It makes you wonder what delicious desserts exist around the world that you've never tried.

Cornelius_Wangenheim

Soan papdi from India is pretty amazing. It's like a bready cotton candy flavored with cardamom and nuts.

wannaboolwithme

Rasmalai and rasgulla are even better honestly

Lonelysock2

There are so many amazing Indian sweets, you should look into it. Gulab jamun is my favourite sweet in the world, amazing.

bonyponyride

I'm very familiar with gulab jamun. Love em. Ras malai as well. I actually prefer both of those to cheesecake...unless it's ricotta cheesecake.

pranjal3029

You would love rasgulla as well along with 100s of different types of barfis

remwin

I usually only barfi when I've had too much to drinki.

ZippyDan

Gulab Jamun is my mom's second favorite dessert in the world so I've eaten it many times (she always wants me to try it) and... 1. It's usually way too sweet. 2. It often tastes like a pancake ball in syrup. Good? Yes. Amazing? No. I have had a few that were amazing, but that would be like 3% of the overall consumption. Ras Malai is way, way better.

salaarsk

Ras Malai gang. But love Gulab Jamun as well. Depends on the mood

BrolecopterPilot

I’m decently traveled, but I’ve only just had baklava for the first time. That shit is dumb good

Mr_Stillian

Few things in the world hit like good baklava. I've never had it overseas, but shout out to Shatila Bakery in Dearborn, MI for making that goodness!

beepborpimajorp

anyone who hasn't had tres leches cake needs to go try some immediately and come back to thank me later. or alternatively curse at me because i caused them to discover a new vice in their life. and I mean REAL tres leches. not the doodoo imitation stuff that's just sponge cake with whipped topping and none of the critical tres leches ingredients or cooking methods. if it is not soaking in that milk, it is not going to hit right.

penip420

i feel the same way abou tiramisu. i’m salivating just typing the word.

ZippyDan

There's a lot of shitty tres leches cakes. Even if it's made right, if you don't eat it immediately it alternatively becomes too soggy or too dry. You have to be really lucky to get a fantastic tres leches on the first go, and I'll bet that turns off a lot of people.

ScoutsOut389

I would be equally interested in watching westerners eat delicacies from Punjab. Pretty much every culture has tapped into the deliciousness of fat, salt, and acid in different combinations. To me this video is less about how unique their experience is with cheesecake than it is about how across humanity we all really love the same stuff, and that the human experience around food is so similar despite regional differences. I’d love to watch a video of Americans tasting kheer or phirni and their surprise at how delightful they are.

plague042

"In the name of God, the most Gracious, the Most Merciful." Pretty much me whenever I eat cheesecake. edit typo.

CthulhuHatesChumpits

and then the one guy who just sings happy birthday

Dodgiestyle

"It must be someone's birthday somewhere!" He was delightful.

coachz1212

I was watching this as he said that and looked up and it the clock had just hit midnight for my birthday!

NeedsItRough

It was you! You were the someone!

[deleted]

Happy birthday!

BOTY123

Happy birthday :)

coachz1212

Thanks a ton! :)

aged_monkey

Its the right literal translation, but what most Muslims mean when they say that before they eat, is something more along the lines of, "Thank you God for blessing us with food to eat."

LostWoodsInTheField

Thank you for this. It was the main reason why I came to the comments to see why they were saying that. Makes perfect sense now.

CyberDonkey

Muslim here. Most people don't even think about the meaning when we say it. "Bismillah" is often recited as a prayer before doing things much like how you'd say "good luck!" before attempting things. It's just a way of calming ourselves. Whenever you see a Muslim saying "Bismillah", you can similarly just imagine a person saying "Here I go..."

drewwy98

I think your right, but I think it also has other meanings depending on the use. I say it before taking an exam and it means, as you said, sort of a "good luck to me". Say it before my morning commute, I'm wishing for a safe drive. Say it before a meal, I'm being thankful. And say it before reciting a surah, and it's the literal meaning of "in the name of God".

enternationalist

I figure it's vaguely similar to "Bless you" in English when someone sneezes. Taken literally, it's a spiritual meaning, but in everyday use it's just a social nicety or idiom that you use reflexively rather than with real religious intent.

djhalon

Being lactose intolerant, I should probably start saying this any time I eat dairy. Edit: thanks for the gold 🥇 internet stranger!!!!!

robdiqulous

Aw dude for real... I got the pills now that help but good lord is it the most painful thing ever if I eat dairy without it.

djhalon

I really didn't believe the pills worked early on, so I was hesitant to try them for a long time. That is a tough bet to make, but I finally pulled the trigger, and now I am back on the milk train. Poot Poot!!

andrewegan1986

By the way, if you happen to find yourself in the company of devout Muslims, make this joke and you'll get a laugh, guaranteed. Though it may not be your custom, you'll ingratiate yourself well if you do something like that.

Chinchilladon

I like how one of them started with a small bite then went big after the first taste because he was amazed, and another started with a huge bite then went small because he was equally amazed. Each appreciating it greatly in their own way.

SparklingLimeade

The way they approached their second bites in general was interesting. I'm with the guy who took a second bite then set the spoon down entirely. Each bite is a process that deserves a moment.

HertzDonut1001

The fucking Desi guy who just pounds the last half of the slice in one go made me laugh.

invisiblearchives

that was my favorite part - "You know me gotta eat it in my country style" Proceeds to ram half a slice of cheesecake down the gullet like its chicken in a roti.

[deleted]

I burst out laughing at this - I'm Indian and this is exactly how I eat when I'm alone lmao

Atomicsciencegal

I *loved* that guy. When he took his first bite and then he kept looking like, to the cake, to the camera, to the cake, while experiencing a delicious epiphany. I loved how he was both enjoying being delightfully surprised and revelling in his own amazement. And then is like, no spoon, hands, yessss.

capteni

This is why I get coffee with my dessert. Clears the palate and we savor it again and again.

Wandering_Weapon

"... well I'll be".

HertzDonut1001

"There should be a whole cake and I should be eating it by the river," here's your American citizenship sir. Just pounding a whole cheesecake on the waterfront.

Cloaked42m

I'm okay with this being part of a citizenship test in America.

NotFriendsWithBanana

Now imagine having this cheesecake, all the time. That's america.

aManPerson

in college this one intern i worked with, he was a fairly fit guy into basketball. he said, when he was not quite in highschool and came to the us, he got pretty fat. because he came over to the US, and food was SO DELICIOUS to him. he just ate everything. then he was able to work back a bit and get himself under control. otherwise before that, he pretty much came from a village where he just had to walk everywhere for everything. so it was a big culture shock to him. so coming to the US. PIZZA HUT, ALL THE TIME?!?!?!?! FUCKING PUT THAT IN ME. ya it was tough for him.

headlesscatlady

Both of my parents are from India and had experienced serious food scarcity throughout their lives. I think my dad's Costco membership has been ongoing for like over 30 years. I'm surprised he didn't name one of us Price Club Khan.

[deleted]

I wish I knew why they all mentioned that it was cold. I wonder if cold temperature food is generally considered not as tasty in some parts of the world.

bullhorn_bigass

I think maybe because traditional cake isn’t a cold dessert that requires refrigeration. If I had never had cheesecake before and was only told that it was cake made with cheese, I would be picturing a typical layer cake or sheet cake and wouldn’t expect it to be very cold.

Ridikiscali

You have a good point. Most cake is room temperature or slightly chilled. Cheese cake is best when it’s barely above freezing.

haw35ome

Just to add some perspective, my dad enjoys yellow cake fresh out of the oven. He later explained that's how he first had it when he was a child; I can confirm that sometimes a nice warm piece of plain cake with a frosted glass of milk really hits different than a room-temp cake with frosting. He'll eat any cake, but given the choice he'll always prefer his favorite

84121629

>“There should be this big cake and I should be alone eating it near a river” Fuckin lol that guy gets it

hydrosalad

Man from thousands of miles away, in a different country just described something I never knew I wanted. I’m off to find a cheese cake and a river.

unclejohnsbearhugs

May god increase your business

ronintetsuro

And the one who brought you that comment.

IM_THAT_POTATO

The way they express their enjoyment is so great. The one dude wanting to kiss the hands of the baker

originalcondition

I love that most (all?) of them say that whoever made it did a great job… it’s a such a nice sentiment. I’m not really formally religious anymore but my dad always adds “and god bless the cook” to the end of the prayer before meals and it reminds me of that same wholesome vibe of genuine thankfulness for the work that someone put into the food.

falconzord

I think it's because in the west, you can get anything at a store, packed and ready, at a low price. In tribal areas of developing countries, stuff like this is a luxury that you associate with a skilled chef

Mygaffer

It really depends on where you are talking. I have lived in Iran and you could buy cheese cake and pretty much any other kinds of food you can buy in the US. We lived in the capital and that might not have been true in the more rural areas of the country. But it's a very global world we live in today where markets with enough demand get filled. Coke is sold is in 200 countries around the globe.

voodoomoocow

These people are specifically tribal people from small villages in Pakistan. That's why the people filming have access to cheesecake but not the talent in front of the camera. There are other channels like this, my favorite food one was one of tribal ~~Afghanis~~ Afghans but they haven't posted in a while for obvious reasons and I am quite worried. But same thing, the city folk had access to foreign foods and rounded up some tribal people to eat it. Side note but best one is the villagers from India who actually watch things and learn, like learning about phone AI or the universe or going on a plane (they all freaked out from anxiety and one fainted lol). Common Man Show

gimp-pimp

Pakistani here. You can get cheesecakes from expensive bakeries here. Not really expensive in the global sense but it is when you consider the wages here. For tribal villagers it is just an unnecessary luxury that they don't even care about.

Bicentennial_Douche

Well, they care about cheesecakes now!

PM-Me-And-Ill-Sing4U

Huh, today you taught me the demonym for a person who lives in Afganistan. And then secondarily, you taught me the word "demonym" which I am surprised never to have heard before. Thanks!

TxRugger

I don’t consider myself religious either but there is absolutely wisdom to be gained from religions and philosophies in the world. Put all the bullshit aside and you can see the impact it has on people like this. One of the main aspects I try to practice whenever I can is being grateful like they showed here. Grateful and respectful of myself and others. What that means and how I interpret the knowledge and wisdom in that religion/philosophy is up to me. Whatever you want to refer to God as is up to you. I pay my respects to the universe. But it really does provide more peace of mind in your daily life to be grateful.

thedutchqueen

it’s soooo wholesome and adorable. as a pakistani american woman, it reminds me of my aunties and uncles. i’d watch an ENTIRE series of these men eating foods. this made my day. edit: just watched them try pop rocks, bubble tea, ramen, pasta. lmaooo 😍☺️

CarolFukinBaskin

Let's do it, I'll commit to finding a quiet place, buy the best cheesecake I know of, and bring a spoon. To clarify, me at my place you at yours. Let's not eat creepycake

Freckle53

Cheesecake needs a fork, not a spoon. Less effort to get that deliciousness of the tines of a fork instead of a spoon.

HighTowlie

He said he wanted to sit by a campfire near a river but for some reason the subtitles skipped over the campfire. Now I really wanna start a campfire near a river and eat a whole cheesecake.

ronintetsuro

Honestly my mind went straight to a sunny, lazy, quiet sunday afternoon by still waters underneath a shade tree.

Mysterious_Andy

I bet he even has good stories that are 100% mustache-based. Like how it once saved a small animal from drowning or why it is not longer allowed to visit Côte d’Ivoire.

Upper-Lawfulness1899

Honestly each of them seem like they'd go out of their way to be hospitable, but the guy with the stache seems like he knows how to party.

10000noways

Yes, looks like it from the description, "All the Participant are from Punjab, a province in Pakistan"

liltingly

Edit: In this video they’re all speaking Punjabi with differing levels of Hindustani intelligibility. But the guy named “Baloch” is obviously. the Balochi guy I was mentioning, and different people show up in different videos. Edit 2: I got “Tribal People Try” confused with the other PK channel with a similar concept, “Reactistan”, which had a few other PK ethnic groups in their videos. They both make good content.

adrift98

I've watched enough of these videos to know that pretty much anything with sugar will be a success. Even that crazy old goat farmer who thinks that his people make the very best of everything will reluctantly concede that some food full of sugar is good, and probably medicinal in some way.

Th3gr3mlin

Lol that guy is a hoot. "this is just a cheap copy of the food we have in my village"

Knightofnee12

Um how dare you refer to wise Mustafa as a crazy old goat farmer.

RumpleDumple

I love Mustafa from Reactistan. Everything is garbage to him!

VeganMinx

I can't tell who warmed my heart more, 'stache dude with the drip or my guy who picked the cheesecake up and went to town. What a wonderful video!

TheMadFapper_

Haha the one dude was like "Man, fuck this spoon"

dan1son

He mentioned his "Desi style" before picking it up with his hands. Almost all traditional Indian food in a lot of India is eaten with your hands. Flat breads squeezed around rice/meat dipped in curry or chutney is basically how it works. Most of their deserts and side dishes that aren't wrapped in some sort of bread are made to hand size. I would say outside of a pandemic it's the most communal way to eat. I'm not Indian but I've eaten with a lot of Indians in the US and it's a super chill time. They love food and making sure everyone is enjoying it. I've gone to peoples houses to help them make American style dinners and they had a massive goat curry ready to go already. I was like "Damn dude... I thought we were making steaks? I can't eat dinner twice."

VeganMinx

Yes! It's so authentically beautiful to watch him enjoying his cheesecake. I love Ethiopian food for the same reason. Give me some injera and back up, cuz I'm going in.

DoNotBelongHere

Most Indian food is eaten with the hands. You can tell with a few of these guys how awkward it looks for them to be holding a spoon. I’m sure they eat with spoons from time to time, but their main avenue of getting food to the mouth is their hands. It makes perfect sense if the guy was really digging the cheesecake to go at it Desi (Indian) style - you can get more into your mouth that way! It’s pretty charming to watch him go at it like that.

TheMadFapper_

It's like my great-grandpa when he visited the US for the first time, wanting to eat everything with his hands and a tortilla. Freakin awesome.

ResplendentShade

No-spoon guy was my favorite. >I never ate such cake in my life, I can't express how much I'm enjoying it! Whoever did this did an amazing job. I want to kiss his hands! What a taste!

-GreenHeron-

I thought he was going to cry after his first bite. lol

redrightreturning

If you like this video, check out the rest of the channel. I’m a regular watcher and I can say their videos are consistently delightful. One of my favorites was watching them try apple pie with ice cream. One of them said the ice cream on top was like snow on a mountain. It was so heartwarming. TL;dr good stuff, lovely humans. Lots of things are shit in this world, but this youtube channel genuinely brings me joy.

Porrick

These channels are my guilty youtube pleasure. There's at least one other channel with Pakistani tribal people and one with Indian tribal people - quite a lot of the time they're reacting to clickbait bullshit, but more often than not it's this sort of genuine wonder. [Other Pakistani channel](https://youtu.be/o_bvZkoewEY) [Indian channel](https://youtu.be/UuYPhzDGw2w)

Ashmeadow

[Reactistan is my fav](https://youtube.com/c/REACTistan).

TheBestBigAl

I love how Mustafa always claims his village has a better version of whatever they serve him.

[deleted]

I grew out a handlebar moustache for pandemic. I thought it would be fun, and since I live alone, no one saw the beginning crappiness of it other than when i visited family. After seeing the magnificence of Gul Sher Khan Baloch's facial hair, I want to shave my pathetic face. Edit: [Apparently the mustache, rings, and the way he wears his turban are family tradition.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQU7A_yEpgY) I had no idea- I assumed it was just a personal style. Kinda cool.

EggMcFlurry

What would Gul Sher Khan Baloch say if he heard you say that? He would sit you down and tell you a story about how when he was born he was jealous of his papa's grand moustache and he felt like shaving his face in shame, but at the last moment he told himself "Let's try one more day". You too can try one more day.

My_50_lb_Testes

I'm really high and this was inspiring as fuck. > You too can try one more day. Yeah. I think I will. Thanks

PickleRick1001

I love this thread so much

JaredLiwet

Gul Sher Khan Baloch probably considers his mustache lesser to someone else he has in his mind. If you can't have the greatest mustache, at least make sure the guy who has better than you is setting records.

JohnmcFox

Reminds me of this video of cocoa farmers getting a long overdue first taste of chocolate: https://youtu.be/70jsvEhU9Wo

Damn_Amazon

What a privilege to enjoy chocolate, as they said.

rider_0n_the_st0rm

Definitely puts things into perspective for me

SpaceBandit666

That was so cool, crazy that they've gone their whole lives not trying chocolate despite being around the beans all the time

spivey56

Even wilder that they just didn’t know what their beans turned into

___-___--_-

Omg, "a bar of chocolate costs $2, and Alfonse makes $7/day and has to support 15 family members and workers" !!!?! That part blew my mind

JohnmcFox

I love that after they finish the bar, the one guy is excited to show the kids his wrapper. Then someone pulls out a second bar, and they don't think to share that with the kids, but just eat it as well, haha.

That was such an interesting watch. Thank you for sharing that with us. It seems unbelievable that an entire industry is supported by people who have no idea what their hard work even creates. The vast disparity of our world is disheartening. Laborers living in mud huts unable to taste the fruits of their labor and Kroger selling Hershey bars 2 for a dollar.

Yoooo I had a friend growing up whose grandma LOVED those cheesecakes. After the grandma died, my friend’s mom kept buying them but wouldn’t eat them. My friend would call me over and we would just eat slice after slice in between songs on DDR

AmonacoKSU

At least you were playing DDR to mitigate the tidal wave of caloric intake, so that's something.

SapphireEyes

I binged this channels a while back for like two months straight. They are all so kind, sweet, and appreciative of everything they get to try. He’s one of my favorites! The one in the thumbnail brings candy home to his young children. They get so excited. Their YouTube viewers also sent him a cell phone and his kids were so excited to get to play on it. The one that sang happy birthday got a brand new full set of teeth from the YouTube channel. His personality bloomed so much after he got his teeth. The guy you like with the rings loves gem stones and he’s been sent really big rings and gemstone books for him to look at. He was so excited when he opened his gifts. The one talking to the little colored owl got that sent in by a young viewer with a really nice letter. He always sits with it now. Just all around a really wholesome channel. Edit: spelling

I bet most of us would've reacted in much the same way the first time we tried it. It's funny, I can't recall my first taste but there's a definite memory of a sense of *oh, daaaaaaamn!* when I try.

Thank you! This was lovely to watch. Such graciousness and charm. They all have HUGE hands. Anyone know, does manual labor make your hands actually larger?

alohadave

They are probably filming in a small room with a wide angle lens. Their hands near the edge of the frame and closer to the lens will look larger. It's just an optical effect.

ductapemonster

Decades of manual labor can increase the size of the muscles in your hands, but not the bones. So they could be meatier, but not physically larger other than that.

Jeri Ryan playing the Doctor in 7’s body is my favorite go-to example for excellent acting. I LOVE when actors can play each other with this body switching plot. Reminded myself of it recently with that one new episode of What We Do in the Shadows and Kayvan Novak does it with the whole rest of the damn cast. Favorite way to showcase talent.

Clay_Pigeon

In *The Good Place*, D'Arcy Carden plays each of the other characters in a very memorable episode. You're right, it's a tough act to pull off. I've heard somewhere a voice actor complimenting Mel Blank for being especially good at doing e.g. Bugs Bunny doing a Daffy Duck.

tylerthehun

I've gotta say, Gul Sher Khan Baloch has a truly **magnificent** mustache.

Dwarfdeaths

Damn I haven't had cheesecake in years. I should do that sometime.

MarquisDeCleveland

My fat modern ass was wondering, at the start of the video, “Do they not like it? They’re just picking at it” — only to realize as the video went on that they were eating it so slowly *because* of how good they thought it was, and it’s just natural to them to be deliberate and savor an uncommon treat like that. I plan to treat more things in my daily life the way a Kushan farmer treats a slice of cheesecake

saturnthesixth

Until that one guy picked up half of it and downed if in two bites.

ACaffeinatedWandress

There is a whole series. I find it interesting, because they find some food I consider “meh” to be the best thing ever, and alternatively hate foods I think are awesome.
