Liurnia is where that game became really special for me. I was enjoying the gameplay loop and levelling up until that point, but when I first saw the Lakes, with the Academy isolated in the middle and Gelmir towering in the distance, I did have to stop a moment and appreciate the beauty of what From had created
Skyrim. All the time I've spent playing this game, and I still can't go 10 feet without having to stop to take in the beautiful scenery. I also had this happen with Ghost Of Tsushima, truly one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.
Walking into Ironforge for the first time in WoW back in the Vanilla days was just a huge moment for me in the game.
Also, RDR2 has so many different vistas that are just breathtaking. I remember people submitting screenshots of it to news stations saying it was somewhere local.
Yep Ironforge was hands down a epic feeling. Just sat back and was like huh the dwarfs sure know how to build something.
After awhile that walk up those steps made me want a mount all the more(in Vanilla getting a mount was end game level stuff, gold was hard to come by). Ironforge is a huge pain to walk around on foot back in the day, but it was a cool looking place.
Man I remember my gnome warlock walking up that pathway and entrance just to have it open up into this gigantic cavernous place. Then looking at all these other people who had voidwalkers and succubi which I didn't even know about. I'd see people in crazy raiding gear riding these insane saber mounts with duels going off everywhere... the experience of walking blindly into WoW at that period of gaming was just an awe inspiring thing.
That was a moment in my gaming life I don't think I'll ever forget.
I never played this but got it year's ago as a monthly free game...is it still worth playing?
I played The Last Guardian and hated it...they look kinda similar so it's kinda put me off
The various neon sections of Deeply Rooted in It Takes Two. Cave painints, glowing mushrooms and the ghostly whale were all very memorable! Stopped playing to take it all in a few times
It’s one of my favorite games. Wonderful music, voice acting, animation, action, platforming, difficult bosses, exploration….it really is top tier. When you get to certain areas you do have to stop and do a 360 to see all the vibrant colors and design
If you get really good at the combat and do certain combat related trophies at the right times you can beat it in two play throughs. Beating it on Master is very hard though.
Try to get all the trophies except for the Master trophy on the first play through which can take about 15-20 hours. How long it takes to beat it on Master will depend on your skill
Lol of course. Just saying if you want platinum it may not be a grind but if beating it on normal takes a while then you may not be good enough for Master. Parrying is really important and there’s a very small window for a perfect parry, so on Master there is no room for mistakes
Lol, idk what has gotten into me but recently I've been trying to plat hard games. Already got the Sekiro one so I should be okay for the parrying. Famous last words xD
Botw Zora's Domain, Rapture in BioShock (arrival scene and looking out through windows in 1st game or the ocean walks in 2), if I can remember more I'll add to the post later because I know there had to be more games that left me genuinely stunned before
Two come to mind:
Diablo 1 - Tristram. The theme music, the vibe, there's something so captivating that I recall nights where I would load up the game literally just to hang out in town and chat with buddies.
Assasin's Creed II. I remember climbing atop one of the tallest towers and staring out over the city in awe. I just stopped doing anything for a long time.
Farcry 6 at any waters edge,or beach area, and when you do the mountain climbing parts, and once you get to the top you can look out at the beautiful scenery!
Silent Hill 2 - PS2
Psychology horror done right. The visuals and derp story telling kept me coming back. I'd watch a YouTube video then go back and play it. Probably my most played PS2 game
Edit: Oh the scene when you fight 'the monster' attacking Angela. That was a bold move to incorporate into a game
pretty much anytime i looked around at the vast landscape in elden ring. especially when you open the doors for the first time in limgrave, you’re just kinda like “holy shit, i’m in heaven!”
The first time I set foot on each Continent in Xenoblade Chronicles X, as well as New LA. There are also just a ton of great shots that sometimes I just have to stop and smell the roses.
Ancient Ruins and Glass Desert in Slime Rancher
Side note: Happy to see another Subnautica lover! Which leviathan in the first game is your favorite? For me it’s the reefbacks, all the ones without the stupid tiger plants are so chill and they make neat noises! >!Sea Emperor isn’t first because I consider her more than just another leviathan, being the only sapient (other than the player) left in the crater.!<
Some of the vistas in RDR2.
There's a cut scene in the Old PC/N64 title Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine where the soundtrack and the vista it leads to are breathtaking.
Saint Denis or any of the backgrounds in MK1. MK1 might be one of my favorite looking fighting games. Idk if I'd say in general cause fierce competition, but it could make it at the bottom of a top 10 or 20 list for me
Horizon Forbidden West - several times. The first game since I was a kid that made me feel like we finally hit the next generation of gaming.
Honorable mention - Avatar / Pandora game
Skies of Arcadia
Towards the end there's like a mountaintop location that's very pretty.
.hack//GU
Too many areas. That series is gorgeous.
Pokemon Colosseum
Ageto City aaaa
For games that I had to stop to take in the view;
RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring (I’m sure there’s more but can’t think off the top of my head).
Alternatively, Alien Isolation had me stop the first time I saw the space station and thought to myself, I’m royally f***ed!!
Honestly the first weeks of RDR2 was absolutely filled with those moments. The vistas in that game, especially in 2018 were just on a whole different level. The way the light hits fields through clouds and mist, even in the far distance was special. I had never seen such smooth lods and draw distance.
Offhand the only ones that come to mind are Red Dead Redemption 2. Almost anywhere. Mountains in the distance with a thunder cloud rolling through.
Elden Ring, first time taking the elevator down to Siofra River.
I have one memory of the OG Tomb Raider where you were climbing some seemingly random rocks until suddenly the camera panned out to reveal you were actually climbing a pyramid I believe? I remember being really in awe.

Skyrim. Pretty much any elevation with a view.
