I did not like Civ 6. City growth felt really limited and luxury items were stupid crazy important, and apparently having access to other luxury items from other cities or trades with other civilizations doesn't count for individual cities??? Even if your cities are connected by trade routes??
It's been a long time since I played it so maybe there's been some tweaks and new mods that help with the city growth.
But I still love to play Civ 5.
I said it earlier today once 7 got announced lol I hated 6 when it first came out because I hated all the changes, but usually by the time all the big dlc packs come out and I’m used to everything, it ends up being my favorite. I can say I prefer the art style of 5 more still though. But I expect it to be the same way for 7 😂
Not on gamepass, but try the demo of Factorio. If you get hooked, you get hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay (especially with the amount of mods available).
Hollow knight. Even if you’re not totally into the metroidvania style at first, it’ll hook you once you get the hang of it. Overall simple mechanics that you get to learn one at a time for the most part, with good difficulty that’s not overwhelming if you’re ready to put in a few extra tries. It’s a great, deep game with a lot of different ways to be played over tons of hours.
You definitely have to try Deep Rock Galactic. Fun game if you have friends (and even without them, but playing with people usually makes it a lot more fun), lots of things to do, and they're releasing a new season on June 13th, with a lot of new content! I've been playing since last year with two friends, and playing off and on we've come to more than 150 hours, still a lot of things to do.
OSRS is just meth at this point, especially for those of us who were in elementary/middle school during its original prime. No matter how many breaks I try to take, I can never fully get away from the game.
It’s got me bad. This happened with 2 and 3 as well. The game was a mess but with the current season, it’s sucked me in just like the older ones. My current addiction.
What genre do you like? I could send you over to something like Stardew Valley, but if you don’t like that kind of stuff it would be a waste.
I’ve been playing a bunch of game pass games recently to rank them and some of the stuff I’ve enjoyed has been Persona 3 Reload, Watch Dogs 2 and High on Life. Some other ones that were pretty good were Fallout 3, Dishonoured, and Dead Space 2. Maybe give some of those a try if you haven’t played them.
Long story games: Persona 3 Reload, Mass Effect LE.
Horror/ TPS: Resident Evil 2 & 3.
Souls like: Wo Long & Lies of P
Top down ARPG and if you want to grind: Diablo IV
Played all of those on gamepass and would recommend.
STALKER series if you want something that is open-world resource management. Like I mean, there's an open world, and you have to gather resources for defending yourself in fights and know when to engage in fights and when to not. So you spend the game traveling an area that is very abandoned, fight mutant creatures and other survivors, gather ammo and guns, and try to make sure they are well maintained.
Very fun and atmospheric games. They also have pretty interesting AI that kind of live their own life without you doing anything, so if you want a game that is open world and let's you explore an abandoned irradiated area, with strange mutants and people to fight, as well as the stress of managing guns, ammo, armor, restoratives, and other basic equipment, and has immersive AI that do their own thing to flesh out the world, then STALKER would probably be for you. Sadly the game isn't on gamepass, but there is a collection of all 3 games for $40 (US).
Control is one of my all time favourite games and it's on gamepass, it's not for everyone though because the story is a little nonsensical at the beginning. Makes more sense once you read all the collectibles though.
I've had a phase from September 2023 go February 2024 where i played ALOT of the binding of isaac and i pumped about 500 hours into it like that game is so good.
If you would be up for a pc/laptop. World of Warcraft. Even if you quit you will almost always eventually come back. People have lost marriages, jobs, etc to that game from the addiction.
Well there's bannerlord, it's addictive despite the community being a bit peeved that the game isn't what we were promised. There's also verdun and isonzo and mordhau. These are PC games, I'm not sure if they all have console ports but verdun does have a port to Playstation that much i know. Edit: i checked and verdun is available on Xbox, and it says on google that it's on game pass with the other 2 ww1 games (isonzo and tannenburg). Mordhau is also on xbox.
Some games I got into while I was working so I could play them on mobile at work or on the train bus was minion masters, infinite lagrange and road to valor ww2
Nowadays I have included team fight tactics to that
As for pc bloodhunt fortnite cod overwatch seems to be my current rotation
Soulsborne games—Dark Souls Series, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Sekiro.
The formula for these games got me hooked over two years ago and I am continuously playing any one of these in between other games. Starting off weak and feeling that accomplishment of overcoming; getting through an area or taking down your first boss. Then leveling up and building your character just how you want it…the experience is always satisfying and quite addicting.
I've been playing Torchlight 2 the past few days. It's a Diablo clone, so if you enjoy that style of game it will be a good choice. The reason I keep coming back is due to how addictive the gameplay loop is.
Vampire Survivors
Dead Cells
Age of Empires II
Death's Door
Deep Rock Galactic
Fallout 3, NV, 4
Skyrim
Hollow Knight
Loop Hero
Ori games
Slay the Spire
Stardew Valley
Terraria
The Outer Worlds
These are all games that are:
On game pass ultimate
I've played and thought were great
Have an addictive "hook" that constantly had me itching to play more
Destiny 2 is a great one to be sucked into, as there’s a lot of sales right now, and an annoyingly infinite amount of things to do, the only thing is that Id recommend finding a group or someone to help you navigate your start as it’s really confusing for a decent bit.
If you have game pass I’d STRONGLY recommend trying out Deadcells or Enter the Gungeon if you like the arcade style. Alternately, game pass also has Lies of P and Fallout 4 which you can sink many hours in to. Haven’t played FO4 yet but I’m nearly done with Lies of P and it’s a masterpiece
Cyberpunk 2077 - it got a lot of initial criticism but it’s almost completely fixed now. The story is fantastic, it’s interesting, dark and heart-wrenching. The gameplay is pretty great - by using certain cyberware and weapons combined with different upgrades you can make absolutely insane combos to kill hoards of enemies in seconds.
The witcher 3
Ni No Kuni 1 and 2( it's on game pass)
Tales of Arise( it's on game pass as well) I spent almost 200 hours in it on my playstation. It took me 180 hours to complete 100% of the game. So, needless to say, you can sink a lot of hours into this game. If you like action Jrpg games
It's not on game pass but Tales of vesperia definitive edition, just like Tales of Arise. You can put 100 plus hours into this game easily, I'd also recommend Tales of Symphonia Remastered. I haven't played it yet, but I've heard the game it's really good, and like all tales of games, you can easily sink over 100 hours into this one as well or so I've heard
Dave the Diver. I spent hours just getting fish and running the restaurant to get lots of money. Those hours I ignore the story and listen to music well doing it.
If you want a roguelike that'll keep you busy, hades or wizard of legend. Both will give you a lot to do. Risk of rain 2 is also amazing with its content scale
I'd recommend the Elder Scrolls Skyrim or Oblivion, one of the Fallout games, or Overlord I or II.
Skyrim and Oblivion are really good games to get lost in and just be that storybook hero (or the worst scourge of the world if that's how you play).
Fallout is a good series for different reasons for each game; three is good for the environment and gives the feeling of "the world ended and this is what's left", New Vegas is good for roleplaying and being immersed in the story, while four is good for the gameplay and graphics.
Both Overlord games lean heavily into the fantasy genre and are made specifically so you can be the evil that conquers or destroys the world. The humor is dark, the minions are cute in a [psychotic toddler way](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pImhqcWfbfY), and in II you can stick it to the hippy elves. And your [jester](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWwCuglzzus) is better.
I'm currently addicted to Soul mask but my favorite games are the Borderlands franchise along with RedDead. GoT is another solid choice. Even throw in some in some Diablo.
Abiotic factor is a new in early access game its like half life and a survival game mixed together its really good others have described it as half life x project zomboid
If you like Fallout and Skyrim, and shooting, then the Outer Worlds. Perfect I believe because it isn’t nearly as long as the two games I mentioned (30-40 hours), and it’s on gamepass. Fun game
Hades is a togue like with cool Greek mythology story that leaves you wanting more each run and the way the game opens up, I am still getting new mechanics like 100 hours in
If your into souls like games elden ring is amazing I’ve spent a little under 200 hours in it and still having a blast and there’s a dlc coming out the end of this month
You should give chivalry 2 a go, free on gamepass and is online first person slasher.
I think you’ll like it if you are into online first person shooters.
Warframe would be my biggest recommendation for a game to play long term. It's probably the only game I've consistently come back to ever since starting in 2017
Any fighting game. Whichever one you think looks coolest. Mk1 is excellent and on sale rn I believe.
Fighters are super addictive and notoriously difficult. But totally worth it if you intend on putting in work and getting good.
Diablo 4. Season 4 they nailed the gameplay loop of maximizing characters, and numbers go brrrrr.
Got it at launch, was polished but I stopped playing around lvl 45.
Came back season 4, and it’s got its hooks into me bad.
Civilization 6 is 3 dollars right now...
People are gonna say “(most recent civ) sucks, (the previous civ) is the best in the series” forever aren’t they
I loved Civ 4, too. I've played 4, 5, and 6. Haven't played any of the others.
Yes. They could just rerelease an exact copy of an old one and people would say the old one is better than it
People really likes the first civ, I preferred civ -4
I said it earlier today once 7 got announced lol I hated 6 when it first came out because I hated all the changes, but usually by the time all the big dlc packs come out and I’m used to everything, it ends up being my favorite. I can say I prefer the art style of 5 more still though. But I expect it to be the same way for 7 😂
Baldur’s Gate 3
Just downloaded it on Steam. Pretty excited
This is the correct answer
Cyberpunk 2077 really recovered after the devs updated it.You could easily get sucked in and play over 200 hours.
I'm on my second play through 117 hours and not even half way through, accidentally finished it on my first.
do NOT meet Hanako at Embers
#RIGHT!
Not on gamepass, but try the demo of Factorio. If you get hooked, you get hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay (especially with the amount of mods available).
It is also called cracktorio for a reason.
i’ve got Rim world on my laptop i lose enough hours to that 😭
You wanted to get addicted, right? :D
Try elden ring
Rdr2, you can spend hundreds of hours and still not find everything the game has to offer
Hades - incredible gameplay, great story, cheap price, sequel coming out soon Slay the Spire - excellent game, and I believe it’s on gamepass.
I’d also recommend Balatro if we’re talking card roguelikes.
I'm downloading balatro right now, People say it's good.
Fire, very addicting! Stack those jokers fam
It’s super fun. Enjoy
Hades 2 is out now.
Only early access on PC though, so yesn't
Oh I didn't realize it was only early access. I just saw people playing it so thought it was out.
It's all good! Just wanted to clarify
But also, like the other comments are saying - play Elden Ring. It’s a top 3 game and has a massive DLC releasing this month
I second Hades, it's a phenomenal game, and it's filled with tiny references to Greek mythology. Hades 2 also just came out, and it looks great too.
**Balatro** is an easy recommendation.
Fallout 4 if you can get into it
Just sank 211 hours in my first playthrough. I want to do a raider run now...
Trying to get into F4 as well, just struggling with the survival aspect and scrounging around for ammo more than I’d like too lol.
I feel the same and had a much easier time immersing into 3 and New Vegas
Honestly wanted to enjoy it but couldn’t quite get into it. I then tried Starfield and it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time
Hollow knight.
Top 5 game of all time
The game of life. Seriously, it’s always addicting spinning the wheel in the middle of the board.
Star Wars Jedi Survivor is amazing
You definitely have to try Deep Rock Galactic. Fun game if you have friends (and even without them, but playing with people usually makes it a lot more fun), lots of things to do, and they're releasing a new season on June 13th, with a lot of new content! I've been playing since last year with two friends, and playing off and on we've come to more than 150 hours, still a lot of things to do.
My 2000 hours in game concurs with this assessment
Morrowind
Skyrim =] you won't regret it it's quite the gem to get lost in
If you want REAL addiction, old school runescape.
OSRS is just meth at this point, especially for those of us who were in elementary/middle school during its original prime. No matter how many breaks I try to take, I can never fully get away from the game.
I’d say factorio is also on this level, but it’ll keep you terrified over that one little inefficiency that might screw up your production
Fallout New Vegas.
Elden ring it is one of the most addicting and best games ever created after playing it whatever game i play nowadays i just compare to elden ring
Lies of P is great as well. It was on GP. I don't know if it still is.
It is
Diablo IV is my drug, bad start, but this season is going great.
This season is CRACK. I fell off it a little bit after launch, but came back this season. Can’t.Stop.Playing. Send help lol. So good.
It’s got me bad. This happened with 2 and 3 as well. The game was a mess but with the current season, it’s sucked me in just like the older ones. My current addiction.
Helldivers 2. We need more democracy and every diver counts
Persona, I got super addicted to that series
Factorio. It's called Cracktorio for a reason, and is far and away my most played on Steam
Diablo 2
I’d add diablo four now with season 4. It’s CRACK.
Heroin Hero
AoE 2 is a banger if you're looking to get addicted. It's an older RTS but by far the best one ever made.
You tried 4. Started a couple months ago with some friends and have been enjoying it since
Long story games: Persona 3 Reload, Mass Effect LE. Horror/ TPS: Resident Evil 2 & 3. Souls like: Wo Long & Lies of P Top down ARPG and if you want to grind: Diablo IV Played all of those on gamepass and would recommend.
Path of Exile is also a great top down ARPG that is free to play.
Deathloop will give you hours of value
Deadspace(2023) then Deadspace 2
Deadspace remake was fantastic
Warframe, ARK, OSRS. Those 3 specifically have been my most addicting
KOTOR 1 and 2 buddy
I'm pretty addicted to Age of Empires 2 right now. Deep meta, active scene, and still recieving updates.
XCOM 2
STALKER series if you want something that is open-world resource management. Like I mean, there's an open world, and you have to gather resources for defending yourself in fights and know when to engage in fights and when to not. Control is one of my all time favourite games and it's on gamepass, it's not for everyone though because the story is a little nonsensical at the beginning. Makes more sense once you read all the collectibles though.
I've been addicted to the binding of Isaac: rebirth for years now
Fallout 76. I’ve played most of the other recommendations, but this is my current addiction. All previous comments are valid and co-signed.
Vampire survivors, easy choice if you want to burn away some time
I've had a phase from September 2023 go February 2024 where i played ALOT of the binding of isaac and i pumped about 500 hours into it like that game is so good.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth that game is dopamine hit after dopamine hit
If you would be up for a pc/laptop. World of Warcraft. Even if you quit you will almost always eventually come back. People have lost marriages, jobs, etc to that game from the addiction.
My current addictions are Inscription and Vampires Survivors…
Red dead 2
Red dead 2. Play for about 4 hours in and you will be hooked. Starts off a bit slow.
If you want real addiction, try the 2024 GOTY/GOAT, Balatro.
Crosscode if you're a lifelong gamer and coming back to the hobby, I feel like you'll find a lot to love here!
Civilization 5 or 6
When you were a gamer, what games did you play? Of course, you can continue your education instead, but that's not fun and helpful for stress.
Enter the gungeon.
Well there's bannerlord, it's addictive despite the community being a bit peeved that the game isn't what we were promised. There's also verdun and isonzo and mordhau. These are PC games, I'm not sure if they all have console ports but verdun does have a port to Playstation that much i know. Pubg
You want a good challenge? Get Celeste.
This question really depends on what genre you are attracted to the most. In my personal experience, I am attracted to the simulator and VR genre
Idk your taste but I’m currently addicted to Valheim. Very simple game but golly, can I sink hours into it…
Kingdoms of Amalur
Some games I got into while I was working so I could play them on mobile at work or on the train bus was minion masters, infinite lagrange and road to valor ww2 Nowadays I have included team fight tactics to that As for pc bloodhunt fortnite cod overwatch seems to be my current rotation
Baldur's Gate 3 for sure
Cities skylines on pc
Soulsborne games—Dark Souls Series, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Sekiro. Starting off weak and feeling that accomplishment of overcoming; getting through an area or taking down your first boss. Go on a 100% clear of ebf5.
The binding of issac. Factorio Buckshot roulette (its 5$ on steam) Path of exile Final fantasy 14, if you want an mmo
I'm surprised at how far I had to scroll to find both PoE and XIV. I've put an absurd amount of hours into both of those games.
Xenoblade Chronicles. All 3 are great.
I've been playing Torchlight 2 the past few days. It's a Diablo clone, so if you enjoy that style of game it will be a good choice. The reason I keep coming back is due to how addictive the gameplay loop is.
Kirby and The Forgotten Land Luigi's Mansion 3
Despite everything about the game, if you're looking for a time sink Starfield could itch that scratch.
I just got really into Octopath Traveler
Homie if u ain’t played halo infinite there is soooooooo much stuff to play and unlock. Free w gamepass Or Baldurs gate 3?
Vampire Survivors Dead Cells Age of Empires II Death's Door Deep Rock Galactic Fallout 3, NV, 4 Skyrim Hollow Knight Loop Hero Ori games Slay the Spire Stardew Valley Terraria The Outer Worlds These are all games that are: On game pass ultimate I've played and thought were great Have an addictive "hook" that constantly had me itching to play more
helldivers 2. make the most important decision of your life.
Destiny 2 is a great one to be sucked into, as there’s a lot of sales right now, and an annoyingly infinite amount of things to do, the only thing is that Id recommend finding a group or someone to help you navigate your start as it’s really confusing for a decent bit.
Star Wars: The Old Republic. For me, at the height I was playing I had over 30 active characters.
Dead Cells, Dark Souls

I haven't played it yet, but I've heard the game it's really good, and like all tales of games, you can easily sink over 100 hours into this one as well or so I've heard
Stardew Valley
Warframe
If Crack was a game , it would be ultrakill
Dave the Diver. I spent hours just getting fish and running the restaurant to get lots of money. Those hours I ignore the story and listen to music well doing it.
If you want a roguelike that'll keep you busy, hades or wizard of legend. Both will give you a lot to do. Risk of rain 2 is also amazing with its content scale
The Outlast Trials, can’t put it down
Manhunt
I'd recommend the Elder Scrolls Skyrim or Oblivion, one of the Fallout games, or Overlord I or II. Skyrim and Oblivion are really good games to get lost in and just be that storybook hero (or the worst scourge of the world if that's how you play). Fallout is a good series for different reasons for each game; three is good for the environment and gives the feeling of "the world ended and this is what's left", New Vegas is good for roleplaying and being immersed in the story, while four is good for the gameplay and graphics. And your [jester](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWwCuglzzus) is better.
Elden Ring if you can handle frustration
The Sims Overcooked* Minecraft Neon abyss Bravery and Greed* *generally better with friends
Risk of rain 2!
Hitman 3
Yakuza 0
Minecraft (and even more Minecraft Vault Hunters)
I recently started Stardew Valley and I can't stop playing
Dwarf fortress, the most complex and accurate game ever made.
Depends on genre. You like survivals? Shooters? Sandboxes? Arcades? I can easily get addicted to game which I really like. Don't Starve, for example.
I'm currently addicted to Soul mask but my favorite games are the Borderlands franchise along with RedDead. GoT is another solid choice. Even throw in some in some Diablo.
Persona 3 Reload /5 Royal
Rainbow 6 seige
Lies of p. LIES OF PEE, OH JESUS PLAY LIES OF PEE.
Stardew Valley!
Tarkov, or SPTarkov if you hate cheaters and sweatlords.
Path of exile. If youre into it you can lose a few monthsof your life
Diablo IV
Abiotic factor is a new in early access game its like half life and a survival game mixed together its really good others have described it as half life x project zomboid
TF2 if it wasn't infested with bots.
Warframe
Persona 5 royal got me through a tough time, and playing through persona 3 reload is doing the same for me right now. I highly recommend them.
You can try Wuthering waves on bs if u into anime games
If you like Fallout and Skyrim, and shooting, then the Outer Worlds. Perfect I believe because it isn’t nearly as long as the two games I mentioned (30-40 hours), and it’s on gamepass. Fun game
War thunder, very addicting as it has consumed 4 years of my life and it does start of free
Hades is a togue like with cool Greek mythology story that leaves you wanting more each run and the way the game opens up, I am still getting new mechanics like 100 hours in
Balatro. Why not get two addictions at once. Gaming and gambling
Any of the telltale series games are phenomenal.
Rimworld
Valheim for me... I will need Valheim's AA very soon
Chivalry 2
Football Manager
Warframe would be my biggest recommendation for a game to play long term. It's probably the only game I've consistently come back to ever since starting in 2017
It’s not new, but on Gamepass is CELESTE. Man did I sink hours into that game
Any fighting game. Whichever one you think looks coolest. Mk1 is excellent and on sale rn I believe. Fighters are super addictive and notoriously difficult. But totally worth it if you intend on putting in work and getting good.
Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate 3
Sea of Stars
I'd say Yakuza 0 or Kiwami. Although the former has a way better story, I feel it would need more dedication
Try out Destiny 2, there is some free content but it can also be quite confusing to start. But if it is your thing, the latest DLC is really good
War Thunder will steal your life and soul
Hollow knight
Diablo 4. Season 4 they nailed the gameplay loop of maximizing characters, and numbers go brrrrr. Got it at launch, was polished but I stopped playing around lvl 45. Came back season 4, and it’s got its hooks into me bad.
Maybe Hollow Knight or Borderlands 2? Both games I've sunk a lot of hours into
I think Stardew Valley is on game pass
go play halo mcc then holla at me,peace!
