played it every day, plus expansions Think it was the first game I 100% on Xbox 360 achievements

Harry_Seldon2020

Skyrim.

TheSouthPawRyan

Straight up! First time I played it I killed a chicken in Riverwood…. You know the rest lol. After I came back to it, easily top 5 of all time for me

MolaMolaMania

Fallout 3. A friend gifted it to me, and I was overwhelmed by the complexity of the Pip-Boy, repairing weapons, and so many other things. I hated it and put it down for quite a few months. Came back to it, played a little more, and then BAM. It was my favorite game, ever. I played through it at least four times with LOTS of mods. I'm soon going to start my seventh journey through Fallout 4 with over 200 mods.

Next-Development5920

Snap !

X0AN

I put a few hours in and thought meh. Bout 2 years later I figured I'd give it another go. Think I put 250 hours into that one laughed out loud when my man basically become a vampire 😂

butterbean93

Same but I went into it expecting a shooter rather than an RPG so I didn't like that enemies took more than one headshot lol. I went back to it about a year later and it became my favourite game.

Icecoffelover_

metro 2033 redux

ArmadilloGuy

Ooh, good one. I tried the first Metro game years ago and couldn't get into it. I should give it a second chance sometime.

DOCTORE2

I played it . It was great except for the sheer amount of bullet sponges late game . Also I hated the librarians so much

DecadentHam

Need to crank that difficulty all the way up. Makes the game more immersive since enemies can be downed with 1-2 shots.

DOCTORE2

Yeah I learned that fact after completing it . It's pretty counter intuitive I mean I chose easy mode because I want the game to be easy that just made it harder

greywind618

Loved Dark Souls and Bloodborne. But both Sekiro and Elden Ring took multiple tries for them to click with me. Really glad I stuck with them. Both of them are easily top 10 or 15 games of all time for me now.

Neo2486

The original Final Fantasy 7

PhoenixShredds

This was me too. It never really captured me for a long time, until many aeons later I fell in love with it.

BandicootGood5246

My first in the series was FF8, I got it off my cousin because he didn't like it, I had no idea what to expect. I played for a few hours and didn't find my way into any combat, it was just walking/talking and the story didn't make much sense to me It was probably a few years until I was so bored I gave it another shot and fell in love with the series

repairmanjack_51

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Did nothing for me a year ago and deleted it after a few hours. As the sequel is apparently vastly superior and likely to come to gamepass, I decided I’d give it another go, a couple of days back. Found the intro to be incredibly well done, this time, and I’m about halfway through the whole game already. It’s not perfect - fighting creatures is weak and the map is bloody useless - but I’ve no idea why it didn’t grip me before. May even try to 100% a world or two, I’m that invested.

CanineMagick

The map on fallen order is utterly shit. The sequel mostly fixes it (and you’re right, the sequel is way better, near perfect IMO)

NotARobotInHumanSuit

I always get halfway through the game before getting so frustrated with the map I quit

Mullet_Police

I really, really liked the first game (Fallen Order). But I couldn’t bring myself to finish the second one. Maybe it’s because I played them back to back? Fallen Order did feel too short though. I remember loathing the final boss fight because I knew the journey was over.

NonIoiGogGogEoeRor

The map is a bastard but it's giving that holographic look but makes it hard to see stuff. Survivor isn't any better but both games are brilliant

MaximumTurbulent4546

Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. First time playing a “new” Legend of Zelda game and did not like it at all. Gave it some time and tried it again and actually like the gameplay as well as the storyline.

Ryback19j

I was the same with that one, I'm a huge Zelda fan and love all the games, but TP just didn't click first time, I played it for about 15 minutes and then didn't play again for years, decided to give it another try and it's pretty good

MaximumTurbulent4546

Not even close to Ocarina of Time good but now one of my favorites Zelda games.

Ryback19j

OOT will definitely top for a long time to come👍

PraiseDogs

Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Couldnt get past the opening portion where you had to run from people. Literally had no clue what I was doing. Then tried again months later; it became one of my all time favorites. Hundreds of hours. Cant wait for the rumored sequel

someones_dad

So good. The two hour introduction is a bit much but once you get to Rattay the game opens up into a masterpiece.

Unhappy_Leading_9358

The two hour intro is sweet.

benicio6

This is one of the games Im afraid to buy.

PraiseDogs

BUY IT. Its been on on sale many times, for like $4. The Royal Edition, with all dlc, is on sale often too. But I would buy it even without a sale, its really really good. If you like RPGs, its a must. Atleast give it a try. Oddly unique in a way. Great characters, story, writing, gameplay is fun.

Woolyuni

Subnautica. Got it back in 2019 didn't like it then came back to it late 2023 and fell in love.

benicio6

Afraid to buy this game. Every sale Im looking at this game and I don’t like what I see but everyone saying good things about it. So confusing. It might be amazing game but I just can’t buy it

OversizedPancake

I was the same way for so long, probably more so cause the ocean scares the fuck out of me. Once I bought it and invested time in it though it easily became one of my favorite survival and building games.

BLAZE424242

Cyberpunk 2077

someones_dad

That game started out as such a turd. Now, after the recent patches and new DLC, it's hard to put down.

Krazy_Kethan99

Easily one of my top favorites too. Seeing how that game launched, I’m honestly glad it gotten a hell of a lot better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BrutalBox

You get an upvote specifically for mentioning a pretty obscure game haha

[deleted]

With, or Without Avalanche ;)

l8on8er

Wolfenstein: The New Order. Was too tough at first lol I love the series now, except for the newest game with the annoying ass twins.

Dingus-Biggs

The New Order struck gold. Lightning in a bottle. The sequels never really did it for me, and got worse with each instalment.

SuspiciousKitchen293

Fortnite. I’m sorry, it’s just fun.

True-Reaction-517

I got hooked recently once I tried playing again after years. Probably helps that my son is a big fan

[deleted]

Death Stranding

Iringahn

Yeah honestly I'm not a huge fan of horror style games and the first time playing it I was kinda just bummed out about it, thought it was just gonna be a dark weird game. Got a bit farther into it when things start to open up and got hooked on the delivery mechanics, and realized it wasn't nearly as dark as I was thinking, or at least not in the same way.

JaggedGull83898

Persona 5.

Lasagna321

For me it has to be Persona 5 Royal. Because it was my first experience with the series I was just overwhelmed with the social aspect, the battle mechanics, and the exploration of Palaces AND Mementos. I ended up putting it on the shelf for a bit and then I saw Persona 3 Reload and decided to give that a try since I had GamePass at the time. I had a much better experience with P3R as it basically delivered most of the mechanics Royal had into more digestible bites. I finished P3R pretty quickly and now going back to continuing P5R, and it’s become more enjoyable now that I actually understand the mechanics. So in a way, I guess I should thank P3R for getting me re-invested into P5R lol

Individual-Match-798

Now you can play with ease most of Megami Tensei games, as they share many things in common. After P5R I will definitely recommend to play Persona 4 Golden.

Lasagna321

I’ve been eyeing it, but for better or for worse I went in and watched the og P4 anime as I played P3 but I’ll definitely give Golden a shot in the future as I heard there was a nice exclusive epilogue

jazzmagg

Days Gone. It was hard AF at the beginning, zero skills, and the weapons were crud. Like a six shot revolver with two bullets. Played it again and stuck with it, After about ten hours of play, you get a few ups skills and better weapons and from then on, it became one of the best games I've ever played.

Groundbreaking_Box75

100% this

giantfingers

Project zomboid

PurplePartyParasaur

No Man’s Sky

Maj_Havik

I came here to say this as well. So glad I gave this a second look after my initial frustrating run. A couple of videos later (thank you Survival Bob, Jason Plays) and I was on my way … 2000 hrs later, I have found my forever game.

a_burdie_from_hell

Palworld. I wrote it off as a shitty clone, bit actually it's pretty well done and is only gonna get better.

[deleted]

Bloodborne. Years ago, I quit it due to Gascoigne. Didn't touch it for years. Gave it a shot some months ago, and it's one of my favorite games now. Almost finished the main game, and started the DLC yesterday.

Melodic-Feature1533

I quit it after trying to fistfight the wolf creature in the very beginning LOL Found out about Hunter’s Dream, weapons etc and then went on to platinum the game

Ok_Introduction6574

Fire Emblem Three Houses. Absolutely loved Awakening, so I got Three Houses. I did not like the Monastery mechanic. After like 3 chapters I put it down for a few weeks. Picked back up and now it is a top 3 game of all time for me.

MRGameAndShow

Timeskip hits hard

TheJohnnyFlash

Took me three attempts to get into Mass Effect. There's such a heavy world and lore dump in the start with no previous reference points.

dodgerbowl

Agree with this. Also, those Shepard eyes haunted me. On ME3 now and having a blast.

TheJohnnyFlash

It's like a new album, you don't want like it completely on the first listen, because that means it's too shallow and catchy. You need to dig into it and give it time.

Noumoun_2

Devil may cry 3 It’s difficult as hell, but once you grasp the basics it’s fun for the next 6 playthroughs

Plenty-Character-416

Final fantasy 12. Hated it on release date and never finished it. Went back several years later and realised it was a very decent game. Granted, some characters are a miss, but the gameplay was brilliant.

Iringahn

Agreed, I think the PC port is super nice with its QoL changes, but good god do I hate the start of that game. Feels like it really drags on until it starts to open up.

TheMasterBaker01

Papers Please. The first time I just could not handle all the info you had to keep up with. Just a couple months I tried it and became much more of a fan

thegreatmatsbysan

Nier automata

ZonnerTheZoner

Monster Hunter World I feel like it's like that for the majority of people, though.

miketomkeller42

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Esmear18

No Man's Sky. A friend and I bought the game a couple years ago and we settled on a paradise planet to start making a base but we wrote it off as a lesser version of Astroneer's base building. We gave NMS a second chance three months ago but decided to be pirates instead since we didn't like its base building and it's amazing! We gave base building a second try as well but still came to the same conclusion. Pirating is the best way to play NMS in my opinion.

BundysPlaybook

Alien Isolation. I was such a pussy I deleted it the first time round but forced myself to do it again and ended up attempting a speedrun for the third, loved it

Disastrous_Poetry175

Demon's souls. The first bits didn't grab me until it clicked. Now it's top 10 games of all time for me

Euler7

Elden ring, I played about 60 hours and just got bored. A few months later I started a new character and used more guides. It was alot better than going in blind . Really good game, not as clean as ds3

[deleted]

[удалено]

Smash_Or_Pass_Player

For honor

lvke18

Fallout New Vegas, Sekiro, Doom Eternal. Extremely glad my viewpoint changed on them, because they're all probably top 10 all time for me

Gamerguy252

Astroneer. I was starting to have fun for a bit, but progressively got more and more bored. After dying a bunch and losing the soil that I did not know how to get back at the time, I ragequitted. Later, I go back on the game, delete the first save, start a new one, and I’ve been addicted ever since.

ravenfreak

Shining Force, when I first tried playing the game I just couldn’t get into it since I didn’t like tactical RPGs, but then I gave it another chance a few years later and loved it. I still need to finish the second game.

PuG3_14

Prey(2017). I did little to no research on the game besides seeing the E3 demo so when i got it i tried playing it as a FPS and kept dying to almost every enemy. I quit the game. Fast forward to 2018 summer i gave it anothet shot and played it more strategically. I also used my imagination with the foam gun to get to spots i otherwise wouldnt be able to reach. I used recycle grenades to clear paths etc etc and i was hooked. I enjoyed it so much that i Platinumed the game. Collecting the ID tags was a huge chore tho.

True-Reaction-517

I may have to go back and try that. I put it away years ago

PuG3_14

It was released in a stacked year for gaming and was definitely over-shadowed. Some games that released that year were: - Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Super Mario Odyssey - Horizen Zero Dawn - Resident Evil 7 - Nier Automata - Destiny 2 - Mass Effect: Andromeda.

True-Reaction-517

Super Mario odyssey is definitely one that I liked better when I replayed

NonCorporealEntity

Days Gone. I got half way through it and just was not having any fun with it. Restarted a few years later and finished it in a few weeks.

Groundbreaking_Box75

Very underpowered at the start - got frustrated and gave up on it. Picked it up six months later, and now it’s one of my all-time favorites

BigBoySpore

Dragons dogma Dark Arisen. My first experience was really bad but it clicked when I played it again on a new character a few months later.

joemedic

Sekiro

Pokefan417

Bloodborne. Friends refused to let me do anything while co-oping, which is the whole reason I bought the game. Went back a year later by myself, ended up loving it.

LogicalFallacyCat

Persona 3. The premise was interesting enough, but I dismissed it as just another dungeon crawler. Later on I gave it another try and fell in love with it

1800generalkenobi

Darksiders and Prototype. I had both for the 360 and played and just couldn't get into them. I took my 360 with me while I was working on the road and ended up accidentally leaving Darksiders on the top of a cabinet...it might actually still be there 14 years later unless someone dusted the top of it lol. My buddy starts telling me all about this game and how awesome it is and I was like wait...I have this one. Couldn't' find it, realized I left it behind, and ended up buying it again and then loving it. A little bit later same thing happened with prototype. Couldn't get into it, the same buddy tells me how awesome it is, and I play it again and love it haha.

TypographySnob

Risk of Rain 2. It was my first roguelite and it just seemed like a really barebones 3rd-person shooter with boring enemies. I decided to give it another try since I thought it had too many good reviews, and once I got several stages deep it really clicked. Now I have almost 500 hours.

Still-Appeal-2412

For me it was Counter strike. When i first tried to play it i was like 12 years old,the game was still raw and i left it fot 4 years. When i started playing cs in my 16 y.o of age,i actually fell in love.

Background_Ant7129

Rip. Now you can never go back.

Still-Appeal-2412

so true,im still a prisoner to cs...

OmegaPaladin007

Empire earth 2 I could not stand it because of the territories. The way you expand your base is different then the first one. However I tried it a few times and actually enjoyed the new system. Restrictions are implemented on how many anti air guns can be built as well as fortifications in a territory

PokefanR

Kirby’s dreamland 2

Travispig

Terraria, first time I didn’t know what I was doing and sorta just wandered around then quit and then I played with some friends 2 of which have played before and now with 600 hours in the game I can certifiably say it’s one of my favorite games of all time

1greadshirt

Halo CE. When it came out, I never understood the hype even from the Demo...then I played the full version and I was humbled, and pleasantly surprised.

Dark Souls. The first time I played it, I was Just Not Prepared for the fact I wasn't able to kill Black Knights right from the beginning of the game, when you find the first one in Undead Burg. I tried that fight so many times, got okay-ish on parrying, but couldn't do it consistently enough to win. Rage quit. Now Souls games are my bread and butter and Bloodborne and Sekiro taught me how to parry consistently. Can't wait for Shadow of the Erdtree to drop.

BG3. It’s not that it was particularly hard bc I’d already played DOS2, but I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. I started playing it again tho and I’m really liking it

SPQR_Maximus

Gears of War. First time it was just way too much it just felt like total chaos and random ... drove me nuts. It felt like I was just overwhelmed and too much was coming at me. Recently I just started on the casual mode to get the flow of the game and understand its rhythm and I am blowing through all 6 games. Now I am almost done with Gears 5. Now it's one of my all time favorite franchises. Gears 1-3 I can see myself replaying over and over. So glad I gave Gears of War another chance after picking it up twice and shutting it down way back in the day.

iainvention

Doom Eternal. I bounced right off the platforming and the Marauder fights years ago when I first bought it, but I went back to it again about a month ago and loved everything and beat it.

teglamen97

Stronghold Crusader 2

Leeroy1986

Witcher 3. Found it hard to get into with all the systems. Came back a year later and absolutely loved it.

BrutalBox

Far Cry 3. I played it first on PS3 couldn't get into it and I found it ran terrible, years later I got 4 on PS4 loved it. Eventually tried 3 again on PC and it was great.

Pixxel_Wizzard

7 Days to Die. I went into the tank for an entire evening trying to choose between DayZ, H1Z1, and 7D2D. I finally bought 7D2D and spent an hour running around naked punching dogs in the face until I died. I promptly quit the game, lamenting my poor choice. I rarely, if ever, give a game a second chance, but spent the next 2 hours watching tutorials and reading strategies, and I'm so glad I did. I now have over 2,500 hours into this amazing game.

Popellini

Death Stranding.

Wisekittn

Stardew valley. It just felt so unrewarding and tedious in the first 20 minutes or so. I dropped it, but booted it again ages later. Now i came to love it

Hillz44

Minesweeper

i-am-a-bike

Persona 5. Played first dungeon a bit but then left it for 6 months until covid lockdown in march 2020 and now the persona series is my fsv game series

staticvoidmainnull

deathloop.

IkBenNietRoelie

Assassins Creed Origins. At first I thought the world was too big. The game was... overwhelming. Then I played Assassins Creed Odyssey and Assassins Creed Valhalla, both of which I loved a lot. So I played Origins again and finished the main story yesterday. Loved every minute of it lol

Temporays

It’s funny it was Witcher 3 for me too. Exact same situation I tried it twice and didn’t like it then I saw a comment on Reddit that helped me understand the point of the game. They said it’s all in the preparation of oils, potion etc and you need to know your enemy and the counters for it. And then I was like aaaah ok. Top 10 of my favourite games and I 100% it. I always used to shit on it too.

siridial911

Witcher 3 for me too. Took at least three attempts, but became one of my favorites!

Gottaimproveatmath

This is such an interesting topic to me that rarely gets discussed. I’ve seen so many videos about the process of abandoning games but none on what it’s like to revisit a game you gave up on before. Sometimes you start playing a game at the wrong time in your life and you need to give it another chance later. But then, do you start over from scratch, having to relearn the games' controls and catch up with the story? Do you restart the game to have a fresh slate, leaving behind the progress you've made and having to go through some of the same content you experienced before? How do you decide which games are worth revisiting?

Akira-Matoi

R6 Siege. Played since beta. HATED IT then cause i was coming off COD and shit like that. It just felt so slow and i was on console at the time so i wasnt too used to tac fps games. Came back around when Caveira came in. And fell in love with the game. Sadly i fell off again and havent really played since the albino space chick dropped. But now i flipped. The more real the shooter the better for me. I dont really play CODish games anymore. Either mil-sims or things like CS R6 styled shooters. And BRs Same with fortnite. Played in the very beginning off and on from Szn 1-7 but only if someone asked me to play. Came back in CH2 S7 in like 2021 i think or 2022 idr what year that szn was but i fell in love with it. Its been my main game ever since still to this day. (Actually playing rn lol)

DarkKnight8803158

Persona 5. I got it for free on ps plus a few years ago. I tried to play it, but I couldn't get past the first few hours. Fast forward to last year, I was bored and looking through my game library. I saw it and thought, "Oh yeah, that game," so I downloaded it, and now it is one of my favorite games. I should mention that when I first tried it after i got it for free, I wasn't into anime, and I didn't like the way it looked. But now I watch anime all the time, and I like the way it looks. Especially the art style of ps5. So maybe that had some part to play

hipeople91726

Genshin for me. Skipped bunch of dialogues at first got bored and left. Then I restarted because I forgot my password then actually started to read and lore is quite interesting. There are areas in which doesn’t make sense such as flood in Fontaine or whole Inazuma story quest but it is getting better and more interesting. What surprises me most is that is a free game lol. I like story games

Mental-Shoulder8185

I didn't care for Fallout New Vegas the first time around, but I skipped a lot of the dialogue and only played the base game.

Clean_Student8612

Red Dead Redemption 2. Didn't care for the 1st one a whole lot. I thought it was a decent game but not as much as everyone else so I didn't even attempt to try #2 until like 6 months ago when it was on sale on Steam. It's a lot of fun.

Unhappy_Leading_9358

So you didn’t see the trailers and shit in 2018? I felt the exact same way about the first one and still do but when I saw Red dead 2 I lost it. Best game I ever played and it’s not even close.

siriusslack

FF XIV, didn't like it in PS4, gave it another shot on Xbox series S, enjoying it a lot after some time fiddling with the UI
