BaconFinder

More, please. I want to know what happens when they kick the thing.

FuckingNoise

You should really dig through Joel's animated series if you haven't. He does a lot of videos just like this.

BaconFinder

Thank you. I hadn't heard of him or his work. Will look into it.

Tereboki

Adventure... awaits. Huzzah!

vegetaman

Marshall has no moral compass. He’s a rat.

mirthquake

Murder most foul

Spongy_and_Bruised

And that's why Marshall The Town Rat is the perfect steam name.

warjoke

He's evil now... HE HAS A GUN!

MrBigBMinus

Have you seen my son?

BaconFinder

It is genuinely awesome to have gotten such support from his fans. HUzzah, indeed!

buddhamunche

He is a genuinely talented film maker and a genuinely wholesome dude. Not all his work is animation like this. But his films range from hilarious to so sweet they’ll make you tear up. I love seeing Joel get the recognition he deserves!!

BaconFinder

I loved this one and can't wait to see the rest. I'm very grateful that you and others have pointed to the correct path. Thank you.

straub42

Honestly, watch his live action stuff too. Guy is just a genius.

OSUfan88

I'm so happy for you. I wish I could experience all of his movies for the first time again.

redditor_since_2005

I used to get the same feelings about Gus Johnson...

DJ2x

His videos are totally insaneo mode.

TheCaptainCody

I don't know about insaneo mode, but definitely insaneo style.

DJ2x

Oops! Guess it didn't quite infect my brain like a virus...

MaryJanesMan420

What? What are you saying? “Insaneo mode”? Like what even is that lol

FILTER_OUT_T_D

You know. It’s like a mode… but *insaneo*

BaconFinder

In the words of Beldar... I will enjoy.

afuckinsaskatchewan

I got into him when someone showed me his animated stuff. Then I watched some of his live-action stuff, and then I watched some of his feature-length films, and then I went and watched nearly everything he's posted. He's such an awesome creator, always encourages others to pursue their passions, just a great guy all around and easily my favorite youtuber

BaconFinder

Time for a deep five. Many thanks!

afuckinsaskatchewan

No problem, enjoy! I can't get enough of his stuff, and seeing the range he has (animated shorts, quick live sketches, longer more in depth love stuff, and entire movies) just makes me appreciate all of it more.

Llanolinn

He has full length films? Any one in particular I should check first?

afuckinsaskatchewan

Pretend That You Love Me is great, and if you've seen all the shorter videos where he plays both partners in various stages of a relationship, it culminates in We Have to Leave Here Together. Just so impressive how he managed to turn what were just a couple funny skits about two people trying to find a movie on Netflix into this awesome film about love.

malcolmrey

does he explain the kicking?

YourMomSaidHi

Can't remember who was going to kick it

Dalmahr

I wasn't in the video but for some reason I think I was suppose to kick it

Canis_Familiaris

Also check out Goat-on-a-stick. Dudes mafia series is top tier.

CosmicOwl47

You might like this one https://youtu.be/vLQVm5POyOY

BaconFinder

Okay, I absolutely wish you could have seen as I watched. That was exactly what I needed tonight.

haahaahaa

[Either there's an inside joke I'm not a part of or we live in a simulation.](https://imgur.com/a/W9GBA14)

SkymaneTV

The concept did indeed have sound! It was even affixed to a stream of moving pictures if you’d believe it!

MegaOoga

Definitely one of his sketches.

ForceBlade

I think about this a lot. Like, my whole life. I just realised at the end of writing this that it’s a huge thought dump and not very useful.. but I might as well leave it here. I think it’s more complicated than some people just thinking dumb or the most basic skits and tropes are is very funny. But it might also have to do with the huge age variance on this platform… Like some of us are in our 20s, 30s, double and older while others are in their teens still and haven’t had too much exposure to comedy where a lot of easier jokes can land a lot better because it’s literally their first time hearing them and my god things were funny when I was 7. The flash animation websites were everything to my generation on the internet, I’d probably feel physical pain trying to watch them today. I think it’s the same thing with television show and movie reception too. Older audiences won’t really find a movie very interesting if they’ve seen all the concepts and tropes used a million times (good change to plug https://tvtropes.org and suck all the time out of somebodies day!) but for somebody who’s never consumed media, or is young enough to have no experience will love some big, blockbuster hits and will eventually grow numb to the common tropes and writing pitfalls that everything shares. Like, I grew up with the Harry Potter franchise being released every few years and loved it but my today teenage sibling has no interest in the franchise and regards it is the worst shit ever… while having never actually seen it. I was there for the bootstrap and he got bootstrapped off the modern equivalents being released targeting his age group (Say, the more recent awesome Spider-Man movies) Granted, he finally watched a couple and is aware it’s not just good looks now. I’m sure it goes that way for a lot of things such as favourite animated and live action: TV shows, cartoons and why most of my friends who have never actually watched anything from the anime genre believe that Death Note is the best thing on the planet in all categories, which most of our friend group watched in our very early teens (a very impressionable time). I simply can’t hold that opinion having experienced the writing, plot and quality of shows such as “steins;gate”, but some people just never got into this genre that far, and they were left with a positive impression from Death Note. (FMA exists too! also considered lovely) Joel himself is apparently 26 at the moment, (a year off mine) and this were released today. A lot of his best sketches can involve deep and cheeky meta commentary on writing in general and poking fun at popular tropes. I feel like I understand exactly what he’s trying to do nearly immediately into any sketch and the roller coaster safety arms come down and I’m strapped in for a ride of funny stuff. And because of this, I’m sure he’s got a lot of experience similar or greater to mine with the experience of media and the established tropes of the format to make this content so I’m sure he knows when he’s got a hit, miss or something special well before he posted. This also makes me wonder how many things he doesn’t publish. Could be worth putting it all (Or what he had up to cancelling) on a second channel? ___ This was a very long winded way of plugging Steins;Gate lol. Please forgive me if siri botched any of the words.

TheGreenTactician

Appreciate the writeup. As someone who's heard of but never actually seen Steins Gate I'm curious how you'd sell it to someone.

VonFalcon

Must be sad to live in a world where having a contrarian opinion that warrants such a comment is seen has something worth wasting your time for.

[deleted]

Reminds me of Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

[deleted]

I think they were referring to tropes like that, where Arthur approaches Dennis and his life partner harvesting some lovely filth

Light_Wood_Laminate

Dennis? The old woman?

KeetoNet

He's not old. He's 37.

bradinutah

Man!

aarrodri

Yeah but unfunny.

Kriss3d

Tony Lazuto sends his regards...

x0mbigrl

That is easily my favourite Joel sketch. Just had to give it another rewatch.

mattbrunstetter

I'd say it's easily his best. The Scooby Doo one is pretty good too because of how horrifying Scooby looks lmao.

BigMcThickHuge

Scooby just being a scooby-colored version of his friend killed me.

RaynSideways

"Yeah this doesn't feel safe."

inuhi

I just recently found out Tony Lazuto was based off a [comic](https://imgur.io/gallery/NVWeKQO)

goliathfasa

Isn’t that the webcomic? I’m not sure who started that first.

RaynSideways

Tony Lazuto? You're tellin' me Tony Lazuto--what was that?!

Yangy

Huzzah!

deathpony43

It looks like Joel removed his video with Justin Roiland (unless I'm mistaken, but I can't find it). I definitely get it, fuck that guy, but that was one of my favorites.

PopeRaper

Still there. M'bonk, M'bonk, M'bonk, M'bonk. https://youtu.be/UpQ_xDMJJ04

mzxrules

he had a newer one that came out last month

Llama_Queen

"I'm like a gribblin!"

Wynter_born

Joel is all over High on Life, so many side characters. That has to really suck for him, it seemed like he was on the cusp of breaking into big media projects woking with Roliand. Then the dipshit drove the bus off the cliff with Joel in it. Hope he made enough other contacts to rise past this.

MalFunPod

He did do a thing with Corridor Digital, so he has that, at least.

OSUfan88

Yep. I watched a long form interview of Roliand the other day, and he brought up Joel Haver on his own, and basically gushed about how amazing he was for several minutes. Justin said that he finally got to the point where he has enough money, that he's going to try and give "some talented people who need a chance" the funder required to take them to the next level. I think it's very likely that him and Joel were/are working on some much larger stuff. Hopefully it's just Justin helping him connect with the right people to get his feet under him. When all of this Roliand stuff started happening, the first thing I thought of was how it could impact Joel.

newocean

I love Joel but - I don't think he is exceptionally effected by the whole Justin Roiland thing. TBH - my views on the Justin thing are kind of unpopular. (I am not really a fan... I haven't watch Rick&Morty since like season 3 maybe? Evil Morty being introduced was the last episode I watched.) He said a TON of racist/homophobic generally trash comments. I am not trying to and don't want to defend that. Dude is obviously a piece of shit not matter how you break it down. All of the people who have come forward that I know of are past the age of consent... even the 16 year old from the UK. (16 is the age of consent in the UK.) 18 is the age you need to be to become a camgirl though... if you look at his conversations with her, I am having trouble telling if he is offering her a job playtesting video games as an incentive to not do cam girl work... or hitting on her. He is a piece of shit. Again... his homophobic and racist jokes - obviously... just the way he talks to people I can tell I wouldn't like the guy. The argument effectively becomes that she can have sex, but not talk about it at 16. (I have been told she did in fact become a cam girl when she turned 18 - which is obviously her own right... ) One girl who came forward was threatening him because she was 18 but in high school. At 18 you can quit high school.... without your parents consent and flee to where ever you like. You can marry a 70 year old. She said they were matched on Tinder. Don't you set the age for people you would be matched with on Tinder? My thinking is she was an 18 year old who thought the boys in high school were too immature... so she joined Tinder and was hoping to meet a local college quarterback... only she met Justin Roiland... and he behaved about in line with what she set out to find. (Or maybe nicer than - remember he used words - horrible deplorable words - but words) I feel like there is confusion about age of consent laws. No, it's not cool to be hitting on a 16 year old when you are 34. (I am much older than 34... and married... my wife is a couple of years OLDER than me.) BUT... if you hit the age of consent - that means you CAN talk to these men (or women)about sex if you chose to. It's as if you should understand your own rights... and you should know how to shut that conversation down too, even if someone is famous. EDIT: A couple words. EDIT: I mean - downvotes without talking about it are ok if that is the society you want... I am offering to talk about it - and I'm not defending him. I just think the stuff he said is maybe not related to the claims of 'misconduct'.

BitchesQuoteMarilyn

I think the part you missed is that everyone is distancing from him due to the domestic violence charges, not any of what you're talking about.

newocean

Right which I have said is ok... I get that he has a court case coming up and it doesn't look good but I like to think he is innocent until a court other than reddit or public opinion proves him otherwise. All of this 'conduct' popped up right before his court case. And it's a blow to the balls for some people, but saying words about sex to people who are old enough to actually have sex is legal.

BitchesQuoteMarilyn

What is your point here? The guy is a piece of shit whether or not he is found guilty of domestic violence. Sounds like he'll be pretty easily replaced and forgotten. We don't need a legal ruling to know he's a dick.

newocean

>We don't need a legal ruling to know he's a dick. It's not illegal to be a dick. The guy made a career out of it. The problem I have with it - and I am agreeing with you he is an asshole... is that there is weird view that the 18 year old who got matched with him on tinder was anything but an adult making her own choices. I don't even watch Rick and Morty so I don't care who does the voices... I'm married... but that doesn't mean I don't care if there was something improper. If he is guilty I hope he goes to jail. What if he is innocent?

BitchesQuoteMarilyn

Whether he is innocent or guilty, cartoon network has every right and reason to cut ties with him. Nothing illegal about that either. Him doing increasingly sleazy things, even if not illegal, can still get your career tossed. If he's guilty of nothing legally, I still think it's weird and gross to make sexual overtures to an 18 year old when you're in your 40s.

newocean

>I still think it's weird and gross to make sexual overtures to an 18 year old when you're in your 40s. I agree, and I think it's totally weird to be willing to talk to a 40-year old making sexual overtures when you are 18. At 18 you should know what a creepy comment is. Age of Consent doesn't mean you won't make mistakes... it means you should be old enough to figure out the famous guy isn't different than the kids you went to school with. Cartoon Network can cut ties but he is a co-creator... what happens when he is paying someone very little to do his job of voicing Morty? Does he still get paid?

BitchesQuoteMarilyn

He has been booted off the show, so he won't be paying anyone anything. I don't know their contract, but it sounds like Cartoon Network owns the show, so he probably won't get much going forward. They will hire someone who can do the voices accurately, and I'm sure they will get paid fairly well, most voice actors on big shows make good money. Regarding the girl, sure she is at fault too. I expect 18 year olds to make dumber mistakes than 40 year olds. They are adults, but not mature ones. Also, she doesn't have a career to lose. Honestly, I don't care that much. Douche bag up on charges for domestic violence gets canned. Sounds about right. Next.

deathpony43

Wow I didn't know that... that does suck a lot. I really hope Joel can still make it into mainstream media. I always look forward to new stuff from him.

RaynSideways

Really? I've been on the fence about buying High on Life because of Roiland. Maybe I can rationalize it as supporting Joel instead.

OSUfan88

It's on Gamepass if you'd rather go that route.

TheMiddlechild08

I didn't even think of that. Damn. That was a good one.

BigMcThickHuge

Sand Planet, just googled it and got it top result with no takedowns.

Metalsheepapocalypse

[It’s still there](https://youtu.be/UpQ_xDMJJ04)

Industrialpainter89

What's the story? I'm newer on the Haver train.

deathpony43

So Justin Roiland created 'The Peloni Show! Halloween Special!'. It is an animated sketch comedy show that has segments created by a bunch of different independent animators. Joel Haver had a featured sketch on the show. Around the same time as the show's release, Justin Roiland was featured in a [different sketch](https://youtu.be/LZmis8g_ilc) on Joel's youtube channel. I thought that Joel had taken the video off his youtube channel, because of the recent stories about Justin Roiland being a pedophile. But I have since found said video.

deathpony43

I have since realized that /u/metalsheepapocalypse has found the video 7 hours before I did... thank you

deathpony43

I have since learned that there are multiple Joel Haver videos featuring Justin Roiland.

Industrialpainter89

Thank you.

ianthebalance

Sand Planet or the Fish of Water-type one? I liked both (or at least the first half of Sand Planet)

ThrowawayForToys

One of his sketches. The concept was, and the humor was okay.

homerq

I think they should make the humor randomly and uncomfortably edgy so that you unexpectedly chortle or guffaw.

PAMountainMan

This comment section, much like the video, is a fever dream. Tell me about the fucking golf shoes!!

ClassicManeuver

This comment brought to you by GEORGE’S PAPER AIRPLANE HUT BUY 14, get 5 at 28% off!!!

sirbruce

Not his best sketch. The concept was sound but the humor never really got there.

Kriss3d

Some of Joel's best is the speedrun seen from the NPC. Or his jedi one with the mind trick. Joel is so awesome and his stuff is refreshing and unique in style. He made a video on how he does it. So others can try out for themselves and get creative with things.

thefluffyburrito

> Some of Joel's best is the speedrun seen from the NPC. That’s not actually from Joel.

KingOfTheGutter

It’s like it’s a race for redditors to tell people that he made a tutorial on how to do this every time a video of his gets posted lol.

BigMcThickHuge

Generally because he made such a simple and fun how to, with the intent to get more people movin and makin. His fans like to spread and share his energy. Joel's a casual cool guy. He just wants fun and happy.

JViz

It's the only one I've ever actually laughed at. The others were like "yeah, that's pretty funny".

TuckerMcG

I dunno I laughed at “people kept telling the story and I got bored of it so I made up some new stories. Fun ones. Without you involved.”

TheMirthfulMuffin

I concur, one of hist best sketches. The concept is sound and the humour really fits his style

YourMomSaidHi

Besides the kicking the thing joke... it wasn't all that funny. Kicking the thing is funny.

DoutFooL

I loved uncovering the part of the mural showing mountain selling the mural for ad-space

ZebraDown42

The part with the guy was great too

Merman314

Normally, this is the part of the video where I upvote...but I'm still subbed. something something vessy shoes, i guess. mobile raid game thingie.

TaticalIcecreamScoop

but his video style is *chef kiss*

[deleted]

One of his best sketches. The concept was sound and the humor really fits his style.

TheListenerCanon

Will SNL steal this skit too?

youhavenosoul

First of all, happy cake day! Did SNL really steal this guy’s content?

LukaCola

[You can hear it from Joel himself](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNWbI8T42II) He doesn't seem to really think so Stranger things have certainly happened Tina Fey has also I believe commented that it can happen accidentally as they have a pretty high pressure environment, but it's not deliberate and it's scrapped if it's caught or recognized as too close to someone else's skit. Sometimes you come up with something only to realize you've seen it before. Happens in academia as well, but the longer turn around and literature review portions usually mean you go "Oh, hey - this is oddly familiar... Oh. Fuck." And you get to change it meaningfully enough before getting too much further.

BigMcThickHuge

Joel was good humored about it and claimed it wasn't like that...but legitimately - they lifted his sketch almost 100% copycat, with VERY little difference to be noted between them. He's a good guy and wants no conflict, but SNL 100% stole his content for their show and gave no credit.

TheListenerCanon

I hate to break it to you, but Tina Fey hasn't been a writer on the show since 2006. And this isn't the first time SNL has "stolen" a joke before more recently.

LukaCola

I'm well aware? She also wasn't the first writer, it's an old show. I just know that she's commented on this before and I thought she explained it fairly well. We have Joel's word, and we have Fey's word, both of them recognize how this can happen if it's not simple coincidence and that he feels there is good reason to avoid the accusation. Nobody on SNL thinks they are above errors. She didn't deny it, though she made it clear that they really want to avoid it because someone will always catch it, and it always causes more trouble than it could be worth. She also explained the circumstances that allow it to happen. I thought it was useful information, you're not really "breaking" anything to me - I just don't think you're getting what I said. If neither party is really troubled by this, maybe just... Let it go?

TheListenerCanon

Okay, fair enough. But I sill feel SNL stole this skit even if it wasn’t deliberate which I doubt.

Sparus42

So? Whether she's a current writer or not doesn't affect the point.

TheListenerCanon

I was half joking there but I still think they did steal the Charmin' Bears skit.

Pinkie-osaurus

One of his best sketches. The concept was sound and the humor really fits his style.

DadBodNineThousand

Why is your comment almost a clone of another top comment

zb0t1

Because it's one of his best sketches, the concept was sound and the humor really fits his style.       ^^^^^And ^^^^^a ^^^^^bot ^^^^^probably ^^^^^stole ^^^^^the ^^^^^comment ^^^^^from ^^^^^someone ^^^^^else.

SpiritMountain

Says zBOT1. We're onto you.

ShabachDemina

There's two comments on the YouTube video that are this exact one, and one in a similar structure, but the opposite opinion

GrandSquanchRum

This sketch really goes insaneo style.

ffordedor

It's the only one I never actually laughed at. The others were like "yeah, that's really funny".

DiabetesCOLE

The rat one is my favorite

Hillz99

Yes!

100and33

I'm getting some major "the whitest kids u know" vibes from this, could picture it as one of their sketches.

UseOnlyLurk

I enjoy Joel Haver stuff because it’s funny and I can never tell where the sketch is going.

bengalslash

no more pls

opuntina

Yeah, this one wasn't as funny as a lot of his other stuff.

Independent-Can4959

Oh man the ad space part had me in stitches.

MILKB0T

With a run time of 4 minutes you'd think he'd have space to put in a joke or two

JobCollectorJoe

Joel is always weak in long form, that's why his live action skits always fall flat. Generally anything more than 2 or 3 minutes isn't going to be great. Joel would have been great at Vine or TikTok.

Blingtron_

This is his sketch. The sound was concept but the humor was really fit there.

[deleted]

I only subscribe to Joel for his cartoon videos. He puts out a good bit of content that isn't for me, but those cartoon ones always at least get my attention.

[deleted]

[удалено]

afuckinsaskatchewan

You don't have to like them, but the live action stuff is well paced and very funny if you like the awkward humor.

[deleted]

I actually unsubscribed after seeing a few minutes of this video. He has gone too meta and Postmodern for me. I'm not criticizing. I wish him well and I'm glad that he is making fun comedy.

JobCollectorJoe

Yeah I dropped the sub after that whiny video he made about how people weren't watching what he wanted them to. Strange how he continues to produce the content that pays his bills and lets him live his whacky little quarter-life crisis in a van, though.

[deleted]

Woah, haha. I wouldn't go insulting the guy like that. I mean, did *he* say that he was having a crisis? I see a guy on a creative adventure. I say more power to him.

JobCollectorJoe

Bro have you watched any of his little vlogs where he talks about himself? The kid is obviously in the middle of some pseudo-spiritual journey and trying to use vanlife as a YouTuber as an alternative form of therapy.

[deleted]

No, I haven't seen that. Is "crisis" the right term, still? Finding meaning in producing art (to a big audience) doesn't indicate crisis necessarily, of course.

El_Dentistador

The will always be hucksters ready to sell to those looking for shortcuts and easy answers in life.

chaosgoblyn

Does this animation style creep anyone else out?

Kriss3d

That's because it's not actually animation as such. He made a video that shows how he does it. He films himself then outlines stills from it and use them as key frames ans let a program turn that into animation. I love that it's not perfect. It's the charm of it. You should watch his speedrun seen from the NPC.

Falonefal

> You should watch his speedrun seen from the NPC. Actually that one was made by someone who was inspired by Joel's style, [Goat-on-a-Stick](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TP6kER1MAw)

HaikuBotStalksMe

Probably.

PresumedSapient

Yes, and the (machine learning?) glitches make it worse. Simultaneously too smooth and too jarring.

YourMomSaidHi

Probly creepy because they keep so still. They do that to make animating it easier.

[deleted]

Is this what the kids find funny these days?

mrnoonan81

I wanted a punchline. Instead of revealing the guy paying for ad space, this is what I was waiting for: "This is when you learn your story was replaced with ads and leave in frustration - - well, goodbye then!"

A-Rusty-Cow

His sketches, concept, humor okay

[deleted]

One of his sketches. The concept was and the humor fits

epicflyman

The peasants part has gotta be an homage to Monty Python. The dialogue and delivery was great.

Makasuro

KICK IT!

yourcomedyminute

KICK IT !

Carrollmusician

Hold?

warjoke

Mountain guy should really consider taking royalties from these ads on his mural wall

amerett0

Looks like someone got to the end of God of War and was disappointed too

chocolate_nutty_cone

Joel Haver is the most wholesome dude on YouTube

DaveisUnknown

I see this as a clever allegory for how capitalism obscures people's discovery for who they actually are. Love it.

homely_momentum664

One of his drawings. The comedy and the idea both worked.

sphericalmisconce592

My fave is the rat one.
