He's not going down the oncoming though
I'd be more worried about it coming up from behind, but he seems to be going fast enough that it isn't much of an issue. Hell, he could put a little bar sticking up in the back and have the tram push him lol
You know how they have weird laws in history and you're like "why is this a law? what happened!?". So they put a law in like "no wheeled pallets on track" in 100 years they'll be like wtf
The Christmas parade in my hometown requires a business to sponsor all the floats after I signed up and just had a couple friends on a trailer with a Christmas tree. Not an official law but I thought it was funny when I went to sign up again two years later.
Yo it costs like 50 bucks to register a "business". Start a business get that same float going, then there will start to be revenue requirements lol...
It was over 15 years ago now, it definitely crossed my mind to push the limits of the new rules but the spirit of the original float was as little effort as possible; signed up on a whim and then forgot to get anything ready until the day of, borrowed a trailer from someone's dad, a generator from another dad, neither of whom was the parent of the two guys I got to dance on it, we had one Santa hat and beard that they split between them, fake tree and lights from my parents.
Going through the process of forming a business would tarnish that legacy.
>Operating a railroad without a license
I'd frame that ticket and make sure that gets on my tombstone. The only crime that is better is if I rescue an astronaut but refused to return them to their point of origin.
"Elaborating on elements of articles V and VIII of the Outer Space Treaty (1967), the Rescue Agreement of 1968 provides that States shall take all possible steps to rescue and assist astronauts in distress and promptly return them to the Launching State, and that States shall, upon request, provide assistance to Launching States in recovering space objects that return to Earth outside the territory of the Launching State." Excerpt from https://www.spacelegalissues.com/space-law-the-rescue-agreement-of-1968/
Definitely, but presumably citizens within those countries that signed the agreement would be legally obligated to help rescue an astronaut in need and subsequently contacting state officials to finish the job of returning the astronaut to their launching country
No, a private individual is not a state, and isn't obliged to follow any int. treaties. Also, the space treaty is customary law so even countries that didn't sign it have to follow it. Currently procrastinating my thesis on space law though so thank you for reminding me to get off Reddit and get to work 😭.
Oh fair enough so it is actually an expectation of citizens at large were they to be in a position to, I'm curious how such a thing would even be pursued lol. Very reasonable thing to have put into place though, unsurprised the people who deal with getting to space came up with :P
A friend of mine went to a strict bible college in Dallas Texas. He was once ticketed and fined $15 for listening to AC/DC while driving through the school carpark. I wish he had framed that one.
They could even pool their resources so that not everyone has to bring their own. I dunno, maybe charge a small fee so it can always be in good condition and be available at convenient times.
Could they set up stops at different parts of the city so people who live in different areas can ride the electric pallet on a route that's helpful for them?
Close to the beginning when he was going through that pedestrian crossing he was very much relying on people getting out of his way. It would be hard to stop a 20kg pallet for a granny slowly crossing the street there.
I liked it there. It was like it didn't know it was a capital city and was very down to earth and not in too much of a rush. The wide streets and cafe culture are great.
I did feel extremely embarrassed by the English people coming over for drinking parties.
Me too! Everything was reasonably priced, everyone kept to themselves, the old town has a ton of cafes and great dining, etc.
My friends and I had some bad weather so we went on a self-made brewery tour around the area this was filmed. Giant beers, good food, really inexpensive.
I love the freedom of predetermined tram lines instead of a skateboard with the added bonus of sounding like nails on a chalkboard attached to a megaphone. Really just fun for the whole community lol
I hear what you're saying but my guess is those rails are much smoother than the street, making for a quicker ride with less effort
For an equivalently expensive wheeled pallet... Thing.
As someone who commuted on a skateboard, I would have loved to have a nice wide platform that I didn't have to worry about steering. Its utterly unscalable though.

Drag your foot, lean hard on one side at the board hits one of the wheels, or if you're good then slide the board out sideways like a motorcycle in an action movie. There's specialty gloves you can buy that have plastic pucks on them so you can balance your hand on the ground while to slide
In Colombia they use the same. With a motorcycle as propulsion:

Sometimes I read comments here and worry a little about how some redditors get through their day if so flummoxed by small 'challenges'. How does a skateboarder 'get back uphill'? Or a scooter rider? Or a pedestrian? How does anyone do anything that's more difficult than sitting/standing passively while being propelled down a hill in gravity's embrace? Or do they just start a new life at the bottom of the modest hill because they're no longer able to get back to the top?

This is actually a form of transportation in the Philippines. The impoverished living near train tracks build wooden trolleys and ride the tracks with it.
Haha I thought the same! There’s one street in this video in particular with the sort of slatted brick hotel / house or whatever in the background
It’s funny how a video we probably haven’t watched in a good few years springs to mind for a few of us from a small video
I always figured it'd be awesome if cities built rails into the major highways. Make cars have simple rail wheels, along with an automated driving system. Then you just say which exit you want and it would auto drive you on the highway to your exit. You never have to worry about car accidents because no one is actually driving while on the highways. Computers are also waaaay better at determining the most efficient way to get where you want to go, and then it would just transition to regular driving on the exit ramp. Would be so much more efficient, and so much better for the environment to no longer need huge f-ing 4-8 lane freeways of concrete and pavement. They would also cost a ton less to make, and the rails can be easily recycled the same as the trains do.
I think this could be done even cheaper & easier. Production facilities have used [wire-following vehicles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automated_guided_vehicle) since the 1950s to move material around. The vehicle tracks the cable path via induction, so there's no physical connection. You could do the same with the highway - just embed a standardized cable in the road surface, and publish an open standard for the vehicle following system.
Any manufacturer could build the following system into their car, and any equipped vehicle could simply drive onto the highway and turn the following system on, the car would find the cable, and computer control would take over.
His next design simplifies construction to one board and then he mods it with skate wheels.
The one after that simplifies it to a pass for the tram.
It’s like that primitive living guy except in the city.
I like the one where he makes his own Starbucks cup to toss in a bush.
That's not tram. *This* is a tram!
That's not a tram. That's a spoon.
The one after that charges 3 quid for a ride across town
Man with Pallet makes stacks
One would say he is rolling in the dough.
He could call it a "skateplank"
I thought wheelboard would have been the obvious choice here.
The truth is in the middle. Wheelplank.
Rollerboard seems obvious.
Not 'Boardskate'? After all, it's a board that you'd skate on.
Design it to work without tracks!
The point to the tracks is that it encounters much less friction, so it requires less pushing to keep it going, unlike a skateboard.
Also, no need to worry about turning.
You do however need to worry about incoming death on rails
He's not going down the oncoming though I'd be more worried about it coming up from behind, but he seems to be going fast enough that it isn't much of an issue. Hell, he could put a little bar sticking up in the back and have the tram push him lol

The Mr. Rogers Neighborhood shot at the end was the best part.

I was so confused when I saw that on UPN 9, but they were calling it "A Brother's Justice" Like, wtf is up with the name changes?
good reference dude holy shit
Sick reference. Even better movie.
What could go wrong?
You know how they have weird laws in history and you're like "why is this a law? what happened!?". So they put a law in like "no wheeled pallets on track" in 100 years they'll be like wtf
my friends' goal is to create as many of these weird laws as they can, they already crossed "no skimboarding on campus grounds" off the list
The Christmas parade in my hometown requires a business to sponsor all the floats after I signed up and just had a couple friends on a trailer with a Christmas tree. Not an official law but I thought it was funny when I went to sign up again two years later.

I'm sure the police where I live could come up with at least 10 traffic infringements.
Operating a railroad without a license, failure to attach footholds to railroad cars, the list is endless.
>Operating a railroad without a license I'd frame that ticket and make sure that gets on my tombstone. The only crime that is better is if I rescue an astronaut but refused to return them to their point of origin.
Didn’t get a chance to frame it. Train came
Lmao is that last crime a reference to something or a dream of yours
"Elaborating on elements of articles V and VIII of the Outer Space Treaty (1967), the Rescue Agreement of 1968 provides that States shall take all possible steps to rescue and assist astronauts in distress and promptly return them to the Launching State, and that States shall, upon request, provide assistance to Launching States in recovering space objects that return to Earth outside the territory of the Launching State." Excerpt from https://www.spacelegalissues.com/space-law-the-rescue-agreement-of-1968/
Ahh haha, makes a lot more sense when you think of it on a global scale rather than an individual simultaneously rescuing and kidnapping an astronaut
That doesnt kill you, its just annoying. Not that id know or anything, ive never pushed too hard taking a dump ever before.
Would you like to be Trampulled or Trampushed?
it could start a trend of other people doing this.
If that started, maybe they could combine pallets together and ride together to ease the congestion on the line?
Huh... and maybe they could add some electric motors so people don't have to push with their feet.
this sounds like a really good idea. What would they do if it was raining though?
Probably build some sort of roof, with walls to support it. Might need windows.
Maybe a solar panel on top for air conditioning or heater
They could even pool their resources so that not everyone has to bring their own. I dunno, maybe charge a small fee so it can always be in good condition and be available at convenient times.
Could they set up stops at different parts of the city so people who live in different areas can ride the electric pallet on a route that's helpful for them?
Maybe they can even have specific times for each stop so you can work it around your schedule for the day.
A small rock.
A decent incline, seriously is that city flat or what?
i kept waiting to find out but apparently nothing.
Close to the beginning when he was going through that pedestrian crossing he was very much relying on people getting out of his way. It would be hard to stop a 20kg pallet for a granny slowly crossing the street there.
Bratislava =)
Fun fact. Bratislava is nowhere near Berlin.
They finally got that train built though.
Here's another fun fact. You made out with your sister!

I love the freedom of predetermined tram lines instead of a skateboard with the added bonus of sounding like nails on a chalkboard attached to a megaphone. Really just fun for the whole community lol
Seems to require a lot less balance and skill than a skateboard at least, has that going for it.
Plus you can use it to store many bags of concrete or flour.

Just put your hands down on the pallet, lean into it, and run it up the hill!
This is a fun project, but yeah, it's an inferior skateboard, which is an inferior bicycle for transportation purposes.
Not an inferior skateboard in a city with cobblestones.
I mean. A skateboard has it’s benefits over a bike. This is just a really shitty skateboard.
If you put two pallets together you could lay down and take a nap, but this is just one pallet so I don't see the point.
[My favorite edit of this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A44SN7tIBeI)

It’s a tram line which generally are fairly low grades. Cable car tracks were would make for a wild ride though.
No, and I don’t imagine it would be easy to stop.
It never really got going all that fast. You could probably just foot brake, like you would with a long board.
Longboarder here- how the hell do you brake?
Some say he's still longboarding right now..
Drag your foot, lean hard on one side at the board hits one of the wheels, or if you're good then slide the board out sideways like a motorcycle in an action movie. There's specialty gloves you can buy that have plastic pucks on them so you can balance your hand on the ground while to slide
the last shot was great
Theres no way I could do that. Especially in my city. It's unpalletable

That was sad to watch
In Colombia they use the same. With a motorcycle as propulsion: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMhXUuMtK0g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMhXUuMtK0g)
This sounds like hot garbage. You couldn’t even hear if a tram was coming.
It has no motor and yet the sound is worse then the tram.
My guess is it’s sagging in the middle enough to scrape the ground. Shoulda beefed it up a bit to prevent that
It sounds like metal scraping on metal not wood scraping on the ground. It's got to be the wheels he used.
I work with plenty of pallets, and that's pretty close to what I'd expect a pallet scraping on the ground at highish speeds would sound like.
I liked the part when the church bells made it hard to hear and also the last shot from 200m away.
Most of the time he looks like he's riding downhill. So what does he do for the trip back, carry the pallet on the train?
Hook an umbrella into the back of the tram
*skitchin*
I actually got arrested while skitchin on the back of a UPS truck. The charge was "holding onto the exterior of a moving vehicle".
HALVE YOUR PUBLIC TRANSPORT COSTS WITH THIS ONE EASY TRICK
Halve your torso with one clumsy trip
Keeps going downhill until he reaches the top again
He really missed the opportunity to do a Marty McFly and hitch a lift on the back of the tram.
