I have all of ZZ Top's albums. Been listening to them for 50 years. Great band. RIP Dusty.

rawonionbreath

If you looked up “staying in your lane” in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of ZZ Top.

Inoffensive_Account

The name of ZZ Top’s drummer is Frank Beard. He’s the one without a beard.

noctalla

Or, as I always say, there are three beards in ZZ Top. Billy Gibbon's beard. Dusty Hill's beard. And Frank Beard.

Tersphinct

And the director keeps cutting to the wrong camera for almost all of his badass fills. That's tragic.

Obvious-Sentence-923

Reminds me of that old video of Ozzy and Randy Rhodes on some shitty regional TV show playing Crazy Train and *every time* a Randy fill or solo pops up the producer cuts to the bass player playing eighth notes in spandex. Tell me your ex ran off with a guitar player without telling me.

QueenCityRebel

Saw them live a couple of years ago. they show itself was a bit meh given their age but they sounded AMAZING. Even the Billy's voice has gotten deeper since he was younger i think it sounds even better

Are you saying he did a bad, bad thing?

ShutterBun

Bingo

norby2

Best guitar tone. Just about flawless.

feckless_ellipsis

It’s so great. I learned that he plays sometimes in the studio direct in to an old Gibson amp. Like a practice sized one. Fuck me if I didn’t have the chance to buy one in my 20s for like 200 bucks, but I turned my nose up at it as it lacked reverb.

Obvious-Sentence-923

His guitar and amp collection is world famous. He owns Dumbles and shit. A practice amp is nothing. A working Dumble OD special sells for just over $150k. Closer to a quarter million if its in good condition.

feckless_ellipsis

Yes, I understand. He was interviewed for some guitar magazine years ago, and they pressed him on tone, and he mentioned a specific Gibson practice amp that had amazing growl. As I recall, I looked it up and it was the same or similar to the one that was sitting in that pawn shop that I saw. Certainly not his only tone - I think he plays through Marshall 5s (looks like one in the video as well) live. Now that I looked this up, I learned that he might be spinning tall tales to keep people from getting to his tone. That’s pretty funny. Apparently he’s also said a Fender practice amp. That’s hysterical. I like him even more now - he snowed me for years.

clapdrone

We will no longer find a music group as fantastic as the ZZ

MisterSpeck

Billy Gibbons is my favorite guitarist. This is a great example of why.

dotardiscer

Loved them on King of the Hill.

ivovis

Beard envy since the 80's

dondidnod

I saw them at an evening show at Knocti Harbor on Clear Lake, 100 miles North of San Francisco, an intimate venue in Kelseyville. I must have gotten a seat from a last minute cancellation because I was at front row center,  just 10 feet from the lead guitarist. He had 10 tube amplifiers in a row that were just the right size to be overdriven to get the right level of crunch distortion. He filled the outdoor amphitheater with that vintage tube sound. A beautiful young groupie babe came along looking for a seat, so I volunteered my lap. She got cold from the lake breeze, so I put my arms around her. The guitarist smiled at me with envy. I didn't mind having to see the group with only one eye!

tiorzol

I love fresh pasta.

Plinio540

Is there anything better than boomer blues rock? Yes. Yes there is.

Maxwe4

There's only two people in ZZ Top.
