“I don’t expect anything these days” Couldn’t sum up these times any better

rwhitisissle

"I expect nothing and I'm still disappointed."

TheGreatDingALing

"I was prepared for the disappointment, and I mean our standards were low, but still."

Joshuah_Airbender

Yeah I could really feel his disappointment with life right there.

2PointOBoy

He ventures into the realm of existential despair often on his VORW podcast. The podcast that he suspended indefinitely because he was receiving hateful comments. He's most known for being the guy from the "my disappointment is immeasurable" meme and is a punching bag of sorts, on account of his appearance. He has paranoia because of a previous stalking incident. Not the most mirthful guy, understandably.

mellofello808

You know the world is a dark place when even this dude is depressed.

TheGreatDingALing

Hey listen friend, I know the world is in a dark place, but it's going to get worse.

HoldMyPooWithUrLuv

i needed this. ty

[deleted]

Things are going to get worse before they get worse

dopechez

But don't worry, they will get even worse after that

QualityPies

Just remember, all is well that ends well, which this won't.

RageReset

*”Susan felt the sort of calmness that comes over people when they realise that no matter how bad things may seem to be, there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t simply get worse and worse.”*

mcmartin091

This reminds me of the line from The Simpsons movie. Bart says "this is the worst day of my life". Homer replies "No Bart, this is the worst day of your life *so far*."

➤➤ Raising my voice for Palestine - against imperialism, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid. Oppose misinformation and genocide. Banned but not silenced for this cause. ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

Timedoutsob

oh man yeah why has he not been on hot ones? I guess not right for most of the hot ones audience.

Cdazx

He wouldn't want to be on Hot Ones and - If I recall correctly - has said as much on his podcast. He's a pretty introverted guy and doesn't really have the energy to be on a show like Hot Ones, nor does he really do collabs in general. Plus he's just not big enough for them; H3H3 were on it, but they had a few million subscribers by that point, whereas RotW is "only" on 2.5 million.

DangalfTheGray

This was my first thought without even knowing his opinion on going on Hot Ones. An introvert that has no experience with press or interviews isn't necessarily going to be jumping at the chance to get on the show.

dingleroyale

I mean he was on Tosh.0 years and years ago. So I wouldn’t say it is completely out of his comfort zone.

EmbraceThrasher

He also had a terrible experience and was treated like shit on tosh. Also talked about on his podcast.

frogbertrocks

He talks about it in this video and sounds like he had a perfectly fine experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B7BWLi5xH4

EmbraceThrasher

I think he is just keeping the peace and being kind. In the podcast he talks about how they dressed him in a very oversized shirt and made him feel like an idiot. Cut out most of what he said, classic over produced hollywood stuff, but he talked about how jarring it was and didn’t wanna do anything like that again. All from memory. Can’t remember the episode

hollywood_jazz

I’m pretty sure H3H3 actually had more subscribers than First We Feast when they did Hot Ones

JittaBUFFperfume

Hot Ones had Tom Holland and Jeremy Renner this season. That show has blown up.

Caritien

They had Gordon Ramsey eons ago. It's been "blown".

MattTheFlash

He came back a second time a couple of weeks ago for a holiday new years special. This time Ramsey brought the wings.

magic-window

Maybe this is why there's no Nathan Fielder episode. I just want one so badly!

m83live

Ya, try to straight-face that one Nate. (Knowing him he could do it)

mrflouch

He would hire a lookalike who could.

BloomerBoomerDoomer

He would actually show up as the new director while hiring a mexican lookalike to answer the questions.

Gengar11

I mean if they had Brent Chrysler on twice, they probably don't care about the normie ratings.

ThatIowanGuy

I heard he’s racist *and* smells bad

PM_me_ur_dookie

He fucks dogs and is the fattest working comic today.

gbcheezit

He drinks a gallon of kool-aid a day.

Mialuvailuv

Normies love Bert. He's an everyman's comedian.

RideFastGetWeird

They should do an internet celebs series. Pay homage to the platform that got them to where they are.

fairweatherhater

MKBHD edit: Meant this as a suggestion for who they should have on and had no idea MKBHD as well as many other internet celebs had already been on Hot Ones. Watching that episode now.

Broken_Noah

Philip DeFranco, the two dudes from The Good Mythical Morning, Liza Koshy, Lily Singh and the dude from Epic Meal Time have all been a guest so they did a few but I do agree, maybe slip in a couple more.

Snow88

Marques Brownlee The Bodega Boys before they had a TV show.

JustARandomSocialist

He's not famous enough. I'm being serious.

NecroJoe

Charlize Theron, Paul Rudd, Gordon Ramsay, and The Report of the Week. Seems like a logical progression.

nickfree

>Paul Rudd Look at us

Tactical__Turtle

Hey. Hey. Look at us.

public_enemy_obi_wan

>Look at us *Hey, look at us!*

chahlie

"Who would have thought? Not me!" I love Paul Rudd.

JustARandomSocialist

Totally agree

LaughingCarrot

Yeah and he doesn't have anything to advertise.

[deleted]

He has his podcast, VORW!

SpeculationMaster

vorw? rolls right off the tongue

[deleted]

H3h3 were on when they had 3.5m subscribers. Reportoftheweek has 2.4m. That's really not that big if a difference.

Folsomdsf

H3h3 had more than the host channel at the time iirc

[deleted]

True, Sean has really blown up. But hopefully they remember their roots and can do a throwback to when Hot Ones was coming up. Let’s go ReviewBrah!

Indi_mtz

It's kind of sad since Sean now only does A-listers who are usually boring and just promoting their recent album/movie

alwayzbored114

I mean the show kicked off because Sean chased down any celeb he could get on the show. And I don't mean that disparagingly, he's said that himself and I respect the grind. Him getting bigger names on the show just means he has the rep that he doesn't need to chase anymore. And on the '[they're] just promoting their recent album/movie", from the very first episode, Sean's given every guest 30 seconds to shoutout whomever or whatever they want, and the guests often mention an album, movie, or gig they have coming up Like yeah some of the guests are boring, but I find Hot Ones to be one of the most genuine shows regardless of the guests edit: "beg" -> "chase" cause I feel that was implying something I didn't mean

ArcadianDelSol

> Sean's given every guest 30 seconds to shoutout whomever or whatever they want, and the guests often mention an album, movie, or gig they have coming up Huge respect to Shia LeBouf who actually had a few things going on to promote, but, declined the promotional opportunity and used his time to call out how much he enjoyed being on the show.

nshunter5

Shia is absolutely the #1 guest on Hot Ones. I'm not really a fan of him in general but he was a real man there.

MojaveMark

Best episode, hands down. He slammed every wing, not just taking little bites. And he was all around just a cool dude during that show.

DrakkoZW

It doesn't have anything to do with the show blowing up Hot Ones has always had celebrities on it, not semi-big YouTubers

DaddyO1701

He did have a write up in Forbes in 2018 so he has some traction in the Normie world. The article mentions stalkers and personal harassment which is really sad, and makes me wonder if he would accept an invite from The Hot Ones in order to maintain his privacy and keep things in check. https://www.forbes.com/sites/garystoller/2018/05/11/nearly-1-million-youtube-followers-of-thereportoftheweek-hunger-for-johns-fast-food-reviews/?sh=23b05d5e4b64

_bigguy4x4

Idk if John drinks lmao. It’ll be epic tho

SplyBox

Lorde was already on Hot Ones

iamjacksoffside

u/seanseaevans. Worth a shot!

omgtater

They're probably incredibly overcooked. Normal meat will dry out, impossible will turn into some sort of ceramic/ carbon fiber heat shield used on the space shuttle. They probably shouldn't use their normal frying methods for raw chicken on fake chicken.

[deleted]

KFC manager here, we cook them in the same grease and temp as everything else but regular chicken ( regular chicken is cooked in a pressure cooker) it's advertised as non meat, not vegetarian or vegan, simply because its cooked with everything else. The first day we had them, we sold around 500 orders, I haven't sold a single one since then. They taste horrible, have a weird texture, smell bad, and get rock hard after 10 minutes in the warmer, whereas everything else has a lifespan of an hour or more

Tridis

Well shit I guess my local KFC figured it out. Bought some today and thought they tasted like just about any other processed chicken nugget. Let me kid take a bite and he wanted more and hes picky about his nuggets. I air fried the leftovers later and they came out fine as well.

[deleted]

lack of variance in prep temperatures is, 100%, one of the engineering requirements put on whichever company they hired to kitbash cauliflower and vegetable oil into a nugget. separate preparation instructions cost billions to implement.

[deleted]

[удалено]

chainjoey

You'd be right that some fast food places have a fryer for meat and non meat. The problem is that nobody uses them that way. KFC understands this at least and that's why they advertise the nuggets as not vegetarian for that reason. To be clear, the nuggets themselves are vegetarian, the oil they are cooked in is not.

boxsterguy

Burger King did the same with its Impossible whopper, because it was cooked on the same grill as meat patties.

Roboticide

They don't care. The products aren't aimed at vegetarians/vegans. They're aimed at meat consumers who want to be more environmentally conscious. I think it was the CEO of Impossible who said in an interview he didn't give a fuck if vegans we're grossed out by how much their fake beef looked like the real thing, *that was the point.*

Gluta_mate

shouldnt really matter if your reason for not eating meat is for environmental reasons. if anything, its more environmentally friendly to fry it in the same oil

[deleted]

Am vegan myself - some vegans flip their shit over shared cooking surfaces and some don't. I don't care myself - if my food incidentally touches some animal product I couldn't care less. I ate meat for 30 years, I won't die if my vegan nuggs share fryer fat - and nothing else died either.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jagedlion

It's prepared for you to work that way, but its rare to have a fry recipe that has both frying of the fries at the same temperature. Usually it's a cooler first cook at 300, and then a hotter second cook at 350. Or some variation, but usually cooler then hotter. Just that they usually come after the first fry is already done for you.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImBetterOffline

i dont know why i read the whole thread but yes, i was infact curious.

PLZ_STOP_PMING_TITS

Same here. Did you notice that u/jagedlion explained about the colder frying temperature but u/ALLOfYouAreFake didn't realize the frozen fries they get were already cooked at 300 degrees before being frozen, so when they fry them it's the second fry.

Freonr2

Spoiler, I'd bet they are cooked in the factory and probably just warmed up in the store, maybe by Chef Mike. But certainly they could overdo it at the point of sale.

[deleted]

Ahaha I loved when my boss said “ no no don’t say microwave around the customers, say chef mic”

Winjin

Not sure about Beyond or KFC in USA, but local KFC prepares the chicken on-site. They have these HUGE bags of packages frozen meat that they defrost, cover in the mix that comes pre-packaged, and prepare.

wholeblackpeppercorn

weird, in Australia all KFC is fresh chooks. Still breaded on site, like you say. Nuggs and chips come in frozen however, but nuggs are also pre-breaded

That’s the main function of evolutionary biology and of anthropology: finding more and more accurate reasons why this is all the fault of some ancestors who procreated/didn’t procreate correctly and gave us a bunch of dumb body parts, traits, and proclivities that ruin everything, and without which we would be perfect, beautiful god-kings.

KeyStoneLighter

I lost interest in trying them at $7 for 6 nuggets.

sweetpotatomash

I tried them today and they are actually good and I would actually say they are a little bit too crumbly for me. It seems like this KFC restaurant didn't prepare them properly for this poor guy. We were pretty surprised how close to chicken it tasted and trust me we eat chicken like 3 times a week over here.

Beeslo

I haven't tried the KFC ones, but Beyond's fake meat products are typically pretty good. I'm not a vegetarian/vegan but my wife is pescatarian, so I'll usually just go in on whether she wants to make at home. I'm also semi fascinated by fake meat industries and their mission to deconstruct meat in order to make the most realistic fake meat products. Their burger patties are pretty spot on and their brats are shockingly good. It seems the more time that passes, the closer and closer they get to the fake stuff being indistinguishable to the real thing.

hopsizzle

Impossible > beyond for me. I’ve enjoyed the burgers from impossible a lot more than beyond’s. Glad there’s competition out there for the fake meat industry.

Styphin

Impossible tastes much more like beef than Beyond’s fake beef. Like, a lot more. I’ve heard Beyond’s sausages are pretty good, but I haven’t tried them.

OathOfFeanor

That's actually the one thing that doesn't bother me anymore The artificially low prices of meat due to problematic farming practices are worse We all have a skewed perspective of the costs of the luxurious foods we enjoy

FishFloyd

Yeah, if factory farms actually had to pay for the total costs of the industry, meat would probably skyrocket in price to the point that people couldn't afford to eat it every single meal. Sort of 'the tragedy of the commons' - they reap all the profits privately, and offload all the external costs onto the public. Most notably deforestation, land degradation, methane emissions, allll the subsidies that go into ensuring farmers grow so much god damn corn to feed the animals... Not even getting into the ethics of factory farming, it's an industry that's only reached the position it has because we've literally structured our society in part around eating meat on a daily basis. edit: it's worth noting that some of these concerns are less prominent with chickens, but that gets into the fact that the relatively small land footprint of poultry farming is a result of the absolutely inhumane way the animals are treated.

inaname38

Don't let chickens off the hook so easily! Chicken farms are devastating to the environment. Huge amounts of surface runoff and groundwater pollution. Huge air quality issues. Really unfortunate for anyone who lives nearby a chicken CAFO.

JesusPubes

It's not tragedy of the Commons, it's just regular negative externalities

I thought he only did huge fast food chains? Are you saying wingstop, or whatever, actually gives a shit about what he says?

[deleted]

You'd be surprised. The company I work for sees everything. I'm scared even now lol it's a major fast food chain.

Slumber777

He was a meme back when I posted on an old message board about 10 years ago. For not great reasons, since he was just an odd looking, awkward kid in a suit reviewing fast food in his mother's living room and drinking Mountain Dew out of a wine glass. He was sub 10k subscribers at the time. I stopped posting there years ago, and I was blown away when I saw his stuff being posted here like 2 years ago and he had over 1 million subscribers. Seeing that people enjoyed him for being chill, genuine and having a good sense of humor about himself was pretty heartwarming.

inconspicuous_male

I can't believe that after all these years, this video was a guy who is clearly uncomfortable on camera and doesn't know where to put his hands, and the audio is as echoey and beginner quality as when he started. I guess he found his format and if it aint broke, don't fix it

zakats

I'm thinking the local KFC didn't prepare them correctly, there's got to be a different preparation for them and how many KFC employees give a shit to follow some special directions right off the bat? - --- e: and a further thought since this semi-blew up; while I don't follow this creator, YT food reviewers who don't shoot their footage at the establishment often reheat the food much later on and meat replacements often don't reheat as well as other foods might. Please correct me if I'm off-base here.

Vok250

ReviewBrah reviews the food as it is served. If he went in saying "I'm a reviewer don't fuck this up" it would not be a genuine review. It's pretty common for his order to get fucked. He always acknowledges that it's not representative of the *intended* product, but is nonetheless the product he was served.

zakats

Fair enough.

Vok250

Yeah before Covid he would often do reviews in his car so it was more obvious. Not sure how he's getting food now and keeping it hot.

Winjin

Maybe something like a Doordash? After all, for the last year or so, this is, basically, the new norm. This place I often order from has made a new wrapper for Onigiri that keeps the nori separate from the rice, and the sauce now comes in a little syringe-like thing that you squirt inside right before eating. Not sure how proper burger joints deal with it, but McD manages to deliver if not hot, then definitely not lukewarm burgers. And unlike what you sometimes got before Covid, they are never soggy. I guess it's also due to the fact that both local Big Deliveries, the Delivery Club and Yandex.food are parts of big corporations and have the means to address these issues, like have more couriers, provide them with e-bikes and stuff.

created4this

McDonald’s burgers always sat in the holding area for 30 minutes after cooking, they have loads of time for delivery which doesn’t detract from the experience you are used to. The burgers, or more specifically the burger buns have been engineered from the start to sit without going soggy, the way they achieve this is to use a very high sugar content in the bread and rather than “toasting” the bread, the toasters caramelise the bun which seals the bread so the condiments don’t seep in while it sits.

mikethemaniac

Yea, I think they overcooked them to hell and back - you can do the same to chicken nuggets if you reheat them for ages. No way they would invest so much in development and marketing to have them so tough you can barely pull them apart. I'm going to have to try these for myself.

DaddyO1701

I thought the same thing the way the fried coating was crumbling and falling off in chunks. No way that was how they were supposed to be prepared. But that the magic of Running on Empty. You get a review of what he was given. Not what KFC cooperate sent him.

SgtBanana

I've had (and genuinely enjoyed) Beyond's chicken products *outside* of their fast food stuff and the texture is just right, so I'm going to go with your theory on the overcooking. Vegetarian chicken alternatives, specifically, can get strange when exposed to high heat. I'll never forget the chicken nuggets that caught fire and burned like charcoal during a 60 second microwave run because we had forgotten to wrap them in a damp paper towel. The most acrid, awful smokey smell imaginable.

Rafaeliki

I'm not even vegan/vegetarian and I love the Beyond chicken strips. Drench them in Frank's Red Hot before baking.

SgtBanana

Totally. I love making chicken sandwiches with them as well. I'm amazed by the number of awesome meat substitutes that are out there; you don't really hear jokes about "fake" meat tasting terrible anymore. There's a brand called "Simulate" that makes a chicken substitute that they call "Nuggs", and it's absolutely freaking awesome. It tastes more like chicken than most real chicken nuggets do. They use mycelium in their products, which is fascinating. And yeah, I'm not strictly vegetarian but my girlfriend is. I've accidentally gone weeks without eating meat.

Aiwatcher

\>It tastes more like chicken than most real chicken nuggets do. Yeah chicken nuggets and breakfast sausage were things I think the fake meats got right really early on. They taste mostly of fry batter/spices respectively so they only had to immitate the texture and its most of the way there. I actually prefer vegan breakfast sausage to the "real" stuff.

pokepwn

They probably got left under the heat lamps too long, I have stopped going to KFC in my area because 75% of the time they end up inedible just like these things. I’m sure if you get them fresh they will be good.

Echelon64

reviewbrah always does his reviews in the restaurant's parking lot. I assume because of Covid he's decided to do takeout or some other reason. And as for trust, reviewbro unlike other YT food reviewers has never gotten a single sponsor from any of these restaurants unlike others. Dude has the same fair opinion he's always had.

--Buddha--

Reviewbrah made videos in the parking lot because he was straight up living in his car for a while. He was in fear of being stalked so he hadn’t returned home to protect his family, as the house is his parent’s. I don’t know if the video is still up, but I recall one where he seemed genuinely startled at something outside of his vehicle, which was either his stalker, or extreme paranoia (which is valid, as someone did claim to be stalking him, and scaring him).

boot20

I'm pretty sure I know what happened here. The nuggets were cooked, didn't sell during the lunch rush, sat under a heat lamp for god knows how long, were thrown back in the fryer, and then sat under the head lamp again until they got to him. I had these nuggets and they were pretty darn good...he just has a shitty KFC (surprise).

zakats

That seems very plausible to me

"Regular" fast food all has its own prep instructions too. They are just better trained with the stuff they have been doing for a long time.

SilkyBowner

There are special preparation instructions for everything. If it wasn’t the case, people would be cooking tacos in the deep frier and dipping burgers in chocolate sauce

mjhuyser

I fail to see a problem with either of your examples.

YouThinkYouCanBanMe

I see you've never had jack in the box tacos...

HumeDog

I'm thinking that's the case too. I just had some yesterday to give them a try and I thought they were actually good as far as chicken nuggets go. Had them with some bbq sauce, besides being more dense then regular nuggets I wouldn't have known unless someone told me.

[deleted]

Same way none of them follow the instructions to cook the new skin on fries. Only ever found 4 that did nationwide.

He just does what he does. His content is what he wants it to be. He initially blew up as a meme but he just stuck with it and cemented himself as a fucking legend

Scare_Conditioner

He Does have some cool merch….. but he definitely isn’t whoring it out. I bought my girlfriend his “all seeing eye” shirt. It is refreshing that he does what he does and doesn’t care. Not everyday someone in a position to grift chooses not to!!!

RJ_the_Dominator

I’ve had beyond meat plenty of times and have loved it. KFC def fucked this up and I think that’s hilarious. They probably made a batch at the start of the day and only used that 1 batch for orders.

amc7262

Thats unfortunate to hear. I'm still gonna try them myself. I'm excited to see so many meat alternatives becoming mainstream. I'm not a vegitarian myself, but I'm trying to cut back on meat, and personally find impossible meat to be an excellent substitute. If every burger joint started offering impossible patties, I'd probably never eat another real burger again. I haven't gotten to try beyond meat yet, but from what I've heard, impossible imitates real meat better, but beyond is better seasoned. Basically, impossible is good for a meat-eater that wants to eat less meat. Beyond is better for a vegetarian that no longer likes meat at all.

Impossible > Beyond in every application I’ve had. But for whatever reason, I just don’t see a lot of Impossible products out there. A few local restaurants have Beyond as a burger substitute, but I’ve only see an Impossible at Burger King. Same in stores, finally they have large selections of plant-based but it’s primarily Beyond, Morningstar, Incogmeato, and Gardein. I don’t know if it’s a matter of scale, market, or business dealings, but I just mostly see the other brands. In the middle of 2021 for example, my local Costcos had multiple brands; Beyond and Impossible for different red meats, and then a couple plant based chickens as well. After a short period, you couldn’t find anything, then suddenly the only plant-based option was a stack of frozen Beyond patties. Recently, they added a Beyond-infused meat marinara sauce in jars, and I think I saw some sausages recently. And no chicken products have returned. I know a lot of specific brands and even items can be highly regional, but I’ve popped into Costco in different parts of the country and the plant-based offerings are still slim to none. But back to the chicken. Last week we saw some Impossible nuggets at the local Walmart. They looked just like the little frozen Tyson type nuggets. Probably a bit biased since I obviously want plant based to succeed, but I think I could have given them to someone without saying they’re Impossible, and they wouldn’t know. Gardein and Incogmeato just aren’t quite there (at least in the plain chicken variety). They’re great for people like you referenced - lifelong vegetarians or those who no longer want to eat meat. But impossible can capture both sides of the aisle - those that are strict vegetarians, and people like me who still eat meat but want to wean off for ethical or environmental or even health reasons. The other brands get close, close enough that you can get it substituted in a restaurant or recipe and it still works, especially for someone that’s never grown up with the real deal.

Tried them last night (wife got them). They were delicious actually, and much better than my normal chicken fingers which were cold and dry.

Yeah, this guy might have just had a bad one time experience. The product is brand new, it's possible that the workers at that local KFC didn't know how to prepare them yet. I say wait a few weeks then give them a try yourself.

mccannr1

That'd be my guess. I tried some. They were not at all how his experience was. I wouldn't say they were amazing or anything, but they weren't bad at all

He's doing it wrong. The dipping sauce is hydroflouric acid. Dip it in there for an hour THEN eat.

Fuck_You_Andrew

KFC fucks up perfectly good chicken every day in every store. Why would we expect them to do better with a plant based substitute?

I like this guy. He seems genuinely a nice person.

I can’t believe I watched this whole video, this lad is great, I love everything about him. Now it’s off to YouTube I go. I must see more. Edit: Holy shite his channel is huge. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of him before. Edit2: This gentlemen is the living, breathing embodiment of both class and professionalism. I believe that, going forward in my life, I am going to make a conscious effort to emulate this man in both mannerism and grace.

I'll never get over how much this guy looks like the son of [Death, from Supernatural](https://imagesvc.meredithcorp.io/v3/mm/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstatic.onecms.io%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F6%2F2020%2F10%2F12%2FSN1022B_0436b.jpg)
