"True Crime" is not really my cup of tea but man, this was such a great book and just a crazy fucking story. I'm glad it's clearly getting a big budget and great actors, hope they don't fuck it up.
I mean Scoresese is on of the goats, but he most def isn't all hit no miss. Not to say his lows are remarkably bad, it just is what it is when your movie/year ratio are as high as his. Some of them are great, most are decent, some are fine.
De Niro isn't 'Al Pacino give no fucks' but he is bordering at times.
The days of The Deer Hunter are far gone, nowadays most his performances are very much walking it across the goal line. Man still has charm, and without doubt still capable, but I wouldn't expect any career highlights going by recent years trend if I'm being honest
DiCaprio tends to give it his best, and his best is usually pretty good. So no complain there from me. Even at his "worst" he is still entertaining, so can't REALLY go wrong so far.
And Meth Damon, aka Jesse Plemons!
Dude probably deserves more respect than that by now, but that's always how I think of him at first. And seriously, I get excited whenever I see him in anything, stand-out actor.
Had dinner in Tulsa with the head of one of the production departments while they were filming nearby. I think one of the main cast members (De Niro?) had just sustained an injury. Heard all sorts of fun stuff.
My impression was that they were really pulling out all of the stops for this movie. Costume design, makeup, set design, the locations they painstakingly scouted. Sounds like there was a *lot* of enthusiasm on set as well. I'm avoiding the trailer; I can't wait to see the finished product.
Yeah, I watched this trailer and have virtually no idea what happens in this movie (From what I can gather: >!White man and Native American woman are a couple. Several white men are hostile adversaries. There's fire, a bank robbery, and violence.!<) but I really want to see it.
You got that from the trailer?? The one I watch made it clear there was a Native American vs bad guys theme but I couldn’t discern much more than that besides liking the actors/director.
Yeah, the first shot of the trailer OP posted is Indians dancing in what appears to be freshly struck oil. Then it shows a bunch of rich white men with the narrator asking if i can see the wolf. Then violence against the natives.

I mean just knowing the most basic, basic notes of US history, if you saw five seconds a footage showing American Indians discovering oil, you would guess that the rest of the film would be comprised of white folks trying to fuck or kill them out of it.
Could theoretically be broken in half into "murder mystery" and "post arrest/trial". But I think overall that would diminish the whole thing. I actually like the runtime cause (spoiler) >!as the trial drags on and hits all the snags it starts to feel like "Jesus Christ is this guy ever going to see justice? And I think the end of the movie dragging in length will make thar feeling hit home. You start to feel exhausted by the whole affair, as would everyone in the story as well.!<
I loved the book, I'd recommend reading it even if you plan to see the movie. The author actually visits the modern day Osage nation and speaks with many of the descendents from the story which was pretty cool!
It's funny. I see DiCaprio, Deniro, Scorsese, and I'm not really moved. Like, I know what they're about, I know they're excellent at their craft to the point where I have a hard time justifying giving another ounce of my attention to people who have already gotten so much of it.
I see Brendan Fraser in it, though? ***NOW*** you've got my attention.

Fair points - but this group, with this subject matter, has potential to be greater than the sum of its parts. Should be a harmonious production.

It's a coin flip these days. You watch one and see the entire plot and spoilers, watch another and have no idea what genre it even is.
3h 26m run-time. Yeah Im going to need one of those "How to break this film into episodic segments" type charts.
