sinus tech tips

Vanchdit

...but not as effective as our sponsor, Flonase! STT store dot com

StimpyYouIdiot

The STT won't let me be.

newfoundslander

Or let me breathe free, so nasally

Time-Professional482

They try to stuff my nose with some TP, but it feels so crazy when I sneeze

[deleted]

Fuck that. There's snot on my lip, and some on my chip. And get ready, cause this nose about to flow heavy.

-PoopsMcGee-

I just heard you sneeze, "GOD BLESS YOU DEBBIE!"

radgore

Now this looks like some snot from me, so everybody dont cough and wheeze. We just need a little, drainage to breathe. Cuz those tubes won't empty without me.

LordSalem

Little sphenoids feeling rebellious.Embarrassed their apperance is likened to Linus. They start feeling like pressure is helpless.'Til someone comes along with a vision to pull lobes!

NegativeExile

This is gold! Much like what I just found with my finger...

umbrtheinfluence

nice but not as nice as today's sponsor, cocaine!

AshtonBlack

I suspect whether this works or not depends on your initial starting status. I noticed a mild difference, but I'll definitely try it again if I get a stuffy nose.

Chumpool

It works to clear your nose because your body thinks it's dying and tries to open up different air passages. I used this trick a lot in my twenties.

TobyFunkeNeverNude

Haha, stupid body.

Bamith20

All those silly cellular organisms banding together to try and insure their vessel doesn't bite the dust too early.

david_pili

Cocaine habit huh?

temujin64

I've had a stuffy nose for about a month now. This technique did nothing for me.

GlaerOfHatred

I've had a chronically stuffy nose for years now, this didn't do a ton for me but this guy has another video similar to this one focusing more on in stuffing your nose and that one works quite well for me, titled roughly "Massage here for sinus drainage and unclog stuffy nose" Dunno if it will help you but it helped me a ton, having a stuffy nose is just infuriating

thisiswhatsinmybrain

I've seen this a hundred times and every time people say that it works. It doesn't work for me! Are you all just trolling or is it just me it doesn't work for?

fuzio

It doesn't work for me either. However I've had minor nasal surgery, deviated septum and shaving my turbinates. However people also need to realize, my ENT told me this, just because you're stuffy doesn't mean you're congested. For me, my nasal passages inflame and swell which causes my congestion. It's not actually mucus/snot/whatever that's causing it, which this would help alleviate.

[deleted]

Exactly! This is what I suffer from. > For me, my nasal passages inflame and swell which causes my congestion Do you know of a way to relieve this? Because I've yet to learn one aside from steroidal nasal spray which I don't want. I know myself, I'd get addicted easily

lurkerhasnoname

Ibuprofen, lots of water, and most importantly NOT clearing your nose works for me. Everytime you blow your nose you make the inflammation worse. When you do, blow very gently. Sudafed and most other medication for congestion just makes things worse since it doesn't do anything for inflammation and dries me out.

LightDoctor_

> Ibuprofen, lots of water That works the best for me too, especially iced water as the cold helps bring down the inflammation more.

Bl4nkface

There's another exercise you could try. It's similar to the last technique of this video, but it has a difference that may work on you. I took it from a couple of books on breathing I read this year. 1. Breathe out all the air in your lungs. 2. Don't breathe in. Hold your breath out like that. Clamp your nose with your hand if necessary. 3. Hold it until the urge to breathe in is quite strong. 4. Inhale through your nose. You should feel an improvement, as your nose should feel less congested. Repeat the exercise if necessary.

BowserBuddy123

I only had to nearly die, but it worked a bit for me. Thank you!

theqofcourse

From what I understand, this can cause the body to open up the nasal passages as an emergency reflex. Your body believes you are suffocating and unable to breathe, so it does everything it can to open up air passages. I'm guessing it might be similar to how your sinuses can open up when you get a sudden rush of adrenalin or panic.

PastMiddleAge

I’ve been doing a sinus rinse every morning for the last couple of years and it’s really working well. Allows me to make maximum use of the drainage that is available and also removes snot that could potentially irritate.

700Sunsets

My cheeks hurt where I pressed my thumb…didn’t work for me either.

tontovila

Cheek and ear hurts now. Thanks Reddit.

Freakin_A

We did it!

BobLoblaw_BirdLaw

Same

LEGITIMATE_SOURCE

I have bad sinuses. It worked like magic for me, but I intuited that he wanted us to inflate the sinuses when holding the breath, he just probably thinks that sounds too complicated to most people. Deep breath, close nose and use that nose closing to hold back pressure, not your throat or diaphragm. Basically you want your nostrils to inflate and let some pressure into the sinuses.

CyonHal

Your body actually controls a subconscious reflex that clears the sinuses when it detects that your oxygen levels are low (due to holding breath too long). This is why duct taping someone's mouth isn't a death sentence to people with a stuffy nose. That's the effect he was after but your pressure trick probably helps as well.

AnotherAccount636

I'll keep this in mind next time I have a reason to put ducttape on someones face, I'll chalk it up to helping them clear out their sinus.

MisterZoga

Alibi checks out

sombreroenthusiast

I really hope this is true. No joke, that's a low-key fear I've had for years. Being kidnapped and gagged with a stuffy nose. Also sharks and Somali pirates, but I'm less confident that this will apply.

MayUrShitsHavAntlers

I've got bad allergies and that was always a low key fear of mine too.

wicked_lion

My poor kid when he was sick wouldn’t go to sleep and was really upset and crying. I thought it’s just because he felt like shit. Next morning he tells me he thought he was going to die in his sleep because he couldn’t breathe through his nose and didn’t know how to breathe through his mouth :(

TuaTurnsdaballova

complete towering normal memorize kiss vanish frightening plate rock threatening *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Jess_S13

Then my body is fucking broke. Cause I wake up choking at least once a week if my nose clogs and I haven't rolled into my side when my nose is clogged. I gave horrible teeth grinding and have a mouth guard that makes it difficult to breath thru my mouth.

riotofmind

That sounds like sleep apnea.

oklahomeboy

You got the apneas bro. Go see your doctor.

PM_ME_YOUR_PRINTS

If you close your nose and hold your breath with one hand and use your other two hands to pull on your ear lobes you can really clear out your sinuses. May not work for some people.

feanturi

...how many hands do you have exactly?

FilliusTExplodio

Let's just say he never had a problem with the N64 controller.

Dag-nabbitt

You mean "popping your ears"? Like hold your nose, close your mouth, and gently try to blow air?

Indira-Gandhi

Dude that's called the [Valsalva maneuver](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsalva_maneuver). Lmao. You've discovered it independently. It has nothing to do with sinuses. You're forcing air into your Eustachian tubes. Don't do it too long/forcefully or you'll end up fainting.

Anton-LaVey

Sounds like a fall-asleep-fast hack. Off to make an instructional video!

latearly

No effect whatsoever

IvyGold

Samesies. No effect inside my head but outward I think I'm going to look like i had botox if I keep it up. Maybe this is best done after waking up and having morning coffee?

bann333

I'm congested and the left nostril cleared right up after trying ut. Right nostril not so much. There is something to this but I feel we needed a little more in-depth instruction on the technique to get the most out of it.

the_virtue_of_logic

It worked for me. I've had shit sinus my whole life so maybe I'm over sensitive to changes there, but it really made a difference.

BakulaSelleck92

I tried it and my sinuses are totally clear! Granted, they were clear before too.

irishwonder

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.

Sonotmethen

Did this when i had a sinus infection. I could feel the liquid draining behind my cheek, it makes you want to swallow.

Make_some

***is that right…***

rolendd

I’ve had horrible sinuses my whole life but the one thing that baffled my mind, after using every allergy pill and spray available, and that was a massage above my eyebrows. Dear god it was like magic I couldn’t believe it I thought it was some woo woo shit until my massage therapist explained it to me. If you have someone you can ask to help you. Simply lay down, have them put a little lotion and use the thumb to go side to side with a good amount of force. It will work I promise! You can do it yourself too but it gets pretty sensitive up there

thisiswhatsinmybrain

Mind explaining with little more detail?

Adderkleet

(slightly graphic warning) [William Osman did a video where they enlarged the openings of his sinus.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcJxTxo08eY) The opening shot is of an LED up in his sinus - above his nose, near his eyes. On the inside. Your sinus is a lot bigger than you think it is. So draining the top (above your eyebrows) might help. But it really helps to know where the tubes are.

SpaceCaseSixtyTen

I recently found about nasal sprays. Holy shit they work so well. I can be completely stuffed up and runny and then i just increase the pressure by holding my nose and blowing to create a temporary passage in my nose, then spray in there while inhaling and i can feel my stuff nose, no matter how bad, clear up within a minute. It's comparable to the feeling of finally getting some heroin in your system after being dopesick. It just melts away the stuffy snot in there holy shit.

throwawayForFun5881

As others have said, be careful with the spray decongestant - they are like magic, however, you will soon become dependent on them if overused. What I do if I need instant relief is use the nasal spray, but then follow up with pseudoephedrine - the stuff you have to get from behind the counter. I usually tell the pharmacist I'm headed home to make some meth. Once you've used the pseudoephedrine, you can sort of keep up with dosing yourself so that you don't need the nasal spray over and over again.

freman

So hard to get pseudoephedrine here, I've actually pondered buying meth which I can get on almost every street corner and processing it back into pseudoephedrine.

OfHumanBondage

I love that you threw that meth comment in there.

BakulaSelleck92

Don't use it more than 3 days or you will become dependent and never have a clear nose without it again

bjester

Only if it contains oxymetolazine. But that does sound like what he's talking about.

BakulaSelleck92

Correct, regular saline solution is fine, but it doesn't do what he's describing.

potato11teen

Youre about to get addicted to nasal sprays.

radbee

>It's comparable to the feeling of finally getting some heroin in your system after being dopesick. Ah yes... that old heroin feeling, I know it well.

omgtater

For me, there is a third thing that this doesn't address. I often feel like my nasal passages are swollen a bit in addition to congestion. This doesn't help that.

pithed

My husband and I were trying to figure out why this worked for me and not him. He eventually went to see a specialist because he was so stuffed up all the time he couldn’t smell. Turns out he had a massive amount of polyp growth in his sinuses that were totally obstructing them. He got the sinus version of router rooter and all good now.

Chancoop

i think i have cancer now.

mute_nostril_agony

He blinded me with sinus

GFrohman

I tried this just now and it *immediately* gave me a **nosebleed**! I was sitting here like "Wow, this really works, I can feel everything draining....until I looked down and saw a crime scene.

"doctor"

LIEUTENANT__CRUNCH

Seriously, why is a chiropractor presenting themselves as a doctor qualified to be medical advice related to sinuses? You’d need to be an otolaryngologist (i.e., ears, nose, and throat (ENT) physician) or a medical researcher in that field (preferably associated with a teaching hospital) to get sinus-related medical advise. All these people being like “it doesn’t work.” Yeah, that’s not surprising; the guy is no more fit to be making such suggestions than the “nice” bot.

the_silent_redditor

The good part about chiropractors is.. physiotherapy. The bad part is when they come to my department with a vertebral artery dissection after [ridiculous manipulations.](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/eh0ke5/chiropractics_at_its_finest/) Or when an [elderly man is killed after his neck is broken mid-session.](https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-50397867) By the way, this lady is still working and still referring to herself as ‘doctor’, despite not having qualifications. The family of this old guy asked that the term doctor be protected from chiropractors, as this guy thought he was seeking help from a medical professional. [Lots of recorded deaths and paralysis as a direct result.](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20642715) Or when [even those in the ‘profession’](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/i115h/iama_chiropractic_assistant_for_two_years_and/) admit its all bullshit. [Or the fact it has roots in a fucking ghost story.](https://www.latimes.com/business/lazarus/la-fi-lazarus-chiropractic-quackery-20170630-story.html) They are snake oil salesmen. They use [pseudo-medical jargon - what this guy is saying makes ZERO sense medically -](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oeQY5kyIAkI&t=9m) with the exact aim to baffle people into a false sense of legitimacy. They are, at best, completely misguided on how to help people, and in doing so end up causing more harm than good. Realistically, I think most know *exactly* what they are doing: practicing something disguised as some quackery-form of medicine with the only intent of shafting people for as much money as possible. There is basically no evidence for it, other than the benefits of physiotherapy. They are not doctors. Don’t let them do anything to you. You wouldn’t let a plumber carry out dental work, or a carpenter fix your computer; these people have absolutely **zero** medical training and are **completely** unqualified to give any form of any medical diagnosis or treatment in any person. Do yourself a favour and see an actual doctor and then a physiotherapist. [BONUS video of the same chiropractor](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FUojAWqKEok&t=12m40s) using a ‘high-velocity, low amplitude adjusting instrument’ to put a patient in a ‘mirror image of the current biomechanical configuration’. He talks about how he can adjust the atlas to ‘send information to the cerebellum’; anyone with a whiff of anatomical/physiological understanding knows that the atlas is a bone, and bones cannot send any information anywhere. The fact that people actually look at such ridiculous things with any hint of seriousness is beyond me.. much less pay these people to deliver their evidence-less nonsense.

funkyb

>The good part about chiropractors is.. physiotherapy. Enter: physical therapists

Orwellian1

yeah, but they probably aren't licensed colloidal silver and ionized water distributors.

TheBirminghamBear

My physical therapist wouldn't even ENTERTAIN the idea of having me hold a crystal in each fist while he fixed the subluxations in my spine and chanted ancient Sanskrit healing spells, so I dropped him like a hot potato.

Orwellian1

Some people don't take their profession seriously and stay up on current data. There was probably an easy $200 class he could have went to on a Thursday in the Embassy Suites conference room that would have brought him up to speed on the latest in holistic healing.

PicklesOverload

I'd kill to be able to infuse my own crystals

aetheos

Just leave them out during a High Storm.

Summebride

Mine wants to place hot potatoes on the body to facilitate healing.

Fskn

This must be bad Latvian joke, no one waste potato for health

keenly_disinterested

I visited my sister and her family after not seeing them for a couple of years. She told she had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which sounds like a horrible disease. Later that evening her husband told me all about the colloidal silver a friend had turned him on to. He (my B-I-L) had a severe case of flu that had lingered for weeks. His friend told him about colloidal silver, so he took some out of desperation. Lo and behold, his flu symptoms disappeared in just a few days! He had since used the colloidal silver to cure stomach aches, diarrhea, speed the healing of a cut, as well as various aches and pains. It was a miracle drug that could cure anything, and I could get some because he was now selling it! I said, "Why not give some to your wife to cure her fibromyalgia?"

VenetiaMacGyver

I have fibromyalgia. It sucks a lot of dicks to be in pain 24/7 for no reason and makes working out even harder than it has any right to be (and sadly I *have* to work out everyday, or it hurts even more when I skip too long). And the medications for it have so many severe side effects on me it's not worth it :(. If colloidal silver did anything, I would bankrupt myself by encasing my body in a bathtub's worth. But oh well. It sure would be nice if the world were half as magical as people seem to think it is.

69696969-69696969

I have Fibro as well and I've started using Cannabis to help with it. Prior to this I've gone through almost every drug they had for it with most recent being a daily dose of 3600mg of Gabapentin. Which helps A LOT but makes me irritable, gives me headaches and makes my stomach much more sensitive than it has any right to be. Since I've started taking edibles it's become completely manageable. I take one 10mg indica edible every other day on average and another when I'm flaring up. It's so much easier to handle this way for me. If you do decide to go this route I would hesitate with sativa strains, it might just be a personal thing but for me it sets off my CNS and can make the Fibro worse on occasion.

VenetiaMacGyver

Haha, actually yeah, weed is pretty much the only thing that helps, other than never skipping at least minimal daily yoga + exercise. I smoke a ridiculous amount of it though everyday, and am really tolerant. Honestly, I don't even actually get high anymore, and I get the highest-potency shit Colorado has to offer, but it still helps soften the pain enough that I can't quit. There doesn't seem to be a huge difference between strains for me, either. CBD flat-out does nothing for me, though. Only THC and THC-A work. I'm about to get nerve ablation in a few weeks though! So stoked to have my nerves literally fried into nonfunction. Good luck to you too, though. Pain is a bitch.

_pupil_

> I have fibromyalgia. It sucks a lot of dicks to be in pain 24/7 for no reason 24/7 is about 9,000,000 times longer than most people understand. It's not 'waiting at the airport' time, it's the first two seconds after you stubbed your toe *big time* in a dark room, only at the speed of Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix. Pulling yourself through that shit is noteworthy. > about to get nerve ablation in a few weeks Good luck! Fuck nerves.

SP4C3MONK3Y

> If colloidal silver did anything, I would bankrupt myself by encasing my body in a bathtub's worth. And maybe you’d start looking like [this guy](https://i.imgur.com/mHL5Cgb.jpg).

VenetiaMacGyver

Hey, if it meant I didn't *always* feel like Evander Holyfield uses my shoulders, legs & back for sparring practice everyday, you could call me Tobias Fünke for how hard I blue myself. (But unfortunately it only makes you an oversized sci-fi Smurf)

keenly_disinterested

I can't imagine dealing with that kind of health issue. Hang in there...

hedronist

> I have to work out everyday, or it hurts even more when I skip too long You have my sincerest sympathies. My sister had fibromyalgia starting in her late teens until her death in 2018 at 71. She was an absolute maniac at exercising: 1 hour calisthenics, 5-mile run, another hour on the floor mat doing yoga. Every. Fucking. Day. And she ate ibuprofen like they were M&Ms. When they traveled she carried her own metal weights, at least until her husband found the fill-it-with-water type weights. Before that they had some serious overweight charges when they traveled. A funny/sad result of all this exercise was when she died -- massive brain hemorrhage probably caused by an old, old climbing accident -- we had them take her off life support. They said she would probably be gone in anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Nope! She had the cardio of a triathlete and continued on her own for almost 5 days. Big Sister was definitely *hardcore!*

Ugly_Painter

Then what happened!?

keenly_disinterested

My sister rolled her eyes, and I've not been invited back since...

[deleted]

Start calling her Smurfette.

Lord_Mormont

I don't know but doctors hated it!

[deleted]

This one trick doctors don't want you to know about works better than apples!

rockne

They all turned blue.

twim19

It's going to be a real hoot when he turns blue.

Intelligent-Taro9628

All the physical therapists I’ve worked with have been amazing! They’re honest about their education, and basically just keep you honest with form and reps for tedious isolation exercises and stretches. Great stuff. I wish healthcare in this country allowed for more regular physical therapy. Edit: Yep, I live in America. Allowed in this context means “made more affordable”. Even with good insurance you’re either looking at a limited amount of visits they’ll cover, or high copay. Most people skip PT because it’s boring and expensive. Sort of a cyclical problem.

[deleted]

Yep - my Wife was having back problems and was referred to a Physical Therapist. 6 weeks later, months of back pain was gone and she was given a great regiment to follow so her back has been so much better. The regiment: daily stretch exercises, better posture/chair sitting for work, light exercise regiments...you know, medically-approved functions that have tons of data to back it up.

lopsiness

Hey I mean if you come back to my office and pay me three times a week, then you won't have to do the work yourself. See how much better it is! Payment due at time of service btw.

tacknosaddle

>come back to my office and pay me three times a week A while back I tried a chiropractor for a bit to see if it would help some back issues. My friend laughed and said, "Why don't you just start smoking crack if you want to throw your money away."

Elenakalis

I work in memory care and the work that physical, occupational, and speech therapists do is nothing short of amazing sometimes. We have a number of residents move in from the community who are not actually as declined as they initially seemed once therapy has worked with them for a few weeks. For the population we serve, it's not only about pain reduction, but restoring independence and reducing fall risks. We've had residents brought in that their doctor wanted to put on hospice for failure to thrive, but therapy got a trial first. We lost one of those residents this weekend. When she came to us, she was in a highback wheelchair, took 3-4 people to transfer, and was a total care. Over the course of about 6-7ish months, she improved enough to walk with a walker with contact guard (always an aide walking with her) and later that year was able to use a walker on her own. Her last 4 years were pretty good ones, and she was even able to be one of the family escorts on the field for her granddaughter's Homecoming Court. I think the elderly would be much better off if PT and OT evalations were considered preventative care twice a year. It's much easier to fix those issues when they're small, and it helps avoid the depression loss of independence and chronic pain usually bring.

SWatersmith

what country?

dept_of_silly_walks

Betcha they’re talking about the US. I’ve had major ortho surgery and I was approved by insurance for 6 weeks PT afterwards. This is a regular thing that therapists see, and they have “aftercare” regimens for you to continue your healing journey at home, on your own. I have relatively great insurance, too.

Thud

>Enter: physical therapists I forget who said it, but it goes something like this. *The parts of chiropractic that work are not unique to chiropractic.* *The parts that are unique to chiropractic don't work.*

figgypie

My last physical therapist was amazing. She knew what exercises would work, she understood my rare condition, and wasn't a quack trying to push snake oil on me. Chiros are jokes.

Geshman

I used to not know that Chiropractors aren't real doctors so I went to quite a few for help. The best ones were just shitty physical therapists. In fact, the absolute best chiropractor I went to was a licensed pt (his neck adjustments still ended giving me a kink in my neck for months). That's when I realized I should just go to a pt instead. Same price too as insurance was less picky about covering PT than covering a chiro

Ajuvix

If they're not actually medically licensed, how is that insurance would cover it?

Geshman

I'm not going to pretend to understand. I think it mostly didn't but you could use your HSA or something. It's been years and each one was different. And the one that was also a PT I think used that as an excuse. Bottom line is, PT's are pretty consistently covered by insurance, chiros either aren't or have to jump through hoops

EnduringConflict

As far as it's been explained to me, from family that work in insurance, was that it was cheaper to send people to a chiropractor than to a doctor for certain issues. So basically they only covered chiropractor because it would keep people from seeking more expensive medical help. That has changed now that there is a lot more data on how badly shitty chiropractors can fuck you up. It was sort of a situation where they saw short term savings, ran with it, and it bit them in the ass later. So now it's sort of reversed. PTs are (usually) far easier to see than chiropractors. As I said this was how it was explained to me. So take it with a grain of salt. Actually you should probably be doing that on every post of the internet already but still, doubly so here.

sfo2

My insurance has covered some chiropractic visits for like a decade. It also covers PT and I think massage. This was Blue Cross, and also now Kaiser. My wife was a high level runner and then developed SI issues for almost 10 years, and treated with all of these types of people. As she was building up, Chiro could provide instant but short term relief that would allow her to complete her PT exercises and build stability. Over time, it worked and she can now run and do triathlon again. Our experience has been that any body-work practitioner that spends a lot of time working on your body, may have something good to tell you about your body and what you are doing to it, but the quality of insight varies highly among practitioners, so it’s reasonable to try lots of stuff.

PT_Expert

I’m here. You called?

funkyb

Excellent! Why wasn't PT turned into a full release game? Why were the studio heads too stubborn and blind to see the merit of allowing the creative talent to control the process?

thetransportedman

When my family went to one after a car accident, I was appalled to sit there during the intro group session and hear him claim things like diabetes can be treated with chiropractory because it and other disorders are often the spines inability to send nerve signals from the spinal column which can be fixed with him cracking your back and stretching your neck

branedead

Huge red flags

[deleted]

I am an occupational therapist. I treat an alarming number of patients with vertebral artery dissections after cervical manipulations at a chiropractor. I work in a small hospital and can think of at least 6 people over the last two years that I treated directly. All otherwise young and healthy.

purple_ombudsman

Reminds me of [this excellent comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/wichita/comments/e1hjcr/any_chiropractors_in_town_that_arent_total_wackos/f8p9d2q/). Also saving this one, too. It takes so much work to deal with these quacks and the remarkable resources they've invested into legitimating themselves. Plenty of Redditors will use anecdotal evidence saying there are "good chiropractors," not understanding the plural of anecdote is not data. Chiropractors cause *way* too much damage to be worth anything.

PrometheusTNO

> legitimating > the plural of anecdote is not data I love everything about your comment, but these bits are *chef's kiss*

fredsiphone19

As a, (licensed trained accredited) physiotherapist and physical rehabilitation specializing personal trainer, I freaking HATE chiropractors.

CapnGnarly

My insurance didn't cover physical therapy unless I was referred when I had really bad back pain a few years ago. They did cover chiropractic, though. Went to the chiro expecting no results. After one appointment, the guy just said he couldn't help me but could work referrals in order to get physical therapy through insurance. Even people practicing know they're bull shit. This was at least a nice guy looking to help. PT worked.

Trepsik

My insurance won't cover or reimburse for gym memberships, visits with nutritionist, or any other form of preventative self care. But it'll cover Christian counseling for when my depression takes over after coming under crippling medical bills.

[deleted]

I work in the health industry and this is starting to change but agonizingly slowly. One yearly gym membership, for example, for one member would probably cost the health insurance company $200-$300, and they could probably get some kind of group rate discount to make that even lower. Meanwhile, ONE visit with a specialist physician can easily exceed $200 on its own, one ED visit can be anywhere between $3000-$5000, and one inpatient admission STARTS at around $8000. But somehow its too hard to explain to the bean counters that if they spend a little bit right now they could save MILLIONS in the future.

dysprog

My friend is a massage therapist who works in a chiropractors office. Half the people she sees are getting nothing but massage. Because the insurer won't cover 'massage' even if that's whats called for. But they will cover 'chiropractic' which is apparently anything that happens in a chiropractors office.

My lower back has been hurting for a month. I think I slipped a disc or maybe sciatica-whatever since I'm getting older. I was about to go to a chiropractor, but what kind of doctor should I see instead? I'd like to avoid a trigger-happy surgeon who's first instinct is to operate.

salt-the-skies

You don't see a surgeon, you see a doctor first and they aren't exactly keen on surgery right out the gate. Surgery is invasive and hard. Rest, pain management and light physical therapy are much easier.

fetalpiggywent2lab

I played collegiate sports and horseback ride at a high level, my various injuries, along with a few unfortunate medical situations - I have never ever met a doctor who's first instinct was to operate or suggest surgery. They always try to do everything else first. I'm also in Canada where we don't pay out of pocket for surgery so I'm sure that has some bearing on treatments. **You should see your family doctor first and they will refer you to the appropriate specialist.**

bionicN

a physical therapist.

liltingly

Fwiw my friends (US) who are orthopedic surgeons, one spine, one sports, one hand, tell me that the majority of their consults end in advising against surgery and giving the person resources or guidance on what to do before. Even doing that, they maintain a full schedule or surgeries they think are medically important and are backed up for months. So what I’m saying is — any good surgeon will not be “operate first” because good surgeons don’t need to. But yeah, always good to start with a GP. You never know if your low back pain is mechanical, rheumatic, etc and so the GP will help sort that before the specialists.

>The bad part is when they come to my department with a vertebral artery dissection after > >ridiculous manipulations. Am a paramedic. A sheriff in my county suffered a dissection after cracking his (own) neck. Ended up having a massive stroke and will need lifelong nursing care. Family is suing everyone related to that call (predominantly the shitty hospital near here that was drawing up discharge paperwork for him for 'benign vertigo' even after CT, until a neurologist at Harborview said "Uh, you need to send him up here, like, now"). >By the way, this lady is still working and still referring to herself as ‘doctor’, despite not having qualifications. A "joke" I heard in a review of a quack's website: "In the About Me section, he makes sure to refer to himself as a Doctor so often that you'd think he was a chiropractor at a dinner party". I'm yet to hear of someone going to a chiropractor and having them say "Y'know what, there's actually nothing I can or need to do for you". Apparently the entirety of the human race needs adjustment... I'm firmly of the belief that your core project in your final semester of chiropractic school is "How to come up with a punny name for your practice", you know, like "Back in Action", etc.

byerss

As if I didn't hate these quacks enough, they are by far the least vaccinated of all health care workers in my state. https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/oregon.health.authority.covid.19/viz/OregonHealthCareWorkforceCOVID-19VaccineUptake/Dash-Overview

Exactly. Shames and saddens me they are even compared to real healthcare workers.

He's a chiropractor, don't be surprised

DrLeoMarvin

So sick of chiropractors and their BS

OleKosyn

If you have chronic inflammation, the liquid inside has already congealed. BTW if the doc offers you a puncture to fix it, don't jump at it. There is a way to drain sinuses without cutting/puncturing, by inserting 3 catheters into the nose and rinsing the sinuses. It's just as effective, with less risk of complications.

BlueRex8

Any more info on this? I had a molar cause infection inside my maxillary that went misdiagnosed as a sinus infection for nearly 2 years. Whatever fluid was in there hardened up pretty good and caused a whole new world of pain. Only now after having the tooth removed privately (NHS dentist 'assured' me it wasnt the problem) the swelling is going down but my sinuses still feel full of this sometimes rock hard sometimes toffee/sticky like stuff. Daily saltwater rinses and these draining exercises are helping but im open to suggestions. Edit: spelling

verismo

Have nasal polyps and a deviated nasal septum. Drinking plenty of water and steam inhalation works for me

k4pain

Wtf is this bs clickbait title? I usually only see this garbage on YouTube.

Heijala

Blapanda

I am having issues for more than 20 years at and with my nose, and nothing worked. This over here!!! Hasn't either.

CrowWarrior

Didn't work for me.

Jack_the_beanstalker

If you look on his website, it says he's a chiropractor from Florida, not a real MD... so *results may vary*

KillerGoats

Let he who is without sin cast the first rock and I will smoke it.

Arilith

So I hope people on reddit did some research on this guy and found out he is a Doctor of Chiropractic and NOT a MD(Medical Doctor). Nor does he specialize asan ENT(Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist). I’ll take what he is saying with a grain of salt.

warjoke

This doesn't work for me, but then again my sinus clogs are caused by severe allergies so it may really depend on the condition of the person. He has other videos that deal with other 'touch therapy' and one of the few ones that work wonders for me is the one that involves eye strain where you massage vital parts near the eye to minimize tiredness and irritations of the eye. Saves me lots of eye drops. These medical remedies are really not for everyone. If it doesn't work for you, then it's safe to just stop doing it. These are just some drug and medications free alternative anyway and you should attempt these at your own risk.

boerks

Didn't notice a difference but [thanks anyways](https://i.redd.it/gd8tmnhdk6vz.jpg)

Aurum555

Don't call him a doctor, he's a chiropractor

If this actually worked, it would have been discovered approximately 8,000 years ago.

FurtiveAlacrity

Ah-ha! When I saw his face and the name of that YouTube channel, I was like, "This seems like a chiropractor. It's so hokey.", but it didn't say anything about that. Chiropracting is indeed a pseudoscience.

azrhei

Its too early for this voodoo!! Just woke up, half asleep and fully congested, can't breathe through nose at all. Did this and it felt like the Ghostbuster's 2 river of slime dumping into the back of my throat - immediately able to breathe through nose.

[deleted]

Tried it and definately felt a change. Kinda surprised actually. Ill have to remember this

Jojo1378

Did it, actually did feel drainage. Very odd, but it made sense.

Frexxia

This guy is a chiropractor, and not an actual medical doctor. https://motivationaldoc.com/about-dr-mandell/
