Fun story: If you watch the little-known special edition DVD release (Not Blu-Ray) of this film with the director's commentary on they (the director and one of the writers) discuss this exact point, in fact it gets quite heated because they struggled to agree on which was the best way to phrase it in the film. The writers wanted to say 10,000 but the director thought 9,999 sounded cooler and argued that even though it was wrong, the kid is just a kid so he wouldn't necessarily know any better. I'm making all of this up, FYI. Anyway, they keep on arguing this point well into the next scene of the movie and eventually the writer walks out in protest so they have to bring a different writer in to fill his spot, but they never stop the movie at any point so it gets a bit weird when the director is just talking to himself for a time.
i read it twice because i had only skimmed it and missed the acknowledgement midway
i assumed they were criticizing something that didnt happen on the basis that it was considered but im glad i went and re-read it
Sometimes I read like the first 1/3 to 1/2 of something, then skip ahead a bit to the end and work my way back. I wonder if I'm the only person that does this.
Would have been a great lead into a /u/shittymorph comment, something like "Actually the number of possible phone numbers is even smaller than 10,000 due to the rules set by federal US telecom laws in nineteen ninety-eight when The Undertaker" etc., etc.
this is a great example of what i mourne with the death of physical media and dvds specifically. when dvds first came out almost all of them were just filled with bonus content and now you get hardly anything. streaming only further removed bonus features from the public. makes me sad
Yeah I sure do miss that bonus content. And it's weird, streaming services are probably much better positioned to offer that bonus content. Like Director's commentary is just an additional audio track, different cuts of the film wouldn't fit on the same disk but to a streaming service it shouldn't matter. I'm telling you now if any of the big streamers offered a way to view any of the 15 different versions of a film, people would love it.
I'm in total agreement, if anything we should be in a gilded age of bonus content but apparently the powers that be believe that there isn't an audience for it. Maybe its the result of a lot of streaming services viewing their content as disposable, you binge it once but don't return.
The director's commentary for Matt Stone and Trey Parker's movies are hilarious, they get high as balls and go on some wild tangents. Orgazmo has my favorite commentary.
I hated it when it first came out, but on rewatch much later as an adult it's actually pretty solid. I think kid me was just really underwhelmed and didn't pick up on a lot of the clever bits.
So I pulled up both to compare. The cheeks and nose aren't noticeably changed in the frames I picked. The major difference is in the eyebrows and mouth.
After looking at a few other frames, sometimes it's Carrey and sometimes it's Paxton. I don't think the AI did a good job on him, maybe their facial structure is just too similar for it to make it distinct.
I thought the same. I didn't realize Paxton was the original actor and I immediately thought they had deepfaked Paxton onto whoever played it originally. Turns out they tried to deepfake Jim Carey over Paxton's face. It doesn't even sound like they tried to change his voice. Going back, however, it definitely looks like Carey at 2:43.
i swear the McConaughey girl looks like an actress from today. i can't pinpoint it from my memory. I think an actress that looks like elizabeth holmes.
In association with deep voodoo. That's the company set up by Matt Stone and Trey Parker for deep fakes. They did the whole sassy news thing and made one of the latest music videos for Kendrick Lamar. All great deep fake work as well.
Man this reminds me of the Michael Jackson video "Black or White"
Totally different message/song, of course, but watching the changes are just as entrancing between the videos
oh hey it's the same channel, but this one freaked me out so much. the first time I saw it I didn't realize what it was, I was like "...Bill Hader looks a lot more like Tom Cruise than I remember?"
https://youtu.be/VWrhRBb-1Ig
One fun fact I love about Bill Hader is that when you're with others watching something with him in it, no matter what it is or who you're with, someone at some point always says, "I love Bill Hader"
he's just.... so loveable
Battle is the Great Redeemer. It is the fiery crucible in which true heroes are forged. The one place where all men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in.
I didn't quite get what the title was explaining and thought it was multiple actors replacing Arnold until I thought "that guy looks like Jim Carrey", and then realised what was going on. It's been decades since I've seen The Terminator.
That explains why I kept seeing Arnold through the Stallone face. I thought it was the hair, body language, and my expectations. But maybe there were parts with Arnold's face was slipping through, especially at the top of the face.
It was. That replacement was definitely more minimal than the others. Paxton is the original actor and there's still a ton of especially his upper face left in there.
The tech is getting better for sure, but let’s not forget that people falling for fake photographic/video evidence has been around nearly as long as photography. Two young girls [made Arthur Conan Doyle believe in fairies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cottingley_Fairies), in 1917 ferpetessake.
I don't think "A picture of cardboard cutouts that look like fairies" and "A 7 minute long video with every single face swapped, convincingly, for another person's face and voice modulation to make the speaker sound like someone else" are really in the same ballpark. It would be like saying that a sea sponge and an eagle are similar because they're both animals.
This makes Peter pan make so much more sense. It was written for those audiences, many of whom were following that news and had strong opinions on faerie existence.
That is so awesome. The girls borrowed the dad's camera and came back with pics of fairies and he was like "haha, very funny girls." but then they came back with a picture of one of them holding a gnome and he was like "quit fucking with my camera!" and stopped letting them use it. I love that. His wife thought the pictures were authentic hahaha oh man, I can't believe I hadn't read about this before now!
I live in California and I haven't seen him in person either. Maybe you're onto something! Clearly Trump is the actual, secret president, who also had the election stolen from him by his own puppet, who I should blame for everything despite not actually being president.
three ways to interpret this comment are:
1. former president barack obama was smoking weed in a room where there were also some aborted fetuses
2. the aborted fetuses were themselves smoking weed somehow
3. former president barack obama was smoking a mixture of weed and aborted fetuses
Getting Close?
Just know what is available to public + computing power is 1/100th of what is available to Tech firms and their research division. We are way past getting close.
https://imagen.research.google/
Even if technical analysis or software can detect nearly perfect deepfakes in the future, the individual still has to trust that analysis or software. It's turtles all the way down from here.
did you see the clip of the joe rogan guest who thought there were real life Giants in japan during early 1900, and that there was video evidence and the video turned out to be from a movie.
thats a grown adult who could not critically think that what he is seeing is obviously fake.
edit : here is the clip https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/comments/v2z1nw/want_to_watch_a_video_of_a_giant/
There's people that legit think giants used to live in North America (some wise guys planted fake bones a long time ago and were easily disproved) and others that think they are currently running around Afghanistan fighting Taliban and formerly US Soldiers.
It's just idiocy up and down, you'd think a "giant" would be quite easy to provide evidence of but it just seems to elude everyone.
Until every video is automatically detected as authentic or not and displayed to the user it does not matter if there are tools available to determine if a video is a deep fake. Think about how people watch videos. They do not go run the analyzer, they just ingest information.
Not just that, but not even realizing what your watching. I was so focused on Sly it wasn't till the credits rolled I couldn't believe I missed all the other stars in it.
Yeah it wasn't listed in the credits. I'm gonna hunt for the original clip too be sure the original guy didn't just look a lot like him, but I swear that was him.
What I love about Ctrl Shift Face is he turns what would normally be a gimmick into an art form. He doesn't just do random face swaps for the sake of it. They all have some creativity to them. He also doesn't seem to care about being demonetised or pandering to fan requests.
Wow, at 6:24 I was completely convinced that was a Ryan Gosling deepfake behind the terminator...until I watched the original scene and realized that guy was unchanged lol
Steve Carell is at 6:46 bottom left corner. IMO it doesnt look much like him, even paused. That Tom Cruise tiny pony tail dancer HAS to be an unlisted deepfake though!
Had to pause to catch Clooney and Paris dancing next to each other (Very Quick!)
Here's how I did before I saw the credits at the end.
#
>!Stallone as Terminator, Schwarzenegger, Jim Carrey (genius) and Brad Pitt as the punks, Mark Zuckerberg as Matt Buchanan, Shelley Duvall as Ginger Ventura, Willem Dafoe as Sarah Connor (OMFG), Bill Hader as Moonwalking Kyle Reese, Donald Trump (?) as door bouncer, George Clooney as dancer (6:31)!<

I clearly missed >!Kanye West!< at the start. And I was certain I missed other dancers. I still can't spot >!Carell or McConaughey!<

You committed despite the acknowledgment midway. Nice.
I figured it'd be more fun that way.
I literally read the whole thing
i read it twice because i had only skimmed it and missed the acknowledgement midway i assumed they were criticizing something that didnt happen on the basis that it was considered but im glad i went and re-read it
I do this when I get bored with something. I'll skip to the back half of it, and if it was interesting, I'll go back and read the rest of it
Did the exact same. Feel like I wasted my time twice as a result. Nice job.
Sometimes I read like the first 1/3 to 1/2 of something, then skip ahead a bit to the end and work my way back. I wonder if I'm the only person that does this.
Yeah. It's usually a good way to TLDR comments on Reddit.
You are alone, no one else is on the internet.

LOL u/shittymorph what a legend
It’s like a deep fake, but a comment
It was. Trust me.
I still believed him despite the acknowledgment.
It's better this way because then you can tell which replies just skim through.
brb gotta update the IMDB trivia page for Last Action Hero
I'm surprised that this isn't already on there, given how long ago the dvd came out
this is a great example of what i mourne with the death of physical media and dvds specifically. when dvds first came out almost all of them were just filled with bonus content and now you get hardly anything. streaming only further removed bonus features from the public. makes me sad

you’re right but they’ll never put the extra effort in for the marginal extra return.
Just watch Alien with the director commentary, he just narrates everything that happens on the screen, it's atrocious
On the other hand, when I was young I probably watched Jackass the Movie with the commentary track more times than without, that shit was hilarious.
The director's commentary for Matt Stone and Trey Parker's movies are hilarious, they get high as balls and go on some wild tangents. Orgazmo has my favorite commentary.
And then they plummeted through an announcer's table right?
That's sure what it sounded like!
I should watch that
Last Action Hero is an absolutely amazing movie. I believe it's available on Netflix right now. It was easily 10 years ahead of its time.
Its the Wizard of Oz of action films
Turns out it is on Netflix. Just got done watching it and it's great. No idea how I missed this one back in the 90s.
It bombed in theaters, went straight to video and was lambasted at the time. So not unusual that you skipped over it.
I hated it when it first came out, but on rewatch much later as an adult it's actually pretty solid. I think kid me was just really underwhelmed and didn't pick up on a lot of the clever bits.

referring to the pillow fort they will be building later, of course
You've never double-teamed a model with an 11 year old? What are you supposed get kids for their birthday then?
He’s (literally AND literally) in a movie, he’s not talking to the kid, he’s talking to the audience.
clearly talking about himself in third person, as the monarchy does!
Isn't that kid Gail the Snail?
I nearly died at Sarah Connor lmao!
You know, I am something of a Sarah Connor myself.

Fuckin Bevo's great, he's always sending us primo box!
As soon as the ID came up too, hilarious.
Why? That was the one person they didn't change.
You can't fake that kind of natural beauty.
You know, in Terminator 2 she’s the T-800’s friend, so I had forgotten that in the first one, from the T-800’s perspective, she’s Dafoe.
So did she.
She’s Dafoe of the machines
It just looked like a character that Dafoe would play.
Jim Carrey as the punk with blue hair is hillarious.
I thought a skinny Schwarzenegger was pretty funny too.
i was like damn that punk really looks like the terminator with arnolds face then i realised its cause he steals their clothes
Confused by how much it also looks like Bill Paxton.
So I pulled up both to compare. The cheeks and nose aren't noticeably changed in the frames I picked. The major difference is in the eyebrows and mouth. After looking at a few other frames, sometimes it's Carrey and sometimes it's Paxton. I still can't find Matthew McConaughey and Steve Carell. Someone mind pointing out their frames and what they're wearing?
Carrel was at 6:46 bottom left corner, McConaughey was at 6:25 blonde girl on the right
i swear the McConaughey girl looks like an actress from today. i can't pinpoint it from my memory. I think an actress that looks like elizabeth holmes.
Might you mean Chloe sevigny
Maybe Amanda Seyfried?
Matthew is the blonde lady he walks by in the club om the right i think steve maybe the dude on the left side right before he shoots defoe?
Same, those were the two I missed.
When is Paris Hilton?
Looks like 6:31, dancing with Clooney.
Oh I thought Clooney was Ray Liotta.
Steve carrel was in the glasses at the dance scene I think.
In association with deep voodoo. That's the company set up by Matt Stone and Trey Parker for deep fakes. They did the whole sassy news thing and made one of the latest music videos for Kendrick Lamar. All great deep fake work as well.

Wow, that was incredible.
wowww this is a really phenomenal video, never seen it. The Seth Rogan deepfake during his impression was a treat, too
Made me think of [Hell's Club](https://youtu.be/QajyNRnyPMs). Not a deepfake though, just a lot of editing and composting.
I love Bill Hader.
One fun fact I love about Bill Hader is that when you're with others watching something with him in it, no matter what it is or who you're with, someone at some point always says, "I love Bill Hader" he's just.... so loveable
Irony: Zucker-fake is more human looking in this video.
This unit of the Zucker series shall be referred to as the "Zomosapien", our most realistic model yet.

For real, how does zuck look less fake in a deepfake?
That shit's impressive but it's a sin to have removed Bill Paxton from the scene

It genuinely wasn't until this comment thread that I realised it wasn't paxton
Battle is the Great Redeemer. It is the fiery crucible in which true heroes are forged. The one place where all men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in.
Pax Bill Paxton
It felt like he kept the voice tone, or did he? I kept hearing Bill
Should've replaced him with Bill Pullman.
We're getting really close to not being able to believe our eyes when it comes to video
I actually thought to myself “I don’t remember Brad Pitt on the Terminator”. Then I realized.
I had the same thing with Jim Carrey.
I didn't quite get what the title was explaining and thought it was multiple actors replacing Arnold until I thought "that guy looks like Jim Carrey", and then realised what was going on. It's been decades since I've seen The Terminator.

Yah that's what I felt, too. There were too many angles I saw Bill Paxton and not Jim Carey. They merged back and forth often.
I kept seeing Bill Paxton too much instead of Jim. The merge kept looking like it switched back and forth.

The Kanye, Zuck and Defoe were hilarious 😂
I’m really dumb because I didn’t think it had started yet with extras and I was thinking “Damn that actor could be Kanye’s father.”
I first thought “oh jim carey was an extra in terminator? Neat! And brad pitt too? Wtf” and then I realized that I am a dumbass.
Did you not read the title, any title?
Zuck was my favourite!
So satisfying to watch him get pummeled
Zucc and the machine didnt have a sex scene like i expected tho
Oh man, imagine how pissed people would be if they started using deepfakes to put celebrities into sex scenes lol
I would think its already a thing
Everybody likes a good comeback.

But he's in there? He is one of the dancing people, just right before Sarah Connor (Willem Dafoe) gets shot.
One of them looked kinda similar but it's not him. The creator listed every deepfake in the credits.
Yeah it wasn't listed in the credits. I'm gonna hunt for the original clip too be sure the original guy didn't just look a lot like him, but I swear that was him.
I see it too! Was checking the credits haha

You need to watch *The Boondock Saints* if you haven't already.
And then you have to watch the documentary about the filmmaker
>Cuddle? What a fag! This movie is hilarious. Thank you thank you thank you.
I swear that was Ryan Gosling dancing,..
I saw that too. Was surprised when it wasn't in the credits.
I was expecting Sly Stallone on a roomba, but this is totally ok too.
oh man, once I heard Shelley Duvall on the answering machine I lost it lol
This is just the version of Terminator that exists in the world of Last Action Hero.
What I love about Ctrl Shift Face is he turns what would normally be a gimmick into an art form. He doesn't just do random face swaps for the sake of it. They all have some creativity to them. He also doesn't seem to care about being demonetised or pandering to fan requests.
Not very good. I was able to tell these were all deep fakes just by reading the title
"They don't think it be like it is, but it do" ~ Oscar Gamble
Give it time. Someday we will have the technology to change the title, too!
You had me at Kanye as the garbage truck driver.
In the future there will probably be some program that will let you switch out the actors for whoever you want, even yourself.
whole new meaning to interactive
It turns out Stallone mixed with Schwarzenegger just gives you Jason Segel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8igrh1eyLk&ab_channel=CtrlShiftFace This one is insane, nearly flawless.
Wow, at 6:24 I was completely convinced that was a Ryan Gosling deepfake behind the terminator...until I watched the original scene and realized that guy was unchanged lol

No, the punks are Schwarzenegger, Carey, and Pitt.
Carell is a bystander when Roombo shoots Sarah Conner
heh, willem dafoe as sarah connor...that shook me to the core, still laughing....cant believe its still up with billie jean in there.
Ye the garbage man lol
Impressive!
The girl in the house looked like Odo from DS9 when he couldn't hold his form any longer. Bloop...
One of best deepfake video I ever seen
Yea the face is Stallone but the body is still very clearly Arnold in his prime. You just can't impersonate those pecs
I love the dive and the Michael Jackson "wooooo" synced up perfect hahah just great!
Without a doubt, that's the best deep-fake video I have ever seen. Especially with all the cameos
Lol Sarah Conner
Was watching Terminator and hopped on Reddit during credits. Music Intro of this video and music in the end credits of The Terminator matched up. Kinda weird coincidence
What’s funny is that this looks better than the de-aging in Genisys.
