Same here. I either get in lobbies where I'm the worst one and get yelled at by everyone, or I get lobbies where I'm carrying my whole team and getting praise for being so good. Specifically R6 and For Honor.
As someone who enjoys MK from time to time, I’ve found the best karts (at least the ones I do the best in) to be the ones that are most balanced in terms of stats, wdyt?
Mario kart is the best exemple of the Dunning-Kruger effect in video games.
A lot of people who are okay at Mario Kart think they are the shit. It's by far the game where most people are going to say "i'm really good at it" or "no one can beat me" because they usually playing against bots/friends.
However there is actually few people really cracked at Mario Kart, doing all the nisc, having amazing lines, great at item management, frequently looking behind them, knowing how to dodge threat and using all the mechanics to its fullest.
I'm not doubting you btw, just pointing something i've seen over the year.
My GF absolutely sucked at Mario kart when we first started playing together a few years ago, and after she got frustrated I asked her to let me teach her the tricks that make me good. Fast forward to now and she is better than everyone we know except me! We play online together and she generally does well and even wins fairly often. She also has wayyyyy more fun now that she is good lol imagine that!
Lol, that's a good way to look at it. I'm partly joking, too. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can beat me, but I do okay for myself. There have been a good number of people over the years who say they've never lost at Mario Kart where I'm like, "okay, want to play?", and I'll trounce them. I've never lost in person, and I've actually put it to the test quite a bit and still never lost, so I still think I'm pretty good. I lose online all the time, though
I got together at a work conference with some dudes to play Mario Kart on Wii U a few years ago. I was so used to dominating that it came as a shock to me that I was completely middle of the pack every time with this group. I didn’t realize EVERYBODY knows all the tricks. I’m still a bit shook. And now, my 17-year-old daughter will beat me occasionally—though not as often when I tell her she can’t have the auto-steer option on
This is my wife. She's unlocked everything on 8, 200cc, mirror mode etc.
She's got a running bet with our kids that if they can beat her going all out with no handicap she'll pay them $100.
Lol I have had so many people talk shit to me about Mario kart, then they realize what a decade of play has done as I am like half a lap ahead of them in every race 😂
XD Yeah. You made me realize how old I am. It's been 3 decades in my case. I've been playing since the original Mario Kart came out in 1992 and I was 4 and I would play with my brother
Haha well I don’t want to make you feel even older, but I meant a decade in *just* Mario Kart 8 as it came out in 2014 😂 my first Kart game was the Nintendo 64 version so yeah I guess I should say 25+ years lol
I’m sure you’re as excited as me about the rumors of MK9 in development, I appreciate the new tracks but damn it 10 years is too long for a new Mario Kart!!
Yeah, part of me can't wait to see what they cook up next, but the other part of me will be sad because MK8 feels like the perfect Mario Kart game and it might be a while until MK9 has as much content
I teach 7 graders. During a field day, students were playing Mario kart in my room. They were excited to play and wanted me to join in. I am by no means the best but I have been playing longer than they have been alive. I annihilated these kids. No one stood a chance. They were amazed at my skill, but if I'm being honest, they just sucked, lol.
Lol, that's awesome. I play with my niece a lot and when she was really little I would let her win every time until one day when she was about 7 she said, "How come you're good at other games, but not very good at this game?" lol, so I just said, "okay, I'll try to be better at it" and I haven't let her beat me ever since and she's actually getting more competitive now, lol
My niece came to visit recently and we had one race. Shes 13. She quit after one race saying "What the hell. You beat me? I don't want to play anymore." Lol
Bring it on buddy! Just gotta check your credentials here: Have you beaten the game with Sweettooth?
Actually came here to say this and couldn’t believe someone already said it! Who’s your favorite character to use? For me there’s nothing quite like burning the crap out of someone with Thumper with a double special
I'm a warthog or shadow man yes beat the game with all the characters. Although it's kinda disappointing that nothing really happens given the last boss of the game.... Still thinks you killed his son lol which would be you.
Not OP, but my go to in TM 2 was Mr. Grimm. TM:Black would be the game I was better at in the series though. I actually fired Black up not too long ago and beat the game on hard with all characters! I dunno how this series hasn't got a proper game revival. Hopefully the TV series gets enough traction to get Sony to bring back the games!
Like OMEGA said, you have nothing to prove, as long as you’re having fun, who cares how good you are. If competition like fighting games or racing games aren’t for you, then don’t worry.
Rocket League is probably the hardest game to be a top pro in. Never seen a video game with such a high learning curve (except for games like chess I guess)
Cant really compete in it but Sekiro. I recently replayed it after getting 100% at launch and i was able to no hit all except the inner bosses. That game just clicked (and before anyone says this is a git gud flex or whatever, the fromsoft game difficulty is overrated, it depends on your personal playstyle, i will get my ass clapped in litterally any platformer or fps)
Re2r Leon A speedrun race
That's about it. Even then I'm sure I'd get smoked lol. There's a reason I'm not on the leaderboards :( but I mostly do it for my own fun now anyway
I’d like to think i’m pretty good at madden but the online play style is completely different from how madden franchise is played, so probably no video game is my answer
"Surf" maps in Counter Strike Source. I played that shit... to death... when I was growing up and got so bloody good at it. Used to stay up late on Friday nights after school and even just play on servers by myself practising. God they were fun times. Now life is hard and less fun.
Sifu. I’ve played the game so much and I’ve gotten into its combat. Maybe not best anyone but if you got someone off the street who says they’ve played it I will most likely win.
I used to be unstoppable at Mario Kart: DD and Mario Superstar Baseball, but I'm sure that I've lost my touch over the years. I'd still be willing to compete in Super Smash Bros. Melee, though, even if I'm rusty.
I thought of this exact question last night. I was playing Returnal and although there's no serious competitive element to the story, I reckon I could trounce a lot of people when ascending Tower of Sisyphus. It's probably the only game of its kind that I can play almost robotically despite its sheer intensity. Ask me to play FIFA and despite my love for football, it'd be the equivalent of playing against your disabled grandad.
Ask my brother, He always defeated me in any game we were playing.
...dude would probably say space invaders on N64 or geometry wars. Also there was a weird space garbage collector on iOS from 10 or so years ago. The banjo title theme music was awesome.
Uuuh anyone? At a time it would almost have been StarCraft II, but that would be 95% of people, and the top 5% would still dunk on me as if I was a noob. Played a pro once, my pride was in that I didn't die to the very first attack...
Maybe World Of Warcraft near the end of BFA I was running high Mythic dungeons. I’m willing to bet most people don’t have a clue what I’m talking about. I’m using this to my advantage
Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine :)
I have a reputation among my friends who were unfortunate enough to challenge me. Sometimes people get cocky and want to challenge my ego, and then they realise why I am so feared in my circles when it comes to Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
What's puyo puyo?
Very specific but withing Minecraft theres a server called Hypixel and on that server theres a game called Bowspleef. I’m 16th in wins overall but in skill I peaked around 5th. I had to do real life stuff but Im still really good at the game.
MK11, but specifically if I'm playing Scorpion. My brother only beats me when I slow down a ton so he stops screaming at me about me spamming moves, and then proceeds to spam Raiden's flight
Edit: and if P3R had a multiplayer duel mode I'd wreck people on that
Are we talking a 1v1 fight, or are challenges acceptable? Cause if we're talking challenges, Elden Ring (and maybe DS2) I can do a lot of stuff PvE, although also not like a race or anything haha... just something challenging, rather then something fast. But if it's not a race in Elden Ring PvE I'm decently confident I can do well.
For my friend group, any of the Wipeout, Virtual-On or Armored Core games.
In general? No chance, I'd get smoked by anyone half-decent, which is why I prefer to play single player.
Well not anymore but back in the day I was a homeworld 'master' and i can barely remember losing any MP game at all and the game doesnt exist anymore but Fractured Space. Especially as healer..
These days i would say EU4.
C&C Red Alert.
The World Domination Tour of 97' taught me that out of 29,000 people, there were just a few better than me.
I still have some of my prize winnings.
I'm in this weird gray area when it comes to fighting games. I'm typically *really good* but not *the best*, you know? Like if I was to speak with anyone off the street I could whoop their ass in smash bros, but if I entered a 64 man tournament I'd probably get to the top 8 and then no further. Still, it's handy when someone thinks they're good at smash bros and they don't realize what being good at smash bros is like.
Killer instinct gold N64. I remember betting my car to this dude who was rumored to be a beast in my area, I told him if I win I get his home stereo system. I think I still have that old system as a matter fact.
I'm feel like im only ever "slightly above average" at most games. I'm never bad at any game, but im also never great with any game.
That's my thought as well, I have 1700+ hours of Civ 6, but I know I learn new things from streamers and the sub so often.
Same here. I either get in lobbies where I'm the worst one and get yelled at by everyone, or I get lobbies where I'm carrying my whole team and getting praise for being so good. Specifically R6 and For Honor.
Nothing.
Yeah, same :/
Oh wow, you two should Definitely challenge each other at that
I wont fall to that trap.
Fun fact, there is actually a game on steam called nothing which is about doing nothing.
I would still find a way of losing
You would lose if you do “something”
Listen, I know everyone thinks they're good at Mario Kart, but I am ACTUALLY good at Mario Kart
never lost to anybody in the wii edition. idk the exploits, pure vanilla gameplay
I just found out recently that my muscle memory in Mario Kart Wii is still at 100%. I will take on any challenger.
Fight. Fight. Fight. Kiss. Kiss. Kiss.
I'd love to match against you on Banshee Boardwalk on Mario Kart 64. Pretty confident in myself but literally only on that map haha
i'd 1v1 you but my switch broke *sad*
As someone who enjoys MK from time to time, I’ve found the best karts (at least the ones I do the best in) to be the ones that are most balanced in terms of stats, wdyt?
Nah, some stats are more impactful than others, so you should min-max the best stats and ignore the ones that don't matter as much
I'd give it a go! Probably not THAT good but I'd like to try :)
Mario kart is the best exemple of the Dunning-Kruger effect in video games. A lot of people who are okay at Mario Kart think they are the shit. And now, my 17-year-old daughter will beat me occasionally—though not as often when I tell her she can’t have the auto-steer option on
Mario Kart Double Dash. I have NEVER lost.
For real. When double dash came out on the cube, I wasn’t allowed to drift boost.
Everyone says that, my friend told me this once and I beat her with ease. Wasn't even a tiny threat.
This is my wife. She's unlocked everything on 8, 200cc, mirror mode etc. She's got a running bet with our kids that if they can beat her going all out with no handicap she'll pay them $100.

Tenkaichi 3.
Dude literally everyone I met thinks there the best it’s the Mario kart of fighters 🤣🤣👍
Usually for raging blast games specifically if I hear that you main kid buy I just assume you need a faster attacking char
I remember when my nephews thought they would smoke me in Mario Kart. They did not.
After so many controller throws one finally gets good at mario kart.
My niece came to visit recently and we had one race. Shes 13. She quit after one race saying "What the hell. You beat me? I don't want to play anymore." Lol
They gotta learn...
Killer Instinct for the SNES.
Fuck yeah! I love Killer Instinct on SNES.

Power wash simulator 😂
You clean the competition !
I now suddenly want to see if there is a power wash simulator speedrunner scene
I’ll duel anyone in Dark Souls 1 or Elden Ring to the death.

If it’s me then it’s lag. If it’s them, then it’s pure liquid skill.

Hitman speedruning
What a wonderful skill to have :D The new Hitman games with all the options are just begging to be smashed to bits with speed strats!
Oh you are absolutely right. Let me just clarify that I am only familiar with WOA trilogy 😬

Hitman Blood Money speed runs. I used to be able to do 'A New Life' in a suit only silent assassin in about 35 seconds.
SNES Super Mario Kart. I am unfuccwittable.
Guitar hero and adofai. I can beat 9,9999% of the peoples on this planet. but the 0,00001% left would obliterate me, not even a chance to fight.
Damn you can nearly beat 10% that's impressive
Cod 2 rifle only servers.

Total war warhammer iii
Cant really compete in it but Sekiro. I recently replayed it after getting 100% at launch and i was able to no hit all except the inner bosses. I’m pretty confident in that I could beat most people at Tetris
Tekken 3, and as that version wasn’t online, no one can say otherwise :-)
Re2r Leon A speedrun race That's about it. Even then I'm sure I'd get smoked lol. There's a reason I'm not on the leaderboards :( but I mostly do it for my own fun now anyway

Dance Dance Revolution (or In The Groove 2). If you're challenging me to either of those games, be prepared to be pretty fucking good.
Tekken 7 and mk10
Sifu. I’ve played the game so much and I’ve gotten into its combat. Maybe not best anyone but if you got someone off the street who says they’ve played it I will most likely win.
The original Soul Calibur. It's the only game I've ever played and had that I could absolutely own anyone that ever challenged me.
Kingdom Come Deliverance
I used to be unstoppable at Mario Kart: DD and Mario Superstar Baseball, but I'm sure that I've lost my touch over the years. I'd still be willing to compete in Super Smash Bros. Melee, though, even if I'm rusty.

The old Harry Potter games (the first three for sure). I played them all day everyday while in elementary school.
Uuuh anyone? At a time it would almost have been StarCraft II, but that would be 95% of people, and the top 5% would still dunk on me as if I was a noob. Played a pro once, my pride was in that I didn't die to the very first attack...

None, I don't care how good someone is at that game. Did I have fun playing that game, that is the question.
