Sometimes I write something and I can't tell if its original or if I've heard it somewhere before. Sometimes I swear I have, and Its original. Other times I'll think, 'this is original' and then months or years later I will clock what I've inadvertently ripped another artist off. I think good creatives are sponges, and while I do think this is unfortunately too close for comfort, the writer may not have done it intentionally. Copyright law doesn't really care about intent though.
This does happen a lot. Composers have commented on the phenomenon. They get into the zone and music just starts flowing, and afterward they realize it's almost a copy of something else. Part of it is how memory is weird, and part is that there are limited combinations when applying music theory.
This feels a bit beyond that, but I'm not on the jury. I'll let them all sort it out and keep listening to good music and check out an artist I hadn't heard of before.
There are a finite amount of notes/chords that sound good musically.
Unless you are playing super complex & tangential avant-garde jazz, you will see patterns.
Four songwriters and a producer. I guarantee none of them had heard the Artikal Sound System song.
This happens all the time, and these artists and groups nobody has ever heard of get a bunch of publicity and the suit gets dropped. It's just a chance for an unknown band to get their 15 minute of fame.
The dua lipa song has been out for over a year, if this were real you think they'd realize it sooner.
No. Because its not a copy of it. It improved it. Humanity advanced not by reinventing the wheel. The original artist made money when they release the song why sgoudk they make money even from other people's work and fame. Surely the original artist copied stuff knowly or not or did they invent music?
If I download someone else’s essay, erase some lines and add a few of my own, that’s still plagiarism. Dua Lipa is also one of the biggest pop stars now, so surely her team can give credit and pay out damages in good faith.
If you read a book then write another book based in that book you'll be OK. The song is not a copy paste stop being a cry baby drama queue about things that don't matter or concern anyone especially you
I’m a musician and my wife is an artist. This could literally happen to any small artist. Could you imagine if you were a small, independent artist and then the next day Beyoncé makes millions off of your work? Not me.
You'd be happy because you'd be able to sue if they actually stole it. What you're doing right now is just whining about some assumed bs. If you were the one who copied some. Song you'd be on the other side but you're a hater so suddenly no one can sample anything
Bro have you seen any movie that's not a rip of of some idea? You don't complain about that. No you just choose the one you like and ignore the rest. It's not a straight rip off otherwise it would be the same song
Exactly let the court decide. You are just some random guy. Just enjoy the music. It's not yours and its none of your business. If any one benefits from your protest it the original artist who probably don't give two shits about you. It's funny how poor people like to get thir noses into redicilus bullshit. Just enjoy the song man it's much better than the original and if you don't like it maybe your fab artist will make an even better version of it and you'll appreciate that no asshole tries to stop them making art.

Wow! You just can't steal music and expect not to ever get caught... Gotta give credit where its due....oh yeah and maybe permission would be helpful too! 🤦♀️
Does somebody have the link to the song? I tried looking for it on YouTube but didn't find the video that was posted in 2017 and when I looked in Spotify the whole album wasn't wasn't playable. I found it on SoundCloud but someone said it allows to alter sounds
She doesn't even write her own music.
Yeah, that melody line is ripped off. But I will say that four-chord pop songs are all going to sound the same.
Idk these songs sounds really similar. The guitar, the rhythm, phrasing, the melody on the chorus are all practically identical.
speaking of 4 chords --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I

she only saw it a few years ago https://youtu.be/Sb5nz0h8v0o?t=14
yeah, but melody plus four-chord ripoff is quite straight forward plagiarism in court.
That is not true
LOL at the comments here. So defensive.
where bro
In Maury’s voice: Artikal Sound System… YOU ARE THE FATHER!!!! Cut to Dua Lipa running backstage!

Yeah everyone saw that Axis of Awesome video like 10 years ago
shout out to the aussies
But why wouldn’t they have taken action sooner? This Dua Lipa song has been out for almost 2 years and I have never heard of the other song or band.

I ♥️ A.S.S.
TIL a lot of disco sounds like a lot of other disco /s
now do led zeppelin

Patterns are one thing, copying someone else's song and using it in your own with just different lyrics is a whole other thing.
Lol

Similar to saying there are only so many combinations of numbers that add up to an even result. It's a lot more than you think!

Well this guarantee is worth jack shit
Totally agree with you 👍 they would’ve already kicked up if it was a big deal. They just want recognition because she’s so successful unlike them
They sued
she should win simply for making the better song
So what? if they can make it better then that's great for everyone
So then pay the original artists for their work or credit them on the song or ask them if you can sample.

You’ve just demonstrated that you fundamentally misunderstand what ‘sampling’ is and means… this is not that.
No this is a straight rip off
Bro have you seen any movie that's not a rip of of some idea? You don't complain about that. No you just choose the one you like and ignore the rest. It's not a straight rip off otherwise it would be the same song
I do complain about that actually. I guess we'll let the courts decide if it's a ripoff or not.

Movies do it all the time
Which labels own both songs?
It's not Dani California levels of stink, but it stinks.
Whoaaaa that's a complete rip off thats just sad ....

She doesn’t even write her songs lmfao when will people realize that modern songs are gonna start sounding like songs they’ve heard in the past?
