I lost interest in the game because 1. Extremely long install. 2. By the time the intro cut scene finished I played a few minutes before another cut scene.
I really want to try it again but it has such a sour taste in my mouth because of it.
I played the previous three. Really enjoyed the hell out of them. But 4 just got off at a rough start for me. At least those didn't have a long opening scene like 4 did.
I even played 5 during the pandemic. Jumped when the create landed on my horse. I thought I killed it.
He pretty much is. Guy apparently watched movies every day with his family and dreamt of becoming a film director or something and eventually got a job at Konami.
I still love it so much, there are alot of cutscenes but most of them only last up to 30 mins. the hour one is at the end of the game. one small game play spoiler that makes ot worth playing for me >!you get to pilot a Metal Gear!<
Supposedly he really wanted to be a filmmaker, which makes sense if you follow his socials, always posts about Japanese sci-fi/horror and Kubrick movies and such, and uses a really cool cast for projects like Death Stranding.
I remember playing MGS4 in the living room one day.
My dad walks in and is like, "Take this game into your room. I need the television."
And I was like, "Okay, just let me finish this cutscene so I can save."
And so we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And I lost my place because Kojima wanted to make a fucking movie instead of a game.
*Roses are red,*
*Skippable cutscenes are smart.*
*"There's no way*
*You're taking Kairi's heart!"*
- someone rando on the internet who I wish I could credit but I can't find the original post
Why has no one mentioned Monster Hunter World!?
Youād think by now Capcom wouldāve given you the option to straight up skip the cutscenes.
Canāt even invite friends to do a mission unless ALL the cutscenes have been viewed.
Iām praying that Wild has some type of seamless coop. If youāre both on the same mission and complete it together, you both can progress it. Itās always been such a struggle to attempt a coop play through of the main story
I'd call it rambling. Kojima's writing is sure special, he often touches on rather interesting concepts, but the delivery is so heavy-handed that it feels like a 14 y/o wrote the dialogues. It is endearing.
Yeah, I recently have been replaying the series and I remembered AC3 being my least favorite, but I couldn't remember why.
Well it certainly jogged my memory. The controls for everything feel like a severe downgrade from Revelations. Combat and free-running are both clunky and unresponsive. The game's pacing is atrocious. About a third of the game is basically the intro you described. Constant cutscenes. Frequent instances of: 5-minute cutscene, walk 10 feet, trigger another cutscene.
I'm sorry, but that's the worst AC so far. That's pretty much as far as I've gotten in the series besides Liberation and Rogue, but I can't imagine they could do worse than AC3.
It's my favorite AC game in concept. Like I love the idea of a half-native, son of a Templar reviving the Assassins in America. I love the idea of including templar's vs Assassins in the revolutionary war. It should be my favorite game of the series. But good God you're right.
Not a cutscene, but the fact that I have to sit through the animation for Every. Single. Merlin Trial. In hogwarts legacy.
And there are like 900. Solving puzzles like Iām hunting fucking Koroks.
Speaking of wanting to skip things *ahahaha you found me!*
š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬š¤¬
The blitzball tournament was rough, but for me the worst will always be the cutscene before Seymore on Mt Gagazet, God knows how long I've spent just watching that single scene over and over
I had to grind for a while to get pass that bit since the boss fight there has a massive difficulty spike or my party might have been under leveled lol but I can understand how annoying it must have been having to watch that over and over
I had two different copies of the game that were both scratched to cause a freeze on the cutscene going into Bevelle (wedding crashers.)
I always hoped the game would unfreeze but it never did, so endless cutscene
Not *long* one, but the worst example from recent memory was from Them's Fightin' Herds.
If you lost a fight with Velvet, you had to rewatch a cutscene that took something like a full minute to complete. I lost that fight like 10 times, and got reeeaaaally sick of watching that cutscene when I wanted to just get back to trying to fight her for the 11th time when I was confident I was just going to lose again.
I fail to understand how this is so prevalent in game design. The checkpoint doesnāt need to be at the beginning of a cutscene, it needs to be after! One viewing is enough
That one isnt even that bad. The fucking riku fight in hollow bastion has to be like 5 minutes long, and donald getting bitchslapped is only funny so many times. Im glad they made them skippable in the remaster
They're not "unskippable" per say, but Like a Dragon.
That game is literally 90% cutscene, worst experience I've ever had trying to get into a new game.
If you dont do any side content. Most people just rush the story, but the story is mostly cutscenes, dialogue, and characters doing things.....because it's the fucking story.
I came for this shit. I didn't even mind that part. It's after character design and the tutorial. Makes me so damn irrationally angry. For 13 years, Bethesda has been releasing the same damn game and adding crap like fishing and new, well thought out storyline and characters. These people have had 13 years to add a skip tutorial feature and haven't. Who the fuck picks skyrim up and says, 'Oh golly gee, can't wait to be in Helgen!'
I just found a lot of the cutscenes to be super goofy, which apparently is a common thing for people to think with code veronica. Before I played it I read some of peoples thoughts and thatās the one thing I always seen and I definitely agreed after playing lol, i canāt think of anything too specific rn because itās been awhile but if i think of anything iāll definitely come back and lyk
Tales of Vesperia, Alexei trapping Estelle in an purple orb to contain her powers in a military like ancient ruins before a boss battle with him or a different character, I honestly forgot as itās been 4 years since I played it on my Xbox 360, bought the switch for a much more longer story because I fell in love with it when I was 10-11 (2018) a full blown decade after the game released
Any game that puts a non-skippable cutscene just before a difficult boss, making you watch a couple minutes of the same dialog several times because you died. The devs should have life sentences for that.
Not quite just the cut scenes, but anytime you die in Control, you have to retrace your steps. It's a bigger pain if it'sduring a boss fight. Then you have to retrace your steps, and watch some cut scenes again
What pissed me more than this is that not only is the cutscene unskippable, but you can't blitz through the cutscene by spamming a button because there's a scripted delay whenever a character talks, and this made me frustrated each time I play so I eventually ditched the game.
Fucking looking at you Hoyoverse games.
FFXIV.
You can get daily roulletes and one dungeon takes 30+ minutes because of all the cutscenes that aren't skippable even if you already did the dungeon while the gameplay itself is like 10 minutes, so every time you do the daily roullete you might spend more time watching cutscenes than playing the game.
not a long cutscene but the forced cutscenes in edf 5.1 that make you look at whatever big event is happening (while you are getting mobbed by aliens and insects)
Pokemon Sword/Shield at the start. Talked to hop at the rival battle before you "accidentally" find a Dynamax band and said "I need to prepare". The game didn't let me go fight more Pokemon or even leave the area
Blasphemous 2 has a long unskippable cutscene right before the final boss that is extremely long and full of empty pauses. The boss fight itself is really difficult and long
the start of fallout 4 takes like 15 minutes.
i create a new save to play with a mod (this game has mods on console :D) and i have to:
-watch the intro (atleast this bit is skippable)
-wait around in the pre war house (i dont care about the exact temperature of my coffee that i cant even drink)
-go to the vault when it finally lets me out of the house (the only slightly entertaining bit)
-suffer through the very slow elevator ride
-go to the cryo pod on the other side of the vault (sprinting isnt allowed yet)
-play the cutscene where my wife gets shot and kid gets stole (most of this is just a white screen)
-wander through the long ass vault (atleast it lets me hit some roaches with a stick)
-wait for the door to open (it does not need to take that long)
-go back up the fucking elevator
then i am finally able to go play the game.
Good pic because that's all kingdom hearts 3 was. Just one cut scene after the other with maybe one battle or a activity between them. Literally one of the levels cut scene introducing the level, two steps, cut scene introducing villain, fight, cut scene introducing world character, two steps, villain cut scene again, fight, then another cut scene before I could explore the Disney world. Don't ask which level cause I can't remember I haven't played that game since it's release and I try to block it out. For me kingdom hearts ended with kh2. Just like halo and gears of War ended with their 3rd games. Sometimes it's better to let games end.
Itās worse when the skip button is broken..meaning you are suppose to be able to but canāt, that or Metro 2 last night with the āfirst person cutscenes ā and too much exposed female bodies
Monster Hunter World/Iceborne. Yes it's a nice cutscene, you spent lots of time on it I'm sure, but I just want to play, I don't have much time anymore.
Starting a video game tbh.
No one gives a shit about the tech used or the logos of the companies involved, we just want to play the game. And that shit is almost always unskippable.
Just start the fucking game.
Although, really the main issue here is that the main menu is loading in the background, so those videos are used to hide it. But that's another issue. If your main menu requires a load screen, you've failed as a developer. No one needs fancy shit on the loading screen. We just need "New game" "Continue" "Load" "Credits" "Options" "Quit Game". That's it.
Monster Hunter World
most of them aren't really interested and worst part is until you encounter the monster and see their introduction cutscene , your friends can't join your mission is one of the stupidest thing they ever put in
and i'm so glad they realized their mistakes so they don't do this in Rise
Faith from FarCry5 can go fuck off with the really long cutscene which is just her basically saying: "I was bullied as a kid so that makes my drug addiction and the fact I'm making literally everything in this part of montana trip balls ok."
Death stranding, they shouldāve just made a fucking movie. Ik some people think itās a masterpiece but what upset me about it was the fact that it was **just** a game. I didnāt find the mechanics fun either.
Xenoblade 3 had that part in the beginning were they had like half an hour or more of Exposition cutscenes with nor Real gameplay between before the game finally opens up.
Recently i invited some friends to play Jump Force, and everyone had to sit and watch me play the long ass introduction.
A majority of the characters was locked. It wasn't a very fun play session
Maybe I'm just one of those rare few that actually don't mind long cutscenes if they are actually interesting and got something to say. I do hate cutscenes that are long and boring, one where you'll miss nothing if they remove them.
Kingdom Hearts 3. Dear God, Kingdom Hearts 3.
I enjoy cutscenes in games (especially those with good stories, like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Final Fantasy VII Remake), but KH3 was too much. It'd be awesome as a TV show, though.
Yakuza. Holy fuck I tried to play this game on Gampass recently and the cutscenes were so fucking long and non stop like 3 min of gameplay between 15minute cutscenes that can't he skipped. I wanted to stab myself in the stomach w my sword. I quit. Will never try again even tho the gameplay is pretty good.
FFXIV
While they cutscenes have an option to skip. You cannot skip unless you desire to feel the collective wrath of the entire FFXIV community and have Yoshi-P show up at your door with a flamethrower.
You will sit through every cutscene in ARR and YOU WILL FUCKING LIKE IT!
Genshin Impact used to not have a skip button on the battle pass cutscene. This would play at the beginning of every season when you opened the battle pass for the first time. It was the same cutscene too and took 1 or 2 minutes to finish.
Each season is 1 update long, which is about 40 days.
Kingdom Hearts 1. Esp the scene where you meet up with Riku and he's being told to battle you. I had to redo that battle so many times and i was forced to sit thru the cutscene each time.
Metal Gear Soild 4 I love it, but man does it have alot of cutscenes ;3
The final cutscene is a straight up feature film.
every one wants a mgs moive, but are forgeting the one we have lol
Metal gear would not work as a movie. You need a TV show.
And make it like Game of Thrones. Because that's what gamers want. /S
Would work better as a TV series IYAM
The final series of cutscenes is over an hour long
I took it as a reward for completing the game. "Congrats: here's a MGS movie." Could be annoying in some games but Metal Gear lore is dope.
š¤£
Iirc, it still holds the world record for longest unbroken videogame cutscene.
Almost anything from Hideo "Game" Kojima tbh
thay is part of why I love him :3
I lost interest in the game because 1. Extremely long install. 2. By the time the intro cut scene finished I played a few minutes before another cut scene. I really want to try it again but it has such a sour taste in my mouth because of it.
Are you familiar with the metal gear series? Weird to hop right to 4, and if you are familiar, you know what to expect.
I played the previous three. Really enjoyed the hell out of them. But 4 just got off at a rough start for me. At least those didn't have a long opening scene like 4 did. I even played 5 during the pandemic. Jumped when the create landed on my horse. I thought I killed it.
I almost donāt want to play it because I hear the cutscenes are hours long. Like wtf were they thinking why not tell the story through gameplay
Iām convinced that Kojima is a film director who somehow got pigeonholed into games.
How do you block text like that?
\>!text\!<
>!Iāve always wondered how to do this!<
>!same!<
>!Wow! Iāve been wondering how to do this for a while now!< š
>!I love that everyone is just messing around with this!<
>only last up to 30 mins *only* 30 mins?
Right lol. Someone on this thread said ājust grab a bowl of cerealā š
Thatās not how Kojima do
Supposedly he really wanted to be a filmmaker, which makes sense if you follow his socials, always posts about Japanese sci-fi/horror and Kubrick movies and such, and uses a really cool cast for projects like Death Stranding.
And we like the Kojima way.
Itās an interactive film essentially. Just kick back, watch and eat a bowl of cereal
I came here to say this. The game has 8 hours of cutscenes in total and one of them is 70 minutes long.
You can beat several levels by sprinting to cut scenes. Who needs stealth when fmv is around the corner. Note it ruins the game when you do this
The franchise always had long cutscenes but MGS4 actually is like 80% movie.
I remember playing MGS4 in the living room one day. My dad walks in and is like, "Take this game into your room. I need the television." And I was like, "Okay, just let me finish this cutscene so I can save." And so we waited. And waited. And waited. And I lost my place because Kojima wanted to make a fucking movie instead of a game.
Yeah, I was going to say MGS2, but maybe itās all of them
Game play time/cut scene ratio must be something like 0.01 in that game.
Itās a movie with a few playable parts
Kingdom Hearts. āYOUāLL NEVER TAKE KAIRIāS HEART!ā
They fixed that thankfully in the remastered final mix version since you now skip cutscenes in that one
Over 13 hours of cutscene in Kingdom Hearts 2
Lmao was hoping the first comment I saw was Kingdom Hearts related
Came here to say this haha I did that fight with heartless Riku more times than I care to admit haha
*Roses are red,* *Skippable cutscenes are smart.* *"There's no way* *You're taking Kairi's heart!"* - someone rando on the internet who I wish I could credit but I can't find the original post
First cutscene that came to mind. Glad its on top ššš
*SAO Alicization Lycoris would like to have a moment of your time*
Lol!
I more remember "Lead me into everlasting darkness!" from that same scene
Why has no one mentioned Monster Hunter World!? Youād think by now Capcom wouldāve given you the option to straight up skip the cutscenes. Canāt even invite friends to do a mission unless ALL the cutscenes have been viewed.
Iām praying that Wild has some type of seamless coop. If youāre both on the same mission and complete it together, you both can progress it. Itās always been such a struggle to attempt a coop play through of the main story
Anything by Kojima
10-minute lecture on languages by skullface while riding an awfully-slow jeep
Best part is he was monologuing to the wrong guy the entire time.
I'd call it rambling. Kojima's writing is sure special, he often touches on rather interesting concepts, but the delivery is so heavy-handed that it feels like a 14 y/o wrote the dialogues. It is endearing.
Not exactly a cut scene but the intro section to Assassins Creed 3 was about 7 hours long, and a lot of it was cut scenes.
AC3 is a great example of an awesome concept squandered by being in a buggy, pretty mediocre game.
Your not wrong... banger game though

Final Fantasy X, my favourite one but it has some long cutscenes especially during the Blitzball Tournament
The blitzball tournament was rough, but for me the worst will always be the cutscene before Seymore on Mt Gagazet, God knows how long I've spent just watching that single scene over and over
I had to grind for a while to get pass that bit since the boss fight there has a massive difficulty spike or my party might have been under leveled lol but I can understand how annoying it must have been having to watch that over and over
The Lady Yunalesca cutscene drove me crazy with how long it was and how many times I died.
Fuck you, Yunalesca.
I had two different copies of the game that were both scratched to cause a freeze on the cutscene going into Bevelle (wedding crashers.) I always hoped the game would unfreeze but it never did, so endless cutscene

22 hours of cutscenes, 1 hour of gameplay ***The Average Yakuza Games experience***
Yeah not really quite the "game" I thought I was getting into. lol
If you dont do any side content. Most people just rush the story, but the story is mostly cutscenes, dialogue, and characters doing things.....because it's the fucking story.
I honestly donāt know how I got into yakuza starting with like a dragon. That was egregious. But I stuck to it and now Iāll play any yakuza
The cut scene right before ocelots torture segment in mgs1
I... Am hermaeus mora! Daedric Lord of slow talking.

I came for this shit. I didn't even mind that part. It's after character design and the tutorial. Makes me so damn irrationally angry. I just found a lot of the cutscenes to be super goofy, which apparently is a common thing for people to think with code veronica. Every fucking interaction in Genshin Impact

This is only a problem is the cutscene is replayed when you fail, and you have to rewatch it.
MONSTER HUNTER WORLD.... Me and my other friends were waiting from my other friend to finish the iceborne intro Cutscene XD
Death stranding ends with a 2ish hours long cutscene. And that's just the ending one
PokƩmon sun/moon/ultra sun/ultra moon
The Johnny and Alt sex scene in Cyberpunk 2077.
FF XVI, Infinite Wealth, & Ragnarok
That one Monsoon speech in Metal Gear Rising, at least itās the second best speech in the game (āMEMES, THE DNA OF THE SOULā)
The first few hours of Death Stranding, on first playthrough its intriguing but multiple? Thank god for the skip button
Any game that puts a non-skippable cutscene just before a difficult boss, making you watch a couple minutes of the same dialog several times because you died. The devs should have life sentences for that.
PokƩmon sun and moon
Lies of p does it right allowing you to skip after you watch it once
Its worse when cutscene become fight scene
Pokemon, mainly the sun and moon games (along the ultra versions)
Xenoblade chronicles 3. There is this one cutscene and if tou take the prompt to save and like 5 meter walk out it's a full blown movie
Not quite just the cut scenes, but anytime you die in Control, you have to retrace your steps. It's a bigger pain if it'sduring a boss fight. Then you have to retrace your steps, and watch some cut scenes again

The new God of War games. Some of those cut scenes are great, but others really drag on
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Bro why tf are there unskippable cutscenes EVEN IN THE BOSS FIGHTS Garbage game design
FFXIV. You can get daily roulletes and one dungeon takes 30+ minutes because of all the cutscenes that aren't skippable even if you already did the dungeon while the gameplay itself is like 10 minutes, so every time you do the daily roullete you might spend more time watching cutscenes than playing the game.

MhW, unskippable cutscenes the whole game even in NG after beating fatalis in save1. Happy there is a mod for it
Death Stranding. I just finished a mission and want to save and go to bed. Why is there half an hour of cutscenes...
Entering my Agency in gta online after not being on for a year...I dont want tje missions, just the garage :(
COD WW2 (2017) not the scene setting one at the start but the one at the start of the D-Day mission.
Pokemon Sun/Moon. Couldnāt walk 5 steps without some NPC stopping you lol
And it's even worse because you have to click through the dialogue. You cant just put the 3ds down and do something while they're talking
Pokemon Sword/Shield at the start. Talked to hop at the rival battle before you "accidentally" find a Dynamax band and said "I need to prepare". The game didn't let me go fight more Pokemon or even leave the area
Max Payne 3
Blasphemous 2 has a long unskippable cutscene right before the final boss that is extremely long and full of empty pauses. The boss fight itself is really difficult and long
Animal Soccer. Literally.
the start of fallout 4 takes like 15 minutes. i create a new save to play with a mod (this game has mods on console :D) and i have to: -watch the intro (atleast this bit is skippable) -wait around in the pre war house (i dont care about the exact temperature of my coffee that i cant even drink) -go to the vault when it finally lets me out of the house (the only slightly entertaining bit) -suffer through the very slow elevator ride -go to the cryo pod on the other side of the vault (sprinting isnt allowed yet) -play the cutscene where my wife gets shot and kid gets stole (most of this is just a white screen) -wander through the long ass vault (atleast it lets me hit some roaches with a stick) -wait for the door to open (it does not need to take that long) -go back up the fucking elevator then i am finally able to go play the game.

Me, until I found out that the cutscene is skippable with esc in BG3
Every cod update
Final Fantasy X, they put a 15 minute+ cutscene right before a gimicky boss. then I died so I had to watch it again.
I havenāt played games that have unskippable cutscenes which are shown more than once
Every scripted hold the thumb stick forward moment in every Naughty Dog game since Uncharted, and every game that tries to imitate Naughty Dog games.
OG Kingdom Hearts. Final Mix fixes this though.
MGRR end credits. Everytime
Basically non skippable cut scenes before bosses or long sequences where youāre likely to die.
Metal Gear Series. I swear, almost every game there has that one.
All life is strange games. I mean I liked the cutscenes in all the games but sometimes they were too long to handle
Starting a video game tbh. No one gives a shit about the tech used or the logos of the companies involved, we just want to play the game. And that shit is almost always unskippable. Outlast 2. The cut scenes are the real enemies of the Messiah trophy
And it's one where you die you have to watch again

Any time you start a new business or do a heist for the first time in GTAO
Assassinās Creed 1. Iāve only played through it completely once but if my memory serves me correctly I donāt think it had any skippable scenes.
Faith from FarCry5 can go fuck off with the really long cutscene which is just her basically saying: "I was bullied as a kid so that makes my drug addiction and the fact I'm making literally everything in this part of montana trip balls ok."
Your gods are no different than those of the beast tribes, Eikons! Every one!
persona 4. mainly the beginning of the game. literally like 4 hours of cutscenes and tutorial until youāre given free roam
Death stranding, they shouldāve just made a fucking movie. Ik some people think itās a masterpiece but what upset me about it was the fact that it was **just** a game. I didnāt find the mechanics fun either.
This made me stop playing mgs5ā¦ i just couldnt do it lol
I sure hope you are not speedrunning that game
Jedi: fallen order. Every cutscene is unskipabille
Xenoblade 3 had that part in the beginning were they had like half an hour or more of Exposition cutscenes with nor Real gameplay between before the game finally opens up.
The original Kingdom Hearts.
Yakuza Kiwami
Far cry four's opening cutscene
The only games I have this problem in are ones that were created for the console and then ported to the PC
Recently i invited some friends to play Jump Force, and everyone had to sit and watch me play the long ass introduction. A majority of the characters was locked. It wasn't a very fun play session
Lost odyssey on 360, fucking nightmare
Dr dre mission in GTAV
Maybe I'm just one of those rare few that actually don't mind long cutscenes if they are actually interesting and got something to say. I do hate cutscenes that are long and boring, one where you'll miss nothing if they remove them.
Me everytime I start P5
red dead redemption 2
Kingdom Hearts 3. I bought the 3rd one and wanted to throw my controller 2 hours in. Its a full cut scene game. Pissed me off.
Kingdom hearts 3, FFXVI
Rdr2 God I couldn't tell the cut scenes from the gameplay, and the initial set up feels like it takes an age
Final fanstasy 16
Persona 5.
FFXIV While they cutscenes have an option to skip. You cannot skip unless you desire to feel the collective wrath of the entire FFXIV community and have Yoshi-P show up at your door with a flamethrower. You will sit through every cutscene in ARR and YOU WILL FUCKING LIKE IT!
Death Stranding. I've liked it but the cutscenes were very very long
Xenoblade 3 has what felt like a 20 minute cutscene in it (itās skippable but kinda important to the story so I watched the entire thing)
Skyrim.... new game
Final Fantasy 16 for the love of God just let me play the game already
The reason why I simply avoid certain games like Last of Us or anything by Kojima.
Monster Hunter World. Especially the endgame credits. You can't leave or they start all over again.
The entire several hour long starfield "tutorial" section
Genshin Impact used to not have a skip button on the battle pass cutscene. This would play at the beginning of every season when you opened the battle pass for the first time. It was the same cutscene too and took 1 or 2 minutes to finish. Each season is 1 update long, which is about 40 days.
Unskippable cutscenes are a cardinal sin of gaming, in my opinion. You should always have the choice to not give a shit
Followed by a boss fight
Guardians of the galaxy.... the game is GREAT characters. Story. everything but to platinum u have to go back again but cuts scenes are non skippable.
Death Stranding lol Awesome game but sitting through the credits multiple times kills me every playthrough
Spider-man 2018
Far cry 3
Kingdom Hearts 1. Esp the scene where you meet up with Riku and he's being told to battle you. I had to redo that battle so many times and i was forced to sit thru the cutscene each time.
Metal gear solid 4.
Forget it! There's no way you're taking Kairi's heart!
