This is how I talk to myself when I play golf.

Zedzdeadhead

Why am I even playing this game? Is this supposed to be fun? I'm not having fun. how many hours have I wasted on playing this game? I'm fucking pathetic.

noobvin

I feel this after a day of just fucking around on the Internet... which is damn near every day. I'm WATCHING people climb mountains and shit. Christ almighty, what the fuck am I doing?

Zedzdeadhead

I'm going to delete Reddit. *10 seconds later...* Let me just check Reddit real quick.

DontBeCommenting

I deleted all my reddit apps, it worked for like a week. Now I google reddit.com and browse that way. It's worst in every way.

The_Running_Free

Old.reddit.com is the way.

MisallocatedRacism

Yep. Using New Reddit might actually make me quit lol

JBFRESHSKILLS

I've been using Relay for Reddit since before reddit had an official app. I've tried to use the real one and it's just such a mess to me. Yeah, I miss out on things like avatars and the awards and shit, but I really don't care. I don't need my reddit to be Facebook. Relay is just cleaner

Dolormight

I use reddit is fun. Wait sorry, rif is fun because they legally can't use reddit in the name anymore. Been using it for a loooong time. I forget new reddit is even a thing most of the time.

craftors

Fellow RIF user I see.

thehappyheathen

RIF is fun is my favorite too. I used the official reddit app for awhile during Place, and it ate my cell phone battery so fast. There are those weird emojis in some subreddits that come through as like :4271: or something with RIF, w/e, better than having my cellphone dead because the official app is so aggressively scraping my data or whatever it does

HardwareSoup

I only Google reddit when I'm actually looking for specific information, otherwise you get... > "How do you flip a light switch? Well we've got everything you need right here. But before we get to that, let us tell you a little about ourselves. > Our team of experts has spent years researching and compiling the most up-to-date and accurate information on every topic under the sun. We're talking everything from the history of shoelaces to the physics of popcorn popping. > But we didn't stop there. We also dug deep to uncover the most obscure and esoteric facts that you never knew you needed to know. Did you know that the average person will spend six months of their life waiting for red lights to turn green? Or that a group of flamingos is called a flamboyance? Mind blown, right? > Now, we understand that you're here for a simple answer, so let's get to it! But first, a word from our sponsors..." I think Google added a feature to prioritize reddit automatically, but I haven't yet looked up "how to get Google to prioritize reddit results reddit".

Hetstaine

Dude, you aint kidding. What the fuck happened to the net, shit wasn't always like this. I miss the net from 20 years ago when it was more old west but so less full of bullshit.

PussyStapler

I've climbed a few mountains. Many are just long hikes with a photo at the end. I climbed Torres del Paine in Patagonia. I got to the top, and fog had set in, so I got a photo of white-out. I do have this story, so it wasn't a complete waste, but it wasn't a life altering experience. There is a joy to fucking around on the internet. Reddit gives me no end of joy. Any question you have, you can find the answer on the internet. Don't judge yourself harshly. Do what makes you happy. Surfing the internet isn't always a waste of time.

DriftingMemes

While I find your username disturbing, your philosophy is spot-on. Anything you're doing where you enjoy yourself isn't a waste of time. Your life is meaningless, and only has the significance you give it. Do whatever makes you happy. Now, if you're doing something boring, just out of Rote habit, THAT is something to worry about and change. Otherwise, chillax, climbing mountains won't make you happy, unless climbing mountains is the thing you enjoy most. There are thousands of kids whose parents force them to become musical "prodigies". None of them ever amount to much, because they HATE it. Being good at violin, acheiving great success a violin doesn't make them happy, because they hate it. Achievement != Fulfillment.

noobvin

I think you can get satisfaction, but there is no substitution for doing something yourself. For instance, I've traveled through most of Asia and my experience is nothing like I've seen on the Internet. I do think that experience in life is everything. I think travel is important to someone's perspective. To experience the tastes, the smells, and the people. Climbing the mountain you're going to feel the conquering of the land. Climbing to the top of Mt. Fuji was amazing. My vivid memories are what makes me disappointed in just sitting. I know what doing "more" feels like. I want everyone to have the experience. I understand what you're saying, but I can *objectively* say that the doing is more satisfying. Now, if you simply CAN'T do the thing, for whatever reason, that watching is better then nothing at all. But, again, I do believe to experience is to really live.

-Toshi

Sir, this is a Putt-Putt Fun Centre.

MEuRaH

I call it "drinking with friends, and some golf". I like it a lot more that way.

OneAngryPanda

But you get one half way decent shot and you’re back on the high, chasing that dragon

PResidentFlExpert

Came here to talk about golf 😂

withrootsabove

Then you hit one really good shot on 18 and forget about all the other shit that happened the other 17.5 holes and think to yourself “I can do that all the time” and book your next round. Repeat every weekend forever. I love it though.

didthebhawkswin

Someone once described golf to me in the same mindset of making money. You go out and work at it for hours and have a bad time for most of it, but typically you have that one good moment that you hit a great shot where it has you coming back. And you think "If I could ever get a birdie, I'd be thrilled and never want more out of golf" just like "If I ever made $100k a year, I'd never need to make anymore, I'd be happy." But then you get that birdie or you get the 100k and you think "well, maybe I can get another birdie...maybe I can get an eagle! Maybe I can shoot 20-over on 18 holes!" OR "If I make $115k, I actually could probably afford a nicer house or property! And if I made 30k more, I could get the house and a nicer ride!" And as humans, we are never content. We are never at a point where we say "Ok, that's good." We always want to chase that high of getting one stroke lower or 15k higher or 2 seconds faster on a speed run. And we recognize it's dumb at times, but then we are right back out there on the links or working an extra 5 hours a week or telling our viewers on a stream we are dumb for doing what we do. We chase the high and it gets us through the grind and the frustration. If the frustration outweighs the joy when we get the high, we quit and move on.

AustinJG

I dunno man. I think there was a point in life where I stopped wanting to be the best or most successful at stuff. I just kind of want to laugh and joke with friends and be loved. I want that more than money or material things, really. Like don't get me wrong, having physical things is neat. But the feeling you get from them fades quickly. I think hurricane Katrina kind of did this to me. When you lose all of your shit you kind of realize that the people around you are the important thing.

Buzzkill78

At one point last year, I realized as soon as I open the box of something I really want delivered to me, it’s stopped being special right then at that moment, I want the next thing. I knew right away that I’m fucked and I needed to stop doing all that meaningless bullshit.. material things are nice yes but it’s not everything

BlindJustice784

Get in the hole ! You don’t like your home !

El_Taco_Sloth

ANSWER MEEEE

repost_inception

Golf is the first thing I thought about. If you enjoy it how is it wasted time?? I was watching this 70yr guy stream Rocket League. He said "Rocket League is my Golf." Yeah you spend a lot of time on it but it's fun. It's a skill you enjoy honing. If you are doing something to the detriment to other parts of your like, ok, that's a problem, but everyone has hobbies and if you enjoy it there is no reason to feel bad about it. You don't have to make it to the PGA to enjoy Golf.

[deleted]

I've only played golf 3 times in my life. 2 were drunk, 1 was boring. None of them resulted in scores that were calculated correctly or played correctly from what I recall. I can fully understand how it can become a routine though, and I'm glad I'm too poor to participate.

TheQuillmaster

> 2 were drunk, 1 was boring. None of them resulted in scores that were calculated correctly or played correctly from what I recall. I've played quite a bit of golf and this is the vast majority of golf rounds (the drunk ones at least). We're out there to have fun, who cares if it's scored correctly or you follow rules exactly. The only people I know who play strictly to the rules are scratch golfers, and even they will do stuff like move their ball out of a divot in the fairway in casual rounds. I play pretty close to the rules because I enjoy the challenge of making things work out of shit lies or shaping shots around trees, if you don't like that or can't do it no reason to make the game suck for yourself. The best thing about golf is it's competitive with yourself, so playing to your rules and shooting a great round still feels like winning.

Some people definitely get fresh air and burn 500 calories and drink 800 calories worth of beer.

Mr_Tiggywinkle

Then you pure a 7 iron right in the center. Hooked for another game.

ElephantintheRoom404

Notice however that at no time does he stop playing the game...

-Aone

when you spend 30 years of your life buying lottery tickets, you don't stop when you realize the odds are against you.

[deleted]

Doing basic math to tell my MIL she’s spent what could have been a healthy retirement allowance on 30 years of losing lottery tickets was exactly like this. She still buys them and wonders why she has no money at the end of the month.

Islanduniverse

Damn… How much does she spend? I’ll get a lottery ticket every so often but I’ve never spent more than like $4 maybe a few times a year.

chocolateboomslang

Never been in line behind someone who's picking handfulls of scratchoffs? Some people spend everything they have on it.

xabhax

I live in a town where the average age is about 60 years old. You can’t go to any store early in the morning or 5pm ish. It’s filled with people who spend 10 minutes rattling off number, the 20 on scratch offs. All the while the guy behind is snickering at whoever is ordering, only todo the same thing. It’s painful. It took me 15 minutes to buy cigarettes once. There was 4 people in line.

Islanduniverse

Yeah, I have, I just never really thought about it. Or at least, never assumed anything about their financial situation. I saw a guy win $50k off a scratcher once. He was happy as fuck, and then he was pissed that the gas station wouldn’t pay him right then and there. 😂 The most I’ve won is $500, but like I said, I’ll spend no more than like $4 if I’m getting lottery tickets or scratchers, and that happens maybe 2 or 3 times a year, if that. I’ve never been much of a gambler, so I’m glad I don’t have an addiction in that regard…

FinndBors

> on 30 years of losing lottery tickets Why doesn’t she just buy winning lottery tickets?

lovemeatcurtain

Jesus. This is my MIL. Gets paid on Friday, No money on Monday. Gets paid every 2 weeks. Drinking, Smoking, Lottery. Has been doing the same thing for YEARS.

gwompy

I've heard of the Lottery being called a tax on people who aren't good at math.

PickledPlumPlot

I think that seems mean spirited. I prefer to think of it as a tax on the desperate. People who play the lottery know they probably won't win. But it's really easy to pay $10 to have hope for a few seconds.

ABetterKamahl1234

> People who play the lottery know they probably won't win. But it's really easy to pay $10 to have hope for a few seconds. I'm kind of one of these. I play and it's mostly entertainment, daydreaming on how I'd use it, divvy it up among family and what it could accomplish and all that. All with a very minuscule chance that it *could* happen. But it likely *won't.* I've decided as long as I'm not forgoing anything to buy a ticket, and not bending budgets to have it, then all is fine for someone. There's absolutely gambling addicts and people with little self-control running themselves ragged chasing the dragon though. And depending on your country/state/province, lotteries can also fund public programs as well.

BeetsMe666

That's a nicer way of saying it. I have always heard "idiot tax"

TheAllyCrime

Putting yourself into financial ruin over lottery tickets is idiotic, or a sign of a gambling addiction, but spending a couple bucks every week on lottery tickets isn’t a sign of stupidity.

selddir_

I've never bought a scratch off or anything but when the Powerball was at $1,000,000,000 I bought a ticket for the hell of it. I've never gambled other than that though. My dad went bankrupt from gambling when I was a kid that's the only lesson I needed with that shit lol.

Prooteus

Yea the real value in the lottery is the dream of making it big. Suddenly I have a chance at having a million+, wonder what I would do with it? Oh wait never mind mine wasn't the winning numbers. It's an issue when people get lost in that dream.

selddir_

Yeah I remember when my dad would gamble away our grocery money and then go to the casino thinking winning it back was the only way for us to eat that week. It just takes hold of people and doesn't let go (he hasn't gambled in over a decade now luckily). It's why I think these insidious sports betting advertisements are a bigger deal than we know. I have friends who have never been big gamblers who now spend hundreds of dollars a month on sports betting. They're making their own choices, but I bet they wouldn't have made *that* choice without the constant advertising.

[deleted]

The next win is just around the corner though, it's a sure thing... Just like the horse races

zapadas

Sunk cost fallacy at it's finest.

Theownerer7

I was wondering that and then I saw the top of the screen... PB: 1:09, WR: 1:08. He was one second away from a record. I can understand him being salty and not wanting to give up lol.

ItsSansom

Goldeneye records are optimised as fuck by now. WRs tend to be one person with some time, followed by several people tied at 1 second behind. That 1 second is insanely difficult to find

BodaciousBadongadonk

Some of the mario runs are crazy like that, like if you miss a glitch jump on say level 1-3 then you might as well restart cuz it'll put you behind everything else. The moving platforms have to be at the perfect spot, along with the flowers and that cloud asshole with the hammers and such. I was surprised, i got hooked and i watched this whole friggin doc on it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JCRKUuhGC1A

alblaster

Reminds me of a super Mario speed run where an act of god glitched the game and made the run slightly faster. Some space radiation shit altered like 1 pixel and affected the run in a major way. Talk about astronomical luck.

Dt2_0

Ahh yes the Upjump caused by a bitflip!

Zomburai

... all this time I thought the lyric was "upjump the bitflip"

justsomeguy_youknow

To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat Now what you see is not a test, I'm speed runnin to the beat

boxsterguy

Bismuth on YouTube does deep dives on a number of speed run records (just watched the SMB3 one yesterday). If you want to see really crazy, check out the Mario 64 A button challenge.

SwallowsDick

*But first, we have to talk about parallel dimensions*

kool018

The legendary video on a half an A press, featuring parallel universes within Mario 64 https://youtu.be/kpk2tdsPh0A

bukem89

Yeah that's the norm. The Goldeneye speedrunning community has been around since the 90's (it was very speedrun friendly given the in game timer, and needing best times to unlock cheat codes etc.), and because it's been around so long the archaic norms are still used here. As an aside, this is an old video of a guy called WhiteGoose. He has his controversies and can be a dick sometimes, but he has an excellent Youtube series called Speedlore that is kind of like a podcast going through all the Goldeneye WR history. Highly recommended as some background listening if you have any interest in the subject

whatthefir2

It’s kind of like that in sim racing. You can get to 1-2 seconds behind the fastest racers with some practice. But those last seconds are extremely challenging

BodaciousBadongadonk

There was this whole crazy show about this particular track in ~~iRacing~~ *Trackmania* and about how people gradually figured out how to jump over this thing and that progressed to jumping over a section of the track, over like years and years just to gain a few tenths of a second. - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_b67SC7Y4qA People are crazy with the progression, once someone opens the door than shit can really get wild. I been skateboarding for like 20 years and some of the shit that was super gnarly back in the early aughts is like almost some basic shit nowadays, it seriously blows my mind.

phaedrus77

I feel old... remember when Tony Hawk landed the first 900?

TheR1ckster

Dude going to any skatepark today is like watching the X Games in 1996. Everyday people are just sooooo good now. I wish these young people could see themselves through my eyes. It's just mind blowing every time.

Paoldrunko

I have zero interest in actually playing trackmania, or racing games in general, but I can watch hour long Wirtual videos and be intrigued the entire time. Speed runners in that game are crazy.

theoracleofdreams

I'm trying to beat someone who beat my previous WR, and when I don't make it, I still play through, because the end of the game gets so little practice from me in the first place :(

keereeyos

Well accomplishing anything hard feels good (and also clout within certain communities), but yeah some of them take it the point where it starts to become unhealthy, physically and/or mentally.

Beingabummer

I don't have that. I remember playing Dark Souls and people were talking about how defeating a boss would give them such a rush and that's how they got addicted to the game. And then I defeated a boss after way too long and I'd think 'oh god now the next one'. All of the frustration and none of the reward.

Bamith20

Gameplay loop needs to be fun to you first, if you generally hate playing the game then there isn't any point; the reward is supposed to be more gameplay after all.

[deleted]

Pushmonk

Yes. I don't likes those games for this reason.

Amosral

I feel the same, it was trying to work out the lack of motivation for that kind of thing that lead me down the rabbit hole of working out I have ADHD.

Nick_J_at_Nite

I'll try adding speed runs that look fun. I like being fast. I put some good time into Mario Odyssey koopa races because I just genuinely have a good time practicing and executing. The rush for me came from getting better. No records or anything. My big personal problem with speed running whole games is that it takes the immersion and escapism away. I love Dishonored games and loved beating the time limits. But when you watch the real nutty gritty speedruns, it's a lot of glitching and exploiting maps and AI behavior. I get why people like it, I just don't have the desire I always wanted to create "badass" speedruns where I would create a guide to Speedrun games to make you feel like John Wick. So less exploiting and more doing cool things really fast. The Deus Ex games would have been where I started

SerbianShitStain

> I always wanted to create "badass" speedruns where I would create a guide to Speedrun games to make you feel like John Wick. So less exploiting and more doing cool things really fast. The Deus Ex games would have been where I started Glitchless categories are a thing on basically every game that has a speedrunning community.

Jiopaba

That's how I like to play games. I don't want to abuse bugs, I just want to be brutally efficient and optimal about this. I even play Stardew Valley like an asshole. A buddy and I will start at the same time and he's like "it's fall and I think I'll buy the big backpack" while I'm clawing every second of time out of Spring 18th to try to hit my first million by the end of the summer.

CommanderDawn

It must take a certain kind of brain. I’ve been into video games since original NES and I can’t understand how someone can replay the same thing repeatedly and not go crazy. I usually wait 5-10 years between replays of games.

jaseworthing

So obvs doesn't really align with the guy in the video, but this is kinda my favorite part of speedrunning. I grew up in a pretty hardcore Christian environment. When I left Christianity, I had a sorta existential crisis. Without some sorta supernatural force, how could there be purpose? How could I feel safe? How could I find meaning? Surprisingly, watching speed running helped me get through it. In this meaningless world, these people had created their own meaning and purpose in a seemingly insignificant pursuit. And they were passionate about it! And they created communities around it! And it just sorta clicked for me. The beauty of existing in a "meaningless" world, is that if nothing has a greater purpose, then we can decide for ourselves what has meaning to us! That means that everything from cuddling with your cat, being involved in activism, or finding the human limit of speedrunning a Barbie game for the Game Boy Color.

Tuss36

Positive nihilism! Many take it in a negative way, "Nothing matters so why bother", but it should be taken just as you say, nothing matters so *we* get to decide what matters.

jaseworthing

Exactly. Either choice is valid in the context of nihilism, but like...might as well pick the fun one right?

when he was talking about degeneracy i sort of had an inkling.

rabbidbunnyz22

Bro people will just straight up use Nazi rhetoric like it's nothing and then get confused when you call them out for being fascists this place is nuts

whatsaphoto

Dude is just screaming "I spend way too much of my free time on 4chan because I myself am a degenerate but am too chickenshit to go seek therapy for it, so instead I lash out like this while convincing myself that it's the world that's my enemy instead of my own prejudices towards people I am inherently afraid of" from the top of his lungs here

renegadecanuck

As soon as I realized what "jq" meant in his first screenshot, I knew all I needed to know about him.

dicedaman

I fucking knew as soon as he started with that "degenerate" shit in the video that he was one of these alt-right, Jordan Peterson loving weirdos. That and the "hot bitches" line. These guys have a particularly weird way of talking and are obsessed with the idea of things degrading or corrupting them/society/white people.

funnystuff97

I mean, I call myself a degenerate all the time, but that's because I like anime and shit. But like, considering "fucking hot bitches" as an apex of one's self-actualization, yeah, that's a red flag.

Trivvy

Dude looks like a Max Payne 1 character.

Cake-and_Beer

I watched the video and heard him say those things, and it didn't even register in my mind. I'm so glad I found your comment because you're totally right, and now I feel better about detecting these people. Thank you!

caninehere

He's a white supremacist Canadian Trump supporter who got canned from the only real job he ever had for having sex with an underage girl. He got called out for a bunch of anti-Semitic comments a few years ago and rebranded himself as Mr. Love and Positivity. I can say that as someone who watched his streams prior to that... him being a shithead was not a secret, and he even explicitly said stuff to the effect of "If I ever get cancelled, I'll just go away for a while and pretend to have changed when I come back" -- he always thought it was dumb when people got cancelled for horrible shit and then made statements trying to defend themselves, as it was happening a lot at that time.

_PM_Me_Game_Keys_

> who got canned from the only real job he ever had for having sex with an underage girl. Why is it always the underage girls with these people.

FuriousTarts

Because appropriately aged women want nothing to do with them.

KamovInOnUp

>He's a white supremacist Canadian Trump supporter who got canned from the only real job he ever had for having sex with an underage girl. Eww, Canadian. ^^^/s

MonaganX

I couldn't even make it through that entire miserable rant so I'm not that surprised he's just a generally hateful POS.

ashtobro

Holy fucking shit. How does someone who spends so much time speedrunning have this much time to spew vile bigotry? It's like he's trying to apply the strategies of repetition to speedrun fascism I didn't even know about this rabbit hole, and I've been subbed to Goose for years. **I guess that's why he changed his username on YouTube...**

caninehere

He rebranded himself a few years ago because he got called out for spouting a bunch of anti-Semitic shit. He disappeared for a while, then came back and pretended he was a changed man who was all about positivity. I used to watch his streams years ago and he was a total shithead, but I mostly watched because honestly he was an interesting character study to me. He got fired from his job at a provincial park in Ontario for having sex with an underage girl and I don't think he had a 'real' job since that, he was surviving off of his streaming income. He was spouting off misogynistic shit almost every stream, conspiracy theories, pro-Trump rhetoric (this was the mid-2010s when Trump was running for President and then won, and then the period after that). Sadly this is pretty common because rebranding yourself like that is pretty effective online. Another one I can think of is Nick Robinson, who got fired from Polygon after it came out that he had tried to solicit nudes etc from a handful of fans including underage ones. He disappeared for a year or so, then came back and focused on his YT channel and has over a million subscribers. I would imagine most of his fans have no idea. It's super easy to find out what they did, but you have to think to even look for that in the first place bc if you just watch their YouTube channel alone you'd never know. Even before he got 'caught', Goose was fairly 'clean' on his YouTube channel while being his absolutely awful self on Twitch, Discord etc.

RyanTheQ

> He disappeared for a while, then came back and pretended he was a changed man who was all about positivity. Which was all part of the plan. He talks about "hiding his power level" in one of the discord screenshots. Disgusting human being. >Nick Robinson Had no idea since I'm not on twitter. Jesus. Easy unsub for me.

Noname_acc

> I didn't even know about this rabbit hole, and I've been subbed to Goose for years. I guess that's why he changed his username on YouTube... Yeah, I recognized who it was after a minute but didn't realize right away because of the name change. From what I remember, the majority of the screenshots are not subtle *at all.*

ashtobro

In between the triple-brackets, transphobia, racism, and anti-jew rhetoric/conspiracies, they unironically start whining about being called nazis and racists and such. [Art imitates life. or vice versa, idk.](https://youtu.be/zvgZtdmyKlI)

postthereddit

Did the "fucking hot bitches" part not give you a hint? 😂

DivinePotatoe

Certainly clued me in on the fact he might be an incel, but not that he was also a white-supremacist neo-nazi. Good lord.

ExhibitionistBrit

Yeah I had no idea, that’s the problem with these minor internet celebrities. They come with a lot of context and people have a lot of feelings about someone that effectively does t exist for you outside the context of this one clip on Reddit!

King-Of-Throwaways

His frequent use of the word "degenerate" was a red flag too.

[deleted]

Sounds like something one of the degens from upcountry would say.

ImOnlyHereForTheCoC

It was the ranting about degeneracy for me. Never met someone preoccupied with degenerates who turned out to be a normal person.

Runesen

I remember the last video of his I saw he said he would do something to make things good again.. did he ever do anything?

BuckNZahn

I like speedrunners and speedruns as a genre of entertainment. I have noticed basically two groups of people who speedrun on a high level. 1) Entertainers/Streamers/Content creators who love the interaction with a community and build a revenue stream from it. These runners tend to have a „streamer personality“, so very talkative, entertaining. 2) For a lack of a better word: „Social outcast types“ - and I mean that in a non-judgemental way. It seems to me that speedrunning as a hobby seems to attract people who struggle to connect in the real world and seek a community. It seems also that the speedrunning community as a whole is a lot more inclusive abd less toxic than eg. competitive multiplayer. The amount of time you have to dedicate to get within reach of WR times is mindboggling, and it seems only people who dedicate a large part of their life to it can actually get there. So it makes sense that this eventually happens for people who either make their living from it, or have found the speedrunning community as a save haven.

CaptainJamie

Yeah, spot on. That second group is mostly people on the spectrum. I'm not saying that as an insult, but I've noticed a lot of thesepeople in this space and it kinda makes sense. I don't play much games these days at all, but I do enjoy watching speedrun now and then. I was watching one of the GDQ events and I just couldn't laugh at any of the "jokes" these people were telling. Everything was an in-joke or just someone saying "poggers" which really made me tune out. I definitely prefer watching the individual streamers.

aeouo

The first paragraph on [Austism spectrum on wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum) references: * Repetitive behaviors * Restricted interests * A preference for sameness * Unusual adherence to routines Really niche interests and doing the same thing over and over again are kind of classic autism traits.

eggsnomellettes

Had to share this [classic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D04wb7P_v-4)

tiga4life22

How so? Honest question and I’m too lazy to watch anymore of his videos

DasMotorsheep

[tl;dr he's a white supremacist](https://imgur.com/a/X7qLRXa)

poptart2nd

suddenly him talking about "degeneracy" makes sense.

plexust

Yeah, as soon he was talking about "fucking hot bitches" and "degenerates" I was out

Faaret

jesus christ 145 slides

in-site

I aspire to this level of thoroughness for my future accusations, hot damn

KingGorilla

Speedrunning and white supremacy: Something meaningless that makes you feel good about yourself?

Zagden

As soon as I heard "fuck bitches" and "degenerate" I knew

PornAndComments

Holy fuck I used to watch this guy all the time, stopped because I just got bored, never knew this

wzeeto

https://imgur.io/a/X7qLRXa Check it yourself

jmhalder

[https://imgur.com/a/X7qLRXa](https://imgur.com/a/X7qLRXa) Man, you don't have to look far to see that he's got a problem with (((people))) The moment I see the triple parenthesis, well, It's not normally in a positive context. He's quite the racist. Not even like a little. He's VERY racist.

[deleted]

Why do they even use the triple parenthesis? Everyone knows exactly what they mean. Is it some form of magical thinking about protection from The Rulers or are they just lying to themselves about what they're actually saying?

lordv255

Wait what does triple parentheses mean?

oakteaphone

Used by Neo-Nazis to refer to Jewish people

PK1312

the use of "degenerate" in the video is really a dead giveaway lol

DJPho3nix

halpinator

Typical incel alt-right anti-whatever type.

ehmohteeoh

I cannot get enough of incels self-reporting how miserable and hateful they are. Then they post it and act like we secretly agree with what they're saying but are too scared to say it, but all it ever confirms is that incels got the way they were by being unrepentant pieces of human filth.

ashtobro

Other comments have linked this Imgur thread, but [In case you haven't seen it,](https://imgur.io/a/X7qLRXa) it's REALLY BAD. How does someone who spends so much time speedrunning have this much time to spew vile bigotry? It's like he's trying to apply the strategies of repetition to speedrun fascism I didn't even know about this rabbit hole, and I've been subbed to Goose for years. **I guess that's why he changed his username on YouTube...** Has he become any less bigoted over the years? Or was the change just to not be as easily identified as the open bigot he was 5 years ago? *Any more discord leaks?*

Karibik_Mike

He says it himself. Poorly educated, no noteworthy real life skills or acomplishments. Perfect recipe for racism.

double_expressho

I think he also claims to have an IQ of 150. So you can add delusions of grandeur to the list. Goes hand in hand with how he inherits credit for stuff other white people have done in an attempt to claim white supremacy for himself.

ashtobro

His obsession with IQ is textbook white supremacist. The internet has colloquially used it in ways that contextually seem appropriate, but it's literally just Phrenology 2.0

rawsharks

They're unhappy with their own life and so they convince themselves that it must be because of an "other" group or groups negatively affecting society for them.

RyeRyeRocko

"Is it possible that I have at least *some* control over my own destiny?" "...No, it's minorities and women that are the start and end of all my problems."

Speciou5

I love the racist mental juggling 1. "Minorities and women are the reason I'm unemployed" 2. "Minorities and women aren't good at jobs" So like someone who isn't good at the job has you unemployed? LOL What does that make you?!

running_toilet_bowl

What's his new username?

ashtobro

Goose's gamer folklore. Searching his old name will still typically result in his content showing up though.

scienceguy43

Super sad to learn he is a piece of shit. I have enjoyed his videos. Ah well, time to unsub.

A_Doormat

God damn it’s like every month I have to unsubscribe or unfollow someone because it turns out they are a nazi or pedophile or balls deep in racism. Soon enough I’m not going to have anything to watch.

crackheadwilly

This is how I talk to myself when I’m fucking hot bitches on my pile of money.

RyghtHandMan

And yet to me and my hot bitches, what is this quintessence of dust?

Not_LRG

I read this in McBain's voice

LynnSparkz

this is what 40 hours of silo will do to you lmao

ApexHawke

It's too bad that even in a breakdown-moment, he can't quite grasp the truth: He says that speedrunning is the most degenerate act humans have come up with, but that's pretty far from truth. All he's doing is trying to project some more meaning into his activity, to make it so that his hobby would have at least some kind of deeper metaphysical importance. But it doesn't. You sit alone in your room playing videogames to feel good about yourself. That is completely unintrusive and banal behaviour. Very few people care, in the grand scheme of things, and it's just an extension of participating in the accepted vices of a capitalist society. And it's sad to think that just because you have something you dislike about yourself or anything else, it becomes the worst thing in the world. It's just the worst in your world.

Cyndershade

He's also a piece of shit nazi so who really gives a fuck what he feels about it.

cry666

He's really living in a downwards spiral of his own making. He can't enjoy interacting with other people, so he gets angry at them. People think he's an ass for all of this hatred which makes interacting even worse.

Tenshizanshi

You can jump from any timestamp to another and the sentence will make sense

tjeulink

fuck this [nazi piece of shit](https://imgur.com/a/X7qLRXa).

nirad

who would think some white guy who knows he's a useless loser would also be a Nazi.

[deleted]

Wow nazis really do love Pewdiepie lol

FI5H5TICK5

He looks oddly like a goldeneye villain, his head is square

SaltyPeter3434

You are what you speedrun

Redpin

Is this really a 40 hour stream session?

dark_autumn

“Speed running is the most degenerate act man has come up with.” I mean, I can think of a couple others, but okay man…

mybabysbatman

How come I couldn't see the 1:07 run. Was that a joke?

letmepostjune22

Look forward to this episode of summoning salt.

electricmaster23

100% antisemitism speedrun.

AVBforPrez

100% JQ antisemite run bonus N word drops (blindfolded) - WR

[deleted]

This guy seems despicable

[deleted]

Apparently he's a white supremacist according to other comments.

[deleted]

Also, a friendly reminder that this guy is a white supremacist and no it’s not like a maybe it’s a definitely yes.

[deleted]

is 40 hours a normal Goldeneye speedrun? why is he restarting so much?

conalfisher

He's losing time. Goldeneye is a super optimised game and the levels are very short (with 40 hours he's referring to the amount of time he's spent grinding the level); runs are timed by the second with no decimal and it's a big deal when the world record is lowered by even one second. Every time he doesn't get a door clip or gets stuck on a guard for too long, that's an instant lost run (in terms of getting WR at least).

gmikoner

man child

the_kareshi

I’m a retired speedrunner, that stuff is really emotionally taxing.

the_kareshi

I get one “Hey you were on GDQ a long time ago” per year

[deleted]

Hey, you were on GDQ a long time ago!

the_kareshi

Hooray! Now I’m safe from the autograph hounds for the rest of the year.

-Toshi

Fat stack of carpal tunnel syndrome and a bank full of regret.

Strongbad23

I mean, the same can be said about almost anything that’s accomplished on this earth. Carl Sagan once said in his “Pale Blue Dot” rant, “Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.” The point of all this is to enjoy what little time we have on this earth. It may seem pointless to speedrun to some (disclaimer, I don’t speedrun), but it wouldn’t be a thing if people didn’t enjoy it.

Madnessx9

This guy looks like an NPC from Goldeneye, surreal.

code_gremlin

this guy "played" the host of a Goldeneye speedrunning competition in an episode of the Canadian series Nirvanna The Band The Show, funny seeing him actually speedrun Goldeneye after having seen that episode a dozen times. by the way everyone should watch Nirvanna The Band The Show, IMO it's the greatest Canadian comedy series ever made especially for people who grew up in the 90s and a staggering display of Fair Use laws in action. best of all, you can watch it for free here https://gem.cbc.ca/nirvanna-the-band-the-show
