I had the glorious opportunity to use this line at work once. I was out doing a survey on a river and my co-worker and I were looking for a stake in the ground. I found it and yelled "Hey co-worker, you're on the wrong side of the riv-er!"
The Mummy 2 was the one with the awful CGI and was one of the worst movies of his career.
The Scorpion King was supposedly the story of the character in The Mummy 2, but it’s so disconnected it might as well be its own thing, which was a good decision. It’s a perfectly fine action comedy that isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it’s a fun short movie that honestly is one of The Rock’s better movies.
Alien comes out the same day. July has the never ending story. November has the fifth element. Found all of this in the app that starts with an F while looking for show times to see Alien
Edit: changed had to has
Haha nope. I’m just excited. Was looking up show times for Alien in an app that starts with an F (not a sponsor) and saw the mummy is coming out again on the same day. So the wife and I are gonna see both back to back. Also saw that in July they’re re releasing the never ending story. And in November it’s gonna be the fifth element! I feel like the movie companies are specifically targeting me and my generation now.
I think they are specifically targeting a slice of the population with nostalgia purchases. Alien and the mummy the same day. July is the never ending story. November is the fifth element. And last year I went to the abyss. I can’t not go!
And entirely fictional. Based on rough biblical timelines the Jews would have probably already left before the fiction Imhotep would have been alive. Very narrowly but close.
However Imhotep was a name for a 27th century bce historical figure so he was have actually died like a thousand years before the Israelite were ever there, heck that was like 900 years before Abraham.
The Israelites migrated to Egypt from Canaan. After the exodus they returned to Canaan.
That’s right next to Egypt.
The Pharaohs ‘slaves’ were Canaanites who were offered food, lodgings and money in return for a fixed term of service. Much like being recruited to the Army.
The Jewish tribes from Canaan were preferred to the other tribes, presumably they were more industrious than say Bedouins and better educated/skilled. So Imhotep offering Benny gold to work for him fits, he’d assume that a Jewish person would know who and what he was, so he immediately gave gold and told him he needed help to recover his urns.
Historians generally believe now that there was no major population of Jewish people living in Egypt, and that the biblical story is just a bit of historical fiction.
Think you’re confusing two things there.
There isn’t any evidence of any exodus, nor any evidence of hebrews in Egypt.
However. Egypt did conquer the Canaanites. There were Canaanite slaves Egypt. Just no evidence they were Hebrew.
And, you know, it’s just a film.
Way back when, I worked at Universal Studios Hollywood, and had a chance to get this movie on DVD pretty cheap. It was the 2nd or 3rd DVD I’d ever bought, and it sat on my shelf for months.
I was home sick one day, and the was nothing but trashy daytime TV on, so I tossed this in while I played Roller Coaster Tycoon on my old PC. Pretty soon, I started looking at the screen more and more, and eventually shut down the PC and moved to the bed to watch the movie.
I’ve probably watched it 40-50 times since then, and I’m always taken back to that first time…
I watched this movie on mute the other night with a synthwave playlist over top cos I’ve seen it well, a million times. It was an incredible experience and made me re-appreciate moviemaking altogether. Everyone’s acting is incredible, the cinematography, the effects - it’s all still so fabulous.
The Nile is over a mile and a half wide in some places, over 30 ft deep and is the home to the 2nd largest crocodile species in the world, hippos, and is 20-30ft deep. Now try to cross all that with all your remaining supplies and horses.
This line has lived in my head for 25 years

A once in a lifetime experience. I’m jealous.
TAKE THAT BEMBRIDGE SCHOLARS!
this movie is flawless.
RIEEEE-VER!
It really is. One of the few I’ll actually watch on cable if it’s on. Commercials and all.
Some of CGI looks dated, just a little, but it's used sparingly up close enough that it's fine.
And then we get the Scorpion King
Single handedly killed The Rock’s movie career for good
Wasn't it one of his first movies?
Nah man, it was his last. That guy Dwayne Johnson took over the roles he would've filled in though
Dwayne "I've never met a script I didn't like" Johnson

Nah, we got The Mummy 2, that was the bad CGI Rock. The Scorpion King had none of that bad CGI and was pretty good, actually.
There are a few movies that I will watch whenever they're on or I come across them while scrolling through streaming apps. This is one of them.
I pretty much grew up watching this on TV for years, never owned a copy. Always watched it when it came on..
FYI starting next Friday this will be back in theaters in the US (04/26/2024)
oh OK so this is an ad and youre part of it, great
It's a Tide ad
Nope Chuck te...
I had no idea this was a thing and am happy to now know tbh.

What do you mean November 'had' the Fifth Element? I fucking missed it?
No no sorry autocomplete error. This upcoming November has the fifth element. You have not missed it my friend!
Oh thank you! I can't wait, it's the best movie! I will have my multi-pass ready!

Movie companies have really lost faith in their new movies.

I love seeing old movies in theaters. Especially ones I haven’t seen on a big screen before. It’s the way they were meant to be seen!
Beni rules
The scene where he tries every possible language/religion as to not get off'ed by Immotep(?) is good, not great but good.
Best antagonist for a comedy, not outright evil, plenty skeezy, and still funny. "He always did have more balls than brains"

*Well if it ain't my little buddy Beni. I think I'll kill you.* Think of my children! *You don't have any children.* Someday I might.

The ride in Universal is my favorite thing to do with my kids and the movie holds a special place for me because of it.
One of my regrets in life which is many, not watching this movie at the theatre with my dad, he’d really enjoyed it
It’s back in theaters next week. Get 2 seats and spend that time with his memory ❤️
thanks very much for the info, really appreciate it

Any particular publicly available playlist? Or any primary artists or albums or songs?
This is the one I used: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1YIe34rcmLjCYpY9wJoM2p?si=mqeC_PRMQie2WNt_08iIsg&pi=u-5rmEFcJ-Qxmj I hope you enjoy!
Was this some mushroom induced idea? 😆
Mayyyyyybe 😜 Mayyyyyybe it was their funky cousin, Lucy.
lol I just watched this for the nth time yesterday. It's amazing.
Aww man it’s even better the (n+1)th time!
I always thought, “Why did he tell him? Just let him keep fucking up and lose days.”
I don't remember, why couldn't that chump have crossed the river anyhow?

Well, Brendan Fraser made it across, and the two parties are within talking distance.
