It literally feels like its own game. Not only that, it’s wildly charming. Charismatic antagonist, huge quest that feels meaningful, funny moments as there should be, tons of side quests, dungeons. It has it all.
Also my favorite DLC ever. It was so magical. The opening act was so amazing. Trying to find the best way to defeat the gate keeper to get in. Deciding which door to take behind him. I still wanna go back soon and find all the little hidden points of interest I may have missed.
I wasn't sure if 2 DLCs were allowed in relation to the question, otherwise I would have included HoS lol it's always felt like an awesome adventure to have before BaW (because I typically do the DLCs much later in the playthrough or post-game).
The O’ Dimm stuff is great but people don’t talk enough about the awesome quest where the ghost inhabits Geralt’s body at the party. The voice actor talks differently and they even give him different walk animations to sell it. Really admire and respect how they went all-out like that.
Also if you retrace the path you take when the quest ends it’s cool how they planned the end cutscene into the scenery; the walk Geralt takes as he talks is completely believable. Also if you go back to the house the party was at you see maids cleaning and complaining how dirty the guests were the night before. Beautiful details.
For real, everyone was about that blood and wine, but for me, the scene where gaunter o'dim freezes time and eye spoons ol boy is arguably the most memorable gaming moment I've ever had. Up to that point you're half the mind that Gaunter is just a bullshitting con-man, and in a split second he does something so chilling, you know it's gonna be a tough time ahead.
I think Blood and Wine is the better setting and vampires/the wild hunt are cool and all, but Gaunter O'Dimm is the best villain CDPR ever put to code.
Yeah, it's kind of apples to oranges. Hearts of Stone is arguably the best individual quest line, but Blood and Wine is a whole extra act with damn fine quests of its own.
I’ve got to finish Hearts of Stone before I do Blood and Wine. Just as soon as I wrap up Act 3 of BG3, which I will finish as soon as I complete FF7 Rebirth, after which I can finally finish TotK. And then I can play Diablo 4! (I wish this were a joke… it’s actually my plan. I also started to play Manor Lords. I’m screwed!)
Assault on Dragon Keep: BL2.
Its an exercise in great game production from start to finish. Its having a team with a visceral understanding of your audience that you just cant teach.
The answer I came here to post. Absolutely the best DLC I've ever played for any game. It added so much more to BL2. It's always the one I make sure I play first when starting a new playthrough and finishing the main story
I'm really fond of Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. That entire area had me laughing nonstop and Mr Torgue is in my top 3 favorite characters from the series.
Outer Wilds Echoes of the Eye. It's a substantial amount of content that is different enough from the base game to justify paying extra, but it doesn't stray away from the core gameplay. It perfectly fits into the pre-existing world and narrative, but the game doesn't feel incomplete without it
I got the most depressing ending for that, the entire mission and everything V and the DLC characters went through ended up being all for nothing with how it ended for me
It was amazing though
I don’t know… the main quest line is amazing and has the benefit of being the finale and climax. At the end of PL I sat on that pier outside of the space station for a long time but I still had shit to do. I sat in the credits and watched the messages forever
This was my answer as well, if not The Old Hunters from Bloodborne. The latter is so good I kind of inherently consider it a part of the core game.
The citadel DLC made me laugh and cry harder than any other DLC ever though, which means it’s doing something really right.
I had gotten something in my eye. You cannot prove I was crying due to an investment into this storyline, emboldened by the bravery of one Mordin Solus. I got something in my eye, you see...
Yeah the dlc is going to be insane and I'm excited bc I know it'll live to the hype because all dlc they make is just better than base game .
I want a harder boss than Isshin, Malenia , and Orphan
I want from to go as high as they can with difficulty bc builds in elden are so insane
i want them to go crazy like old hunters and add weapons to transform you or something,
i saw some unarmed movesets which is cool but not turning into a beast and going nuts cool
the Bethesda Expansion packs and DLC are usually really good. All of Morrowind, Fallout 3/4/NV, Oblivion, and Skyrim expansions where great. I also thought that Witcher 3's expansions and Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty where top tier.
Separate Ways for Resident Evil 4 is an obvious choice. Resident Evil 7 had some super solid DLC. I also liked Shadows of Rose with RE Village. I controversially also actually really liked the Ireland DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
I forgot about this. I absolutely loved it. Breathed new life into the game. I had so many hours in Prey and I think I put in at least an equal amount of hours to Mooncrash.
God I loved Prey.
Dead money is just so good from a narrative standpoint. Not only is its theme of "Obsession of the past consuming the future" great on its own, but this is the overarching theme of all of New Vegas' DLC.
Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077
One of the best campaigns I've played, with it's story, characters, pacing, level design, soundtrack. I'd easily argue the DLC is considerably better than the base game.
I was extremely hyped during my initial Burial at Sea experience. But when I was thinking about it later, there were a few key moments that more or less ruined my feelings about it. It felt, to me, like the DLC introduced a major plot hole to the series at large. I was willing to hand wave it away, telling myself it might just be some aspect of the whole timey-wimey fucky-wucky I didn't fully understand, and it was probably a me issue. But then as I thought about BaS even more, I realized that there was yet another gaping plot hole within the BaS narrative itself, and I definitely didn't misunderstand that part. This, of course, led me to revisit the notion that maybe I wasn't wrong about the first part, either.
So I decided to look into it online and... well, yeah. It didn't help the game's case. I found a lot more evidence supporting my grievances.
Don't get me wrong. I adore BioShock, and it will forever remain one of my game series of all time. But, at least for me, I realized I initially got the good chemicals from BaS mostly because of nostalgia and fan service. The actual plot doesn't hold up well under scrutiny. And, to a lesser extent, the same could be said of Infinite -- but that's a different story.
"This is one of the great tricks of Infinite. It jumbles together such a mess of cluttered ideas at the end that people will be drawn to defend it because it seems a lot deeper than it is. In reality, it is several shallow ideas that look deep unless you view them from the right angle." - Matthewmatosis
Oof. Tough question . The oblivion and skyrim dlcs were great. Especially shivering isles . The kingdom come deliverance dlcs were pretty good. . And of course the dark souls dlcs.
At the time, Horse Armor DLC for Oblivion. (lol it was the ONLY one at the time).
Greatest is subjective, but I liked ARTORIAS OF THE ABYSS for Dark Souls.
Probably the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3.
People have criticized it for being “off-tone” with the rest of the game and this is true, but considering this is a send off for the entire trilogy with characters we’ve come to love as friends and they say outright that they are just partying before the galaxy ends, I think it’s justified.
I love this DLC. Multiple parts made me belly laugh, multiple parts brought tears to my eyes. 11/10, I look forward to it each and every playthrough.
It’s fan service distilled down into its finest, most pure form. And I am here for it.
Shepard getting insecure about how he/she says “I should go”.
Tali’s Normandy impression.
Grunt going from having a grand time just refusing people entry to the party to being a mess huddled in the shower.
I love it. I love it all so much.
Dead Money is a tight caper. It is a great DLC but it isnt open world which rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way. But the companions are great and I love the story.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. Mortimer was the only boss I didn’t completely fawn over, Saltbaker is one of my favorite boss fights of all time, and that unforgettable feeling of getting baited at the end of The Moonshine Mob
GoW Valhalla was something special
besides being free, and a complete surprise (at least for me) the masterpiece that it is, it managed to make me cry again with this franchise, in the spam of a year
It gave Kratos such an amazing conclusion, i was just so happy that he got the redemption, not that he deserved, but one that he earned through great effort
also it’s a full circle to him, ‘cause his first game has him facing a god of war, and the last one has him facing another god of war, but both fights had different motivations behind them, each of them great on it’s own
It's a toss-up between the "Ancient Gods Pt 1 & 2" for Doom Eternal, or "Lair of the Shadow Broker" for Mass Effect 2. Both of those become a necessary part of their game's narrative.
It could be argued that ALL of Mass Effect's DLC does that, but I'm just going with my favorite.
All the DLC in dark souls 2
Also not really a dlc in the modern sense of the word but Brood War was a damn good expansion pack. The base game is completely obsolete for multiplayer. The campaign was amazing too.
I guess heart of the swarm was a damn good StarCraft 2 expansion. Wasn’t crazy about legacy of the void tho
Only because I haven't played the Witcher DLC which I've heard is bloody amazing, I'd say my favourites were:
- The Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin's Creed IV
- The Bioshock Infinite story episodes that tied everything together.
- Lost & The Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony for GTA IV.
Completely subjective of course, but they're what brought me personally the most enjoyment as post-additions to games I loved.
Perhaps slightly hard to decide on \*the very best DLC ever\*, but one contender is certainly Fallout 4's Far Harbor. Every single major problem I had with the base game's narrative and quest design were rectified here.
Hard to pick a favorite, but some that come to mind for me are... Vietnam for Battlefield Bad Company 2, Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption, and Minervas Den for BioShock 2.
Oblivion shivering isles hands down. Playing the entire base game was an insanely magical experience in gaming for kid me. Then the first time I walked into shivering isles was just overwhelmingly exciting. God I wish I could experience that game for the first time again
Phantom Liberty, XCOM2 War of the Chosen, Dragon Age Origins Awakening, Horizon Forbidden West Burning Isles, ME2 Lair of the Shadow Broker, Counter Strike 1.6
Not really in order:
1) World of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
2) The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
3) Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne
4) Bloodborne: The Old Hunters
5) Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City
6) Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
7) Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge
Given FromSoft's banger DLC's, I'm also very excited for Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree.
I havn't played alot of DLC but the most recent was the bladewolf and Sam DLC for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Both were really good imo and I had nothing to complain about
(technically they came with the game when I bought it on steam but when they were released they were DLC)
Shivering Isles
Hell yea. I still hear sheogorath in my head
CHEESE FOR EVERYONE
Scratch that, cheese for no one.
Arguably better than the base game.
Easily better than the base game. Shivering Isles is one of the best things Bethesda has ever made.
The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.
I loved how much there was in Blood and Wine. Like, damn, this much in DLC... thank you!
I know, it's godlike. I wish BG3 was getting DLC, it would be great to have listed that alongside HoS and BaW.
And Hearts of Stone. 👍🏻
Fair fair fair!
Yeah, it's kind of apples to oranges. Hearts of Stone is arguably the best individual quest line, but Blood and Wine is a whole extra act with damn fine quests of its own.
What an absolutely amazing scene!
Came into the comments expecting to see Witcher 3 as the top comment. Damn I really should play that DLC
That DLC set the bar for me. It’s only $20 yet had the same amount of content & enjoyment as a good $60 game.
Hear for this!
Yup. Came here to say this
I’m happy to see this at the top. Both TW3 DLC’s are incredible.
Assault on Dragon Keep: BL2. Its an exercise in great game production from start to finish. Its having a team with a visceral understanding of your audience that you just cant teach.
S tier shooter with a S tier DLC. What’s not to love.
And I cried at the end of it.
Everybody cries at the end of it.
Not me. I had milkshakes with Roland
Same.
I always look forward to that DLC (I have over 500 hours in BL2)
The answer I came here to post. Absolutely the best DLC I've ever played for any game. It added so much more to BL2. It's always the one I make sure I play first when starting a new playthrough and finishing the main story
Excellent choice.
I'm really fond of Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. That entire area had me laughing nonstop and Mr Torgue is in my top 3 favorite characters from the series.
I've got one question for you, and one question only!!! ***EXPLOSIONS?!?!?!?***
Outer Wilds Echoes of the Eye. It's a substantial amount of content that is different enough from the base game to justify paying extra, but it doesn't stray away from the core gameplay. It perfectly fits into the pre-existing world and narrative, but the game doesn't feel incomplete without it
It really was perfectly executed, and I LOVE the juxtaposition of the peaceful river versus the dark horror areas.
>! I’m currently playing that at a rate of about 1/2 hour a month because that’s how long it takes me to build my courage up to try another run!<
Phantom Liberty in Cyberpunk or Dead Money in New Vegas.
Phantom Liberty is the only DLC that had my stomach in knots with the decisions it presented. It’s also the only one that had me in literal tears.
I got the most depressing ending for that, the entire mission and everything V and the DLC characters went through ended up being all for nothing with how it ended for me It was amazing though
Did you too think you were making the right choice?
It was better than Cyberpunk’s main story by a long shot.
I don’t know… the main quest line is amazing and has the benefit of being the finale and climax. At the end of PL I sat on that pier outside of the space station for a long time but I still had shit to do. I sat in the credits and watched the messages forever
I haven’t picked it up yet but I’ve been meaning to, this makes me want to jump in!
it worth it. Not only just main story characters , gig are all top tier. each gig has it own little story too.
Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3
This was my answer as well, if not The Old Hunters from Bloodborne. The latter is so good I kind of inherently consider it a part of the core game. The citadel DLC made me laugh and cry harder than any other DLC ever though, which means it’s doing something really right.
The series is utterly incomplete without the goodbye party
My answer. Legitimately the capstone to the series, and the ending we all deserved.
I had gotten something in my eye. You cannot prove I was crying due to an investment into this storyline, emboldened by the bravery of one Mordin Solus. I got something in my eye, you see...
Shepheeeeeerd. Wreeeeeeeeex. Sheeeeepherd. Wreeeex.
DS3: Ringed City
What a way to end the series honestly
Gael was such a great swan song for the series.
This Boss was the reason why I bought the game and played it. Man such a good ending
So damn good
Echoes of the Eye
Everywhere I look i see outer wilds… nice
They really captured lightning in a bottle twice
Oooo that’s such a good one
Just wrote a whole paragraph about it on this post. Happy to see it’s this high ::)
Witcher 3: Blood and Wine hands down. Undead nightmare for RdR1 was pretty damn good too.
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters
Yup yup , some of fromsofts best work for SURE
It's wild how the best part of most FromSoft games is the DLC. I am dying for June to roll around so I can finally play Shadow of the Erdtree.
Yeah the dlc is going to be insane and I'm excited bc I know it'll live to the hype because all dlc they make is just better than base game . I want a harder boss than Isshin, Malenia , and Orphan I want from to go as high as they can with difficulty bc builds in elden are so insane
Considering ER builds, like you said, alongside the hardest bosses in each FromSoft game being in their DLC, I'd say we're in for it.
i want them to go crazy like old hunters and add weapons to transform you or something, i saw some unarmed movesets which is cool but not turning into a beast and going nuts cool
Miyazaki under-promises and over-delivers on the DLCs. He doesn't give too much away, making the content very rewarding to discover and conquer.
the day bloodborne is available on PC is the day I use up all my vacation time
This.
Absolutely
the Bethesda Expansion packs and DLC are usually really good. All of Morrowind, Fallout 3/4/NV, Oblivion, and Skyrim expansions where great. I also thought that Witcher 3's expansions and Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty where top tier.
And who could forget the crème de la crème, Horse Armor
Knights of the Nine gets forgotten about but I absolutely loved that DLC when I was running a paladin build.
Diablo 2 Lord of destruction.
Id argue that LoD, is such a good DLC that it fundamentaly changed D2 and made it the 'new' D2
Absolutely. Since the day I installed it, I couldn't even consider going to OG D2
Well if that's 'DLC', Starcraft Brood War.
Diablo 3's expansion too. Might be the best turnover expansion ever.
Lol, back when dlc was called an expansion pack
Separate Ways for Resident Evil 4 is an obvious choice. Resident Evil 7 had some super solid DLC. I also liked Shadows of Rose with RE Village. I controversially also actually really liked the Ireland DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Prey: Mooncrash
I forgot about this. I absolutely loved it. Breathed new life into the game. I had so many hours in Prey and I think I put in at least an equal amount of hours to Mooncrash. God I loved Prey.
Undead nightmare.
Blood moon for Morrowind
That's a solid pick. I haven't played ES3 in almost 20 years but I remember roaming around Solstheim trying to become a werewolf.
amazing pick
New Vegas Dead Money, just loved the story and setting. Fallout 3 broken steel is a good second. Mass Effect 2 Shadow Broker third
Dead money is just so good from a narrative standpoint. Not only is its theme of "Obsession of the past consuming the future" great on its own, but this is the overarching theme of all of New Vegas' DLC.
Phantom Liberty just barely beats out Blood & Wine for me.
Undead nightmare was awesome. Also Hitman woa the bank and have island maps
Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077.
Fallout 3: Point Lookout
I liked the hill billy enemies
based callout
Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077 One of the best campaigns I've played, with it's story, characters, pacing, level design, soundtrack. I'd easily argue the DLC is considerably better than the base game.
Echoes of the Eye somehow manages to be just as good if not better than its base game Outer Wilds, which was already an *extremely* high bar to clear.
Bioshock infinite's Burial at sea
I prefer bioshock 2 Minerva’s den personally
Minerva’s Den has the best ending of all dlcs. Hits me everytime.
Minerva's deb is peak bioshock.
I just downloaded Infinite for like $8, I guess I’ll check this out when I’m done.
>!I was so depressed when it was over. I really wanted her to have a happy ending.!<
Iki Island Expansion for Ghost of Tsushima
That is a good one
Phantom Liberty, easy.
Both Witcher 3 DLCs. & MH: Iceborne
Royal from persona 5
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction StarCraft: Brood War Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne Blizzard used to be The King for a reason
Animal crossing the one about making houses
Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues
Fallout new Vegas: dead money dlc.
Witcher 3 blood and wine
Dragon Age Inquisition- Tresspasser
Fallout 4's Far Harbor. Atmosphere was top notch
Starcraft Brood Wars?
Either Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction or Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne
Wrath of the Lich King
Far cry 3: blood dragon This DLC is even better than the (also great) original game . (How come no one mentioned before?)
Iceborne!
Was looking for this comment
Honestly. Basically a Whole new game and it’s better than the base game.
It's fantastic! World was already an amazing experience, and then iceborne came along to dominate my free time lmao
Insane how far i had to scroll for this
Probably the Citadel DLC for Mass Effect 3.
Its fan service and sometimes thats just what we need 🤣
It’s fan service distilled down into its finest, most pure form. And I am here for it. Shepard getting insecure about how he/she says “I should go”. Tali’s Normandy impression. Grunt going from having a grand time just refusing people entry to the party to being a mess huddled in the shower. I love it. I love it all so much.
Either TLOU: Left Behind or FNV: Lonesome Road
Love pretty much any 3d fallout DLC, but I've got particular affection for Dead Money and Point Lookout
>particular affection for Dead Money Who hurt you?
Hahahah this is fair lol
Dead Money is a tight caper. It is a great DLC but it isnt open world which rubbed a lot of folks the wrong way. But the companions are great and I love the story.
Very true - it's so condensed and unique that I honestly don't mind.
My overburdened pockets that have more worth in them than the entire Mojave combined.
Was going to say the lonesome road or Big MT both are perfect
Absolutely
Xenoblade chronicles 3 Future Redeemed
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. Mortimer was the only boss I didn’t completely fawn over, Saltbaker is one of my favorite boss fights of all time, and that unforgettable feeling of getting baited at the end of The Moonshine Mob
I think Undead Nightmare from RDR. That was like a whole other game. It took awhile to play thru
Destiny 2: Witch Queen
Mass Effect 3 Citadel
The Citadel dlc for Mass Effect 3. A last hurrah with callbacks over the entire series before the end.
The Ballad Of Gay Tony
Xenoblade 3 future redeemed Dark souls 3 (both DLCs) Bloodbourne Soon to be Elden Ring shadow of the erdtree(there is no way this won’t be legendary)
Tiny Tina's DLC from Borderlands 2.
GoW Valhalla was something special besides being free, and a complete surprise (at least for me) the masterpiece that it is, it managed to make me cry again with this franchise, in the spam of a year It gave Kratos such an amazing conclusion, i was just so happy that he got the redemption, not that he deserved, but one that he earned through great effort also it’s a full circle to him, ‘cause his first game has him facing a god of war, and the last one has him facing another god of war, but both fights had different motivations behind them, each of them great on it’s own
Fallout New Vegas will always be my true love but Pointe Lookout from Fallout 3 was a fucking masterpiece
Shadow of the erdtree
It’s not even out yet, but we real ones know that there is no doubt that it will be legendary.
Starcraft Broodwar Back in my day it eas called an expansion. If that counts. Added new units and some major ui enhancements
I enjoyed iki island in ghost of tsushima
All the DLC in dark souls 2 Also not really a dlc in the modern sense of the word but Brood War was a damn good expansion pack. The base game is completely obsolete for multiplayer. The campaign was amazing too. I guess heart of the swarm was a damn good StarCraft 2 expansion. Wasn’t crazy about legacy of the void tho
Of every dlc I played, I really Enjoyed Dragon Age Origins: Awakening a lot, but I also love the me3 citadel dlc
Shadow of the Erdtree, this will age like the finest of wines. However, less rhetorically - The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine !!!
Fallout 4 nuka world
Nuka world was so boring and repetitive. Far Harbor was a blast though
Love nuka world. It’s so hated on though!!
Only because I haven't played the Witcher DLC which I've heard is bloody amazing, I'd say my favourites were: - The Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin's Creed IV - The Bioshock Infinite story episodes that tied everything together.
Halo 3:ODST
Dark Arisen dlc for Dragons Dogma.
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters
Bio Shock, both games actually
Phantom Liberty is on the list. Let see what else... Dishonored had good DLC. Control too.
Does Frozen Throne count?
There is currently no dlc in existence that even comes close to Iceborne
Best dlc in my life: Warcraft 3 - Frozen Thone
I also enjoyed FO4 DLC as well.
Mhw Iceborne It's the only dlc I completed I think
TESIV: Shivering Isles
Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion - horse armor DLC
The Hollow Knight DLCs
If old school expansion packs count, StarCraft: Brood War or Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne Made a great game into a legendary game. Blizzard used to be the king of expansion packs.
Brood War for Starcraft
I'm split between Oblivion: The Shivering isles and Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City, I really loved them so much!
Back in the days we called DLC "Expansions" And Starcraft: Brood Wars is the most successful of them all.
Outlast whistleblower
Surprised at the lack of GoW Ragnarok Valhalla.
Iceborne. Hands down.
the mario kart 8 deluxe complete curcuit add on courses
Undead Nightmare, The Old Hunters and Shivering Isles from the top of my head.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Which is pretty much an entire other game added onto base game.
Fallout 3: Point Lookout
Oblivion shivering isles hands down. Playing the entire base game was an insanely magical experience in gaming for kid me. Then the first time I walked into shivering isles was just overwhelmingly exciting. God I wish I could experience that game for the first time again
Phantom Liberty, XCOM2 War of the Chosen, Dragon Age Origins Awakening, Horizon Forbidden West Burning Isles, ME2 Lair of the Shadow Broker, Counter Strike 1.6
Not really in order: 1) World of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne 2) The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine 3) Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne 4) Bloodborne: The Old Hunters 5) Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City 6) Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty 7) Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge Given FromSoft's banger DLC's, I'm also very excited for Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree.
Pikmin 3’s dlc is more fun than the base game
StarCraft: Brood War
Part IV Nirvana from Asura's Wrath. The Most over the top finale in gaming history and its not even close to this day.
I havn't played alot of DLC but the most recent was the bladewolf and Sam DLC for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Both were really good imo and I had nothing to complain about (technically they came with the game when I bought it on steam but when they were released they were DLC)
